    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Imovie won't open on mac

    imovie won't open on mac
what do I do ....  I have clicked force quit as it is unresponsive?
I have shut down computer. Unplugged power for 30 seconds and opened back up still the same problem. Help please!!!

So you don't have the iLife 09 disk either? (Can't remember if that was a separate disk or not).
Hmmm, it'd be better if you had the iLife disk.....
So, first you need to buy Snow Leopard (call Apple, it's the best price there); once you install it, update it to 10.6.8. That will give you the Mac App Store - you need that to buy Mountain Lion (download only, no disks). You will also want to up your RAM memory toa s much as you can - Mountain Lion is somewhat of a memory hog.
If you don't have your iLife disks, then a bootable clone on an external drive is an absolute must have just in case. You should do the first one before you install Snow Leopard just in case. Then, once you're up to 10.6.8 and all your applications are updated 9ncluding iLife, make a new bootable clone before you download/install Mountain Lion. Keep that clone safe just in case you need to revert or something goes wrong (especially if you don't have disks).
Once Mountain Lion is downloaded, first dismiss the installer and find it in your Applications folder. Make a copy of it and put it in a safe place (so you don't need to download it again). Then begin installing; when finished, run Software Update. Hopefully, your iMovie will be updated to the latest version. At that point, I'd make another clone and keep that one updated.
Having said all that, I'm not sure about iMovie not responding now - since you don't have disks, you can't reinstall it, so I don't know if upgrading will work. Normally one should take care of any problems before upgrading, but unless you want to buy a retail iLife 09 or 11 (which is still available online here and there), there isn't much you can do about installing.

  • Updated iMovie on my brand new mac mini and lost "SPEED" function.

Updated iMovie on my brand new Mac Mini and lost "SPEED" function.

    Hello bbryson68, I'm sure you've just over-looked it.
The answer is to click on Adjust above the Clip in Viewer, this will bring into view a adjustments bar also above the Clip.
Now you just have to select the speed via the Turtle icon. Once the clip has been speed-up or down, you'll get a Slider
over the clip in question & a Rabbit icon indicating the clip has been speed-up.
If you want to  keep audio undistorted check the Preserve Pitch checkbox above the viewer.
The Clip Slider & icon of Rabbit appear in the Clip-Trimer window below the main Clip, also check your Pref's to see if you have
Apply Slow Motion checked? This will slow or speed up all other clips to the first clip.

  • You Cannot Use This Version of iMovie With This Version of Mac OS X

+*Cannot Use This Version of iMovie With This Version of Mac OS X*+
Yes, I can. iMovie just doesn't want to cooperate. I checked the requirements, it says:
an Intel-based Mac, a Power Mac G5 with dual 2.0 GHz or faster processors, or an iMac G5 at 1.9 GHz or faster.
Well, I meet the requirements, I have an iMac G5 with 2.0 GHz, also with Leopard.
    Why can't I use iMovie.

  • Having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks

I am having trouble installing iMovie HD on a new Mac with Mavericks.
I know that iMovie HD works with Mavericks because we are using it on other Macs successfully.   However, those machines were upgraded starting with OS 10.6.   In other words, iMovie HD was installed on these Macs when the Macs had Snow Leopard.
When I use the iLife 06 disc, I am presented with “You can't open the application “iLife 06” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
I understand that iMovie HD  is universal, not PowerPC.  How can I get past this to install iMovie HD.
    Thanks

    OK, I made some progress.
I used Pacifist (Shareware) to open the iMovie HD 6 install packages from the iLife '06 installer DVD (iMovie.pkg and iMovieThemes_Tiger.pkg) and let Pacifist install them to the right places.
But doesn't iMovie HD 6 require QuickTime 7 to work ?

  • G4 Mac iMovie to DVD on Intel Mac?

I am about to get a new Intel Mac. I have an iMovie created on my current G4 Mac. My question is whether I can move this iMovie file from my G4 Mac to the Intel Mac and convert it to a DVD with the Intel Mac iDVD (I don't have iDVD on my G4).

Btw ....I need to mention something regarding updating older iMovie projects to the most current version ....
Once you decide to open an older iMovie project that was edited/created in any former version of iMovie, iMovie will by default update said older iMovie project so that it becomes impossible to use any former version of iMovie to open it again / henceforth.... meaning you will be required in the future to use only the most current version of iMovie on the project you decide to open (assuming it opens successfully). Once opened in the most current version of iMovie you can always go forward but not backward to an earlier version under normal software updating /circumstances. And this holds true for many (if not most) of apple's software.
Hope this makes some sense. But if not, then you need to read about a few situations were others have attempted to do what you are trying to do now with separate versions of iMovie, for example ... please note Karsten's comments on the following post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2645364&#2645364
In addition, please note what Karl Petersen says here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2821387&#2821387
Bottom line is that most iMovie updates run very smoothly but there are some situations where they do not. Yours may or may not be one of them. So in order to avoid any possible issue while upgrading, here's what I recommend you do (just in case):
Export the older iMovie project to tape first, then reimport into iM6...
(If you use this approach, please keep in mind you can not edit any transitions, title's.. etc. but it will preserve your current iMovie in its entirety).
Hope this helps and i'll keep my finger's crossed for you...

  • Move iMovie 08 project to another Mac

I have an iMovie '08 project on my Core 2 Duo iMac, and I and going out of town. I'd like to move the iMovie '08 project to my MacBook Pro.
Copying the project over via flash drive doesn't seem to work. The project doesn't open on my MBP. iMovie 08 only launches a new project. I When I show the bundle contents, I can see that everything's there.
What's the proper way to move/copy an iMovie '08 project form one Mac to another? Both Macs are Intel based with Leopard.

    Hi p
As I understand it - I would try to do like this:
    • Connect the lap-top via FW and start it with T-key pressed to get it to present itself as
    an external hard disk
    • This should be able to add to browser window in iM08
    • Now move the material in the browser to Your lap-top.
Think/Guess that this should work. I did likevice to my external "My Book" drive.

  • How do you Move an iMovie '08 Project to Another Mac?

What's the best way to move an iMovie '08 project to another Mac on my network? (Both Macs have iMovie '08.) Specifically, is there an easy way to move a project and the event containing the imported clips in one step?
Often, I'll do work on my Intel MacBook then transfer stuff to my Intel iMac for long term storage. In iMovie '08, I tried various imports and exports and nothing worked so well. For example, when you drag and drop a project file from one computer to another the clips don't come with it. You can play the movie but the clips in the media browser are grayed-out.
There ought to be something like the archive routine that packages up everything and lets you put it on another computer for further editing.
    Thanks!

I would like to know the same thing but not for another Mac... just another user. Should be almost the same procedure right?
My iMovie '08 is crashing like crazy! I just want to get the projects into iMovie using a fresh user and hope that fixes it. I can see where copying/moving preferences into the library of the other user (along with duping the projects in the movies folder) might succeed in opening the project in another user. I'm just afraid of moving bad prefs or something.

  • Do I need a new Apple ID if I want iMovie/iLife on my new Mac for free?

Just last month, I bought my new Macbook with Retina. This is my first Mac - previously, I used PC. When I still had my PC, I had an Apple ID for when I used iTunes on there.
I keep reading that new Macs come with iLife, and for a school project, I need a video editing software - in this case, iMovie. I synced my Apple ID with this Mac, and when I go to the appstore, it wants to charge $15 for it, even though it supposedly comes with my Mac purchase. When I looked up how to get it, every other place says that my appstore should offer it, but I don't see it.
Am I doing something wrong, or does the whole "free iLife with a new Mac purchase" thing not apply anymore?

So I managed to talk to someone on live chat support, and a detail I forgot about was that this computer was bought by someone else before me, but returned almost immediately, and apparently the reason why I don't have iLife is because this computer was previously synced with that person's apple ID before they returned the computer.
According to that chat, I am no longer able to get iLife. I'm supposing this is the case, since I looked again through my apps and my appstore and I still see nothing for iLife or iWorks.

  • Can I install iMovie 5 on an Intel mac?

Hello. I recently got a new Mac which came with iMovie 09 installed. If possible........I would like to also install iMovie 5 on the same machine (as I have lots of 3rd party effects with that version). So I'm wondering is this possible and how do I do it? I have my old install discs (1 and 2) for OS 10.2 and 10.4 ........I'm not sure which disk contains the iMovie 5 App. and how I would go about just installing iMovie 5 without the other iApps? Would there be any conflict in having the 2 iMovie Apps installed on the same Mac? Thanks for any help.

Okay, this is odd. I have Snow Leopard which came with my newest iMac Intel desktop I purchased about six months ago. When I bought it, I imported all of my old programs from my old Mac which ran on the Tiger OS, including iMovie 5. I have been using iMovie 5 on snow leopard with NO PROBLEM for the last six months to edit and save footage, since I hate the new iMovie 09 and find it completely user unfriendly.
However, today I was editing all afternoon, no issue, and then this evening I opened my project to start working, edited one transition and the program turned into a white screen and shut down. Now I can't open any imovie files on it. I tried deleting and importing the program again as I had originally, and it still won't load. What gives? How did it run perfectly for months and finally implode?
I did run a software update yesterday, but I edited without issue for roughly five hours after that. I was only about an hour away from finishing my project, and now I can't even open it! Any ideas?
I've heard there is a program called Rosetta - which was not installed when I bought the system but apparently is on the discs? - which can run some of the old programs. Would installing this solve the issue?

  • How do I transfer my Imovie files to my new Mac?

Last night I received my brand new Imac and transferred the contents from my 2008 Imac using Time Machine BU. Everything seemed in order until I opened Imovie on the new Imac and couldn't see any of my Imovie events.
I then hooked the two computers together using an ethernet cable and used the migration feature to do the same thing.
Now it appears all my data has transferred twice( the 1 TB hard drive is almost full and the Imovie files are still not on the new Mac.
    Can anyone advise me?

Click here and follow the instructions to move the files; to connect the computers together, hook them up with a FireWire cable and start up one with the T key held down.
