IMovie not free for Macbook Pro, late Oct 2013 Model

Hi,
How can I get iMovie to be free again on the Apps Store.
These links did not solve my problem.

In addition, all iWork software are not free also.
Please help

Leecka

Hi,
I installed iMovie 10 when I first purchased the Macbook, but I deleted as I did not need it then. It was free then.  However, I reinstalled Mac OS X after that.
Now, it is not free at all.

  • Is keynote free for Macbook Pro late 2012 or is a payment required still?

The keynote app on the app store under the category of free shows up, however a payment of $19.95 still displays as well. Is this app free or is a payment still required?

Keynote, Pages and Numbers are only free to users who either  purchased a Mac or purchased any of the iWork 09 applications after the middle of October last year.

  • Aren't the pages, numbers, keynote free for macbook pro retina late 2012 users?

Aren't pages, numbers and keynote free for macbook pro retina late 2012 users?

Free if you have iWork '09 on the MBP.

  • Best monitor for MacBook Pro (Late 2012)

After searching Apple's knowledge base (reference: Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support), it appears that MacBook Pro (Late 2012 model) does not support 4K monitors, correct?
If this is the case, what's the best monitor (resolution and pricepoint) I can get for this model? Should I just try to find an old refurbished 27" Thunderbolt Display?
    My MBPr runs a 2.9Ghz Intel Core i7 w/8GB RAM and OS X v10.9.5.
    Thanks,
    Nicholas

A Dell ultra Sharp would be a good buy.  Depending on what size you want:

Otherwise, if you don't mind spending the money, and not worried about not using the monitor to its fullest this BENQ is an excellent monitor

If no device works with that port, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.  You have performed all of the available software options.

  • Wireless instability in new  Macbook pro (late 2008) (uniblock model)

I have been experiencing the same kind of instability problems with the wireless connections of the new Macbook pro (late 2008 "unibody") reported in other posts in this section.
My network configuration includes a Time Capsule base station(802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)) and an Airport Express(802.11n) that extends the network and is used mostly for wireless music feeding into sound equipment.
I have been using this network for months with my old MBP (Core Duo,15.4', 2.16 MHz) and it works perfectly. From that notebook iTunes recognizes the Airport express immediately and feeds music without any problems.
I transferred all my configuration to the new Macbook Pro (late 2008 - which is indeed a beautiful piece of hardware, exquisitely designed) and everything works perfectly... except the wireless connection.
It behaves quite unstably. Usually, it is necessary to turn airport off and on several times in the computer to get iTunes to connect to the Airport Express. Even then, the music stream suffers from frequent interruptions and suddenly gets in trouble and looses connection.
While iTunes is trying to reconnect to the Airport Express, usually the internet connection fails altogether, making it necessary to turn airport off and on in the notebook to restart all the wireless connections.
All along, the old MBP wireless connections behave perfectly, proving the problem is in the new Macbook (late 2008) and not in the network.
I have loaded all the firmware and software updates available in the Apple site, and the behaviour improved somewhat with the EFI firmware update 1.6 and SMC firmware update 1.2. I also reset the SMC.
However, the problem is still there and appears now and then seemingly without a pattern.

Folks: *there may be a power/signal issue going on here.* I had a similar problem of my network connection dragging to practically nothing when hooking up my LaCie external drive to the USB port. Please see my post below (link and text)
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9914924#9914924
    Folks:
Apple needs to get on this issue fast; after turning off my N mode on my WRT160N Linksys Router, I got my packet speed back up to where it should be... HOWEVER I noticed another problem.
When I hooked up my LaCie external drive (connected via USB), my packets on PING practically stall to nothing. I then eject the external USB drive and re-ping and I get acceptable packet speeds; I re-connect the LaCie external drive to the USB port and my PING crawls to nothing.
There is CLEARLY a correlation between the network speed crawling to nothing while hooking up an external drive; possibly a power sink and/or signal interference on the Airport when hooking up a USB device? (or perhaps even Firewire 800 too?)
I sure hope Apple is reading this one, because this could be a MAJOR issue that needs to be fixed ASAP.

  • Internal HDD installation guide for MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 model

    Hello,
Can someone please share any step by step guides or instructional videos for installing a new internal HDD in a MacBook Pro 13" mid-2012 model. Also, please advise on how to format the new HDD as it is an unformatted one.
    Thanks in advance!

To format your new HDD, connect it to your MBP and open Disk Utility>Erase.  Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then clone the data from the internal HDD to the new external one.  You may use Disk Utility>Restore or use Carbon Copy Cloner (third party software) to do the cloning.  Test the new HDD via Startup manager and then perform the swap.
    Ciao.

  • New hard drive for macbook pro (late 2009) anti shock or not?

I thought I read somewhere that if you replace a HD in your macbook pro, the new one should not have shock protection as it interferes with the mac's own internal shock sensor.
So I went out and bought a Seagate 7200.4 500GB drive - without the 'G' Suffix - ie the non-shock version of the drive.
I carefully opened my Macbook Pro and was surprised to see the drive in it was a Seagate with a 'G' Suffix!
Does the macbook actually have it's own separate shock sensor?
Is there any published data from apple as to what drives to use for replacement?
    Thanks!

    Shifty08:
    I can speak form experience!
I got messed up 3 times with my Mid 2009 15 inch MB Pro (Some 13 inch units also) with a Seagate 500 GB Sata // 3 gps HD right after the EFI 1.7 update. There may be issue with some other larger 3rd party HDs including WD.
This is my MB Pro present configuration:
    +MacBook Pro+
    +Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4+
    +Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo+
    +Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz+
    +Number Of Processors: 1+
    +Total Number Of Cores: 2+
    +L2 Cache: 3 MB+
    +Memory: 4 GB+
    +Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz+
    +Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B02+
    +SMC Version (system): 1.49f2+
This is my present internal HD configuration:
    ST9500420ASG:
    +Capacity: 465.76 GB+
    +Model: ST9500420ASG+
    +Revision: 0002SDM1+
The resolution to these issues is now well established and discussed on a different discussion thread.
One has to have Firmware EFI 1.6 installed to avoid the problem. If Firmware EFI 1.7 is installed--back roll it to EFI 1.6. Run the Performance update 1.0.
In order to do this you have to remove the 500 GB 3rd party HD and "back roll" to EFI 1.6 from an external HD. There is a special download for this.
If you have Apple Care or have 3 month coverage for free tech support have the Apple store do it for you. It is about a 20 min routine. Schedule this appointment with the "Genius" through the Apple care. Apple is aware of the issue though some of the Genius staff are not. There is an Apple Engineering bulletin on this. There is a *EFI 1.6 rollback.dmg* file which is on the apple site.
Once this rolled back is in effect, then re-install the 3rd party HD. Then install the Performance Upgrade 1.0--and the MB Pro will work at 1.5 GPS--but this is better than nothing and it does not seem to be an issue for this MB Pro.
Now one likely can install the larger drive in an enclosure and it may work without this modification. I have not done this so I can not confirm this.
I did install the factory supplied 250 GB Hitachi HD in an enclosure and have it working as Universal boot drive.
    See below for details.

This universal boot drive is explained in the Apple KB posting here.

  • Compatible Monitor for MacBook Pro late 2011

Hello, I would like to purchase a monitor to use with my MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.2 15" Late 2011
I found some cheap models from Dell but I'm not exactly sure what specs to look for in order to have a fully compatible monitor.
    Could you eventually help me?
    Thank you in advance
    MacBook Pro's Technical Specs (from http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.2- 15-late-2011-unibody-thunderbolt-specs.html)
Connectivity includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a Firewire "800" port, two USB 2.0 ports, separate audio in and out ports, an SDXC card slot, and a "Thunderbolt" port that is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort and, likewise, supports an external display at 2560x1600 and passes an audio signal. Thunderbolt also supports other peripherals that use the Thunderbolt standard which provides up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth in both directions.

I've never seen a monitor that requires drivers to be installed. Maybe that's why you can't find any. All, at least that I know of will work with any computer. But I may just not be aware of any that won't/don't work with your Macbook Pro.

  • Best portable hard drive for MacBook Pro late 2011

Looking for a portable hard drive, 1TB USB 2.0 I think.  I googled the model details below and it said it had USB 2.0
    EtreCheck version: 1.9.12 (48)
    Report generated 2 August 2014 10:06:17 BST
    Hardware Information:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) (Verified)
      MacBook Pro - model: MacBookPro8,1
      1 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 CPU: 2 cores
      4 GB RAM
Have never backed up before and not too bothered about it being super fast.  Would like to get one for under £50.  Tried looking myself but getting very confused, USB, FireWire ????
    Can anyone help?

USB 3 hard drives will work with your MacBook but only at USB 2 speeds. FireWire 800 is your best option for fast data transfers at this point, unless you want to get a new computer.
    Best of luck.

  • Since when is iMovie not compatible with MacBook Pro 13-inch?

went to upload some Christmas Eve videos into iMovie and get an error messages stating the iMovie does not support my computer...which it sure allowed me to purchase, use and update as recently as September!
Since when did Apple start deciding to not make the very software they promote as idea for users, then go and make them not work on a system that is not even 1.5 years old?!!! Steve Jobs would not have agreed to something so stupid! Apple, fix the problem or you are moving more and more closer to Microsoft than I thought.
THIS IS PURE ******** AND I INTEND TO POST THIS ON EVERY MAC FORUM

Here is the message I am getting:
OK, I can edit HD video on my iPhone, but the hardware on my MacBook Pro can't handle it? Really?!! Come on Apple, I am not that stupid...and if this is the direction you were going, when are you going to finally produce a legitimate MacBook Pro 13-inch with video memory?
All of those poor college kids and other people who purchased a computer that doesn't even support a simple, feature poor video editing program, but...I can run all kinds of other labor intensive program all day long...including 3rd party HD video editing software.

  • Second graphics card (Nvidia) for Macbook Pro (late 2011)?

    Hi,
I have a late 2011 17-inch Macbook Pro, and want to know whether it's possible to fit a second graphics card in there - and if so, where I could find a list of compatible cards.
What I am really aiming for is an Nvidia card with CUDA, since there are various applications I want to use that require CUDA.
If it's not possible to fit a second CUDA card in there, is it possible to replace the current card (AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB) with an Nvidia one?
    Thanks,
    S

Thanks for such a quick response, albeit not the one I was hoping to hear!

  • SSD for macbook pro late 2011

    Hello,
I need some help about SSD drives. I have read a lot but I don't understand much and decided to ask someone know better than me. My Macbook Pro is late 2011 i5 8gb ram and want to change its hard drive with SSD 256gb. I need advice about brands. For example is this okay 256GB Ultra Plus SATA 3.0 SSD? Or which SSD should I prefer?
    Thanks a lot.
    Selim Cavusoglu

    Hey Selim,
I've installed many different brands of SSD's as well as different tier options for the same brand of SSD. In my experience, regardless of the brand the boot time will be right there next to each other between the 13-16 seconds range. Now if you want the best bang for your buck the simplest answer is go to amazon and buy a samsung 840 pro or samsung 840 evo. The performance is very similar and the price of the pro is a little higher since it will last longer due to it being a MLC SSD vs the EVO which is a TLC SSD. So if that answered your question there you go keep reading if you want:)
Between the two, i picked a used (by amazons standards, it had just had damage to the packaging) 840 EVO and it was about the same price as what you have  shown an example. Now, buying used from amazon is hit or miss, so i recommend spending the extra $10-$20 for peace of mind. There is also cheaper options, but samsung seems to have the BEST track record with reliability AND performance. Keep in mind the 50MB differences in read speeds you see on benchmarks actually aren't very noticeable in launching apps.
Hope I've helped, If you would prefer a different option from the recommended samsung 840 evo let me know and ill gladly give a few more options.

  • Best upgrades for MacBook Pro Late 2011

Hello, searching in the community, only brings me to posts that are from 2012, as newer tech is available, I would like to renew the question and hopefully get some updated comments and suggestions.
    I own a MacBook Pro 15 late 2011 (2,2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, matte retina display, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, OS X 10.9.5 13F34).
I would like to upgrade to Mavericks and while I'm at it, I'll upgrade the hardware as well (HD and RAM).
I'm a photographer, and I noticed that Lightroom and PS are running slower as I upgraded through the OSs, this is the main reason for my need to upgrade, I would like more speed overall. There are so many choices of SSDs and RAMs on the net, I would love to get some good feedback from this post and maybe boil this down to three upgrade possibilities:
1 The BEST (meaning the top of the line and probably most expensive)
2 The MID (good compromise between price and performance)
3 The CHEAP (the least expensive choice to make the computer increase performance)
I really appreciate all the help I can get from the Community.
    Marco Benvenuto
    P.S.
If by any chance I missed a post that already answered my question, please link it to this one ;-)

I just bought the Crucial M550 CT512M550SSD1!!! Thank you so much for your help
If I could still pick your brain with another question...
    I also have a Mac Pro 2 x 2,26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Since there are fast PCI slots available, I was looking to put an SSD in there, but I noticed that the price difference is substantially higher.
I wont need more than 240/256 GB for the MacPro, since I have 2 2TB HDs and some others in there.
My question is: is the performance of the PCI SSDs compared to the regular SDD worth the up-upgrade?
Or should I just get another Crucial M550 (256GB) and put it in the second DVD bay?
I'm thinking to put the RAM on hold for both computers for now, but I probably will get Crucial for both a.s.a.p.
