IMovie not importing full 1080 resolution

I've notices that when I import my 1080 HD videos that i've recorded on my iPhone to iMovie, it converts the video to 720p. I don't see a setting that says tells iMove that I want it to import the full quality. I've go the latest version of iMovie 10.0.2 and am very confused why this is not automatically doing this for me. Any suggestions would be fully appreciated.

The resolution of an iMovie 10 project cannot be set manually but is determined by the first clip to be added to the project.   If your first clip is 1080p then the project should be 1080p.  ( iMovie 10 on the Mac definitiely supports 1080p)
Try creating a new project and putting a single 1080p clip into it.  then select the project and click Info (above the viewer).  It should read 1080p HD.   If it reads 720p then your clip must be 720p.
Assuming it reads 1080p you can then copy all of your project that was set to 720p to this new project and it should remain set at 1080p.  You can remove that first clip if you need.  The shared movie will be 1080p.

  • LI2323S Not Allowing Full Gaming Resolution?

Hey there, so I'm a complete newbie at this kind of thing so please bear with me. This is my first PC and thus my first monitor in a very long time.
But yeah, basically, with help of my computer nerd friends (who can't seem to diagnose this problem either, oops), I recently purchased a very nice, very expensive gaming/graphics PC. It was custom built through IBuyPower and definitely has that last part. Power. It has a Nvidia 970 graphics card, Intel i5 processor, 16 gb ram, etc. etc. And when I had it hooked up to my 42" TV, I was able to play every game in Ultra/Nvidia settings.
Then I hooked it up to this monitor. Again, I don't know much about monitors and how they work, but should they be able to cap your graphics settings? I can still access Ultra (but not Nvidia) in Far Cry 4. I'm honestly not even sure what Nvidia was, but I'm confused why it would no longer be an option on my monitor vs my TV.
I'm connected through a high speed HDMI cable, the same one I was using with my TV. If you guys have any idea what is causing this/how to fix this, I'd super appreciate it. If not, I'll probably return the monitor and buy another one.
P.S. A little disappointed Lenovo has made contacting them directly so very difficult. You have to Google to find their customer service line (which I didn't have time to call this morning), and I could not find an email. Perhaps I'm blind, but I also wager I'm a pretty Average Consumer, in which case... shouldn't it be easier to find, if I'm having problems? Just a side thought.

Humm... the dual Samsung 21.5" monitor setup on my 2010 Mac Mini running Mavericks works a expected. One is on the HDMI to DVI adapter and the other in on a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Try > Display Menu from the Mac App Store and see if you can select 1920 x 1080 for both monitors using it.
Addtitionally, are you sure that it the HDMI to DVI monitor that is not getting the correct resolution...? Most people are complaining that it is a VGA connected monitor that is not getting the correct resolution.
If it turns out to be VGA connected monitor, then try using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and DVI cable for that monitor instead of VGA.

  • URGENT iMovie not importing video

    Hi there,
I have a really urgent iMovie project I need to have completed by Monday, however I am having extreme difficulty importing my last video file for some reason. I am uploading footage from a SONY HD HANDYCAM (it says HDR-SR11) and I am using iMovie '09. Very confused as have always been able to upload footage from the camcorder - in fact did it yesterday with no troubles - but when I go to import this one clip (12mins), it goes through the process of 'importing', however no actual footage/ thumbnails is uploaded on the iMovie screen. I have selected to view 'All Clips' so that is not a problem. I have also deleted all events/projects and tried again but that one video still will not import.
When I go into Finder I can see the clips there except they cannot be opened although they are from the exact same camera as the rest. I have also tried on another Mac computer but with the same result. I cannot import to iPhoto, nor does it let me export using the free version of MPEG-2 converter.
I am using the camera to computer USB cable by the way.
I really, really appreciate any help or advice in advance, and apologise if this is a trivial problem but can't seem to find any answers in the hours I have spent on it, nor online.
    Cheers,
    Norrista

    Hi Bengt W,
Thank you so much for your imput. I have tried the option you said about creating a new account, however that did not change anything.
In regards to your question about space - I assume I can just click Inspector on my iMac image - it says there are 7.94 GB free. And when I was 'importing' this video file into iMovie it said there was 2 hours 57 mins available which I thought would be fine as the clip is only 12 mins.
I really appreciate any further advice you can give me because I'm coming to the deadline now and it isn't something I can just go out and shoot again unfortunately.
And as a side note, I have tried selecting the Camera Archive option, but iMovie does not then allow me to import the files afterwards.
    Many thanks again,
    Norrista

  • IMovie not importing videos from iPhoto

I am trying to import videos from iPhoto into iMovie. It is not bringing in ( i.e. creating thumbnails for) anything after Dec 2010. The videos all show up in iPhoto and they were shot with an iPhone. Is there a date range set somewhere that I need to change. I can not even get them if I specifically try and import them one at a time through File-Import-Movies. When I try this method it lets me select the videos, but they still don't show up in my video thumbnails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    OSX 10.8.3 on a 2012 iMac
    iMovie 11 9.0.8

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

  • IMovie not importing photos

After upgrading, some of my photos will not import into iMovie 10. They show up in iMovie as just green blanks! I thought it might be because I was trying to import jpegs directly from a folder, so I imported all of the photos into iPhoto and opened the iPhoto in iMovie. I can see the photos in the iPhoto folder in iMovie, but when I try to add them to the movie, again, just a blank green space. What is wrong!?!?!?

I wish I had an answer for you, but sadly, the same thing happens to me. I've had this happen multiple times using Mac Mini with OS X 10.5.8. Another issue similar to this one is that the photo will just show up as BLACK--nothing else. Wish we could both get some help on this, but I'm not holding my breath...

  • Civ3 not on full screen resolution

    Hello here,
not too sure if this is the right place to ask, but I dont seem to find a solution o my problem.
When trying to play Civ3 1.21g on my MB Pro with 1440x900, the game does not use all of the available screen resolution - how can I change this to play on full screen?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,

That is strange. I'd first try resetting the PRAM (Hold option-command-P-R keys down during startup until you hear the chime at least three times). A PRAM reset often fixes little startup bugs.
Although irrelevant to the issue, also repair permissions (never a bad idea) with disk utility. Onyx is also great for this and other maintenance tasks.
    cheers

  • Trouble Importing Home Video - Not importing full clip

I've never used iMovie before but I figured out how to get a home dvd imported. I mounted the disk image and everything and when I open iMovie is gives me the import menu. I import my clip and it tells me that it's imported 120 minutes of video but when I click on the new event there's only 48 minutes of video. Where's the rest?

This is what PYRO's Technical support told me. I plan on getting back to them with follow up questions let me know if you have one you would like to pass on.
    Tech Support (18 Tech) - 7/26/2006 1:41:45 PM
Tihs is not likely to be happening because of anything on your system (the pattern would be a bit different usually.) This happens because the hardware is dropping frames that cannot be properly translated.
Analog tapes may often contain spots where the magnetism is weak, the tape is stretched, warped etc where the signal that is read off of it when sent from the VCR incorrectly. The reason is that the VCR doesn"t build the signal; it simply does a straight electronic conversion of the signal on the tape to signals on the wire. The problem is that in order for a computer system to understand it as video, the signal must adhere to a strict structure.
When the signal becomes out of order or a part of the signal drops out, a video computer will have a problem and will lose frames unless hardware is present that can anticipate and fill/repair the missing component (most commonly, time-base correction.) These bad signals don"t typically manifest themselves visibly on an analog monitor unless the defect is prolonged (such as distorted video at a bad warp on the tape or the bad video between multiple recording sessions) but they are still there and anything that is trying to compute data from those signals is going to have a problem.
The only thing you can do is try to clean the heads of your VCR or Camcorder using a cleaning cassette or try to run the video through hardware that can do video enhancement/time-base correction, which will repair the signal thus allowing it to be captured uninterrupted. Every time the signal is interrupted, the video processor and DV compressor will take about a second to sync up and resume capture and that is what you"re seeing in those drop-outs.

  • IMovie not importing from a HDR-HC3

When I plug my HDR-HC3, iMovie can control the camera, but it cannot import the video clips. When I tried using Final Cut Pro, it records it fine.

I've just purchased the same camcorder. In fact, I had just purchased Sony's new HDR-SR1 (HDV to 30GB hard disk), but found out that it's definitely not compatible with Mac (what a bummer!). I've now exchanged it for the HDR-HC3 and my Mac doesn't recognize it (no icon on desktop). System Profiler sees the camera connected under Firewire, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
When I launch iMovie HD and attempt to change the setting to capture HDV, I get an error stating that iMovie is missing a QuickTime component.
Do you see the camera on your desktop?

  • Final Cut Pro not importing full clip

What i am using is a JVCpro GY-HM100 which records native mp4 and native mov files. I record native mp4 1080i60 and when i make an attempt to import the files it only imports 30sec of the file when it originally is a 4min clip how can i solve this issue so that it can import the full clip

    Welcome to the forum!
FCP does not work with those highly compressed MP4 files. Use an editing codec to edit with. MP4 is a acquisition and delivery codec not an editing one. Use an application like Compressor to convert the files into something like ProRes (LT) if you are working with an HD file.
You can search this forum for "MP4" topics. It's covered at least once a day.

  • Specific iMovie not importing to iDVD5. Others work fine.

I've posted this in the iDVD 5 forum, but it relates to iMovie 5, too, so I'm posting it here in case anyone can shed any light for me.
I'm utterly baffled. Over the course of a year I made six short iMovie films composed of a mixture of stills and video set to music. Each time I successfully used iDVD to burn DVDs for grandparents.
I'm now trying to create an omnibus edition with all six films in. I've successfully created a menu using one of the templates and can drag most of the films from finder to iDVD. But one of them just won't import. It still plays fine in iMovie, with no stray files or corruption that I can see. All settings (permissions etc) seem to be identical to the other five movies, but when I drag it across I don't get the green "+" sign indicating that I can drop it onto the menu.
I've eny tried re-importing it from a previously burned DVD using MactheRipper, converting it back to DV format using Streamclip and using that file in iMovie. Same result.
If anyone has any suggestion I'd be most grateful.
I'm using iDVD 5 and iMovie HD.

    Beverly,
Thanks for that - that looks promising so far. Created a full quality QT movie okay, dropped it into iMovie, but this still wouldn't copy on to iDVD. Then tried just copying the QT movie directly into iDVD (hadn't realised you could do that) and it worked fine.
Only problem: the export to QT has compressed movie from 16:9 letterbox to 4:3. Have played with settings and am trying another export right now...

  • IMovie Not Importing iPhoto movies

Since upgrading to Leopard, none of the movies created using my digital camera and imported into iPhoto import into iMovie when I launch iMovie.
Any thoughts on how to solve this so that movies in iPhoto created on my digital camera are imported into iMovie.
    Thanks in advance.
    Russell

So far the only work around I found is to manually import the files. Make a note of the file name of the AVI file in iPhoto, go to iMovie and click on File/Import Movies. The iPhoto library is greyed out for reasons I still don't understand but if you type the file name in the search box the file comes up. Double click on the file name and it will import into iMovie.

  • IMovie Not Importing Aperture Photos

I recently purchased a ContourROAM camera with the intention of creating some time lapse videos while on bike rides. Did my first ride with the camera, set to 6 pics every 1min, and captured 830 some-odd photos on my ride. Got home, uploaded them to Aperture and opened up iMovie. When I tried to drag all 830 photos from the media viewer over to the project, it only imported 170 photos. Tried it multiple times with the same result.
Anyone else have similar issues with iMovie?
Btw, I did solve this issue by directly importing the photos off the camera card to iMovie... however it would sure be nice if Aperture and iMovie would play nicely together.

I would suggest creating an album in Aperture containing the photos in the order you want them. Then in iMovie, open the Photo Browser to Aperture and drag in the icon for the Album.
Make sure you make an Album. A Project will work, but will not necessarily keep them in order.

  • Imovie not importing .mov file

I have a video camera (an Oregon Scientific ATC9K).  Normally I take the ssd card out and plug it into my iMac.  I then let iPhoto import everything, then I copy all the files to either my iMacs secondary drive or a network storage device (a GoFlexHome).  I then import .mov files into iMovie, and have, until now, not experienced any issues with this... However, this time round, after my import into iMovie, I noticed some video missing, so I assumed I neglected to import it into the project event.  Note, I have already reformatted the ssd card but have the .mov file both imported into iPhoto and copied onto the external.  Each time I attempt to re-import, iMovie tells me it will take about 4 hours, and when I return, the video clip is still missing.  No error message, just not there.  So I start again... same result... so I create a new project, and import the .mov file... another 4 hours pass... and I'm left with an empty event folder for the new project... I thought it failed at first because I may have ran out of space... so I cleared a bunch of space and tried again... another four hours pass... nada.  iMovie thinks it has imported the movie, but there is nothing there.  I can watch the movie in iPhoto, but if I try to import it from iPhoto, iMovie claims it is in a format it cannot handle.  ***. Pardon the french, but this is getting extremly frustrating.

QuickTime Pro is available for about $30 US from Apple online.
There is a free package called MPEG Streamclip. You could export from MPEG Streamclip with no audio track. However, it may be that MPEG Streamclip will not edit copy protected material either, I have not tried it.

  • Imovie not importing the capture date of my dv footage

    Hi there,
I have a rather strange problem. I've got a JVC mini DV camcorder (GR-DVL 9000), which I'm connecting to my intel imac via firewire. I've got no problem importing the footage; however, imovie is not getting any date and time information for my footage. This is annoying, as the scene detection now doesn't work: everything just becomes one long clip and I have to split it up in different clips manually. Bizarrely, if I play a tape on my JVC camcorder which was shot on another camera (a canon) it DOES transmit date and time! So my camera can transmit this information; just not for any recordings made on the machine itself. If you look on the screen of the camera, though, the date and time is displayed just fine.
Anyone got any ideas? Help much appreciated; this is driving me up the wall!

The sample file you sent didn't have any capture time in its metadata; had you done Edit Capture Time in LR followed by Save Metadata To File to that image?
In my LR 5.3 (Windows 7 64-bit), I was able to import the sample file, do Edit Capture Time to change date, and then Library view and the Metadata pane are in sync.  (See screenshot below.)  I was also able to do Save Metadata To File, and the capture time was correctly written to the file's metadata.
Which version of LR and version of OS X?

  • Premiere CC is not importing full frame range of .mov

I am working in a custom project. 30fps (progressive). My quicktimes begin at frame 0. When I look at the files in quicktime, the frames are there. When I import the files into premiere CC. the first 2 frames are not viewable and my imported clip begins at frame 2. Is this a settings thing?

So...if i recompress my .mov (h.264 compressed) files keyframing every frame, Premiere sees the first 2 frames of the clip... that said, I would prefer not rebatch all these clips as this is a pretty big project and would require quite a bit of time... so if anyone has any ideas how to get around this, it would be very helpful.
