IMovie not recognising Data Video DAC AV/DV converter

I use my DataVideo Dac-1 to capture old VHS family movies. Drop them into iMovie edit and make short DVD's. The system worked a treat with our old G4 and Panther. Have just bought a dual G5 2 Gig machine & iMovie HD. The system is not seeing the DAC on the fire wire bus. I have tried new cables, plugging into a native bus etc etc. but no go. The DAC is admitted 5 years old but worked perfectly up to now. I am loath to have to scrap it because of a Fire wire incompatibility issue. Anyone else out here with similiar issues and a possible solution - or else off to the mail-order I go and cough up 200

I cannot help, sorry, but I read here many reports concerning Converters worked/then failed....
I recommend http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie.html to report in detail your system's profile and converter specs.... maybe, there IS some <bad word following> bug???

.wpl appears to be a Windows Media Player playlist. I can find no conversion software for that, and Windows Media Player is not available for Mac anymore.
If you can persuade him to download iTunes and create the playlist as mp3 in a iTunes playlist, or even just burn the base mp3 files to CD as a data disc, that's about the only solutions I can suggest.

It warns me of duplicate video files. Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Imovie not playing back video from one event

Select vidoes in iMovie '09 won't play back for me. All I get is a black box, no audio, no video. The issue appears to be confined to videos from one particular event. The preview shows up just fine, but no actual video.
The videos were taken and imported from the same Sony camera as the videos that do work. They also play back fine in Quicktime. The format is .mov. Any ideas?

Fixed the issue myself. Here's a step-by-step because I what found online pertaining to this issue were not clear on how to fix it. (Note that this is what I did to fix the problems, some of the steps might not be strictly necessary.)
How to get movies to start playing back again in iMovie '09:
1.) Close iMovie.
2.) Delete contents of the "iMovie Cache" folder for the event that is not playing back correctly.
- There are were two files "Cache.mov" and "Cache.plist", I deleted both.
3.) Restart iMovie
This appeared to force the program to generate new files and start working correctly. From what I read on other postings it was probably caused by the program not closing properly, which I seem to recall it crashing on me or my wife a while ago.

I appreciate you taking the time to post a reply, but please try to read the question before you do so in the future. I had said that files imported from the same camera work correctly (i.e. the same file type/codec), so the problem is obviously not a codec issue. Furthermore, .mov is the extension for the QuickTime File Format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.mov).

Imovie not syncing reaction videos together

So Whenever i do reaction videos on imovie, for example im watching a music video in the video, i try and add the music video on as picture in picture but it's out of sync with the video of me watching it. How? Because i have the sound of the music video on the video of me watching it and its the same video so it should be on time but it like not idk.
Do i have to default imovie?

I'm not clear why you need both sound tracks with the same music on at the same time.

Download helper no longer works - icon is there but it does not recognise flv video on any site - not a PC guru so easy help needed !!!!

I have only just started to use Firefox as I got very tired of IE. I watch a lot of flash/flv videos on many different sites and sometimes like to download some of these (which I could do on IE but couldn't here). I downloaded the add on "download helper" which was great and worked really well and easily but all of a sudden it now no longer works (the icon is still there but it won't recognise any type of video form any site at all - and I have no idea at all how to repair/fix it.
I am not a PC expert or guru so any kind of easy step by step help will be greatly appreciated (I don't want to have to go back to the horrible IE please!!!!!)

why is it when using imovie when you scroll through the timeline it doesn't show in the movie window this is for imovie 11 when editing a large video composedof many small clips

7.4.1 and iPhone - not recognising watched video - keeps downloading

The latest bugfix version of iTunes is not acting on the 'watched/deleted' flag on video from my iPhone.
For example - I have iTunes set up to only sync unwatched episodes of my seasons pass to Mad Men to my iPhone. On my iPhone once I watch an episode I delete it - clearing space for the next week's program to be downloaded.
Previously once I watched a program on my iPhone it was marked watched on iTunes at the next sync and not downloaded. Now when I watch a program on my iPhone it remains marked as new and is therefore downloaded again to my iPhone.
I can't tell whether this behaviour changed in 7.4 or 7.4.1 - as I only noticed it after the upgrade this morning.

This is happening for me on Movies, TV Shows, and podcasts. It is extremely annoying, lets hope this can be addresses soon.

Has anyone else encountered a problem with poster frames not recognising a video's pixel aspect ratio

I'm discovering a strange effect with some of the .mp4 videos I've upload into iBooks Author. They're Pal SD 4:3 .movs with a 16:9 pixel aspect ratio and they play out fine on the iPad. However the iBooks software seems to be ignoring the pixel aspect ratio of the poster frame. This leads to the situation.
1) When I drag my video into iBooks author all looks good - the video is 16:9 and if I choose to set a poster frame (or leave it at default) it looks 16:9 in the iBooks Author.
2) I preview my book and it opens in iBooks on the iPad. But now the poster frame aspect ratio is 4:3
3) I click on the video to start playing and it immediately jumps to 16:9 aspect ratio and plays out fine.
4) If it scroll down a couple of pages and then scroll back the video poster frame has now reset itself to 4:3
This sounds like a bug to me. Anyone else had it? Do you know if it's possible to report bugs without having a Developer licence?

IPhoto not recognising date

When I open iPhoto to import photos from my camera, it puts the device in the side menu as a listed device, but it won't allow me to import anything from after the 15th. When it has the dates, it lists the 15th as the "to:" date. It does the same for my iPhone. I don't know what to do to change it to get photos from after this date.

The fifteenth of what?
What date is your Mac set to? Your camera set to?

GARAGE BAND TO ITUNES TO IMOVIE not recognising Garageband files from iTunes

Hi there. I am trying to import interview voice files from Garageband into iMovie. I have used the Share option to export to iTunes and have then opened iMovie to drag the files from my iTunes lists. Files showing up in iMovie as '0' secs in length. But in iTunes they are showing up as full files (approx 13 minutes). Have tried MP3 and AAC - same problem. What am i doing wrong? I am using Garageband 11 and iMovie 11 on a MacBook Pro running Version 10.6.8

I think it may be easier to export from GB as AAC and then convert to AIFF in iTunes.
Here are the instructions from iTunes Help. Remember when you are finished to go back and change the iTunes import preferences to what it originally was.
You can convert a song to a different file format (and keep a copy of the original). For example, you can save a copy of a compressed song file such as MP3 or AAC in an uncompressed song format (AIFF or WAV).
When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF), you shouldn’t notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example, MP3 and AAC), you may notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, importthe music again from the original source using the new encoding format.
Important: You can’t convert iTunes Store purchases unless they’re iTunes Plus songs.

Choose iTunes > Preferences, click General, and click Import Settings.
In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert songs to, and click OK to save the settings.

Apple id disabled not recognising date of birth

Hi
Tried to log-in to my icloud account today and it said it was 'disabled for security reasons'.
It told me to reset my password at iforgot.apple.com, when I go to do this I am asked if I want to verify it by email or answer security questions.
I ask for a verifying email but as I cannot get into my account I cannot get the email as my account is disabled! the other account it might be sent to is an old work account that is no longer in use.
If I ask to answer security questions it asks for my date of birth and then it says this is incorrect when I know it is right.
Please what can I do, I use this as my work email and I am desperate for an answer

Imovie not creating shared video

I have been using imovie '09 for a few years to export movies into Youtube share files. It has always worked before.
It takes about 15 minutes, "Creating the HD movie" , but when that ends, there is no file created for me to share.
I am using the - share - export movie function. And I select (HD size).
It has always worked perfectly before

Well, never mind! I believe it's my camera. Tried importing using iMovie 08 and it doesn't create clips either. Has got to be the camera. It played a few weird tricks on me during our last vacation like displaying 90 minutes avail on a 60-minute tape. Have been thinking about ditching it for an HD one and I guess the time is now. 7 years old is probably it for a camcorder! Thanks.

yeah, i too have the same problem, there are 66 videos in total but iTunes is syncing only 44 vidoes, it's not that the rest 20 are missing(location is correct and it plays on itunes as well), just only the videos that I used in the older iTunes are being sycned not the new ones... the new iTunes suck thou..

Just want iMovie to "Forget" iPhoto videos

Is there a way to make iMovie "Not list" all video clips from iPhoto inside iMovie 11? I have thousands of videos that load upon startup and they are all mistagged with the wrong date several cameras ago (Typically Jan 1903). I really just want iMovie to use events I import or drag inside. Can this be done or is there an easier way than date change hundreds of videos which seem to be tagged correctly in iPhoto?

I'd like to know this too as it's really quite annoying.
You'll probably find it's one of those 'usefull features' they have introduced in '11.
I can't understand why they do this sort of thing & not give you an option to switch it off.
It's like Faces in iPhoto, chews up memory & time everytime you import photos even if you don't use it.
