IMovie on iBook G4

I have two computers, an iMac G4 desktop and an iBook G4. My vidoe camera is a Canon and I have used iMovie many times on the desktop to create iMovies from this camera, through a Canopus translator. However, I am unable to transfer videos through the same translator to my iBook. The screen shows "camera connected" and "camera running" when I attempt to transfer in the usual method. However, all I get is a blue screen and no transfer to to the iBook. The Help section suggests many steps, including turn off, disconnect all cables, check date information, etc., and all have been done, but to no avail. Any idea what I can do to use my iBook for this project rather than my iMac desktop? Thank you for your help.

I quote QuickTimeKirk:
”Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”

  • IMovie on iBook?

I have both an iMac and an iBook G4 and i recently purchased a single download version of iLife '08. According to the package, the software works with a PowerPC G4 processor, but it said iMovie required a PowerPC G5 processor. I would really like to install this on my iBook, but will I be able to?
    Thanks,

No-iMovie 08 will not work on a G4. But, Apple does offer a free download of iMovie 6 if you haven't already got it.

  • Using iMovie on iBook?

Hi everyone! (also posted this on the ibook forum)
I was wondering if any of you are using iMovie on your iBook, and is satisfied with its performance!? My iBook does not have a superdrive, therefor I will have to buy an external dvd burner for it. But soon I'll buy an imac or mac mini. But if i could wait a little while i would be glad! So, I just want to know if any of you are happy using your ibook, despite its lack of performance (compared to the newer intel macs).

    Hi Anders
iBook - Should work - Don't know really.
iMac vs miniMac: I would really go for the iMac. It has a speedier hard disk
and there are more to it to make movie editing better/easier on this one.

  • IMovie HD/08: Need help merging projects from both versions.

I have some video that was imported using iMovie HD6 (saved to my internal hard drive with some editing already done) and some using iMovie 08. (Save to an external hard drive and unedited). I realized later that iMovie 08 lacks features available on iMovie HD6. I would like to move all video to my external hard drive and merge my projects. I would then like to edit the whole thing on iMovie HD6. I've noticed that I can simply drag my iMovie 08 project directly into iMovie HD6 and directly into my other project. However, it wants to save it to my internal hard drive. (No where near enough space on my internal drive for that). Is it safe to assume that if I were to move my iMovie HD6 project onto my external drive that it would then attempt to import/merge my iMovie 08 project keeping it on my external drive? Also, do I run a risk of losing any editing already done to my iMovie HD6 project if I move it to my external drive? If not, is there a right or wrong way to move it? Also, my external drive is connected to my computer via USB. Am I going to have any problems editing from my external drive because of that?

I am trying to transfer a movie project I made on my work computer (MacBook Pro, iMovie '08) to my home computer (iMovie HD, iBook). I've transferred the files using a Lacie, but when I open iMovie HD on my personal computer, it does not let me open the project I desire.
As you have already found, iMovie '08 projects, as such, are not backwards compatible with previous versions of iMovie. iMovie '08's project basically consists of a list of instructions detailing how a project is to be exported while previous versions of iMovie actually rendered physical file segments ordered properly in a physical timeline reference file.
I can import, but not the whole file, it keeps putting items in the trash. I have exported Mobile, Medium, and Large files.
Basically you have two options. You can either import your raw footage (the Event clips) and "re-create" a project in iMovie HD or export your iMovie '08 project, complete with edits to an HD compatible format (e.g., DV or AIC/AIFF) and import this file into iMovie HD. Unfortunately, this latter approach will not allow you to "manipulate" your previous edits.
Basically, I want to be able to open the file in iMovie, in case I wanted to duplicate it or edit it.
As indicated above, you can import iMovie '08 shared/exported files to iMovie HD but you then have to edit them as source files. To remove a previous edit, you would literally have to delete it from your new project in order to add another.
I also want to be able to continue burning copies of this movie slideshow to DVD (I created a DVD project using iDVD).
Previously authored and burned DVDs can be copy-burned by applications like Toast or used to create stored "image" files that can be used to burn new DVDs on an as needed basis in the Mac OS "Burn" folder or using the Disk Utility application. In fact the "image" file can also be created for this purpose from within iDVD.

  • Memory problem please help Idmediently

Hey guys, Ive got an ipad 3 (16gb) and I had a look on my memory i have a few games and apps (GarageBand, keynote, imovie, pages, monoply, game of life and a few others) and it said 12.2 gb used and 1.2gb available i think that's counted wrong and I know approx 1000mb is 1gb it's impossible what do I do to get it accurate, even my brain holds more memory than that! Please help ASAP also I've tried restarting it
Here is a list of apps:
    GarageBand 696mb
    Imovie 531mb
    Ibooks 366mb
    Keynote 362mb
    Numbers 336mb
    Pages 311mb
And 52 apps are 150mb and under
I know that I had the same number of apps yesterday and the memory was 8.2gb I want it to be accurate.
    Reply ASAP.

Centipedee, No memory problem, you don't have enough room. It can take at least 2 times the required memory to load an app to the iPod. Once it loads it only requires 1.8GB of memory space but to get it there you'll need at least (maybe more) 3.6GB of space, I know it sounds screwy but it's how it works. Hope this helps, Good luck.

  • All application licenses and configurations lost

I rebooted my iMac today and something very odd has happened.  First of all, it asked me to log into iCloud, which it never usually does so that seemed odd.
Then when I launched Carbon Copy Cloner, it said I was using a trial version, which I am not.  So I had to find and re-enter my registration key.
I have since found that ALL my apps that have serials or keys have now forgotten them and reverted to trial versions.  When I launch apps such as Aperture, it starts with "Welcome to Aperture" or whatever is supposed to happen on first use.  Likewise MS Office and everything else.  iMoves, iPhoto, iBooks, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, EVERYTHING.  All apps are reset to their first installed state and all personalisations lost.
Does anyone know what might have happened (and how to fix this)?
I have a full system backup from a few days ago and Time Machine backup from earlier today if needed.
    Thanks

I gave up fighting to figure out what was wrong with OS X. I just repartitioned the harddrive after backing up and re-installed the OS an applications.

  • How to Connect iBook with HDTV for iMovie?

How can I connect my iBook G4, which has iMovie 7, to an HDTV (or its VCR) in order to download the HDTV's digital file, for iMovie? I do this now for an analog signal TV using analog to digital converter between my iBook and an analog TV VCR. Will appreciate comments. Chuck Y. Chicago. 28 November 2008.

12/9/2008. My own answer follows. I phoned Apple Tech Support and they did not know. I phoned Computer Discount Warehouse Tech Support where I bought my iBook and they did not know. I phoned the Apple Store and they did not know, but said it would take a cord with the three--red, white, yellow--plugs for the TV set into a firewire plug for the iBook. I phoned Radio Shack and they did not know nor have such a cord. I phoned MacMall and they did not know. Finally I phoned Canopus who makes the converter to use between an analogue TV and my iBook, and they said that the converter would also accept the digital to digital signal from the TV VCR (after mid February 2009 TV change to digital) to my iBook. Best wishes. C. Yopst, Chicago

  • I made a book in iBooks author, and I want to add an intro video. I made one in iMovie, and I want to pass it to the intro of my book. How?

Hi, I want to move an iMovie trailer into iPhotos so I can add it to the intro of my iBooks Author intro clip. It is for school and I need it urgentrly. THANK YOU!!

Export it from iMovie into a format that iBooks Author understands. I'm 99% sure it doesn't have to go into iPhoto to be used, but ask on the iBooks Author forum for help with that.

  • The CD for iPhoto 2, iMovie 3 would not load in my Apple iBook Dual USB.

The CD for iPhoto 2, iMovie 3 would not load in my Apple iBook Dual USB.
    It was "NOT AUTHORIZED".
Can anyone tell me what this means?
    Thank you

Take another look. A (nominal) 10 GB hard drive only has about 9.31 GB to begin with. The OS takes up some room, as do other applications.
Please check out how much space has been used and how much remains available.

  • Does iMovie 6 run on iBook G4?

    Hello Discussioners,
I have been thinking about upgrading my system to Tiger and installing iMovie 6. Going through the system requirements, I saw that iMovie themes require Quartz Extreme. According to Apple these graphic cards support QE: Any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU, with 16 MB VRAM or better (this would include my ATI Mobility Radeon 9200)
On the other hand Core Image needs at least a Radeon Mobility 9700 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301347).
I have read a couple of posts regarding problems/inability to use the new themes in iMovie 6 and am trying to make sure my iBook meets the requirements, but am really unable to find conclusive info (and the themes are really the only thing I would get iMovie 6 for)
Specs: iBook G4, 1.25Ghz, 512 RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon 9200.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated - especially those of people who run iMovie 6 successfully on an iBook G4
    thanks in advance

    Mish:
    Now I am rather confused...
This is what graphics says in the System Profiler:
    NVIDIA GeForce2 MX:
    Chipset Model: GeForce2 MX
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    VRAM (Total): 32 MB
    Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0110
    Revision ID: 0x00b2
    ROM Revision: 1057.008
    Displays:
    iMac:
    Display Type: LCD
    Resolution: 1024 x 768
    Depth: 32-bit Color
    Built-In: Yes
    Core Image: Not Supported
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Supported
Yet, when I try to open iMovie, it gives me the error about how my mac may not have the proper graphics card...
Silly me-I have believed it and assumed that I couldn't do it.
Now mind you-I forgot my Video camera at work, but I did make a complete iMovie with stills, themes, audio and transitions. Even applied a video FX to some of the photos!
Long story short...I have no idea and I thank you for making me try this, mish!

Let me comtinue to play-this time with video.

  • Will a Sony DCR-HC90E work with imovie on my G4 ibook ??

    Hi
Looking to buy a camcorder to use with my G4 ibook.
will the above work and will i have to buy anything extra to
    get it to work ??
any other info on other camcorders welcome.
I am a complete beginner so basic answers please
    Cheers Perry

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
    Yes, it'll work.
You'll also need to buy a 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire (also known as DV or i.Link) cable to connect a camcorder to your Mac. This cable will not be in the box, although a USB cable will probably be. The USB cable is for transferring stills, not video.
For a review of this camcorder (..it may take a while to load..) read here.

  • IBook G4 and iMovie

I have been a loyal and avid Apple and Mac fan since 1985, but tonight they've lost me as a customer. I went to the Apple Store at the Sprawl of america tonight to discuss the issue of upgrading the software in my iBook G4 or purchasing a new Mac. The specific issue I addressed with them was the need to migrate to newer iMovie software from the Panther vintage iMovie 4.0 on my machine. After lengthy discussions with a both a teal shirted "trainer" and a blue shirted "Genius" I was convinced to purchase the "Mac Box Set" with Leopard 10.5.6, iLife '09 and iWork '09. "It's a great package and will save you a lot of money over buying Leopard and either of the other apps separately."
Well, that part was true. Unfortunately, iMovie '09 *WILL NOT RUN* on my machine. And, while Apple has apparently faced this issue for some time, they've taken down solutions that will run on my machine. Here's the deal, if i just went in, grabbed the box off the shelf and paid for the software, shame on me. But I didn't. I made the point of speaking to 3 different employees to make certain I got the solution that I would need. I even specifically said that perhaps it was time to just upgrade the machine rather than the software, but no, they all told me the little boxed magic set was the way to go.
Thanks a lot, Apple. After 24 years, guess I'm a PC!

Surely if you were that clear about your questions the staff would remember, be able to apologize for their mistake and accept the software as a return. With your money back in your pocket you could take your self to a different store, perhaps an independent small business in your community that deals primarily in macs and is more likely to be a dedicated fan such as yourself.
It is an error made by the store staff and not by yourself. Stand your ground and get your money back.
Mac vs PC? I hear you...My original 128k mac is in my closet..... Oh to have the $$$$ to upgrade.
Today Apple Customer service agreed to mail me an Apple Hardware Disk for free to help with my attempts to diagnose the sick ibook G4 I have acquired. It's not all bad. Just try dealing with a PC customer service rep about a windows issue... I tried that this past summer to help my computer illiterate sister in law. I'll take apple/mac any day over that.
Not all apple staff are dough heads. You just need some perspective. Try living 6 hours away from the nearest apple dealer.
Take a deep breath. Upgrade that mac and enjoy. Find someone for whom your iBook G4 would be an upgrade and make them happy. My university student would think she'd died and gone to heaven to have such a treat. You must know someone who is in a similar boat.
Nope you're not a PC. Trust me.

  • IMovie for Clamshell iBook

I know, it will be mad slow, and even though i have imovie 6 on my imac G5, i want to get imovie working on my indiglo ibook. What was the latest vertion of imovie to support resalutions below 1024X786 and where can i get it? Is there a way to hack the newer vertion to run on this tiny (800X600) display?

You can use imovie 2, but it will be difficult to find it for anything but OS 9.
