IMovie opens wrong camera archive

Hi -
I have a bunch of camera archives stored on an external hard drive. I can't seem to get iMovie to open one, becuase, once I select the hard drive, iMovie says "Camera archive detected - Click Import to Proceed". It will NOT, at this point, allow me to select a directory that contains the camera archive that I want to import.
Of course, I don't want to import 20 camera archives. I want to choose one.
It appears that someone thought it would be helpful to assume that an external drive would have only one camera archive on it. Probably true for a SD card, but not for a 2 terabyte hard drive.
Is there a way to import a camera archive, if there are other camera archives on that external drive?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Are you using File>Import>Camera Archive? You should be able to select the one you want.

  • IMovie 11 import camera/archive not displaying movies, import not possible

    Guys,
hope anyone can help me with this one:
I had some issues with my iMac lately crashing with kernel panics. It crashed (kernel panic) while i was importing some HD material into iMovie 11. ever since, I cannot see any movie thumbnails in the import view (the actual movies are still on the camera/SD card. Also importing from iSight is not possible. The green light next or the camera is on, while no window or an empty import window is visible.
I did delete the whole iLife 11 suit, incl. all references to iMovies (preferences,...) and then a complete reinstall and updated all again.
    Unfortunately no luck so far.
Any tips or thoughts what I could do next as I really don't want wipe and reinstall all on my mac again?
    Cheers from DownUnder

    Hi,
My problem is very similar. I am able to choose the Archive folder and import the footage that way.  However, I am only able to do that once.  If I try again, it states the file is not a camera archive format file.
The only way I can get it to work again is to completely close out iMovie and restart.  Then I can import an archived file.  But then again, only once before I have to restart iMovie to get it to work again.
    Anyone have any workarounds?
    Thanks

  • Unable to place disk image in Camera Archives

The Final Cut Pro X manuals show that one can import a disk image of a movie into Final Cut Pro X by opening the camera archives. I have made a disk image file (.img) from an iMovie 6 project file. (The video appears as a VTS file in the Video TS folder.) How do I get it to appear in my camera archives file so that I can import it into Final Cut Pro X?

That's a disk image for an authored DVD. You can't. It's in an MPEG-2 that's not supported for production only for delivery. You would need to use something like MPEG Streamclip to rip it.

    From Google Translate:
"I archived the contents of my camera SONY HDR-XR550 in iMovie. When I want to access my data, I go to File> Import> Archive camera ... An import window opens. I select a camera archive and then click Import. A failure message appears: "This file is not an archive of camera" What should I do? Help!"
Make sure that you are clicking on the Archive folder - not on the contents of the folder. Also, ensure that you are going to the correct folder where you have saved your archives. iMovie creates a blank folder called "iMovie Camera Archives" in your Home Movies folder. If this is empty you will get the message you've described. You may have put your archives in a different folder.
    French translation of my reply:
"Assurez-vous que vous cliquez sur le dossier Archives - pas sur le contenu du dossier. Aussi, assurez-vous que vous allez vers le bon dossier où vous avez enregistré vos archives. iMovie crée un dossier vide appelé "iMovie photo Archives" dans votre dossier Séquences d'accueil. Si cela est vide, vous obtiendrez le message que vous avez décrit. Vous avez peut-être mettre vos archives dans un dossier différent."

  • In iMovie 10.0.5 ('14) how can I create a Camera Archive (just like in iMovie '11)?

I used to be able to import a Camera Archive in the previous version of iMovie.  How can I do the same with the latest iMovie version (10.0.5)? Is it even possible?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tip QuickTimeKirk.  Out of curiosity: does this mean that it is no longer possible to create camera archives in the latest version of iMovie?  Or with the changes in the iMovie platform, is it enough with simply dragging the AVCHD package into your laptop?

  • Import camera archive not working in iMovie '11 on 1.8.2?

I typically copy the contents of my camcorder to a folder on disk and then would select "import camera archive". However, now with Moutain Lion it is not recognizing any of my folders as a AVCHD folder?
As a test, I took a DMG file (which is how I used to do it, because prior versions of iMovie didn't support anything other then this) and performed a "archive all" on that DMG.. This should be no different then copying the files and tried on this newly created Camera Archive and I get the same results?
It seems that with moutain lion, tha AVCHD contents of are now recognized by Finder and show up as a type "AVCHD Content"..
    Help!?
    thanks,

  • Can't open solid state camera archives

    Hi,
Just noticed when I upgraded that I can't look through m4v files anymore using finder... the whole camer archive is just called a BDV file (or something simialr) and FInder can't open it to get to the indivual video files.
I think I can look at the files by opening the "import" window in FCP X but I don't want to do that every time?
    Soluitons anyone?

From your description it sounds as if Camera Raw isn't installed, or is installed incorrectly. In Photoshop go to Help/about plug-ins/Camera Raw and verify that you have it installed correctly. Since you are on a Mac, I cannot advise as to where it should be installed.
The other thing I have been thinking about in your situation is, how were these images downloaded from your camera?if you used an older version of Nikon Transfer it can alter the files so that they cannot be opened in Camera Raw.
Do you have other software like ViewNX2 or CaptureNX2, and will those programs open your files?

I loaded video from an external hard drive to my desktop. How do I import the video into iMovie 09? I tried "Import Camera Archive". Didn't work.

It depends on the type of video. iMovie will only import video that it can edit.
In general, you would use FILE/IMPORT MOVIE...

  • Importing Camera Archive into new iMovie

I have years of old AVCHD camera archives on my hard drive from my old camcorders.  To work with those files, with prior versions of iMovie it was as simple as importing it (File->Import->Camera Archive as simply stated here: iMovie '11: Import video from a camera archive into iMovie)
Just upgraded to Yosemite and running iMovie 10.0.6.  When I use the import feature and navigate to where the archives are on my hard drive, they don't show up as importable.  Despite the folders and AVCHD files showing up in Finder, they do not show up in iMovie's menus.  What am I missing?  Appreciate any thoughts.

Well, interesting thing upon further research.
All my AVCHD archives were in a standard folder under Movies->iMovie Camera Archives.  Within that folder there is folder after folder of archives.  I can see them just fine in Finder.
When I go to the "iMovie Camera Archives" folder in iMovie it says: "iMovie Camera Archives.localized" and NONE of those sub-folders show up.  I copied one of the archives to my desktop and it imported perfectly fine.  So it's something odd about the iMovie Camera Archives folder itself that is preventing me from importing all those archives.  Odd.  Thanks!

  • Tagging camera archive files imovie

Since a few weeks I own a Sony HD camera, recording to SD card. Once in a while I will have to unload the videos from this card to my iMac. Fortunately iMovie has the "Archive all" feature to do this, storing the clips from the SD card into a camera archive as individual files per clip. Over time, however, this will become an unmanageable bunch of clips and finding the right clips to compose a video would require a lot of work going through all of them. Is there a way to tag these clips, just as you would do with photo's ? Importing would then be a lot easier by first finding all clips matching certain criteria. So far I have not been able to find such a feature in iMovie itself.

The way iMovie is designed, you need to import the archived clips into an iMovie Event. Once you have done so, it is easy to tag them. iMovie will sort video into Events based on day. You can further divide the events or combine events if you need to. You can go further by using keywords.
Archiving is for bulk storage. It is useful because it stores an exact duplicate of what is on the camera SD card.
When you import into an Event, it is converted to an editing format called AVCHD. (For why, see this link - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3941 )
See this link for how to tag video..
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac69b39
Also here is a good Tutorial which includes tagging video with keywords.
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html#Event%20Library
See also this video on keywords. It is for an older version of iMovie, but it is still applicable, with a few improvements in the new version.

  • Create camera archive produced blank archive

    Hi,
I tried to create a camera archive from a Sony Digital 8 camcorder playing back a Video 8 tape. The video showed on the screen and it said it was capturing. After 30mins when the footage was finished, I clicked stop. It asked me if I want to keep what has been capture so far so I clicked to keep it.
The archive created could not be opened in FCPX and looking in the finder the archive is 0KB in size. Has anyone else experienced this?

The footage is analog, but the camera outputs a digital signal and I am connecting it with firewire to the mac (I'm lucky to have one of the few Digital 8 camcorders that do that - bought it on ebay just for that purpose!).
The video displays on the screen in FCPX, but when it got to the end, the archive was 0KB in size.
    Capture works fine in iMovie.

  • When I try to open a photoshop image it opens in camera raw

I store all my images in jpeg.  Been doing my editing elsewhwere, but yesterday tried to use Adobe Bridge.  I opened a jpeg image in camera raw and was unsuccessful in getting what I wanted.  Now, when I try to open one of my jpeg images in Photoshop it opens in camera raw.  If I click on open image it opens, but in a size that is incorrect and is useless.  Help!!!!!!!

Hope the screenshots will help you.
On a Mac ACR prefs are in Bridge / Adobe Bridge / Camera Raw Prefs or if you open a file in ACR at the top is a row of icons, if you choose the menu icon it also provides you those prefs.
I was wrong about PSD, that should have been Tiff btw...
