Imovie - Previous Version

I am a new Mac user, my sales person told me the best version for creating and modifying movies is the previous version to imovie. What is the name of the software?

IMovie Crashes (both new and Previous Version Foldered)

I have checked to make sure i have all the lastest updates. I am using MacBook Pro w/ Leopard 10.51.
I've not tried to use iMovie before, so this is the first time I tried.. When I open the iMovie in the Applications Folder, it never shows open. When I do Apple-Ctr-Esc it shows its there, but I can't see it..
So then there is a iMovie(Previous version) folder and if I click iMovie it opens and then it says "Open previous movie or start a new one". As soon as I click either it crashes. It sends a message to apple too!
So I ran "Disk Utility" and it still does it.
Any ideas/??

Reinstall iMovie.

I have a finalized project in iMovie '11. Shared it on Youtube, Facebook, and Vimeo. Then, when I shared it to iDVD, it reverted to a previous version of the project, so my titles and pictures were out of sequence. My final project is now gone!

Now, in my list of projects, my project is there, but finalized as the previous version which is all out of sequence. My true final project is now gone! What happend?
I didn't notice this problem until after the DVD was burned in iDVD. Then, when I played the DVD in a public setting, I was a bit embarrassed by what played.

My first thoughts are
• iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
• in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

I accepted/installed an update for iMovie and it turns out that this version is not compatible with my graphics card. So now I can no longer open or use iMovie. Any ideas on how to get around this - how to revert to the previous version.

Look in your Applications folder. If your system behaved as expected, you should have an iMovie 9.0 folder in your Applications folder. Apple moved the old version there as even they suspected the new versions was a train wreck.

Upgraded to current iMovie but don't see videos from previous version

I have an iMac 27" mid 2011, and decided to upgrade yesterday to Yosemite 10.10. The upgrade went fine, but then discovered that iMovie would not work, so i had to run the update for iMovie which is currently 10.0.06. I have discovered that I cannot see any of my previous files from the previous version of iMovie that I created.
I upgraded my mac book pro to Yosemite and that has gone fine and when I upgraded iMovie it has imported all the previous files to the new version.
I did back up both the iMac and the macbook pro before upgrading both machines to my timemachine.
Any ideas as to what the problem is would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to lose my videos.

i dont think so as i'm suing same ios ver 5.1 on both iph 4 and 4s. one strange thing is when i use another iphone 4 to restore from icloud, after keyed in my apple id and pw, i can see latest back which i did on my old iphone 4. can this be ph specific problem which i dont think so?
one more question, on my new iphone 4s (after setting up as an new ph but using same apple id) when i go into icloud manage storage, i can see both this phone backup that is only about 20MB and my previous icloud backup that is about 290MB, i can only see as "delete backup" , how can i restore this ? this is what i seriously need to restore. thanks!

My 15" Macbook Pro running Yosemite keeps updating iMovie and iPhoto to one compatible with Yosemite the it updates again to the previous version that is not. Then it repeats itself.

Can I import Events and Projects from previous versions of iMovie

I just installed the latest version of iMovie - but I have a bunch of projects, events, etc. from previous version - going way back. Is there a way to move those items into the new version.

Yes. File - Update Projects and Events. Your iMovie 9 folders will still be available. (I would not delete any iMovie 9 stuff untill you are happy with iMovie 10 - its quite different.)

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

Yes. If you upgraded to Mavericks from an OS with iMovie 9, the application will still be in your applications folder in a subfolder imovie 9.0.9. When you imported your projects and events into iMovie 10 it should have left your iMovie 9 Projects and Events folders intact so you can launch imovie 9 and carry on where you left off.

I'm not very techy, so be gentle! i am using midvd app to burn home movies to dvd from iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. It now burns the dvd but there is nothing on the disc. its not recognised by the iMac or any other dvd player.

I was using midvd app(i never had idvd) to make home movies on dvd from imovie '11 version 9.0.9 with no problems before xmas 2013. ive just tried to make a new one today and it wont work.
It seems to burn to the dvd (you can see a mark on the back of the dvd as if it has some info on it) but it wont play on imac (just says blank disc) or any other dvd player.
I have tried reinstalling midvd app and also tried 2 other dvd creator apps and the same thing happens the app says its burning and the external superdrive whirs like its doing something but it wont play.
The only thing i have done since xmas is all the updates to the operationg system and updated imovie (i didnt like the new version so went back to using the previous one)
Any ideas - i am new to all things mac!

When you export your movie from iMovie, are you choosing H.264? That is the only compression method supported by this miDVD. Youc an give this a try first:
Use Share > Export to Quicktime > Movie to Quicktime Movie > choose Options and then make your choices in Settings, etc (you can choose whatever size your video is - mine was 720 HD at that time):
If that does not work, I'd suggest going to their support site as they claim to be able to burn to DVD.... I just checked their site and here is their list of supported file types:

Do owners of the previous version of garageband need to pay $4.99 for full content on the new version?

Hi guys, ilife 11 was included with my 2012 macbook air. When the new versions of the ilife apps were released recently, I could upgrade imovie and iphoto to the new version in the app store. However, garageband didn't show up as an update, but I could download the free version of garageband 10. It seems like the full content isn't included and I need to pay the $4.99 in-app-puchase fee to get full content.
I was wondering if this is what others have noticed.
Are owners of the previous version of garageband supposed to get the new version 10 with the full content for free?

Where have you looked? I found all previous content in GB 10 without buying more contents.
First of all, disable all filters. GarageBand 10 will by default come up with "Filter for more relevant contents" enabled and only display a few loops - at least, it did for me.
Rebuild your Loop index from the pop-up menu at the top of the loop browser. Look for your previous instruments in the "Legacy" section of the Instruments panel in the Inspector. See my post here for a few screenshots of the controls and menus you need to be looking for:

Where All Previous Version Tools?

Where are the transitions and all other tools that were in previous versions of iMovie on the Maverick system. The whole software is tripped down to nothing! iTunes says this iMovie that came with my new MacBook Pro Retinal is the currect version ... BUt how can that be when everything is grayed out, and I see no way to upgrade it, or get them to be part of the soft
This version is almost useless, and on your top of the line computer!

I asked you why the transitions were greyed out and not available and you send me to the help I could get within the program, and which does not address my question at all. Are you telling me that all those tools formerly included in ALL versions of iMovie are now gone? They are never going to be available, not even with an upgrade of the program. Why would you leave the choices in the program, but not available? What are Apple users supposed to use now to do better video editing ... Something we buy from Apple? ... Because I would buy Adobe Premiere before I did that.
This is the worst decision I have seen Apple make in 25 years, and it is unacceple on your top of ther line MacBook Pro.

Does the new version of pages for ipad have backwards compatability with previous versions of Pages?

This one question is preventing me from downloading the new version of pages - I am worried I will lose the ability to read documents made with the previous version of pages, or that they will be automatically converted into the new format without my knowing. My laptop does not have Mavericks so I will have to keep using an older version of pages here, but I am reluctant to download the new version to my ipad because of concerns that users have previously voiced about the lack of backwards compatability. Is this still the case, or is there now backwards compatability?

Apple is out to attract iOS users, who mainly do selfies and twitter. They pay better because they are undemanding, don't even notice when Apple offers them something inferior and have been broken in with the iTunes Store harness.

I really do not like working with iMOVIE 8. Do you know if I can install a previous version such HD on the same computer. If so, will both be available?

Firefox update 10 won't open and the previous version 3.6 won't load any pages. I have done everything this site said to do. HELP?

The last version of Firefox that I had was the one before 3.6. I stopped upgrading due to it always messing up and not working right for me... whether it be due to vista, or just errors on your part. My husband decided to upgrade firefox to the newest one two days ago because the version I had was just "too slow!" Ever since he did that, I cannot get firefox to open. No matter how many times I uninstall it and delete everything mozilla on my computer then reinstall after restarting my computer, it just refuses to open. Every time i try it says that firefox has stopped working. It cant even check for solutions. I then try to click on the icon and I get something that says: firefox.exe - Bad Image C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_d09154e044272b9a\MSVCP80.dll is either not designed to run n windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
I have tried installing it over and over again several times, same message shows up. So i had clicked on the link to go download the previous version of firefox... what sucks is that the only version on the site is 3.6.27. I have never upgraded to this. So the second i installed that version, i now am able to open up firefox... BUT it is unable to connect. I have internet... a pretty bad ass connection. So my internet is not the problem. I then looked up how to fix that issue and did all 5 things listed under the Firefox cant load pages but other browsers can link. Still nada! I am now stuck using IE and going insane. I am on the verge of throwing my laptop out of the damn window because I have to wait 3 hours for google to load. Nothing is working for me... and it would be appreciated for something more. If i can get help with a ton of details on what to do or how to fix this issue... either version... i would greatly appreciate it. I am going nuts having to put up with IE because my husband decided to update Firefox to a version that sucks with vista!
