IMovie-project finalization stops halfway.

Using Imovie for first time.  Figured out most of process except Project Finalization, it runs for about an hour and then stops with the following message:
"Unable to prepare project for publishing.  The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (OpWr Err: file already open with with write permission"
How can I resolve this?

Cant publish movie

The music i've put into an imovie project has stopped working. How do I get it back?

As far as I am aware, I have always used the standard keyboard and texting apps that came with the phone.  There is no swype option on the keyboard any longer. The keyboard is just standard numbers and letters that have to be pressed individually. When I go to settings to try to change anything in swype, it looks as it would if swype were working - it shows all the settings for swype are correct - it just doesn't show up when the keyboard pops up for any apps or function on the phone.
I placed the phone in SafeMode and still not able to use swype.

SO I KEEP TRYING TO FINALIZE IMOVIE PROJECT AND... NOT FINALIZE BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN HEAP ZONE?

The experts at a store told me that this usually is a problem of not having enough memory available for the system to finalize the project.  I moved some movies to a hard drive, but still haven't been able to solve the problem.

While iDVD can behave as Sue suggested, iDVD actually isn't involved when we export an iMovie project to a Full Quality movie. Something else must be going on.
Your description sounds there's something wrong with the movie, something causing the export to fail.
Make sure, first of all, that the iMovie project is stored on a drive that is formatted as needed by iMovie. The drive must use a Mac OS Extended disk format. Use the Get Info window in the Finder to check the disk format. (If the project is stored on your internal drive then the drive is probably okay, unless you've done something pretty unusual with your Mac.)
Make sure too that there's sufficient disk space for the exported movie. It will need about 13 GB per hour. If your drive is filling up, that can cause major problems, especially if the internal drive is filling up. Mac OS X needs elbow room to work, and it may be getting a bit crowded.
Sometimes there can be a problem with an audio file imported to iMovie. If the export fails at the same place each time, it's a good chance that's what happening. You might try turning off the two audio tracks and exporting. If the export succeeds, that suggests a problem with the audio.
The trick is find the precise problem. One way is to export increasingly small chunks of the project, dividing the project in half until you identify the problem area. Then replace the audio at that spot. Use the "Export selected clips only" checkbox in the export dialog window to limit the clips you export. (The selected clips must be contiguous in the Timeline.)
It's pretty hard to tell from here what might be the problem. It might come down to trial and error on your part to find the problem spot, if there is one.
    Good luck.
Oh, if you have third-party iMovie plug-ins or QuickTime add-ons you might want to try disabling them:

  • IMovie project has suddenly stopped working

I have a macbook pro OSX 10.7.5 with 2.5GHz intel core processor with 500G hard drive.
I have been working on a project in iMovie (9.0.9) for months now, and one day while editing everything started lagging really bad. I quit all the apps running and restarted the computer, even deleted a few big files that I didn't need and re-opened iMovie. The project I was working on wouldn't open or play back anymore.
The project was still visible in the iMovie project library, the project file is still in the finder, all the raw footage in my events works fine, and all the other projects in the project library open and play back as normal. Does anyone know what the **** happened!? Please help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

  • Need help with lost iMovie project.

I was creating an iMovie project for school and needed to save it on a USB, so I clicked on 'Export Movie' from the 'Share' options menu in iMovie. I chose the type I wanted it saved in (viewing for computers) and then a smaller screen in iMovie popped up saying it was exporting the movie, or something like that. It took about a good 30 minutes and my project was a 7 minute movie with film clips, music, transitions, ect. I exported this project to my USB but when it finished it wasn't on there and when I finally found it on the Mac somewhere, I went to drag it into my USB but it said it was full. I then dragged the project onto my desktop and tried to open it to see if it worked. When I did the iMovie icon jumped once and stopped. I clicked on iMovie and it was still there in the projects screen. I then decided to close iMovie and open the project again from my desktop to see if it would play like a normal movie but once I clicked it the iMovie icon jumped again, opened but my project that I was trying to open was not there anymore and wouldn't open from my desktop file. I cannot open it at all and view it, it has been lost from my iMovie. Is there a way that I can get it back? Really need some help with this.

What version of iMovie are you using?

  • IMovie Project from External Hard Drive not Opening?

    Please help!!
Fairly new to MACs, iMovie and iDVD, I didn't have a clear understanding of how saving iMovie projects worked. Reading various tutorials, I thought I had a clear understanding of how they work. Apparently not with my recent frustration with iMovie.
I created several iMovie Projects but needed more space in order to make more projects for my internship thus I did what I thought was common sense -- get an external hard drive.
I exported iMovie projects into my user account and from there, dragged the saved projects into an external hard drive and then deleted the iMovie projects from my user account.
However, when I needed to retrieve these projects, I simply turned on my hard drive and clicked on them to open. However, whenever I tried opening them, they wouldn't open. Is it because I didn't export them to the hard drive in the first place?
What I don't understand is why iMovie is not opening or recognizing the saved iMovie projects from the external hard drive when the size and kind clearly indicate that it should open with iMovie automatically.
What is the proper way of saving my iMovie projects and events so that I can always have access to whenever I need to open up an old project or simply edit?

Freeing up space on your Mac hard drive in iMovies ’08.
The application iMovie ‘08 has two main libraries displayed in the iMovie window: Events and Projects. Events are the main imports from your video camera, say. These files are big and you have the option to save them on an external hard drive and so iMovie knows to find them there. Projects are your editing instructions like what clips you want and where. The files are small and you save them on your Mac hard drive. They are NOT the clips only signposts where to find them (in Events on your external hard drive). You can move Projects to your external hard drive as back-up but iMovie will not find them there. If you then delete Projects from your Mac, iMovie can no longer make use of them unless you manually export them back into iMovie from your external hard drive. See Apple Article HT1026 iMovie '08: Moving iMovie footage to another drive (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026). Here the external hard disk is used for moving Projects from one computer to another and, by implication, back to the source computer.
Sharing the projects to iTunes for syncing with Apple TV creates (publishes) movies that take up the same amount of space on your Mac as the source Projects. You can still burn DVDs in iDVD using the iTunes Movies as your Media so provided you have iMovie Projects backed up on your external hard drive you can delete them from your Mac and just use the iTunes Movies (for Apple TV and iDVD). In addition, publishing iMovie Projects in iTunes for syncing to Apple TV results in these files being duplicated in both Movies/iMovies Sharing/iTunes AND in iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies so delete them from here and get even more GBs back! Tell iTunes in Advanced not to save these iTunes published movies anymore in order to stop further duplication ocurring.

  • Unable to Export iMovie project in everyway I have attempted for the past 2 weeks. Please Help! Due date coming up!

I've unable to Export iMovie project in everyway I have attempted for the past 2 weeks.I have a late 2012 iMac with 8gb of RAM and 700 gb of free space on the hard drive. The video I am trying to export is 48 mins long with most of the source footage from a NIkon D3100 and several other cammcorders. I've been exporting with Apple Intermediate codec because that was the only one that has work so far but it only worked once and since then I have had to make changes to the project and now I'm unable to get it to work. For all Quicktime exports in H.264 or AIC (my prefered format for this export since I figured it'd offer the highest quality when I import it into Encore for making a dvd out of it) Which just stops exporting in the last few minutes without explination as to why or it crashes and quits. It either leaves a partial file or nothing at all. When I do "export movie" I get a "not enough memory Heap zone error"
I don't know what to do any help would be greatly appreciated!
By the way I happen to have Adobe CS6 Production Premium but didn't know how to use it as well when starting the project and now really regret not using it because it appears to be 10x more stable and capable of handling all the tasks I want it to do.

Are your event clips in h.264? If so, you can solve this by Right clicking on your Event Name and choose "Optimize Media". You can choose Full for 1080P or Large for 960P according to your preference.
After you have optimized your Event, you should be able to Share with no problem.

-108 mean you are running out of (free) RAM.
Try restarting the computer just prior to sharing. That frees up RAM.

    Final Entry
Ok - after much cutting, trial and error and days of work I have never really established a root cause for the -108 error. Nothing I did resolved the issue to the orginal project.
The only work around I have found is to split the Original Project into two.
What I found was that anything around the 60 mins mark and above just failed to render in HD and showed the -108 error.
What worked for me was creating two project files - one around 57mins long - the other a part 2 - around 17 mins long. All using exactly the same source clips, photo's, music and transitions as the orginal.
This now works. I guess having it split in two makes it a little easier to work with as I wont have to keep rendering the first part which does not change but really wish Apple would throw some light on this.
Anyway - I hope all of the above at least proves useful for others.
    Good Luck

  • Maximise DVD quality from completed iMovie project

I recently completed an iMovie project of my son's wedding shot on my new JVC Everio video camera.  All footage successfully downloaded in Full Quality into iMovie. I did all edits on iMovie. All seemed great ......and so very excitedly, I exported it straight to iDVD.
But then, I noticed that the movie size (right clicking the completed idvdproj /Show Package Contents/Resources/imovie) is now a measely 960 x 540.
Was there something else I should have clicked somewhere to stop the movie quality being the 960 x 540 - perhaps exporting it as a QuickTime at original quality 1280 x 720 or whatever it was from the camera. Is there a max that a DVD resolution dimension has to be? Or is the 960 x 540 as good as it gets for a DVD? Suggestions gratefully appreciated if I have missed a step somewhere along the way. Should I have exported it as HD720 or 1080 through QuickTime Export and not sending it through iDVD?  But instead wait until the QT Export is done and then dump it into a new iDVD?  All guesswork here. Im not sure so thought Id ask suggestions.
My son has an LCD LED television (1080p) and I would love to be able to present him his wedding dvd that looks as good as possible on his television (1080p).
    Kind regards
    Joe

    Hi
Other things that degrade Quality when going to iDVD are
    • Use of iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - Use iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version instead as they keep full interlaced picture (not discarding every second line)
    • Never use "Share to iDVD" within iMovie (as iMovie renders badly) - BUT use "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD) then in iDVD import from it's Media Browser.

  • Splitting an iMovie project

    Hello out there!
I have an iMovie project that is 8.38GB in size. I would like to burn it to a DVD but the DVD's will only hold 4.7GB. I tried to convert it to a Qtime movie but the quality was just not there. Is there a way to split the project down the middle in iMovie without using the click and drag every single clip to a new project method?
    Thanks

How to create a DVD in iDVD6 without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    3. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    4. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
    hope this helps!

  • How can i get imovie to finalize faster

Does it really take 15 hours to finalize a 50min video ?

If the time to finish is decreasing, that is a good sign, and it may finish.
If you check the Activity Monitor, you can tell if there is a hang condition going on.
I am not sure what Vimeo allows.
One thing you might try, but a little risky...
When you finalize, it creates copies in all available sizes.
You might look and see if any sizes have already completed. If so, you could copy and paste that size to another folder (or to your desktop) and start uploading that to Vimeo, while the remaining sizes finish.
If you are lucky, it will have done the largest sizes first.
Take care not to do anything to the file it is currently creating. You should be able to tell because it should be sort of gray and should show a zero size until it is finished.
OK to find it, go to your Movies/iMovie Projects folder.
Hold down the Control key while clicking on the Project name. Select SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS from the popup menu. Look inside the Movies folder in the package. If there are any completed movies, they would be in there.

  • Change iMovie project while Burning in iDVD?

I use iMovie to import and process football game clips from our games and scout games. I change some clips, add titles, etc., and then ship it to iDVD for making the .img file. This process works really well.
My question is once I start the .img burning process, can I close the source iMovie project and import a new set of clips (game) into a new project without harming the iDVD burn process?
I'm very hesitant to do this as I'm not sure of the relationship between the iMovie project and iDVD when burning the DVD/.img file. I don't want to harm the iDVD processes by going to another project. Yes, I know that I can probably recover quickly, but this is normally a time driven process done in the wee hours the morning after the football games. I don't want to have to recover and start anything over at that time of night.
My suspicion is that they are independent and I can import a second project while burning the first.
    Thanks

    ... I guess I got a bit dramatic there...
that is the question... (besides the actual "what is showtime?" in about 30min???)
I think, this is a typical Karl Petersen question..
    my knowledge stops at:
iDVD uses the .imovie file as a reference, to collect all items needed for conversion; the conversion itself is a step-by-step process (menu, audio, video...); if you now change anything WHILE encoding... e.g. change the ref.mov by editing the project, or, better, delete something (a music file)… then?!
that is a vry tricky process, a kind of "collaboration" as programmers would call it...- I'm no programmer, I'm a user: when finished, I quit iM, launch iDVD, tell my Cube "nitynight" and next morning (450MHz here), my .img is ready to burn on my disk....
