IMovie Project Not Opening After Attempts to Zip File

Hi all,
I am trying to clear some space from my external hard drive, and I have an iMovie project that is approximately 8 GB of space. I would like to back up the entire project file itself in case I need to edit it in the future, but I can't do that since it is larger than the ~4.4 GB size DVD-R discs. My idea was to create a zip file, and then split the zip file into smaller parts using the program Split & Concat.
I created a zip file of the project, and it appeared to work. I unzipped the file in a new directory (on my desktop, as opposed to the LaCie drive), and the file appeared to extract with no problems.
However, when I attempted to open it in iMovie, nothing happened. It was as if I hadn't done anything. I then tried to open the original project (on my LaCie drive), and encountered the same problem. The file size is still listed as just under 8 GB in both cases, and I have no idea what the problem could be.
My second iMovie project file on my LaCie (in the same directory as the file in question) opens just fine. Any thoughts? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

If you click the Project Library in the upper left corner, it should go to Edit Project. There you should find it.
You said it was in your Projects folder. Check to see if your clips are in the Events folder. Hopefully, nothing was deleted.

  • IMovie will not open after ram upgrade. How can I fix this?

I updated the ram on my computer by myself from 2gb to 4gb. Everything seemed to work fine, yet when I go to open imovie, it will not open after endlessly bouncing on my dock. I have verified disk permissions. Repaired disk Permissions. Tried replacing iMovie with the iMovie backup from my time machine. Cleared the system cache. Tried reinstalling it using the ilife 11 disk. Tried installing the previous ilife 09 version. Reinstalled snow leopard and did a time machine back up. Placed the old ram back in the computer. All this things done with no success.
DOES SOMEBODY HAVE ANY IDEA ON WHAT I COULD DO?
    regards
    Lloyd

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Faulty RAM - There are programs that can test this as Tech-tools (buy or in Apple Care pac)
    • Wrongly inserted RAM - Can be tricky and sometime not obvious - everything's looks OK but in certain situations it just randomly don't work.
Take out the new RAM and try Your Mac without it to see that it's still OK to start with and then very carefully re-install RAM and now be very careful to see that it snaps in exactly as it's intended to.

  • Imovie will not open after installing leopard

Leopard was installed and then ilife 08. Imovie would not open- what do I need to do?

welcome cw50 to the  boards..
reading the iM08 and the Leopard boards here at apple-discussions, and other ext. boards, you'll notice many topics like yours..
there's actual no 'official' or unofficial workaround to fix that ..
    just to add to database:
did you made a clean-install of 10.5. on your System?
or, as most of us would do, just 'upgrade' your OS, without reinstalling all software...?
and, please, don't hesitate to give Apple directly feedback:

  • Project not opening after CS5 Install

So I built a project in CS4, opened it in CS5, saved it as a different name, restarted and all I get is the Comp inside the Project box. Nothing happens when I click on the project in either CS4 or 5 now. Any ideas? Thanks

A project that you created in After Effects CS4 is not opening in either After Effects CS4 or After Effects CS5?
If so, please send the project with a bug report to aebugs -at- adobe -dot- com.

  • Events and Projects not opening after Restoring from broken Hard drive.

    Hi all!
I have a major problem. After almost 3 months editing 6 projects within the same library the hard drive died. These projects are for a very important client and are worth a lot of time and money. We always backup all the raw material on 3 hard drives so we do have all the raw material, however FCPX for some reason had stopped making backups of the projects after it was updated to 10.1.2.  (The loss of these projects could mean the downfall of my production company.) We had a professional data recovery company recover all the data to a new hard drive without any problem, we can see the libraries and open them, HOWEVER the events and projects within the libraries DO NOT OPEN OR SHOW UP.
I have entered into the library in the finder and everything seems to be there, all the events files show up. But FCPX wont recognize them.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks, Tom
You can see here that everything is inside the library folder.
But they don't show up in FCPX.
    P.S
Also this file is showing up only after the data was restored.

The journal files are something that've been generated by the data recovery. It's completely hosed the data base.
I don't know if this will work. Try carefully removing all the journal files. Put them somewhere else in folders with the location where they came from. Also move out the currentversion.flexolibrary file. Hopefully without the flexolibrary file the application will generate a new one.  Then launch the application.
WHy did you continue to operate when there were no backups, without even a hard drive backup?
Wwhat version of the software are you using? 10.1.2?

  • Emailed iMovie project not opening.

I recently made an iMovie project and emailed it to myself. But when i tried to open it on another computer, it just sent me right back to my email. I have no idea what is going on so....please help asap for this is a school project.

The iMovie project file references the clips in the associated Event (or Events). The clips are not actually copied to the project. That's why projects have a relatively small file size (and you were able to email it). The project file keeps track of all your edits, together with added music and photos, among other things.
So, you need to have all the media together in one location if you wish to edit your project on another computer. You will need an external hard drive for this, formatted as Max OS Extended (Journaled).
This excellent User Tip by AppleMan1958 describes how to move Events and Project to an external disk, and how to Consolidate media so that a project can be edited on another computer:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4141
It's essential that all the moves/copies are done from within iMovie - NOT from the Finder.
    John
EDIT: Sorry, just noticed that you had posted this question on 12 March (not sure how i came across it). Hope it's not too late! Otherwise, I trust that you got it all working OK and were able to complete your school project on time.

  • Imovie project not opening in imovie

    Help anyone?
My son has been editing a video of his grandfather, who died last year.  Sadly we have either exported or copied this video and now it does not appear in the imovie Project Library.  However the file is in the imovie Projects folder, but we cannot open it from there.  The icon in imovie projects shows an image, which is hopeful, but doesn't show a file size, which is worrying.
Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution?
Am using Imac 10.6 with imovie version 9.0.4
    Many thanks
    Susannah

  • Firefox will not open after attempting to upgrade to v5, sys restore didn't help

Was running 3.6 with no problems, but trying to upgrade today apparently broke it. The upgrade failed for some reason (the old .exe is still the only one in the Firefox folder & I can't find any files newer than April 2010 in there), but no matter how I try to run it, nothing happens - Firefox will not open, period. I tried reverting to last week with sys restore, scanning for malware with Malwarebytes, but still nothing happens. I'm using WinXP 5.1 media edition SP2 (yes, it's been around a few years but it works for me). I'm now using Chrome which seems to run just fine, tho I miss all my plugins.

    Hi lwhealon
try from Start > Run > and type to check 1 of :
    firefox -safe-mode
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode '''or'''
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
(to enable the Run box in win 7 see: [http://blogs.msdn.com/b/tims/archive/2006/09/18/windows-vista-secret-3-bringing-back-start-run.aspx enable Run box win 7] )
also check if [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls Firewall] or/and other security software blocking firefox start (like ad-blocker, web-accelerator etc).
[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application With Firefox completely closed] (probably because you can not start it), open the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory application folder] (by default, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox on Windows) rename firefox.exe to firefox1.exe, then double-click firefox1.exe. If Firefox runs without problems, it could indicate that your firewall is blocking Firefox.
    good luck

After I updated to yosemite my iMovie will not open.  I have found the folders in the applications folder for both versions 9 and 10 but neither one opens when I double click on the icon.  How do I remedy this?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • IMovie 08 does not open after 7.01 update

Anyone know why imovie doesn't open after I upgraded to the 7.0.1 update? I deleted the program and reinstalled the original and it worked fine....tried to perform the upgrade again and it would not allow me to run the program. The icon in the doc would bounce then go still. Once when I was trying to reinstall the software, it told me to shut down the appication, however one was not running, not even in the force quit screen. Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my G5 and iMovie 08. The star just jumps about 30 secs in the dock but nothing happens and indeed if I look at Activity Monitor it says that iMovie is using 99.70 % of the CPU while the program won't even launch...any ideas ? I've tried deleting the iMovie plist files and have taken off "Little Snitcfh 1.2.4" from my log in items (but not deleted the whole prgram).

  • Linked Projects Not Opening

Some background first... I am working in Captivate 2
developing an elearning tool for my company. This tool will be
delivered through the SCORM 1.2 LMS system our company uses. I am
new to Captivate and have spent 4 weeks on this project.
I have nothing to do with the LMS administration, I am only
developing the tool in Captivate, then I will submit the SWF file
    to our LMS administrator.
Well, I am remote so I have been developing these projects
and uploading the SWF file to the Adobe Connect Enterprise Server
in order to provide a link for my end users, so they may review and
submit changes back to me. It has all worked flawlessly and after 4
weeks I am done developing getting ready to record audio and have
run into a snag. Up until now I have been sending them the project
in TWO Parts (TWO Captivate Projects). Lets say Part I and Part II.
I have set the Project End preferences to open Part II in the
Curent window, so the user is just redirected. When I publish the
project to open the Part II SWF file, Part I runs, but Part two
will not open? I have tried everything I can think of, and I get
redirected back to Adobe Connect Enterpise saying file not found.
Then I tried linking the Part II HTML file (instead of the
SWF zip file) and it does work, but that is only because it is on
my computer and the HTML defaults to my harddrive. When I upload
the file to Adobe Connect enterprise and run the URL, Part II still
will not come up, but no errors, it does not even look to try to
open something. I also tried to include all of the Part II zipped
files in with the Part I files, by zipping them together and
uploading in to Adobe Connect Enterpise that way, and that did not
work. What do I need to do? How do I make sure the output file has
all that it needs to get the content to open as it is set up?
    Mel

I'm not sure how to resolve the problem.
The reason for the issue, however, may be that when you make
    a Captivate
    file SCORM compliant, it makes assumptions about the file;
    such as when
it ends, it's complete and may send that status to the LMS.
Even if that doesn't occur, if you have scored interactions
    in the
lesson, I'm not sure how the second file's interactions will
    coexist
with the first. There's a chance, I think, that the second
    file's
interactions will overwrite the interaction results and score
    of the
    first file.
In short, I don't think what you're trying to do is a good
    idea (if even
possible) with the SCORM requirements you have and
    Captivate's fairly
limited customizing capabilities (you can't tell the first
    file to 'be
    aware' of the second file).
So barring any other solutions (which there may be?), I'd
    stick with
delivering one file for each lesson - which is a better
    approach IMO
anyway, using the LMS as the 'menu'. Or, if you must deliver
    them
together, I think you'll need to invest time into integrating
    them into
an overall 'shell' program that can gather the two lessons
    scores and
send them cumulatively to the LMS, as well as negate any
    'finish' LMS
command the first file may send and any 'initialize' command
    the second
    file would send.

  • IMovie won't open after downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard

Okay iMovie 08' and 11' both worked absoloutly fine on my MacBook Pro (17" Core 2 Duo 2009 model) when I had Snow Leopard installed.
I then upgraded to Lion and iMovie 11' still worked fine but Lion had a lot of bugs so I decided to wipe and install Snow Leopard again. I then used the Migration Assistant to move my Apps from a Time Machine backup to my Mac. Everything worked okay except Java was broken. Everytime I launched a Java application it would say Java 1.5 not found. I managed to fix this with a lot of Googling.
But now I've come across another issue. I noticed that iWeb, iPhoto and iMovie will not open. The icons bounce in the dock and then they finish bouncing and it appears to have loaded, the top menubar says the application name and I can click on File, Edit from the top menu and all the normal options are presented to me. But the main interface of these programs simply does not open. I managed to fix iPhoto by reading online about removing a folder called ProKit.Framework in my Library and that worked for iPhoto perfectly it now comes up and loads like normal. But iWeb and iMovie still do not load. I don't really care about iWeb but I do care about iMovie not working as I use that all the time.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
    So far what I've tried:
    1. Remove all traces of anything iLife releated on my Hard Disk including pkg receipts, cache files, .pref files and so on
    2. Tried just reinstalling the entire iLife suite several times
    3. Tried installing Quicktime 7 from the Snow Leopard Optional Installs DVD
    4. Tried changing colour profiles on my Display (I read this worked for someone else, did nothing for me)
    5. Made a new user account on my Mac and tried to run iMovie from that account, same result it 'runs' but the interface doesn't show up.
Thanks for any help you can provide

I just thought I'd reply to say that I just fixed this by deleting the following folder and afterwards running software update.
    iLifeMediaBrowser in /Library/Application Support
It would appear that if you erase this folder and then reinstall iLife it does something that brings this folder back or recreates it. But if you run Software update after erasing it, it downloads this folder from Apple (about 2.5MB) and that fixes the problem completely.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • IPhoto and iMovie will not open with Mountain Lion upgrade.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion OS 10.8, my iPhoto and iMovie will not open. I am using a newly purchased MB Air. I re-installed iPhoto from the App Store after trashing my previously installed iPhoto application. IPhoto Library Manager was downloaded as recommended on Apple Support but also will not open. I also tried to trach the iPhoto plist as recommended by a community member.  Each application (iPhoto and iMovie) bounces above the dock and message received that application unexpectedly closed. Thank you for any recommendations.

Organizer will not open after I tried backing up photos on an external hard drive on Mac. Editor opens, but will not launch Organizer. Have tried clearing the catalogs, but nothing works. This was first reported 10 days ago. Had to be out of the country for a week - without photoshop working-- and now I'm back with the same problem. Can someone please help, or do I dump this and try to get some help just reloading the program?

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?
