Imovie project window still image freeze

Imovie '09 issue with project window freeze unresolved. skimmer continues to scan project in project window but still images remains frozen in window pane. audio unaffected. any ideas out there?

I seem to have a similar problem. When green screening some footage in a project the application does not update on the screen. You can still skim, but none of the buttons work. Restarting does not solve it, neither does copying the files to a different machine.
Looks like a bug to me. Any ideas if it is being looked at?

  • How to bring back project to iMovie project window?

I created a project and want to edit more later days. Meanwhile I moved the project file to another hard drive to make more space on the original hard drive.
When I open iMovoe the title of file is showing, but no content. How can I bring the project back to iMovie project window?

First, move the Project back to the Movies/iMovie Projects folder on your Mac. In other words, move it back where it was to begin with.
You should now see it in iMovie and be able to edit it, unless the Event folders were moved as well. If they were moved, move them back to Movies/iMovie Events.
Now, you can move them back to the external drive and have them still work, but you need to do this from within iMovie.
Your external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). FAT 32 or NTFS drives will not work.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. Your external drive should show up in the Project Library and in the Event Library in iMovie.
To move the Project back to the external drive, hold down the Command key while dragging the icon for the project to the icon for the external drive in the Project Library.
If you want to move the Events as well, you can right click on the Project (which is now on the external drive and select Consolidate Media...

  • IMovie - Project Window Is BLANK!!!

I'm on a deadline for work to finish this movie and all of the sudden the IMovie Project Window went blank and the thumbanils for my video, transitions, etc... are GONE!
    What do I do?
I hope someone replies to this asap
    thanks!

Go to the Finder—Movies—iMovie Projects. If it's there, you're OK. If not, I hope you have Time Machine.
If you know the name of the Project, try Spotlight.
If you find it, try opening it using QuickTime rather than iMovie. Control/Click the file and choose "Show package contents" and use QT under "Open with".

  • Problems with exporting project incorporating still images

I'm using iMovie 11 with Snow Leopard in my iMac. I've made a movie incorporating nonHD footage and requiring 4:3 aspect ratio. The project also includes still pictures that introduce the old movie footage itself. I find I can get better overall quality exporting the completed project as a QuickTime movie rather than sending it directly to iDVD or using the "Export movie..." option. However, when I export as a Quick Time movie, although the old movie footage itself shows up exactly the way it should, the aspect ratio of the still pictures preceding the old movie footage has changed. When I use the "Find Info" option I notice the dimensions for the Quick Time movie are shown as 480 x 720 while the dimensions for the version I shared using "Export movie..." option are 480 x 640. I'm imagining this has something to do with the changed aspect ratio of the still photographs, although I should say that the movie that follows the introduction using the still pictures appears identical in both options. I would like to retain the quality of the "Export as Quick Time movie..." option while retaining the proper aspect ratio of the still pictures. When I run the project in the project browser, the still imagery looks fine; it's only when it's exported as a Quick Time movie that the aspect ration changes. Thank you.

What you might want to try is to set the cropping attribute in iMovie for those pictures to the 'Fit' option. To do that on a single image, click on the gear icon in the Project Browser for that picture and choose 'Cropping, Ken Burns and Rotation'. In the Preview window there's 3 buttons that allow you to set how the pictures are displayed. Fit|Crop|Ken Burns. in order to maintain the aspect ratio of the videos versus the pictures set the button to 'Fit' and see if it looks different in the final output to QuickTime. Fit will add black bars to the sides or top of the image to match the aspect ratio of the whole video. The other option, Crop, will cut off the sides or tops as needed to fill the whole video frame with the picture (no black spacer bars necessary).
Double-check your iMovie Project settings under the File Menu > Project Properties and make sure your aspect ratio is reflected there properly. Also make sure your QuickTime export settings indicate a frame size that is in the 4:3 ratio (as opposed to the 720x480 closer to 3:2).

  • Final Cut won't import imovie projects with stills

Final Cut is importing iMOvie projects that just consist ov video clips, but some of my iMovie projecys have been complied form stills (jpeg and png files) that have been imprted into iMovie.
It seems to me that stills are treated differently to video in iMovie, the images are imported directly into a project, not the event folder, but in FCP images are imported (and viewable) into the event the same as video clips.
Is this the reason that FCP crashes when I try to import these projects I wonder?
(I can post a crashlog if it helps)

This is happening for me also. Will import simple iMovie projects, but crashes every single time with a more complex iMovie file; it may be the inclusion of stills. I am using the 30-day Trial version.

  • Using effects on still images freezing the app

New install of PP on a newly formatted MacPro running 10.8.2. When applying motion/scale effects to still images (6MB avg.) the app hangs up, beachballing. Project is not harmed after force quit - Adobe support can't figure this out.......have run diagnostics on hardware - nothing wrong, only running Premiere with assets on internal HD. Graphics card - AMD radeon HD 6770, 1024 MB
    Ideas?

but when I write the dvd (using dvd studio pro) the pans and zooms aren't smooth they tend to have little shocks every know and then, its as if they start then they can't handle the frame rate and skip a few frames.
anybody any idea about this? and how to make sure it doesn't do that anymore
Assuming the movie is free of problems before the DVD (which it may not be based on your last post) the problem you describe can be caused by too high a bit rate in the encoding.
Try encoding at a lower rate and see if that helps. In no cases should it go over 7 mbps.
Also, still images are problematic. If you are having a flickering (strobing) effect as they move, try these things (In increasing order of image degradation):
    - field order>none - you don't need fields with still images initially
    - reduce whites to 90% - this reduces overly bright areas
    - (in Photoshop) motion blur>vertical>1-2 pixels - this blurs vertically only
    - (in FCP) Gaussian blur> 1-2 pixels - this blurs both horizontally as well as vertically
    - deinterlace - this throws away half the image and is generally not appropriate on scanned images
The flickering is a result of very thin horizontal elements/elements that exist on one scanline. As the alternate fields play the one element is essentially being turned on/off. The basic strategy is to get the element to exist over two scanlines so it is refreshed every time the field plays.
    good luck.

  • Can you add audio from a movie to an imovie video of still images?

Does anyone know how I can add a sound clip from a movie to a video created in imovie?

The easiest way to separate the Video & Audio is to drag the muxed file to the Timeline. The exact position does not matter, but I'd choose a place where you can see the Clip that you will wish the "borrowed" Audio to go with - your "target" Clip. Once on the Timeline, Alt-click the Audio, to unlink it and then drag to an empty Audio Track near your desired target. Alt-click on the remaining Video of your source Clip and delete it.
Now, you do similar, should your "target" Clip have its own Audio, that you will want replaced. Alt-click on that Audio and delete it. Now, I'd turn off Snap and align the "borrowed" Audio to the "target" Video Clip. Once you have it where you want it, turn Snap back on.
The secret is the Alt-click to separate the Audio and the Video. Make sure to use this, especially if you want to delete one stream, as they are still linked. They're muxed, after all. I find this keystroke combo easier than using the Link/Unlink.
Last, if your "borrowed" Audio will fit into the area on the Audio Track, where you deleted the "target" Clip's Audio, you can then just drag your "borrowed" Audio to that Audio Track, or you can leave it where it is. The choice is yours and is just a housekeeping task anyway.
As I do a lot of Track specific work with the Audio Mixer, it is not uncommon for me to have similar looking Audio on different Tracks. With Audio Mixer, you apply Track Keyframes and Effects to the entire Track and not to the Clip. If one does nothing but Clip Effects and Keyframing, this will not matter.
    Good luck,

  • Can I make text look projected onto still image in Motion?

I'm working on a title sequence and was wanting to make the text appear as if it had been projected onto the side of a mountain.
Is this possible in Motion 3.0?
    Thanks.

yes. you'll probably want to distort it shape, tilt the angle and change its blending type to overlay or add.

  • I can't find a completed iMovie project

I completed an iMovie Project containing stills, vids and soundtrack. When attempting to convert it to an mp4 file via 'Share' menu, I was told I had insufficient memory to 'Share' and suggested I close iMovie and re-open it. When I did so, my completed Project no longer appears in my Project Library.
I note the icon for this Project still appears in my iMovie Projects Library folder on my hard drive but will no longer open in iMovie.
    What to do?

Use the Devices and Printers to manually add the IIIP, make to to select the Windows Update in Add Printer set-up screen.

  • I lost an iMovie project.

I wrote this as a response to another entry with a similar problem, and started with an answer from someone else. (Geoff?)
I have the same problem, namely my only project disappeared after I finalized it. It contained still images, videos (both .avi and .mov), and voiceovers, and was about 44 minutes in length. I have iMovie 9.0.9. Before finalizing, I had shown it several times using both Apple TV and Chromecast. I was very happy with it, but wanted to make a DVD. I do not have iDVD, and according to Apple and the community, I cannot get it, so I thought I could finalize it and drag the file to a flash drive and take it to an older Mac with iDVD to burn a DVD. After finalizing and dragging it, it is now gone! And it is very incomplete on the flash drive.
Using your suggestions above, I found a folder called "proxies". In it were voiceover files that I could open right there using quicktime. It also had many cryptically named folders with names ending in Eavi and Emov. I assumed they were the movie clips I had used in my project. Inside each of these were different numbers of data files. I could not open those folders or files, but after trying, I could not get back to the "proxies" list.
In preparing this memo, I tried to reproduce my "journey" through the guts of my Mac, and now I cannot find the "shared items folder" in the "new event" folder!
I probably should have been more careful, and instead of dragging the project, should have tried to copy it to the flash drive. Why it is incomplete, I do not know, unless I inadvertantly disrupted the transfer.
I sure would like to recover this project. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi great2ode,
My understanding is that when a project is finalized using the menu option "File > Finalize Project", all the exported files are saved in the project file. To access them, in Finder navigate to your User folder Movies/iMovie Projects. Locate your project then right-click (or control-click) on it. From the pop-up menu select Show Package Contents. Inside that folder you will find the exported movies in the Movies folder.
The movies will have a generic name (such as, medium.m4v, large.m4v or 720p.mov and so on). You can copy (or move) the files to another location and rename them if desired. They can also be opened in iDVD from iDVD's Media Browser > Movies panel. The best option is to copy the files, leaving the originals in the package contents folder for possible later use elsewhere (such as in iTunes or uploading to YouTube or Vimeo etc.).
    John
NOTE: After finalizing, or simply exporting from the Share menu item, the iMovie project should still be listed in the Project Library. If it has disappeared from the Library, hopefully it is still in the iMovie Projects folder in the Finder - and all exported files are in place in the project's package contents folder. Finalizing creates a movie in all sizes (resolutions) supported by your project.

  • Still images turn to black backgrounds in the exported movie

I am still using Premiere 2.0. I produced a ca. 25 min project with still images at the beginning and at the end and short videoclips in between. Still images are only ca. 40-50 kB large. When working on it I occasionally got a few problems (e.g. an audio transition across two clips was making Premiere hanging up) but I could easily get around them and successfully preview the project and export it to a folder and directly to a DVD. However, when viewing the movie on TV I found out that almost all (BUT NOT ALL!) the still images had turned into black backgrounds. I have exported the movie as MPEG, more still images were fine but not all of them. I have tried to drastically reduce the number of still images (max 5) but nome of them were fine. I do not have any error message and this problem is driving me crazy! Does anyone have a brilliant idea?
Last year I bought the new version of Premiere (3.0 I believe, surely not 7.0) but I stopped using it after one week because there was no way to successfully export the project I was working on. I made several videos, always got problems but so far I always found a solution on Premiere forum. Hope this time too!
    Many thanks for the attention

Try sizing your photos to 1000x750 pixels in size.
Also, right-click on each photo on the timeline and select Field Options and check the Flicker Removal box.
These will give you the best quality.
I am also concerned, however, that you are having technical problems and, especially, that you can not use a newer version of the program.
I'd recommend you install the latest version of Quicktime and the newest RealTek drivers, as we recommend in our FAQ.

  • Applying effect to multiple still images

Hello, i am using adobe premiere pro cs3 and i'm currently working on a project using still images to create a movie.
The problem is that i have more than 600 images, all of them which need scaling. It's too late for me to resize them before importing, because my friend started working on the project and i'm currently completing the rest, so i'm already halfway through the project.
I've saved the effect as a preset, but i was wondering if i could apply it to all the stills at the same time? because applying it to every still image at a time is very frustrating. any help ? thanks in advance.

Ann's suggestion will work. Based on your looking for a preset, I think we are all assuming they are the same size, and you are applying the same resize to them.
    > It's too late for me to resize them before importing,
I hear you, but is it really too late? By the time you sort it out, you could create an action in Photoshop and resize them all. Probably save on render time too.

  • Lost an iMovie Project-how can I find it

My first time using iMovie.  I had completed an iMovie project and it was sitting in Edit Projects.  I chose "Finalize Project" and after that was completed I can't find the project.  I had burned a CD of the movie before it ws finalized-it shows up as iDVD but don't know if I can re-convert that to iMovie.  I ultimately want to save the movie in Dropbox to share.  It's some frustrating.  Hope someone can help-much appreciated.

  • Imovie project not opening in imovie

    Help anyone?
My son has been editing a video of his grandfather, who died last year.  Sadly we have either exported or copied this video and now it does not appear in the imovie Project Library.  However the file is in the imovie Projects folder, but we cannot open it from there.  The icon in imovie projects shows an image, which is hopeful, but doesn't show a file size, which is worrying.
Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution?
Am using Imac 10.6 with imovie version 9.0.4
    Many thanks
    Susannah

If you click the Project Library in the upper left corner, it should go to Edit Project. There you should find it.
You said it was in your Projects folder. Check to see if your clips are in the Events folder. Hopefully, nothing was deleted.

  • Trouble sharing iMovie project. Up to 50+ hours left, is something wrong?

I've been trying to export this project to a DVD for weeks and I don't know what else to do. I went out and bought more ram so now my computer has 4GB and the imovie project is still taking forever. The hours keep increasing, now it says over 50, but the Activity Monitor says iMovie isn't responding. Do I shut it down or keep waiting days for it to finish? Is something wrong with it? Please help, I've been trying to finish this project for weeks and I don't know what to do. I'm trying to patient but since the AM says it isn't responding I wonder if I'm just wasting time.

I would suggest making your movie into a series of shorter movies. Try to keep them to 20 minutes or less, but you might get one slightly longer if you need it. An hour and 26 minutes is very long for iMovie. If you really need a movie that long, I would suggest Final Cut Pro X.
To make your movie shorter, go to the Project Library View and select your movie so that it is highlighted. Then click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name, like "Wedding - Reception". Then delete everything except the reception scenes.  You can repeat this process for your other short movies. Be sure to keep your original long movie intact, and only work on the duplicates. If you ever decide to get Final Cut Pro X, you can import this project and do the whole thing.
    Congratulations on your wedding.
