Imovie project wont open/publish

Ive used imovie for a while, and its been fine. But i just opened a project, closed it, then opened imovie again, but i now cant open the project, when i click on it the picture shows its corrupted? What can i do?
i then renamed the project, and it opened, but did not play, so i tried exporting it. when exporting, it stopped and read an error message
Unable to prepare project for publishing
This project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (-2009)
I then tried it again, and instead of (-2009) coming up, it was (-50)
Does anyone know what this means? Its urgent !

I have a similar experience with the same error message -50.
HOw do we get HELP!?

  • IMovie '08 Wont Open Properly

Hi Ever Since I Installed Leopard My Version Of iMovie '08 Wont Open Properly In The Dock Is Says It Is Open And On The Bar At The Top It Says iMovie '08 But No Window Opens And I Cant Make A New Project Or Anything. I Have Also Reinstalled It As Well And Still the Same Problem.
Does Any One Have Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Actually after some digging around in the Apple Message Boards I found the problem. I went to system preferences, selected, displays, then chose "color" and pick any new profile. I chose the "srgb...." profile, then exited system prefs. When I opened iMovie... tada! it worked. Strange fix, but OK.

  • I recently installed older version of Imovie and final cut pro free trial now imovie 11 wont open what do I do?

I recently installed older version of Imovie and final cut pro free trial now imovie 11 wont open what do I do?

Do you mean that the old version of iMovie (which version?) worked until you installed the FCP trial?
Note that you can only transfer projects from the latest version of iMovie (10) to FCP 10.1

  • Imovie HD wont open

Imovie hd wont open. Tries to open then crashes. All other ilife apps work. Deleted the preferences, reinstalled, installed the updater, ran nortons, still no luck. Any idea what else I can try?

    Hi michael,
    welcome to this forum
.. uuuh, you said the bad word... no, TWO bad words: "reinstalled" is one of them, you don't run windows anymore, but a much more elaborated system, UNIX, which doesn't like (and need) reinstall, or as some say "resinstallation doesn't solve, it generates problems!"
but, the biggest mistake: you run Norton!
that is an absolutely NoGo on a UNIX machine!
A Mac, out of the box, contains much more then 20.000 files (and MacOsX makes two dozends visible...) - Norton's renommee is way below subzero with some Mac afficionados... you have a very high chance that it distroys completely the file structure of MacOsX.... :-/
you can try the suggestions made in this MacWorld article...
if you don't have any other appointments this weekend, I would suggest a complete clean install (reformat drive) of MacOsX... simply drop installer disc into Mac, wait half an hour..., don't forget to save your docs onto some external drive...

  • Project wont open

I started an idvd project a few days ago and just tried to reopen it and finish it up. I click on the project which has been saved on my dektop. the idvdicon bounces into the main launch pad but the project wont open. i closed it and reopened  then it just played the music but no edit window, i couldnt see the project. I treid again, i even restarted my macbook pro, and reopened the project, couldnt see or hear the project once lost... whats going on? what do i do? i need to finish this by tomorrow..... ug

    Hi
Have no real hope for the old DVD project but would in Your situation start by
    • Trashing iDVD pref file
and hope that it will help
    Else
I would start iDVD - but keep alt-key down during up-start - Then Select to do a Brand New iDVD Project.
The old project might got corrupted - and if so it's lost as far as I understands it
    AND !
    • FREE SPACE ON Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - HOW MUCH is there ?
I never go less than 25GB - when using interlaced SD-Video material
I guess that 4-5 times more will be safe if HD-material is used
Free space on other external hard disks - OF NO interest at all - the space must be on Boot one.

  • Project wont open anymore

    Hey you all,
I want to add some changes to one of my projects in Imovie. But the project I'm working on wont open anymore in the library. I can play it, but I can't click the button 'change project' anymore. And it's only the case of this one particular project. Have I locked something? How do I undo this?
    Cheers for helping!

Your processor speed and RAM? How much disk space is left?
Have you tried deleting the Motion file?

  • Can iMovie projects be opened in Final Cut Pro?

I've been searching all over the internet and the forums here and I cannot find an answer to this question. I know that at one time, iMovie projects could be opened by Final Cut Pro. Is this still the case? If not, does anyone know what versions are compatible with each other?
I'm asking because I may be starting a documentary project soon where the director has already done some preliminary editing in iMovie (that's all she knows how to use). I'll need to transfer the project somehow into FCP to edit the project, and I just want to know how big of a headache this will be.
Any help on the subject would be majorly appreciated!

You can definitely use iMovie 08 to do a preliminary rough cut, then move the project into FCpro, and you don't need FCExpress to do it. Check out this tutorial (costs about $8) for more details, (altho most of the show is devoted to how to use iMovie):
iMovie Rough Cutting for Final Cut Pro
    http://www.rippletraining.com/imovierough_cutting_for_final_cutpro.html
    The blurb says:
"As a video professional you may think iMovie is only a tool for creating home movies, but it can be so much more! In this tutorial, we'll show you how anyone with a Mac and iMovie can generate frame-accurate cut lists that can be imported into Final Cut Pro. You'll even learn how to use iMovie in less than 7 minutes, which speaks to the incredible user-friendliness of the application.
This tutorial is available through iTunes.
In this tutorial you will learn how to:
    Defining the Problem
    iMovie Jumpstart
    Importing Footage into iMovie
    Changing the Number of Thumbnails
    Skimming a Filmstrip
    Naming a Project
Making Selections in the Events Browser
    Adding Selections to a Project
    Non-Linear Editing in iMovie
    Trimming a Shot
    Using the E Shortcut
Sharing the Project with Final Cut Pro
Importing the XML File into FCP
XML Dialogue - What it Means
    Reconnecting to Media"
I've always used iMovie (HD and earlier) for rough cutting and initial importing, then switched to FC (first Express, then Studio 2) for color correction, titles, animation, and video layers. It was a bit of a hassle before iMovie 08; had to dig into the hidden files in the iMovie project to find the actual clips, or save out a dv version. Now you simply need the Final Cut XML file and access to the original clips.
I have noticed that I need to check the "Use flattened audio from thumbnail movies" box in the iMovie sharing dialog, or else the audio needs to be rendered in FC, which, oddly, the tutorial above doesn't mention, or do. It may be that I need to do that because I use iMovie to import the footage in the first place, while the tutorial assumes you've got the clips already on a drive somewhere, and that you're working with files that other folks created elsewhere.
I also check the Reconnect to Media files box in the FC import XML dialog, which the tutorial doesn't do (they reconnect to the media files manually after the XML import; they're visible inside the iMovie project when you use FC's Reconnect Media command). But since I imported the files on the same computer that I edit on, I simply check the box.
According to David Pogue's Missing Manual for iMovie 08, you can also export out a QuickTime file using Apple Intermediate Codec, and then open this file in "any Apple video editing software," such as iMovie HD, and presumably FC. But that means a huge file, and duplicating the media. If you choose this route, be sure to check the size settings in the QUICKTIME export settings dialog, and set the audio to 48000k.
    HTH!

  • Project wont open, External drive gone

    A series of terrible problems:
I have been working on an imovie project that froze this evening. I force quite, and when I reopened iMovie, my project didnt show up. I saw it on the external drive it was on, but it wouldnt open no matter what I did. I copied it to the main drive, burned it onto a disc, but it wouldnt open. For some reason I thought mayb the external drive was corrupted so I ran DISKWARRIOR. It found several errors and I rebuilt the directory. But now, for some reason, after Diskwarrior is done, the drive is now called "untitled" and has only a folder called "rescued items". All my folders are gone. What is going ON!

I figured out the problem. As you assume, Tom, the "Other" folder causes no problem. Rather, SuperDuper! had for some reason changed the drive permissions. While it made it "read and write" for "System" and "wheel," it made the drive "read only" for "everyone." I changed it to "read and write" for "everyone" and now it loads as before.
I feel obligated to say, for anyone who reads this, that since this was a problem with disk permissions, I don't think FCPX is really to blame.
The frustration expressed above is certainly warranted, but it is warranted, not in regards to this particular problem, bu rather by FCPX being so inadequate with media management in general, expecially its being unable to reconnect media manually or change the media connections to different files (such as if you make a color-graded version of a source file and want to switch timeline connections to it). My inference that this problem was connected to the program's inadequacies in this regard was mistaken. However, it was not really an unwarranted inference!
Thank you for your prompt and knowledgeable help, Tom!

  • IMovie Project Not Opening After Attempts to Zip File

    Hi all,
I am trying to clear some space from my external hard drive, and I have an iMovie project that is approximately 8 GB of space. I would like to back up the entire project file itself in case I need to edit it in the future, but I can't do that since it is larger than the ~4.4 GB size DVD-R discs. My idea was to create a zip file, and then split the zip file into smaller parts using the program Split & Concat.
I created a zip file of the project, and it appeared to work. I unzipped the file in a new directory (on my desktop, as opposed to the LaCie drive), and the file appeared to extract with no problems.
However, when I attempted to open it in iMovie, nothing happened. It was as if I hadn't done anything. I then tried to open the original project (on my LaCie drive), and encountered the same problem. The file size is still listed as just under 8 GB in both cases, and I have no idea what the problem could be.
My second iMovie project file on my LaCie (in the same directory as the file in question) opens just fine. Any thoughts? All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

If you click the Project Library in the upper left corner, it should go to Edit Project. There you should find it.
You said it was in your Projects folder. Check to see if your clips are in the Events folder. Hopefully, nothing was deleted.

  • Emailed iMovie project not opening.

I recently made an iMovie project and emailed it to myself. But when i tried to open it on another computer, it just sent me right back to my email. I have no idea what is going on so....please help asap for this is a school project.

The iMovie project file references the clips in the associated Event (or Events). The clips are not actually copied to the project. That's why projects have a relatively small file size (and you were able to email it). The project file keeps track of all your edits, together with added music and photos, among other things.
So, you need to have all the media together in one location if you wish to edit your project on another computer. You will need an external hard drive for this, formatted as Max OS Extended (Journaled).
This excellent User Tip by AppleMan1958 describes how to move Events and Project to an external disk, and how to Consolidate media so that a project can be edited on another computer:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4141
It's essential that all the moves/copies are done from within iMovie - NOT from the Finder.
    John
EDIT: Sorry, just noticed that you had posted this question on 12 March (not sure how i came across it). Hope it's not too late! Otherwise, I trust that you got it all working OK and were able to complete your school project on time.

  • Imovie project not opening in imovie

    Help anyone?
My son has been editing a video of his grandfather, who died last year.  Sadly we have either exported or copied this video and now it does not appear in the imovie Project Library.  However the file is in the imovie Projects folder, but we cannot open it from there.  The icon in imovie projects shows an image, which is hopeful, but doesn't show a file size, which is worrying.
Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution?
Am using Imac 10.6 with imovie version 9.0.4
    Many thanks
    Susannah

If you click the Project Library in the upper left corner, it should go to Edit Project. There you should find it.
You said it was in your Projects folder. Check to see if your clips are in the Events folder. Hopefully, nothing was deleted.

  • Once I finish an iMovie project and I publish it to various destinations (Dropbox iTunes YouTube etc) do I need to keep the original raw video on my MacBook or can I archive it to an external hard drive.

I have now finished 3 iMovie projects and have learned how to prepare them for sharing through various media like Dropbox, iDVD YouTube iTunes etc. but I now have produced a huge number of related files which are filling up my hard drive to the point that I can't import any further raw video until I archive or delete many of these files.
What files do I need to keep on my MacBook in order to be able to keep these various shared locations functioning, and what should I delete or archive?

iMovie works best with uncompressed audio. If your track is MP3 or AAC, you may get better results by converting your track to the AIFF format and then using that in iMovie.
You can do this in iTunes. Go to iTunes/Preferences and click the General button. On the General page, click the Import Settings button. Choose IMPORT USING: AIFF ENCODER.
(note: remember what you changed it from so you can change it back later, before you import another CD)
Now, in iTunes, select your track. Then click FILE/CREATE NEW VERSION/AIFF VERSION.

  • FCP PROJECT WONT OPEN DUE TO BORIS TITLE PLUG IN

Not sure if anyone else has had this but have been working on a project in the fcp 7.0.1 for 4 weeks now with no trouble at all and have just tried to open it. It will not open at all and keep coming up with an error log with the following title: FINAL CUT PRO UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT WHILE USING THE TITLE CRAWL PLUG-IN
Any ideas as i am scratching my head over this one.
    thanks
    simon

    Simon,
I have also been suffering from crashes and shut-downs attributed to Boris FX plug-ins.
Someone far more experienced in FCP suggested that I download and run a 'preference manager': http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
There may well be other products out there ... however, I did just that and deleted my prefs ... so far (fingers crossed) things seem to be OK.
