IMovie Projects Media Folder at Root Level Only?

Is it possible to put the iMovie Projects folder (containing the media) inside of another folder? I have no problem saving it to a different drive, or partition from within iMovie, but if I try to put it into a folder that I keep all of my media, it losses connection to it. I assume there must be a way to do it, because it's possible for it to be contained inside of the User/Movies Folder.

You can use a symlink to point to a project folder anywhere.

  • I have multiple libraries on an external drive. Somehow all the iTunes library files i.e. iTunes Library.itl, xml, itdb, Media folder, etc disappeared! Only the music files remain. Now when I start iTunes w/option it can't find any of the old libraries!

Help! I 'm using an old G4 powerbook, Mac OSX 10.5.8, iTunes ver 10. I have multiple iTunes libraries on an external drive. Everything was fine for a while, then all of the iTunes library files, i.e. iTunes Library.itl, xml, itdb, artwork folder, Media folder, etc mysteriously disappeared! Only the music files remain (thank god) So now when I start iTunes w/option key to choose a library, I can't choose any of them because iTunes won't recognize them. Because all the library stuff is missing. So can I re-create the library files? (I don't care if I lose my ratings)
Or should I create a new empty library on the external drive, then manually move all the music files to the Media folder in the new library?
I tried some stupid ideas like creating a new library just to start iTunes, then going into prefs and advanced, then under iTunes Media folder location, selecting the location of the old library on the external, to see if iTunes would then find all the music which is still there, but no workee.
I'm out of ideas, and I searched the archives.
    Help! anyone?
    Scott

I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected
    it is.
is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air?
    i wouldn't - at least not until i
    mount the external
point iTunes media folder location back to the external via preferences > advanced
consolidate my library via file > library > organize library
The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know.
in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

  • IMovie wants to save iMovie Events at root level of local harddisk

I work on a network user. When I want to import movies from my camera iMovie wants to save the clips at /iMovie Events.localized. How can I change the destination folder.
When I start iMovie only the iMovie Projects folder is created. The iMovie Events folder is not created. I tried to delete the preferences for iMovie7 in ~/Library/Preferences but no success. iMovie still wants to store all clips at root directory. When I create the iMovie Events folder at root level and grant access to it, the import works.
Any suggestions how to get rid of that?
    Thanx in advance
    Gerhard

If you're copying a movie file directly from a camcorder to place it on your hard disc (..as distinct from "importing" from the camera into iMovie..) then iMovie may recognise the locally-stored file as a camcorder's material only if it's in the root directory.
HOWEVER, you can tell iMovie to put its imported iMovie Events folder wherever you want: I keep mine on a separate internal hard disc (..we-ell, a couple of fast hard discs combined as a 'RAID'..) on my G5 PowerMac.
The iMovie program itself is in 'Applications' on the startup hard disc, the iPhoto Library (..for importing stills..) is on a second internal hard disc, and the iMovie Events folder is on the RAID disc.
That way, the Mac can import video without affecting the main hard disc, and any 'housekeeping' or indexing which the system wants to do on that disc.
Normally, iMovie will put your iMovie Events folder in the 'Movies' folder of your own User identity. How did I get mine on my RAID drive..? It's so long ago that I don't remember.. But I think that I just dragged it there from its original place, and when iMovie later said that it couldn't find it, it also asked where to look, and I just pointed it to the RAID drive. Runs OK for me.

  • Convert iMovie project for Media Player?

I need to send my iMovie project to some Windows users who only have Media Player. How do I convert my file? I cannot use MobileMe or YouTube as ultimately, the movie will need to be added to a company newsletter.

I should have said this is my first iMovie project. I am only seeing size options when I select Export Movie. I do see an option export as an mpeg when I select Export Using Quicktime. Also .avi. I'm on my work network on a different computer, so I'll see what happens when I send those formats to my work email.
I went to the ffmpeg site, but how to download the application was not clear to me. Honestly, I'm not a tech expert and all of the explanations about the package, upgrades, patches, etc. were foreign to me.

  • HELP!! Half of my files from my media folder won't open!!

I've been using iMovie for years and have never seen this before.
I created a large project some time ago, and only about 50% of the files from the projects media folder will open. They show up in he media folder as the little black Unix executable file icons rather that the regular white clip icon.
I've tried importing from within iMovie and get error message -2002, and the message that Quicktime can not parse the file. I've also tried opening the .mov file from the original project folder but no good.
I REALLY need to salvage these files, any assistance would be much appreciated. I'm using iMovie HD in 10.3.9.

  • Recent media folder/subfolder behavior

I've just noticed that iTunes is placing media files differently in my media folder (on a NAS drive) than it used to. It's hard to say when it started, but things I imported before the holidays seem to be ok.
First, imported music is no longer put in the Music folder—artist and album subfolders are created, but they are put at the "root" of the media folder instead (same level as the Music folder).
Second, movie files used to be put each in a subfolder under Movies whose folder name was the movie title (e.g. Movies > 300 > 300.m4v), but now, imported files are put directly in the Movie folder (e.g., Movies > 300.m4v).
The strangest thing I've noticed is that after watching something I imported years ago (a Louis CK special) on my Apple TV v2, the m4v file is now up where new imports are, and its old subfolder is gone.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? I've restarted iTunes, my Mac, and the NAS, with no change. Thanks in advance.

  • I can't find a completed iMovie project

I completed an iMovie Project containing stills, vids and soundtrack. When attempting to convert it to an mp4 file via 'Share' menu, I was told I had insufficient memory to 'Share' and suggested I close iMovie and re-open it. When I did so, my completed Project no longer appears in my Project Library.
I note the icon for this Project still appears in my iMovie Projects Library folder on my hard drive but will no longer open in iMovie.
    What to do?

Use the Devices and Printers to manually add the IIIP, make to to select the Windows Update in Add Printer set-up screen.

  • How to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD?

    Hello there,
I need urgent help for a project.
I want to adjust the format of an iMovie project in iDVD so that not only the TV safe area but the whole clip appears on the TV screen. Is there anybody able to help me?
And is it possible to add chapters, either in iMovie or in IDVD?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Later.

  • After renaming and moving to my desktop an iMovie project, i can not open it. I moved it back to iMovie but still it is not working. I noticed that there is not an Event Folder for the project. Can someone help me?

I renamed an iMovie project, then I moved it out of iMovie to my desktop. It did not work from there. Finally I managed to move it back to iMovie, but still does not work. I can't edit it, it does not even appear as an option. I found out that the Event Folder for this Project is gone. Is this the problem? Is there a way I can get it back? Can somenone help me?? Obviously after so many mistakes you can tell I am new on this. Any help will be appreciated it!!!!!

OK Let's take a step back.
If you imported video clips from a camcorder there would be an Events folder in the Movies/iMovie Events/ folder.
You have the option as you import from a camcorder to send your Event to an external drive instead. In this case, it would be in the iMovie Events folder at the top level of the external drive.
If your project has no video clips, but only photos, there may be no events folder, only links to iPhoto.
Similarly, if your camera imported your video clips to iPhoto, and you used the iPhoto event in iMovie, then your clips are in iPhoto, and there is no separate iMovie event.

What do you mean by raw footage when you say "I went to go find it and the raw footage is in imovie, but the project is GONE." Can you open your working movie in IMovie Edit Project window? Does it show to the left of the file name in the Project library or Share/Media Browser drop-down box that it has processed the movie?
my processed movies are listed in the iMovie Projects folder as Movies/iMovie Projects.localized. Using this file, the drag and drop worked for me so I was able to burn the movie on iDVD. However, shared iMovie projects are still not recognized by iDVD. An old project has disappeared and the new one does not appear in iDVD in the Media pane as it should. I checked the preferences, and directed it to look in the iMovies Project folder. I am currently sharing with iTunes and when I open IDVD the medium shared movie is there as should be. Hummm. Why not the large shared movies showing in IDVD?
You probably have tried several things already but: open your "more info" box for the movie file if you can, and there the extension shows .rcproject and make sure you are checked to open with iMovie.
Check your iDVD preferences. Make sure it is looking in the right place for your movie files. It automatically checks in "Movie" folder but you can also ADD by directing it to your iMovie Project file specifically. You could go into your Home Library and dump your preferences then reopen IMovie and see if it helps (don't trash your preference until you reopen IMovie and see it is working okay) but this did nothing to help me.
In iMovie, try removing your movie from Media Browser  and reprocessing it. You might send it to iTunes and see if it shows correctly there.
I will keep at this as there appears to be a bug with the processing of large movies and IDVD recognizing them as previously. It is just not finding shared movies.

  • How do i play my imovie project after sharing to media browser

I created an imovie project and clicked the share menu then clicked media browser.  I do not have iDVD because it didn't come with my mac. The movie is no longer under my project library and it is only under the movies folder, but it won't play at all.

You need to get a Mac. Then you need your RCPROJECT file as well as any Events or Photos that were referenced in the Movie. The RCPROJECT file is a hexadecimal file that contains the paths to the Event video clips with In and Out points, Titles, transitions, paths to music, paths to photos, etc. If you want to play it on a PC, you need to use the SHARE menu in iMovie. Share it as an h.264 file or as an MP4.
To play on a PC, get QuickTime for Windows (which is free) and play it there as is.

  • Folder names opt at root level

May I safely delete a folder named opt, which has suddenly appeared in the root level of my drive?
I know it is required by some open source applications (VPNs, for example), but I don't recall installing any software that placed it there.
None of my hidden folders (etc, tmp, var) is visible, so I presume that OS X does not require it.
    ... or does it?

You are correct, OS X does not require that software, only some third party software. It's perfectly safe to delete it.

  • Searching for a folder in document library doesn't work properly if the folder is at the root level.

    Hi,
I have a folder named FS0 on my sharepoint 2013 site. The folder is the first level folder under
Default Document library (Shared Documents). When I search for FS0 on the sharepoint site, the search result give a link to home.aspx and not the folder. If I search for any folder that is a second level folder in the library, I get a search result that takes
me inside the folder on clicking it. In my case, I search for a folder named FS1 which directly under FS0. The search result takes me inside FS1 in this case. How can I make the search result display proper links for root level folders also?<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks
    Pranava

    Hi Pranava,
I couldn't reproduce this issue, when I create root folder FS0 in "Shared Documents" and start a full crawl, I click the FS0 link from search results page, it will open the FS0 folder as well as folder under FS0.
Please right-click the FS0 name hyperlink (e.g. mine is http://sp/Shared%20Documents/FS0) and paste in IE browser see if it could be accessed successfully.
Also test if other Shared Documents have this issue in other site collection or web applications, if not, run a full crawl may do a trick (please reset search index if only full crawl still doesn't work).
    Thanks

  • Moved iTunes Media folder, now iMovie can't find it

I moved my iTunes media folder in order to share it between two users on the same iMac, following these instructions:
