IMovie records no sound

Hello everyone, I'm having an extremely annoying problem with iMovie' 11. I did 5 sucessful voice over records on a .mov video. I did not touch ANY SETTING. When I recorded the sixth, played the clip and absolutely no sound had been recorded. I tried again several times, and same thing: clip sound goes down, but no voice plays. I opened another project and tested the voice over option, it works. If anyone knows a solution for this problem, I would be VERY thankful.

I think this is working as designed.
I can hear when I import from my DV camera, but the sound is coming from the DV camera, not the MAC.

  • Recording The Sound/Audio

When I use iMovie 09 to make a video it doesn't record the sound and i know for a fact the built in microphone works. What do I need to do to enable it to record the sound again while I'm recording my videos?

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • IMovie exports only sound to camera

    Good evening everybody!
In the past I successfully exported projects to my camera.
For the first time I got this problem: iMovie exports the sound, but freezes the first frame of the movie and leaves it at that.
I tried it in two ways: by "send to camera" and by "show video on camera monitor" and simply pushing the "record" button of the camera.
When I loaded a different movie and did exactly the same thing, all went well.
Back to my new film: the same again.
What's different with my new film?
Has anybody got an idea? I'd appreciate any help!

    Hello Sir Torsten,
Glad you got it to work. I really think that Apple never intended for us to make long complex movies...I think they though iMovie would be a fun app to make short little entertaining movies so they didn't carefully investigate all the nuances before releasing it.
For the most part, iMovie has worked great for most people. Just reading these discussions you can get some idea of the various projects that are being created and it is really remarkable from such a simple program. And, the other fantastic thing to remember is that so many of the problems we encounter DO have solutions or work-arounds!
BTW, it is now cooler and wetter here, too

  • Cannot record ingame sound with glc (-git)

I have a problem with recording ingame sound with some games with glc (well, glc-git). glc says, it can record sound from games, if they use alsa (or sdl and forcing sdl to use alsa). As long as I don't use pulseaudio, this shouldn't be a problem. But for some games, I can't get the sound recording to work. The 2 at the moment are:
    FTL
    Amnesia: The Dark Descent
I usually get a message like this:
    [ 1.46s alsa_hook error ] 0xa8a8170: unsupported audio format 0x0e
    [ 1.46s alsa_hook error ] 0xa8a8170: can't extract hardware configuration: Operation not supported (95)
I can record the game, but not the audio. If someone can help or test it, if it works for him, that might be nice. Or if someone knows a workaround or so. Or if someone can confirm, that there is no audio recording for those 2 games (but I actually don't wanna hear it... :-) ).
Also there are plenty of games, I got the audio recording to work with. You can see it in my youtube-channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/ChemBroTronNo1

doorknob60 wrote:Do you use 64 bit? I don't have a copy of Amnesia downloaded right now, but if Amnesia is a 32 bit binary game, and you use 64 bit, you need to make sure you have the proper 32 bit libraries. lib32-glc will probably be enough.
That's not the issue, the problem is that some games are firing 32-bit float audio (0x0e type as indicated in the error) into ALSA through whatever means, and the standard GLC only supports 16, 24 and 32bit signed int audio. My fork above adds very rudimentary support for float.

  • Why would iSight "disconnect" from the computer during iMovie recording?

I was just in the middle of recording a song, got to around 7 minutes when all of a sudden the iMovie recording panel went to blank with a big red sign saying "NO CAMERA CONNECTED". When I went back to the little drop down menu to record and selected "iSight built in" it allowed me to record again.
What could cause this? I am running very low on disk space ATM, somewhere in the region of 200MB left until I transfer all my recordings from today onto my external, could that have something to do with it? Maybe not enough virtual memory space left to run the camera?
Although in fairness I have 2GB of RAM and nothing else is running except one window in Safari (with only text) and a youtube window in Firefox...
Anyone know? And is there any way to prevent this from happening? I assumed since iSight is built in it couldn't "disconnect" from the machine, and in the middle of filming? Seems very odd...

Insufficient disk free space can certainly give trouble:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/HD/en/im37.html
With only 200MB left, you definitely need to free up some space-think 10s of gigabytes free if possible:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1968.html
If you need still more space, some of the ideas from the 10.6 Help version of this file be helpful:

    is it possibe?
    if so how ?

It is no different thing than Flash or Flex apart from the libraries/Classes which will help you interact with the Native OS.
Few additional features AIR will provide are
    File handling,
    Database connectivity,
Native OS API's like accessing Clipboard,
    Native dragging,

Adobe AIR classes are listed with the AIR icon. in the list. You can read more about adobe AIR on Adobe's site

  • For guitar, vocals, keyboard/drumpad controller, what is the best audio interface to use/record quality sound in Logic, Mainstage, Garageband, etc. (lowbudget)?

So many to choose from. im really just trying to record clean sounding electric guitar tracks now vocals in the future and keyboard/drumpad controller near future..(irrelevant but thought i should mention im in the market for a keyboard and drumpad controller combo hopefully will be usb or something) but i need a quality audio interface to use with Logic Pro 9 and all the stuff that comes with it (mainstage, etc) and also Garageband. I have heard so many different reviews about this or that but all in all i dont think i can afford an apogee except maybe the apogee One but it at 249 or whatever i feel like i could get alot more bang for my buck. Ive heard alot of good things about m-audio gear but i heard mixed reviews as well. If someone can just tell me what is the best interface in the 100-200$ range for the needs ive listed above...Any responses or advice greatly apprecitated.
    Thanks

    hi mm
there are so many different sound cards out there these days it seems - ill just say that one that i got alot of use out of was the tascam 122 (http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-122.html)
it has 2 decent phantom powered XLR inputs, some midi stuff, a place to plug a guitar into and some nice big knobs.
the next level would be something with more ins (8 or 10) and probably firewire, and also around $400 i think.
oh, and your computer should be more than sufficient to handle what you want to do.

I don't see anyplace in the program where you are actually saving a file to disk. You have the output of SI Read being filtered and graphed and also back out to the sound card, but that's it. The only Snd Write Wave File function is outside the loop and will only write an existing file to a new location.

  • [Solved] ffmpeg records no sound

I use the following string to record a video with ffmpeg:
    ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -acodec pcm_s16le -vcodec libx264 -preset ultrafast -threads 8 output.mkv
I only have alsa, no PulseAudio or OSS stuff.
I've been trying everything I managed to find through google but nothing seems to work. General sound output works, I can listen to music and do all my stuff like I'm used to, I just can't get ffmpeg to record my sound.

    I'm using the latest ffmpeg-git with x264-git. (I compiled it correctly, so I don't think it's a build issue.)
I tried using -i default, -i sysdefault and -i plughw:0,0 instead of -i hw:0,0. I also tried various hw:0,1 etc. combinations, because I was fustrated and didn't know how to continue. I also tried recording only the sound, without the video, but nothing works at all.
Only the video runs perfectly fine. Please help.

Recording sound directly while playing something works with the following .asoundrc script:
    pcm.!default
    type file
    slave.pcm
    type plug
    slave.pcm
    type hw
    card 0
    device 0
    subdevice -1
    file /dev/shm/audio.raw
    format raw
I then convert the raw file with ffmpeg from RAM. This is extremely annoying though, because the audio file isn't synced to the video. But IT WORKS. I want a solution with ffmpeg though, I have gathered more information, if somebody is interested:

Is there any way to add Item 'IEC958 Default PCM' to numid=28,iface=MIXER,name='Input Source'? I tried recording from 'Line' but it doesn't work.
Am I doing something wrong? I'm still digging mad for a solution, and only the .asoundrc script works this far.

  • Imovie Recorded with effects....

Ok, so I was tasked with recording 2 90 minute presentations. Simple job, one camera plugged into my laptop with a firewire cable and iMovie set to import. Worked great for the first presentation. File looks good, no problems. A few hours later, same camera same settings and iMovie recorded to the disk the video with effects being added on a rotating basis, pixelated, shaking, sepia ect ect rotating around every 10 minutes or so. I saw it while it was happening but figured it was just doing that to the video I could see and not the files...
As you can guess, it recorded that to the file so when I play it back it plays with the rotating effects. Am I doomed or is there any way to get those off? I really need to salvage the whole presentation....
I assume I'm doomed but thought I'd ask
    Robert

It can't possibly be the same settings.
Did you on the second occation start a "Magic Movie" instead of a "New Project".
Did you set the camera to a sort of "Demo" mode?
Did you record to tape at the same time? Is the tape OK?

  • Little Help Recording INternal Sounds

See I Just Recently Crossed over to Mac from sshh a (PC)... Well, I used to use a program called Cool Edit to assist me for my Radio show that I run. Now the benifit of CoolEdit that I can Not seem to Get with GargeBand is... RECORDING INTERNAL SOUNDS... like I can record with the built in mic, but I want to Record The sounds Made on my CPU and the CPU Only... EG... If I want a SoundBite from an FINISHED BURNED CD... I WOULD JUST hit record and be able to Record it. I dont want the Mic to Pic up anything OUTSIDE I just want it to Record the noise that goes on in the CPU.... If any one can Help I would Appreciate it...
