Imovie reduced quality of project while finalizing

I recently created my first movie in imovie.  It was 40 minutes long all shot in  1080 p.  When I went to finalize the project it began at 1080 p, after 4 hours it changed to 780 p and after 6 hours it was down to meduim moive.  Anyone know why this happened?

  • Mavericks' iMovie won't export project to Final Cut Pro

Upon updating to Mavericks and its accompanying versions of iLife, I do not see where the option in iMovie to open a project in Final Cut Pro X is.
Likewise, attempting to import an iMovie project from Final Cut only creates a blank project with the iMovie project name and then crashes Final Cut Pro.
Is there any way to regain this feature?

If you are on iMovie 10.0.2, use FILE/SEND MOVIE TO FINAL CUT PRO. If you are not on 10.0.2, let us know what you are on.
This sends the iMovie to FCPX 10.1. If you are not on FCPX 10.1, it will not work.
I recently tried this with one of my iMovie 10 projects and it all worked perfectly. Nothing changed in Final Cut Pro X (unlike when using the previous method with iMovie '11). All clips, titles, transitions, audio tracks, edit points and so forth were intact. I was then able to add further embellishments in FCP X. It's a delight using FCP X, given its flexibility and greatly expanded feature set compared to iMovie 10.

  • Importing imovie project into Final Cut Pro

Hello I need help getting my HD imovie project into final cut pro. I recored the project in 24p and it's already imported into imovie. What is the best way to get it into Final Cut Pro so that I can edit it further without sacrificing the quality.
Another problem is that I have heard that imovie compresses the video and totally ruins the quality. Is this true? And is this reversible in any way? I have already recorded over all the clips for this project on my camcorder. How screwed am I?
    -Michael

First thing to do is find your original clips that you captured in IMovie. I don't have much experience in IMovie, but see if you can select a clip and control click and choose reveal in finder. If that works, open one of these clips in quicktime player and hit command-i and let us know the format of the clip.
Kind of doubt you'll be able to actually import your project into fcp, but you should be able to recreate it in fcp without too much difficulty.
Let us know what camera you shot and captured from. That may be of some help.
Hopefully someone with more experience in IMovie will speak up, but hopefully this will get us started.

  • Does anyone know why- when I iport a one minute video project into Final Cut X from I Movie the resolution that looked alright in IMovie full screen becomes worst in final cut, full screen...but clear when it is in still position?

Does anyone know why- when I import a one minute video project into Final Cut X from I Movie the resolution that looked alright full screen in I Movie instantly becomes worst on full screen in Final Cut X...but clear again when I stop it to still position?

I'm new to video editing but I think I recall seeing an option in FCPX which lets you choose the video quality for the preview window. I think the window reduces the quality when playing back for performance reasons and so perhaps that is why it seems to have less quality when moved over to FCPX? Just a possibility, I'm sure one of the more experienced users can confirm or deny this theory.

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?

  • How do i import imovie project into final cut pro

I movie 08 is seriously lacking titles and transitions, so I want to spruce up my project in final cut pro, but I do not know how to get the project into final cut pro
    thanks for your help

    YES!
Apple seems to be talking down to users with much of the workflow and nomenclature in the iLife Apps - it's almost insulting.
But I'm as old as the hills too - grumping has become one of my favorite pass times.
    And while I'm at it:
I still can't figure out why there is a "GO" item in the menu of OSX. WTH is THAT ? And why can't users change it's contents? Very PC. It would be more tolerable if we could use it like the OLD Apple Menu back in OS9. The Dock is cute GUI eye candy but I'd like the option of "docking" items in a menu too.
I'll shut up now before I get in trouble...

  • Change iMovie project while Burning in iDVD?

I use iMovie to import and process football game clips from our games and scout games. I change some clips, add titles, etc., and then ship it to iDVD for making the .img file. This process works really well.
My question is once I start the .img burning process, can I close the source iMovie project and import a new set of clips (game) into a new project without harming the iDVD burn process?
I'm very hesitant to do this as I'm not sure of the relationship between the iMovie project and iDVD when burning the DVD/.img file. I don't want to harm the iDVD processes by going to another project. Yes, I know that I can probably recover quickly, but this is normally a time driven process done in the wee hours the morning after the football games. I don't want to have to recover and start anything over at that time of night.
My suspicion is that they are independent and I can import a second project while burning the first.
    Thanks

    ... I guess I got a bit dramatic there...
that is the question... (besides the actual "what is showtime?" in about 30min???)
I think, this is a typical Karl Petersen question..
    my knowledge stops at:
iDVD uses the .imovie file as a reference, to collect all items needed for conversion; the conversion itself is a step-by-step process (menu, audio, video...); if you now change anything WHILE encoding... e.g. change the ref.mov by editing the project, or, better, delete something (a music file)… then?!
that is a vry tricky process, a kind of "collaboration" as programmers would call it...- I'm no programmer, I'm a user: when finished, I quit iM, launch iDVD, tell my Cube "nitynight" and next morning (450MHz here), my .img is ready to burn on my disk....

  • Imove keeps crashing while finalizing

my imovie keeps crashing while finalizing.  I have done all the softward updates and still cannot finish a project

    Cullen,
Sounds like you might have two separate issues.  First if MAX crashes a lot, I would recommend that you try to repair the installation of the drivers you have installed on your computer, as well as MAX.  This can be done pretty easily by going to Add or Remove Programs then selecting National Instruments Software and clicking Change.  This should bring up another window where you can select the different programs to repair.  Hopefully once you have done this you will no longer have problems with MAX crashing.
After looking around a bit for more information about using the LeCroy 454, I found that it is recommended to install the IVI drivers for this instrument to communicate using TCP/IP.  These drivers use the LeCroy VISA to communicate, and may explain why you are unable to get MAX to recognize the driver and why it crashes.  I would recommend trying to install the IVI driver for this instrument and see if you can get it working after that.  The IVI drivers are maintained by LeCroy and can be found at the following website.

    Hope this information helps!

  • Can you go on Facebook while IMovie is sharing your project to Facebook?

So I'm always sharing my videos to Facebook, and I always have to wait. But that's what I'm asking...can you go on Facebook while IMovie is sharing your project to Facebook?
also, go check my youtube channel here:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/randomlaughtercrew/videos
    lol thanks

Of course. Why wouldn't you be able to? All you're doing is waiting on iMovie. Facebook isn't doing anything.

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

    Hi
Most processes in Non destructive Video editing is based on that the raw-material is safe and intact. So by trashing it most things can or will go wrong.
So e.g. in iMovie project - there is NO Movie - just a small text document refering to Your raw-material, audio files and photos (within or not in iPhoto Library) on how they are to act together to Play Your Movie.
And by changing any of them the Movie project will be affected or destroyed.
reg. iDVD there is also a link back to iMovie - Most famous to set of the iDVD BUG !
To do that - one starts a new iDVD project and add movies etc. Then find something i one movie in need to be adjusted. Closing iDVD and returning to iMovie and doing this. Then when back to iDVD it will notice and ask You to Up-date or Cancel. Neither works. The iDVD project is harmed. All Chapters now point to Chapter One and more strange things happens.
the medicine I use - I start a brand new iDVD Project and re-do it and hopefully not fine any more to be fixed in the movie.
This indicates the strong link inbetween iDVD and iMovie and I would not touch anything in iMovie till DVD is Burned and Ready AND Plays Well !

  • Import project from iMovie 10.0.1 in the Final Cat Pro X 10.0.9

How can I import a project from iMovie 10.0.1 in the Final Cat Pro X 10.0.9?
If the file before the project was in the ' Movies ' folder, now there is no such file. There's only ' Library iMove ', but no file that can be moved in the Final Cat Pro.

Thanks for your confirmation!  It seems to me this is the situation after tons of research.....
I really don't understand Apple's logic/philosophy now.... in the new iMovie... it takes out the keywords which is extremely important to anyone with many clips.  I don't mind to pay for the expensive FCPX but I am told that FCPX cannot migrate the iMovie library..... sigh....... what **** they are thinking....
BTW, it seems the "Send project to Final Cut Pro" function doesn't support sending even the "Event". It supports only sending project with the clips associated with the project.  There is no way to send the clip without associated to project.  Anyone can confirm it?

  • Can I migrate an iMovie project to final cut pro and keep the edits intact?

can I migrate an iMovie project to final cut pro and keep the edits intact? It may be a solution to my apparently corrupted iMovie

    The manual tells ..
    http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.1/?lang=en#ver41812c7c
keep in mind: just the 'plain cuts', not the eye-candy iMovie offers, wil be transfered.
    unfortunately it says ...:
You initiate the process from within iMovie. The project file and the media used in the project are copied to your Final Cut Pro library.
For more information, see iMovie Help.
so, if your iM doesn't work anymore, you can not transfer.
plus, my personal opinion!, I would start from scratch in FCPx...
What issues in iM do you expect FCPX to solve,...?
