IMovie refuses to import an archive after I stopped the first attempt!

Greetings,
I imported an archive to iMovie, and in the middle of the import, accidentally stopped the process.
I figured I would start from scratch, so I deleted the clips that had been imported and started again.
Now, however, iMovie thinks it already has the first clips (even though they're in the trash), and refuses to import them anew.
I still have the original footage in the camera and tried to import from that - NADA!
There is no longer an "import all" option available when I point iMovie to this source material. And if I select the fist clips and tell it to import, it just keeps going back to the later clips it thinks I want.
How do I tell iMovie to import all my footage?
I threw out preferences and caches - still, no joy.
Thanks!

I would try emptying the trash.

• IMovie refuses to import Audio MPEG-4 Apple

iMovie refuses to import Audio MPEG-4 Apple files, made with the help of Quick TimePlayer. I had no such a problem even several days before. Recently I upgraded iMovie to 10.0.7.
Is there any way to resolve the problem?

When the import is set to auto I get that same behavior of the infinite loop of trying to import and then rewinding.
A correction to what I wrote before is that it was the top timer that was incrementing not the bottom timer, so that too is the same as what you reported.
Now, uplugging the firewire cable is not working for me.
I'm a new Mac user. I was fed up with buggy windows and windows apps after being a user for 20 years. I made the leap and I'm pretty disappointed. The macpro hardware however is very nice.
I read elsewhere that if you want to capture DV (not HDV) from your
HDV tape you have to do the following in the camera:
1. With firewire disconnected
a. not be in easy mode
b. set "standard set/VCR HDV/DV" to DV (this causes iMovie to set itself into DV mode)
c. set "standard set/i.link conv" to ON (converts HDV to DV on the way out)
2. Connect firewire
3. Run iMovie. iMovie import runs and correctly sees it's receiving DV not HDV
4. At this point the camera is configured as if there were a DV tape not an HDV tape inserted so the camera will not work right unless you now go back to "standard set/VCR HDV/DV" and set it to HDV.
5. Now, if you want to go back to capturing HDV, you have to change the camera settings back, disconnect & reconnect the firewire, and you must exit and re-run iMovie.
This is pretty rediculous, but it works. However none of this seems to affect the capture problem we are having.

• Can I allow two attempts and after the first attempt have a new window open to a url?

I would like to allow the user two attempts to answer a question. However, after the first attempt, if they get it wrong, I would like a new window to open that takes them to a tutorial Web site we have, where they can find the answer. Then I would like them to be able to close that window and return to the question for the second attempt?
Is this possible?
Right now, I have designed a very clunky version of this. I have one question slide with one attempt and if they answer wrong, they go to the next slide, which has a button to the tutorial page. Then the same question slide is repeated, again with one attempt. In this same scenario, if the person got the question right the first time, they moved on to a new question slide. This works, but is bad for scoring and eliminates the possibility of using question pools and putting questions in random order.
Thanks,
Carrie

100 feet would normally not be a problem......if the AirPorts have line-of-sight with each other......but if there are obstructions like walls, ceilings or furniture in the direct signal path between the AirPorts, little if any of the signal will even reach the extending AirPort.
Try locating the extending AirPort at about 50-60 feet away to see if can pick up a stronger signal to extend.
It would be much better if you connect the AirPorts using an Ethernet cable, as there is no signal loss in an Ethernet cable up to 300+ feet.

• Superfluous names appear after I type the first letter of a person's name in the address bar of my text message program. How do I delete them. They freqiuently are people I never text, but had a text encounter with i the past.

Superfluous names appear after I type the first letter of a person's name in the text message address bar. Most of these names are people I rarely if ever have contact with, but may have once or twice. They are not in my contact list. How may I get rid of them?

They will also be listed in 'Previous Recipients' in Mail. You should also delete them there.

Hi everybody, adobe muse does not start at the first attempt after installation. know the reason and possible solution? (on iMac 27 retina - latest edition)

Hi
Are you still experiencing the issue or is it fixed now?

• IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

• After firefox loads, the first web pulled in takes 4-5 minutes, then all the rest of the webs work normally. It doesn't matter what web i pull in first. I have norton360.

After Firefox loads the home page (google), the first web site I click in my bookmarks takes 4-6 minutes to come in. Clicking on screen makes it go half-tone until it loads. From then on, all other bookmarks come in fast. It doesn't matter what bookmark I load first, it always takes major minutes. I am using Norton 360 and have even disabled the security and web checking and it made no difference.

Okay, here's what I found out. Followed the above instructions...no joy. I think this maybe needs to be posted in a general OS forum, as I'm thinking this is more about that vs just being about iPhoto/iTunes. Here's what I tried and learned.
A new account allowed iPhoto to open up immediately. However, iTunes seemed a touch slow...not sure if that is just due to it being a new account. So, I deleted that account and moved on to the preferences instructions above.
I removed all preferences and placed them in a "preferences A" folder on the desktop. Launched iPhoto and got the exact same results. Super slow...took forever to open. Took forever to close. Same with iTunes.
So I placed all of the removed preferences back into the folder and decided to start launching and closing apps to see what's affected, what's not. Here are the findings.
iPhoto - The worst of all. Takes 4 minutes to open.
Mail - Opens fine, closes very slowly...apprx 1 minute
Calculator - This now opens incredibly slowly. Also noticed that the blue light below a launching app in the dock that seems to radiate was not radiating immediately....just sort of sat there. About a minutes passes, then it radiates for a second and calculator opens. Quitting is instant
Garageband - Launching is slooooow, quitting is instant.
Lightroom 3 - quitting is slow....quit results in upper-left menu items flashing once, then beach ball for about 30 seconds.
These apps check out perfectly fine with no problems launching or quitting: iCal, Safari, Firefox, Aperture, Photoshop (CS3), Illustrator (CS3), InDesign (CS3), Acrobat, Suitcase, Image Capture, Disk Utility, Text Edit, Photo booth, Final Cut Pro.
So I'm at a loss. This may be more of an OS issue, but figured I'd post here to follow up on the suggestions given. I think I'll pose a question in the OS forums. I'm thinking this might mean boxing up the iMac and making a trip to the genius bar. It's incredibly frustrating.

• Is there any way to disable "Checking Your Add-ons" window that comes when user starts Firefox after update for the first time?

we have over 1500 firefox users and its very confusing to them if after update they start their Firefox and this "Checking Your Add-ons" window comes.
It would be much appreciated if it can somehow skipped this or do it silently.

Unfortunately this link does not help.
We currently have 3.6.x versions of Firefox in most computers, and if i do a silent install via sccm to version 12, then if user starts the new firefox for the first time, it checks addons, like java quick starter and browsing protection (f-secure) etc. Second time when they start firefox, it starts normally.
My question is - is there some way to avoid this first run addon compability checking?
I've tried numerous preferences in mozilla.cfg, nothing helps so far.

• How do i stop firefox from auto suggesting my email adress after i type the first letter

after the first letter typed it comes up with lots of suggestions even ones i've typed by mistake and i would like to clear these

You can very quickly eliminate the mistyped entries with the down cursor key and use of "Del" key on the selected item ("Shift+Del" on a Mac). So you would just have the ones you want. You do not need to type the first letter you can double-click within the entry box to see all items whether to use or to delete.
That does not answer what you asked. If you only want to suppress that, I don't think that would be possible with Firefox alone, but I also would not think that you would want to suppress all autoform entry because of that.

• IMovie refuses to import from JVC DV cam

I am a new Mac user, eager to get started with the iLife apps, but I have a problem so far.
Using iMovie '08 on my new MacBook Pro 2.2, I can't import. It rewinds, starts playing, plays audio and video on the cam, but just shows a blue screen on the mac in iMovie and stops almost immediately after starting. It's almost like it is getting video but rejecting it for some reason! If I select manual mode, it'll play all day on the camcorder, but still just show a blue screen and not record on the mac.
I've tried two different FireWire cables, including one I've used before on two different PCs. I'm definitely hooking up the cables right (having done it before with other machines) and have the camcorder set up the same as before too. It's old so doesn't have many options anyway...
Specifics:
The camcorder is a JVC GR-DVF21, 2000 vintage but working fine. DV, using MiniDV tapes on SP mode.
System Profiler shows "Unknown Device": Manufacturer: 0x8088, Model: Unknown, GUID: 0x8088000148A470, Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec, Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec, Sub-units: Unknown Unit: Unit Software Version: 0x10001 Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
iMovie '08 recognizes it as "(DV)" and successfully rewinds and plays the tape but immediately stops playback once it starts. iMovie '06 HD does the same.
Should I be worried that System Profiler has it as an Unknown Device?
Is it possible that this camcorder is sending some unsupported video type even though it's a DV cam?
Thanks!

ped xing,
so did the Free recdv work for you ? I found an unorthodox method of getting iMovie to work by doing a bit of Camera Settings Manipulation. I'll include below. It works for me every time with both iMovie HD & iMovie 08.
1. Turn Camcorder On In VCR (Tape) Mode
2. Open iMovie
3. Switch Camcorder to Camera Mode
4. Change Camcorder Back To VCR Mode & Press Play on Camera Remote or in iMovie Immediately
Again,
Let me know if the recDV worked for you. It would be easier if I did not have to use the above Trick.
Thanks.

• Why do my newly imported photos "disappear" after I close the iphoto library?

I connect my camera or iphone and iphoto automatically opens. I click on import photos. Photos are imported successfuly. I can then crop, rotate, enhance each photo. I then close my iphoto. When I re-open iphoto my previously important photos are not there. If I reconnect my camera it will identify the photos that I just imported as new photo and will import them again. But as soon as I close iphoto they are not saved. To make this even more complecated my husbands profile allows him to upload photos. Why is this happening?

You're right the adjustments and changes are applied to the library as they are made.
Is this something that just started happening or is this a new Aperture installation?
If it has just started happening and nothing else has changed on your system then you should start with the Aperture 3:Troubleshooting Basics. I'd specifically look at doing a permission repair and library rebuild.
If this is a new installation where is your Aperture library located? Internal or external disk? If it is external make sure the disk is formatted as OS X Extended.
In either case post back with the specifics of your system.
regards

• When importing WMV files, I only get the first few seconds of my movie.

I'm trying to do some color correction on a wedding video. The video was captured using Windows movie capture software and saved as a WMV file.
The file is about 700MB and 50 minutes long. When I import the file it the Project tab says the duration is only about 25 seconds. When I preview it, still only 25 seconds will show up. It's doing this for every video of the wedding that I import.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

What version of AE and with what compression settings were they captured? Premature stream endings usually points to VBR encoding, which AE doesn't particularly like. The files from Movie Maker may also contain program-specific data such as edit markers, which also could be mis-interpreted by AE. Check such things and perhaps try differnt settings. Failing that, simply use VirtualDub and similar tools to convert to conventional AVIs or otehr suitable formats.

• Leopard dies after restarting for the first time.

If you need some background on this continuing error:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1222352&tstart=0
Crap!!! It obviously wasn't the Hard Drive, I'm back to the grey boot screen.
I've done NOTHING but restart after doing the clean install!
It's giving the following error, which I'm seeing in Verbose mode (Command+v)
Mez com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.nDNSResponder |xxx|) : posix_spawnp("usr/sbin/mDNSResponder", ...): No such file or directory
xxx = incremental value, it adds 1 each time the error cycles, which happens roughly ever 10 seconds).
I actaully remember seeing this last time I booted with Verbose mode (prior to upgrading the HD). I'm not annoyed about buying a new HD, I was going to do it anyway... but I really want Leopard to work.
Any ideas.

Not necessarily. Each operating system addresses networking slightly different and in better ways. Note for instance Leopard has added searching of network volumes over Spotlight. It might be its persistent indexing may be too much for a poorly constructed router or one that is marginal. And then many routers with out of date firmware can also crash Tiger. I've seen this happen before Leopard even existed. When you upgrade a system with multiple devices, you have to make sure they are all in sync with each other as far as meeting the same specs. If they aren't problems can arise like what you are seeing.

• How do I delete an email address from the dropdown that appears after I type the first letter of the recipiants address in the To: bar.

When I open compose and type the first letter of the recipients address in the To: bar a dropdown appears with a listing of the email addresses I have sent messages to in the past as well as addresses of my contacts list.
How do I delete an address from this dropdown?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
