IMovie "Sharing" challenge

I couldn't export my movie because "Insufficient access privileges for operation " - Any suggestions?
THANKS!
Jerram

I am also interested in this answer. After researching this answer and question, and since no one has answered it yet, here are the findings of some self conducted research that I did.
1) After deleting the movie file from my iTunes>iTunes Music>Movies folder, there was no change to the project event in iMovie nor any changes to the files in the Movies>iMovie Sharing folder.
2) Likewise, when I deleted the files in the Movies>iMovie Sharing folder, there were no changes in the iMovie project event.
3) In addition to 1 and 2 above, neither of these deletions affected my MobileMe movie publications. either. Something else to note, in both instances, iMovie still showed the movie files (both mobile and HD movie files) as published to iTunes and MobileMe.
After performing the above tests and documenting my findings, I then republished the iMovie movies to iTunes in Mobile, Medium, and Large files sizes. Here's the interesting part.... When doing this republishing I found redundant files in both the iTunes>iTunes Music>Movies folder and the Movies>iMovie Sharing folder. Furthermore, I did delete the project from iMovie and chose the option to "Delete" instead of "Unpublish and Delete" and it did not remove any files from the Hard Drive except the movie event in iMovie itself.
CONCLUSION: This is my best guess or hypothesis is that the Movies>iMovie Sharing folder is simply a backup of the movies that are published through iMovie. This does, however, create a Hard Drive space issue for those with limited storage capacity.
I would still like someone to confirm my findings and clarify why iMovie would create this additional file copy in the extra directory. It has to be for something more than just an added file backup I'm sure, but just don't know for what exactly.
Any other clarifications from anyone/everyone would be greatly appreciated.

You will get better results if you use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option and then drag the movie from the Movies pane of the Media Browser in iDVD onto the menu window.
Also I suggest you use this workflow which I learned from Bengt:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Movies iMovie Sharing iTunes surely duplicating iTunes on HDD?

I'm trying to free up space on my internal drive. In an ideal world I'd keep the really important stuff on the internal drive (as its faster and I regularly back up the internal drive).
I've successfully managed to relocate my iTunes music folder to an external drive, but in the process learnt a few things I'm now confused about.
When I 'share' an iMovie project to iTunes, it appears in my iTunes music folder. However, it also appears in Movies>>iMovie Sharing>>iTunes. Surely this is duplicating files on my internal drive? I have several long HD home movies and so my drive is filling up quickly.
    Q. Do I need to keep both versions of the files?
    Q. Is there a way to move this iMovie Sharing file to an external drive while keeping the events and projects on my internal drive without upsetting iMovie?
    Many thanks for any tips,
    Dan.

I'm still struggling with this, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Deleting movie files in iMovie Sharing - iTunes -folder

When I share a project to iTunes a movie file is created not only in Music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Movies but also in Movies>iMovie Sharing>iTunes. If I then delete a project, no movie file is deleted. In iTunes I can delete a movie file. But then the movie file in iMovie Sharing>iTunes still exists. Is it ok just to manually (using Finder) delete the movie files in iMovie Sharing>iTunes I don't need any more or is there a logic behind this behaviour I don't understand.

This is because with iTunes you have the option of copying files into the iTunes library, or leaving them where they are. iMovie doesn't have anyway to know which option you're using. All iMovie does is create the file in the "iMovie Sharing" folder then alert iTunes to import it.
Once the import is done, if you have iTunes copying content into the library, you are free to delete them from the sharing folder since they are duplicates.
BTW: You will still have yet another copy contained within the project itself which is used for iLife sharing. Sharing one movie for example, in three sizes, actually puts 9 copies of the movie on your hard drive! Three copies for each of the three sizes. It can add up quickly.

  • Can I delete movies in iMovie Sharing folder?

Hi.  I am using iMovie 11 with OS X Lion on a MacBook Pro.  When I complete a Project in iMovie, I publish it to iTunes using the Share > iTunes command from the main iMovie menu.  I have noticed that this creates two copies of the movie, one within iMovie in the Movies > iMovie Sharing > iTunes folder (let's call this location A), and the other in the iTunes > iTunes Media > Movies folder (location B).  Therefore, it seems that there are two copies of every finished movie on my computer.  Question: After publishing the movie to iTunes, can I delete the copy in location A?  Will this have any negative consequences if I later choose to edit the Project and re-publish the movie to iTunes?
The movie in location A is on my internal drive, and the movie in location B is on an external drive (where all my iTunes media content is located). I fully back up both drives to another external drive 2-3 times per week, so I do not need the movie in location A for back-up purposes.
By the way, when I sync the movie to my iPad (from iTunes) or watch it on my Apple TV (again, from iTunes), I believe iTunes is pulling the content from location B.
    Thank you

  • Calling serious MAC gurus.... Slideshow sharing challenges.

After hours of setting individual settings for each photo in a 150 photo slideshow presentation i have a great slideshow in iPhoto. Now trying to share this is proving a challenge - maybe someoone out there can help. First I have exported as a QuickTime Movie which seems even at the Large setting to give up a lot of quality compared with playing the show straight out of iphoto - so that is problem number one: How can I export this at a decent quality to a permanent movie format, without redoing the whole slide show in iMovie or IDVD which would be too time consuming and also may not have the same great individual Ken Burns effect?
Second challenge comes when i try and share the slideshow via iWeb; despite the lower quality QT Movie it is still 740MB which is just too large to put on the Website. If I export down to say 50MB then the quality is too poor. Is there some compression software that does a better job?
One way i thought i might be able to reduce the file size is to reduce each photo in the slide show from on average 3 to 4MB to say 1MB. I can do this in say Photoshop but then how to i apply my original slideshow settings, which took literally days to apply to each photo, to the new lower MB photos?

    Martin:
When the slideshow is converted to a QT movie the pixels are changed from square to rectangle for TV set playing. That is why the image quality appears to have dropped off somewhat.
It's been my experience that I get the best image quality by building the slideshow entirely in iDVD from stills. Granted I lose the Ken Burns effect but I've never been a big fan of it.
The only preprocessing you need to do for preparing for a QT slideshow conversion is to make sure the image size is in the 4:3 ratio.
Here are some older tips on image preparation from the iDVD and iMovie threads:
"Karl Peterson’s Best Method to Create a Slideshow in iDVD
Here are my requirements for a slideshow: More than 99 photos. Music matched up to individual slides throughout the show (so idvd is out for creating the slideshow).
As everyone knows, the tough part is synching the slides to the music. iMovie 4's Bookmarks feature makes that pretty convenient. Here's one approach:
    • Be sure iMovie preferences are set to "Enable Timeline snapping" and "Play snap sounds". We'll use those features later to help fit the slides to the music.
    • Import the audio first. Save.
    • Set iMovie to timeline view.
    • Next, we create a series of bookmarks that matches the beat of the music for the entire movie. As the music plays, hold down the Command key (Apple key) and press the B key wherever you think a change of slide feels appropriate. There are no rules. You want a change of slides when it "feels" right. Don't worry about adding a few too many bookmarks; you can ignore some later.
    • Play the music from start to finish, watching to see if your bookmarks still look right. If not, close the project without saving, then redo them. If they look right, Save.
    • Create the leading title, if any. Set its length to match the first bookmark.
    • Turn off Ken Burns (so stills aren't rendered into clips). Set the KB duration to something convenient to work with, like 5 seconds. Import the first image.
    • Using iMovie's nondestructive editing, drag the right end of the image to match the second bookmark. Our preferences will cause iMovie to snap the slide to the bookmark.
    • Repeat with each new slide, dragging it to match the next bookmark. Note you can import several slides together, place them in the order you want, then drag each to fit the bookmark.
    • Play the movie occasionally to see if it looks right. You want to get it right the first time for it's hard to go back.
    • After all the images have been added, everything should play with the proper synch. Now you are ready to start your real editing.
    • Where you want image animation instead of a still, swap the still image for an animated Ken Burns zoom/pan of that image. Click on a thumbnail and turn on KB. KB will default to that duration. Configure your KB zoom/pan and Apply, which converts the timeline still into a clip (if it has animation). You can edit that thumbnail as many times as you need.
    • When all the clips are done, we're ready to add transitions. Note that some transitions add new frames to a movie, which is NOT what you want. They will mess up your synch. Try Overlap, which does NOT add frames. Set the Overlap duration to whatever you want, then apply it between two slides or, if you wish, to all the selected clips.
    • If there are stills that were never converted into clips be very careful burning the DVD. Do NOT press the Create iDVD Project button. That renders the stills into very poor quality clips with lots of jaggies. Instead, manually drag the project.mov into the iDVD window.
Hope I haven't missed a step, but you get the idea. It's probably a good idea to try this first on a small project.
Karl Peterson’s Recommendations for Higher Quality Stills in iMovie
To get started, here's an overview of key factors affecting image quality. To maximize still image quality in iMovie 4.0, try this:
    1. In iMovie preferences (playback quality section) turn on both "High quality (better image)" AND "Enhanced video playback". Otherwise the movie iMovie sends to iDVD is not best quality.
    2. The minimum image size is 640x480 for NTSC (768x576 for PAL), but anything larger should be okay.
If you plan to zoom in with the Ken Burns Effect, increase the minimum size accordingly. If doing a 2x zoom in Ken Burns, double the size. If doing a 3x zoom, triple the size. (You want to avoid Ken Burns upsampling the image.)
    3. For image quality on the DVD, force the Ken Burns Effect to render your still while importing. For rendering to occur, you must configure Ken Burns to create an animated zoom or pan.
    To force rendering, do this:
    a. Turn on the Ken Burns Effect.
    b. To discard (any) previous pan, press the Start button and drag the zoom thumb all the way left, then press the Finish button and drag the zoom thumb all the way left.
    c. Click the Start button. Wait for any animation to finish. Drag the zoom thumb to 1.02. (Do not type in the box.)
    d. Click the Finish button. Drag the zoom thumb to 1.00.
    e. Drag the Duration thumb to 10 seconds. (Which may be more than you usually need, but start there.)
    f. Press the Apply button or drag the image to the timeline.
    g. After the clip is rendered, trim off the last second (or more, if it's not needed). That's where all the zoom is. What's left is a very high quality "still" clip of your image.
If you add transitions, trimming may be unnecessary. The transition may hide the zoom.
Note: after applying this settings to a clip, clicking on that clip will cause KB to adopt these settings for the next import.
    4. Set iDVD preferences to burn the DVD at best quality.
    EXPLANATION
iMovie will offer to render UNrendered stills when you click the "Create iDVD Project" button. That's when iMovie renders a very low quality clip, containing lots of jaggies. That's NOT what you want for your DVD. Instead, you want a clip rendered by the Ken Burns Effect, which has great clarity.
Note that Ken Burns does NOT render a still when:
    a. Ken Burns Effect is turned OFF; or
    b. Ken Burns Effect is turned ON but there is no animated zoom or animated pan. That's why we apply a small zoom.
Using a small zoom-out animation causes Ken Burns to put all the zoom at the end, where it can be trimmed off.
Stills rendered after clicking the "Create iDVD Project" button cannot be improved. Re-import using the method described above.
This describes a way to include an iPhoto slideshow in an iMovie HD project.
    WHY USE iPHOTO?
Photo 5 lets you easily make great slideshows. You can automatically include very high quality random Ken Burns Effects on all slides, for example, and include several nice transitions not offered by iMovie HD. You can override default slideshow settings for individual images. (You can't add titles, of course, and include multiple songs, which is why you may want to use iMovie HD too.)
    SUMMARY
The iPhoto slideshow will be exported to an MPEG-4 movie (720x480). To better prepare that movie for import into iMovie HD, it will be opened in QuickTime Player Pro and exported to a different movie format. (QuickTime Pro is required, $30 from Apple.)
If you don't have QT Pro you can import the MPEG-4 movie directly to the iMovie HD DV project, but the quality of titles and transitions won't be as good. If the background video of titles is flawed, create titles over black, which will look fine. Placing titles over nom-animated still images also helps avoid problems, so if you know which images will receive the title, turn off Ken Burns for that photo in iPhoto and increase the play time to accept the title in iMovie HD.
    MAKING THE iPHOTO SLIDESHOW
    Create a slideshow in iPhoto.
    KEN BURNS
To include a random Ken Burns Effect for all images:
    • Click the "Settings" button.
    • Turn ON "Automatic Ken Burns Effect"
(Note you can also adjust the KBE below each image.)
    TRANSITIONS
To set the default transition between slides:
    • Click on the "Settings" button
    • Choose a default transition.
(Note you can also change to a different transition below each image.)
    AUDIO
To avoid audio problems later in iMovie HD, it may be best to NOT include music in the exported slideshow. Rather, import the song to your iMovie HD project.
If you want iPhoto to export the slideshow to fit the length of a song, here's how:
    • Click the "Settings" button.
    • Turn on "Fit Slideshow to Music"
    • Click the Music button and select the song.
    • After importing the iPhoto movie to the iMovie HD project, extract the audio.
    EXPORT FROM iPHOTO
Choose Share>Export, 720x480. iPhoto will export the slideshow to an MPEG-4 movie. Except for the dimensions, there are no other export options.
    EXPORT FROM QUICKTIME PLAYER PRO
Open the MPEG-4 movie in QuickTime Player and export to a QT format better suited for iMovie HD. (QuickTime Pro is required, $30 from Apple.)
    - Choose File > Export
    - Choose "Movie from QuickTime Movie" from the popup menu.
    - Click Options. In the Movie Settings window that opens, click Settings.
    - For NTSC, choose "DVC/DVCPRO-NTSC" from the top popUp menu, set Quality to Best, set Frames per second to 29.97.
    - For PAL, "choose DVCPRO PAL" from the popUp menu, set Frames per second to 25.
    - Click OK.
    - Back in the Movie Settings window, click Size.
    - Click "Use custom size", set to 720x480 for NTSC (720x576 for PAL).
CREATE YOUR iMOVIE HD "DV" PROJECT
    • Create a new iMovie HD project of the "DV" type. (Choose the project type in the disclosure arrow at the bottom of the dialog where you name the project.)
    • Import the QuickTime Player-exported movie to the project. (Or the MPEG-4 movie from iPhoto, if you skipped the QT export.)
    • Add your music to the iMovie project. Add titles, edit the music track, etc.
    • If a DVD is your goal, now is the time to burn it. If you see problems played on a TV -- pauses or audio problems -- try exporting the iMovie HD project to a "Full Quality" movie, then drag THAT movie to the iDVD window."
As I said these are from a while ago but should still be relevant.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Imovie sharing issue

    Hi all,
I'm using OS X 10.9.4 and iMovie 10.0.4. None sharing option is working for me. I always get this:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
Tried to google for an answer but nothing.
Hope you can find it out, please.

i keep getting same error. dont know what to do

  • IDVD / iMovie shared files

i created a movie from clips in iMovie. then i made a file in iDVD and imported the finished product from iMovie, ready to burn it to a DVD. since i have very little space on my disk, i deleted the iMovie file (and emptied my trash), with the assumption that the movie was all safe in the iDVD file, and still ok to burn. but when i went back to iDVD to open it, the computer had troubles "finding the file" for both the video and the audio of my film. (i got an error pop-up that said "broken link", and told me the name of the file, which contained the word "shared".) it wouldnt play.
is this because it was a SHARED file, and one end of the sharing was deleted? can i access it? or is it permanently deleted?
    thanks.

is this because it was a SHARED file, and one end of the sharing was deleted?
    Yes
can i access it? or is it permanently deleted?
    It's probably lost

  • IMovie sharing using Entourage...

    I'm running iMovie 5.0.2 on a new G4 iBook 1.42 GHz computer.
I'm not having success "sharing" my selected video clip using entourage as my e-mail source.
Here is my step by step procedure:
Select the video clip in iMovie in the timeline.
Select "Share" from the File menu.
Select E-mail from the options at the top of the Share window.
Select Microsoft Entourage from the pull down menu.
Check the box "Share selected clips only"
    Press the "Share" button
The next window shows that the video clip is being compressed
Entourage e-mail program automatically opens with a new e-mail page.
Here is where I don't see anything in the attachment window other than a document labeled "Attachment (Playerpro document)" with a file size of 0.0k
Any suggestions as to why this is not functioning like it should?
My Entourage e-mail setting are correct for sending and receiving mail.
I have not tried the other Mac mail option since it's not my primary e-mail program.
I did try sharing the video clip via Quicktime and then attaching the video clip to the e-mail which it worked.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Jose.

Hi Jose - works perfectly for me too. The steps you take are correct.
How big was the clip you wanted to send? Too big?
Sorry, I can think of no other reason for the problem.

  • IMovie Sharing to iDVD

I'm working on a couple projects that amount to placing pictures in a project and dropping audio behind them. Once I get this all done, I preview it in iMovie, and it looks fine. I share the project to iDVD, and once everything is ready there, I preview it again. When I go to burn the project, or save as an image or VIDEO_TS folder, everything gets, for lack of a better descriptor, pixely. I've tried all three encoding settings, all with the same result. During testing, I've tried this with projects ranging from a few minutes to an hour or so. The photos are 3000 pixels by 4500 pixels or so, so resolution shouldn't be an issue. I never had this problem before Snow Leopard, so did they change something in that update? I was able to get a final project that will pass as acceptable by sharing to the media browser at the HD setting. My question is, is there a way to get the Share to iDVD option to work? Also which encoding setting in iDVD will produce the best picture?
    Thanks

I also burn movies to PAL DVD but the quality really does drop a lot from the original file. That aside, the way I do this is open iDVD then click the media icon to the right of the window. This will access audio, photos and movies (make sure your original edited imovie project has been exported, as a stand-alone movie, using share/export using quicktime to the Movies folder. Don't use the share to iDVD option). You can then just drag and drop the movie file to the iDVD window, add your titles, menus and stuff, then burn to DVD, or you can save your iDVD project for later additions and editing. Also, set the iDVD preferences to PAL, burn at professional quality. The bit I don't get yet is what is the best format to share/export to using Quicktime my IMovie project. There's AIC, DVPRO, H.264 etc etc.

  • IMovie sharing to iDVD problem

I just bought the newest MBP, after having the previous one for a year. I didn't have any problems with the old MBP and iMovie/iDVD.
Today, on the new MBP, I made my first movie (28min) in iMovie and then shared it to iDVD as I always have in the past. After iMovie goes through the processing steps, iDVD pops up with the usual screen, but my iMovie isn't there, just a blank iMovie with "revolution" and music playing. I tried it again with only a couple minutes of iMovie and shared it to iDVD, and that time it worked.
    What is the problem?
    Thanks.

    A couple of thoughts:
Do you have any unusual characters in the project file name?
Did you insert a chapter marker at the very beginning of the iMovie project (iDVD does this automatically, so there may be a conflict)?
I prefer to export my movies using Share>Media Browser (select the highest available preset, or one equal to your movie size) . Some of us here find that the DVD quality is better than when using Share>iDVD. Also, the shared movie can be accessed from the project's package contents folder if needed for other purposes, such as playing through a media player. To access package contents, in Finder right-click on the project name then select "Show Package Contents" - the exported movie will be in the Movies folder (in H.264 format).
In iDVD you don't need to bother with package contents - just access the movie from iDVD's media panel (Movies tab). Drag the movie to the Theme background.
One final thought - the 28 minute movie failure may have been a one-off. Close iMovie and iDVD, relaunch iMovie and try sharing the movie again using Share>iDVD. It may work second time around (but perhaps you've already done this).

  • IMovie shared drive events - Final Cut Pro Issue

I've been trying to import my imovie events into Final Cut Pro X - couple of problems so far.
    1. My events on the mounted shared drives don't get imported
    2. When I look to save new events I only have the mac HD as the save location - doesn't show the external drive
Oddly enough on both of the above, the events show up in iMovie as events on the shared drive, and I am allowed to share new events onto the external shared drive.
Any advice on what I can do?

Hi - still have this issue - sorry but has anyone been able to get around this?

  • Flash Runtime Sharing Challenge 2008

    Hi everyone!
So I've been looking more into the "Import/Export for runtime
sharing" of flash, and have run into some frustrating behavior. The
problem I'm running into is that Flash's management of swf paths is
confusing, and there is not a lot of documentation as to how the
    engine links files together.
First some background; forgive me if it's verbose, I just
want to make sure I supply enough information for this complex
    scenario.
Basically, I'm trying to make a simple 2D fighting game like
Street Fighter, so I'll use a character... Let's say... Ryu(cause
    he's the coolest!)
I'm using external linking to try and reduce the sizes of the
swfs from the FX in the game w/o having to create a complex dummy
system. I've got most of the research completed, the final hitch
that I've encountered is how Flash CS3 handles the linkage setup.
Here's the setup I have with Ryu:
    /game/rsrc/characters/ryu/flash/Impact.fla
    /game/rsrc/characters/ryu/flash/
    Impact.swf
    /game/rsrc/fx/
    ImpactFX.fla
    /game/rsrc/fx/
    ImpactFX.swf
    /game/bin-debug/Game.swf
So ImpactFX is the VFX that will be used in all character's
animations. It's a dust cloud that appears when ryu hits the
    ground.
Ryu's Impact file references ImpactFX's library. There will
probably be others like WallImpact, etc.
    Game is the main game.
So if I have 200 Impact animations with Ryu, w/o using
runtime sharing, I have to take the size hit, roughly 200 * sizeof(
ImpactFX.swf), since the assets are burnt into each
individual Impact animation's swf. With runtime sharing, I only
    have to download
ImpactFX.swf, so I get major savings over that VFX. Right?
I've been able to get runtime sharing to work in specific
instances, but not in a general system.
So the first thing I did:
I setup the shared symbols in
ImpactFX.fla to 'Export for runtime sharing'. I used the
default symbol names, and used the URL '
    ImpactFX.swf.'
Dragged the folder that contained the shared symbols from
    ImpactFX.fla to
Impact.fla. This setup all the symbol's correctly.
Added them to my scene and ran(
Impact.swf). No dice! I got this error:
    Error opening URL
    'file:///H|/flash/game/rsrc/characters/ryu/flash/ImpactFX.swf'
    From this, I ascertained that
    Impact.swf was looking for
ImpactFX.swf in the same directory as it.
As a quick test I copied the
ImpactFX.swf to the same directory as
Impact.swf. Re-ran, and success! The swf savings are there,
but it's not ideal at all, I have to copy the swfs to the same
    directory???
From there I changed the linkage up a bit. From the library
    in
Impact.fla, I changed the Import URL to
../../../fx/ImpactFX.swf. Still success! But... Some more
weirdness here, I only changed it on one symbol, and during runtime
it worked for all symbols... Even though the other symbols still
    point to just
    ImpactFX.swf...
So this works fine when I run and test the animation from the
fla. However, when I try to run it from the
Game.swf, DISASTER! This one was even more frustrating; the
flash player doesn't seem to give the previous error message(even
though it's the same issue.) I traced this problem down before and
    found that the
Impact.swf would never return a 'loaded' event. Not cool. Of
    course, copying the
ImpactFX.swf to the appropriate path fixes this and it runs
    beautifully.
So where does that leave me? There's a way to get this to
work, but it's not pretty at all, especially for artists. The ideal
setup I would like to have the artist working is:
    1. Open the FX library fla, pin the library, and drag drop
the appropriate symbols for the animation.
    2. Save and export.
    3. Run and confirm in the fla's test frame work.
    4. Run and confirm in the game.
Unfortunately, with all the swf location copying and pathing
this adds too much complexity for an art pipeline.
So that's my dilemma. The main question I am trying to figure
out now is, what's the best pipeline solution for this scenario? I
want to be able to runtime share these files with multiple shell
programs. A solution is forming, but I don't think it's the best.
It seems like when you setup a symbol to 'export for run-time
sharing', the URL defines the path the parent importing swf uses to
find the runtime resources, which seems a little backwards...
    I tried loading
    ImpactFX.swf before
Impact.swf. That didn't work, even though they are in the
    same security sandbox.
    Other questions:
    1. Is there a way to make loading swfs throw that 'Error
    opening URL' error?
    2. Is there a way to say 'hey flash player, the file you are
looking to link is over here!'
    3. Or even better, 'hey load these runtime assets before you
load the assets that reference them!'
    4. Is this necessary? I'm assuming this is a required
savings, because if we have a lot of animations with FX, we're
going to want to cut down on our download size. Figuring out this
pipeline may also allow us to load one large library file for the
game animations, and just load that.
    5. Does the security sandbox system have anything to do with
    this.
Any thoughts or ideas? Feel free to point me towards
documentation, I haven't had much luck finding any detailed
    documentation for this topic.

    Hi Legos,
Did you ever solve this problem?  I'd like to organize my flash files similarly, but I too have had weird issues with runtime sharing.
Also, how do you debug into the imported symbol?

  • IMovie shared function could not work

Hi, I am using the latest version of imovie but I cannot upload to youtube. The Share button is not grayed out. The icons just wouldn't come out. Any idea why?

    Hi Barry,
    iMovie11, SnowLeopard 10.6.7.
    Different problem in the trailer:
The main title shows "placeholders" as if the font is missing which it is likely not; I have not messed with fonts in a year.
The placeholders resemble a box with the capital letter "A" within the box bordered by the phrase "BASIC LATIN" on top and bottom of the box and "0000" on the left and "00F7" on the right.
To attempt to repair the malfunction, I eliminated the .plist file but this rids iMovie11 of the projects themselves, so this is no solution.
I quit iMovie and restarted it but the problem persists.
The previous trailer had no font problems, nor problems of any kind. My previous movies made in iMovie11 had no problems either.
    What to do?

  • IMovie shared "using quicktime"

    Can anyone please tell me:
    1) if Macbook can make an iMovie project autoplay when put on a CD? Movies are exported "using Quicktime".
    2) A 2 minute movie usually end up being some 50MB in size. Can I reduce file size (for websites) without compromising quality?
    Thanks in advance

    1) if Macbook can make an iMovie project autoplay when put on a CD? Movies are exported "using Quicktime".
The computer platform has nothing to do with this. Depending on how the content is delivered, the media player involved, and the user settings for the media player, a file may or may not be able to play automatically.
    2) A 2 minute movie usually end up being some 50MB in size. Can I reduce file size (for websites) without compromising quality?
You have not supplied enough information to make even an educated guess. A 2-minute, 50 MB file means your average audio + video data rate is on the order of 3.0 Mbps. Since you do not mention the audio or video codecs involved or the dimensions, it is difficult to tell whether or not you could reasonable reduce the file size without degrading the visual quality. A standard definition H.264/AAC file would likely be encoded at half the file size with good to excellent quality and be compatible with most broadband connections for a website use.
