IMovie showing one thing on the project window and different one in preview

I have create an iMovie project with iMovie 08. On the project window I could see my pictures as I have imported, in the perfect order and with the correct orientation. I just installed iLife09 and I opened the project on iMovie09. The project window shows pictures in a random order, the orientation of some pictures are wrong (upside down, portrait etc). But to my surprise if I play the video or move the mouse over the pictures it shows the correct picture on the preview window.
What's wrong ?

I'm having a similar problem. Any fixes?

I had a problem with my mouse double(multiple) clicking when I didn't want it to, now pressing enter in a window like this will close the current window and open one of my Taboo sites, and the cursor keys don't work.

This happens in any text entry window, but there is no problem with Wordpad or Word or other apps, just in Firefox. It's like the keyboard mapping has gotten fouled up in Firefox, but I can't find where I might check what is going on.

I have rentals that will not go away on my ipad in the videos app, and different ones on my computer "on this ipad" list

and this is on my computer... i rented this last year.

When the app is downloaded it will expand as all app downloads do. You are downloading a "compressed installer" in a manner of speaking. When the app expands it will be larger than the space that you have left on the device.

Suddenly my project window has no scroll bars, and if I return to the project library, select my project and click edit, another project LIBRARY appears partially covering the project window. Help.

In the middle of making a movie, the scroll bars vanished in the project window and I could no longer navigate at all. If I went to the project library and selected the project, another image of the project library slid in and entered onto my screen. after repeated attempts to open the project in various ways, I have it now, but there are holes in the project window (blank background) and no scroll bars. It does not respond to anything.

I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible. When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip. ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

I can't shorten my photo clips in the project window. Why not?

I have video clips and photos in the project window and at some point each photo doubled and when I just any form of "clip adjustment" for length it does not stick. I checked the fact that I wanted each photo to only last 4 s in the movie every one of them is a different time that I can't change.

Defining Folders For Project Window And On HD

Hi, haven't seen an option in edit/preferences or forum/search or google regarding defining folders (bins) in the project-window and on the hard-disk where for example audio recordings in Premiere would be organized in ... same for movie files created within Premiere ...
is there such an option available ?

This really comes down to how a person likes to work, and the level of organization, that makes them most comfortable. There is really no right way/wrong way (within reason), but personal choices.
For the HDD folder layout, this ARTICLE goes into a bit of detail, on how I like to work - however, it is personal to me, and also takes one thing into consideration, that might not be important to you - considering migrating a Project from one computer to computer. I give up some ultimate performance, by keeping things on one HDD. If migration is not a concern, performance can be improved, by placing certain folders onto separate, physical HDD's.
For Bins, it is pretty much the same setup, for me, though the exact Bins, and number of Bins, will fluctuare, depending on my Project, and one the various Assets. I like things compartmentalized, so might have a Video Bin, with several other Bins below that. Same for Audio/Music, or for Still Images. I like to have all of one type of Asset, say Titles (from Photoshop) in one Bin, under Titles, so I can twirl closed all other Bins, but still have everything that I need, at that point in the edit, in my one open Bin. This is especially important, if I will be working on that Project (at least part of the time) on my 17" laptop, where screen real estate is extremely important.
There is no one way to do either, the HDD folder/sub-folder layout, or one's Bins. Mine is but one way, and works for me - those last two words being very important.

I tried to open a new project and everything works
...I also tried throwing Recent Files, in the past It solved the problem ,not this time ...
the problem is that this project will take me a long, long time to rebuild

This recently happened to me. I am a novice, but it seemed like that project got corrupted some how.
I deleted it.
Went to time machine and picked it up again when I knew it was working ok.
I lost a few hours of work, but not the entire project.
Once I had the project back from time machine, it worked fine (but like I said, I lost a little bit of work).

How do I get the Project Window of iMovie '11 functioning properly?

The scrubber in the Project Window runs painfully slow. It has to think about literally every movement, but if I just hit Play it will run smoothly. The scrubber in the Event Window also works fine. I had thought it was because I didn't have enough space in the Startup Disk, but I've cleared it out and nothing's changed.

If you had iMovie 9 and upgraded to Mavericks, iMovie 9 should still be in your Applications folder in a folder called imovie 9.0.9. You can still use it and your Events and projects folders should still be present.

I'm using a MacbookPro so can't right click to highlight (as was suggested in this forum for the same problem) and can't seem to highlight that area. What do I do?

When using the Clip Trimmer, you click DONE to indocate that you are finished.
The Trim To Selection is a great tool and I use it all the time, but you use it in the main project timeline, not the clip trimmer. Just select the frames you want so that the yellow border is around them. Then right-click and select Trim to Selection.

Select a range from the Project window in iMovie 10.0.3

In iMovie 10.0.3, I can no longer select a range of frames from the Project window; when I left click, the whole clip highlights yellow. I can still shorten the clip from the ends, but not select any range within the clip. What gives? Thank you.

How to understand the "New Item" icon at the bottom of the Project window

I'm trying to understand that small "New Item" box at the bottom of the project window better. I'm aware that when I bring video clips into my project, if I drag them to this box, PPCS5 will add them to the timeline. I partially understand the positive reasons for doing so, primarily that PPCS5 will correctly identify the type of video being brought into the project. I know that if I select all my clips and drag them to the new item box, that all my clips will be added to the timeline at the same time and all together on the timeline. There are many things I don't understand about it. If I add my clips one by one using the "New Item" icon, they will show up as separate sequences on the timeline. If you try to add another clip at a later time, can that clip not be added using the "New Item" box? One other question is what would be the advantage in putting clips on the timeline as separate sequences? And one further question is do you drag other items to this box besides video clips? Like music, and still images?

Dragging something to the New Item icon doesn't just add that something to a sequence. It actually creates the correct sequence for the something to be added to.
You do this once, when you need a new sequence. Anything else you want to add to that sequence you do by other means.

Imovie, i can't see my project files and events, and won't make new ones!?

When opening imovie (11) i cant see eny off my events or project files and i cant make new ones or import files. But i still se my events and project if i go to User-Film-Imovie Projects/Events...!?

I've been having problems along the lines of most of these people as I have been trying to move iMovie files from one computer to another. I then put them on a USB drive, only to find out that it wouldn't work, according to the documentation. We then bought another Firewire drive, and formatted it as forum notes indicated, HDF. It didn't work correctly for file transfer in FAT32. Then when the files were put on the new drive via command line file copying program called rsync.
I still couldn't get it to sync up on the new drive, but they were there. The answer turned out to be a few things found in much older posts, so I thought I'd post them here in case it is helpful to others.
I'm now using iMovie11, but some of these were written for 08.
*1. The files have to be in the two directories, Events and Projects. These have to be at the *top level of the hard drive*. If they are at a lower level, iMovie won't find them*. I had put them in another folder called Movies, but it can't find them there.
2. Throw out the preference file, if necessary, as noted in several of the online posts. I'm not sure if that mattered or not, but did it, as well as restarted iMovie and the newly added projects and events finally showed up.
3. Copy files to the events or project folder while holding down the command key.
It now looks like there is a little bit of an issue with the syncing of the project data and the movie, but so far, it seems to be o.k., other than that.

Items in the Project window have changed?

I have been working for a few hours now.
In the Project window there has been an icon of my HDD called "Macbook" sitting at the top of the list. I've been placing folders and individual projects under this HDD. I'm guessing the HDD icon represents the top level.
I then placed all of my projects into folders. For some reason the HDD icon has disappeared and I can't get it back. The reason this is a problem is that I now can't place a new project at the top level (ie: under the HDD), I have to place it in one of the folders. I can't even grab a project that's in one of the folders and drag it out of that folder.
Anyone have any ideas?

Did you do this within iMovie? The usual method is to choose File>New Folder from iMovie's menu. If you've created the folders outside of iMovie, that could be causing the problem.
Try deleting iMovie's preference file. Close iMovie first, then navigate to your user folder Library>Preferences and trash the file named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist". When next opened, iMovie will create a new file with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference (iMovie menu - iMovie>Preferences).
