IMovie skips while recording from iSight

I record videos weekly and this recently started happening. After I finish capturing footage from the iSight and play it back I notice that it cuts and skips through the footage. So even though I was recording for 5 minutes only 4 minutes will be there with random bit cut out. It just skips around.
I originally thought my macbook was overheating as it only seemed to happen sometimes and shutting it down for awhile would fix it. But it's happening more and more frequently and now skips in about every 10 seconds of footage.
Any thoughts on things I could try?

I think you need to free up as much hard disk space as possible:
  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8358.html
I like to keep at least half (no less than one third) of my startup disk free for best OS X and video performance. You can do with less, but, generally, the more space (and RAM) you have, the better things work.

iMovie quits while recording audio on the app it is the paid version I didn't get it free please help me I have uninstalled and reinstalled six times already with the same problem iOS 4.3.3 iPod touch 4g

I found this post by Appleman1958 in another forum thread in response to a similar issue with a different Cannon DV Camera.. but it may solve your issue as well. It worked for me.
Have you tried opening iMovie 08, then plugging in the camera to the firewire?
Camera should be plugged into electric power (not batteries).
Make sure your camera is turned on and in the right mode according to your owners manual. This is probably PC mode or playback mode.

  • Recording from iSight to iMovie

I try to record from my iSight to my iMovie (6.03) but after a very short time the recording stops. How do I lengthen the time that the camera will record to iMovie?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Maxandshe
    Consider the following:
    0) Your system info shows Mac OS X (10.3.x). Minimum system requirements for iMovie HD 6.0.3 include Mac OS X 10.3.9. Unless you are already using 10.3.9, repair permissions, download and apply the Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9, and repair permissions again after the restart that completes the update.
    1) More free disk space may help. Depending on the size of your hard drive, try to start with 20-40GB free when recording video, although you can get by with less. If you need more space, backup files you do not need while recording and delete them from your hard drive to make more space available.
    2) If you notice ANY other performance issues with your iBook, also consider the other suggestions relevant to your 10.3.x Mac from Mac OS X Maintenance.
    3) Make sure no apps other than iMovie are running while you are recording. if Mail is set to check automatically for new email, disable automatic checking while you are recording.
    4) Turn on LOTS of light. Good video quality requires more light than normal room lighting levels.

  • Recording from iSight - no sound in iMovie 8

Just tried this twice - restarted iMovie just in case.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, kenadianz
You're built-in iSight has no mic, so iMovie 7 ('08) will need to use your iMac's built-in mic or an external one.
If you have added an external mic, be sure you have selected the right mic for use in iMovie. If you have iMovie > View > Audio Skimming disabled and have not dragged the clips up into the edit window, you will not be able to hear anything. Beyond this, there are too many possibilities to try to list. You will need to do some troubleshooting to try to identify what needs to be fixed.
Try doing a voiceover on the clip. If that will not record sound either, check your volume settings.
Also, check your iMovie > Help for recording audio. If you need more help, try the Mac 101: iMovie tutorial to see if that might let you find your problem.
If none of the above helps, try recording audio in iMovie HD 6 to see if your problem is with iMovie 7 only.
Let us know what you find, and, if you need more suggestions, post as many details as you can about what your are doing and what you have tried.

  • While importing from my digital camera (Olympus XZ-2), iMovies quits, WHile importgin from my digital camera (Olympus XZ-2), iMovies quits

While importing from my digital camera (Olympus XZ-2), it "unexpectedly quits" - seems to happen on slightly larger clips (over 90 seconds) - not sure if it is related to the model camera or iMovie 11'. Any advice?

Lion is 10.7, Snow Lepoard is 10.6, Leopard is 10.5.
I woul strongly recomend you update to 10.6.8 (the last snow lepoard update) for a number of reasons. First 10.6.8. is a solid OS at this point you won't have to many (or any) gotcha's. Second Leopard (10.5.x) is going away. Pretty sure there will be no more updates for it at this point. If not it won't be long before that happens. Also you will need to have 10.6.8 installed in the event you want to at some point upgrade to Lion.
But finally perhaps the most important point if you don't have 10.6.8 you can't acess the App Store and if you can;t acess the App Store you will need to get the boxed version of Aperture 3. The differerence in price between the boxed version and the App Store version will more then pay for the upgrade to Snow Leopard. In fact you should have  a fair bit of change left over.
    good luck

  • With imovie can I record from camcorder

In Quick time I can choose any mic I have hocked up to my computer. It will also allow me to to pick which camera I want to record from. I have a mic in my web cam, stand alone mic, my stereo as inputs and mic in my Sony camcorder. I can record from any one of these. Can I do this in imovie? If so How.

iMovie is a video editing app, not a recorder. first record your video however you want, then import it into iMovie.

  • Recording from isight into imovie during powerpoint slideshow?

I'm setting up a visual perception experiment in which people see objects presented during a powerpoint slideshow. I would like to use my iSight camera to record their faces (their eye movements actually) into iMovie during this task without the iMovie window interrupting the powerpoint presentation. Is this possible?

See also the Nannycam options here

Although the idea of starting a recording behind the Presentation seesm good.

  • High Pitched Noise When Recording From iSight Camera

I apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search on here as well as with Google.
Whenever I record a video clip using the built in iSight camera I notice that there is a constant high-pitched noise embedded in the clip. You don't hear the noise during recording, and otherwise the audio is crystal clear during playback, but I can't seem to figure out what is causing this noise. Video clips I import into iMovie don't have this problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How can I prevent this from happening with future recordings?

    Hello obsidianspider
I am sorry to report that you are one of about ten people who have posted here about audio noises during video recordings with MacBooks. I listened to your YouTube clip, and I believe you are hearing something. I can hear the muffled "thumping" of background noises being amplified because there is no voice or other close sound being recorded in your video, but my old ears do not hear anything high pitched in your video (or anywhere else for that matter.)
I am sure Apple is aware of the issue, but with so small a number reporting this issue among thousands of MacBooks sold, I understand why there is not yet a kBase technical article on this subject.
I expect that Apple searches its warranty & repair work for quality issues and trends, but, if you have not (and do not) contact Apple or your retailer for service on this issue, please report your problem via MacBook Feedback so Apple can accurately record the magnitude of this problem. Unlike posting in this user forum, "Feedback" reports go directly to Apple.
We users who post here have found no solution yet, so the problem appears to require professional service for resolution.
However, if you are willing to try a test, please post back and tell us whether video or movie clip recording applications other than Apple's give the same audio noise you hear when using iSight with iMovie. Apple's QuickTime Pro has already been tested and found to exhibit the problem.
If you have access to an external microphone that can be located away from your Mac while you record video, you could also test to see whether you are recording a physical sound coming from your Mac or electronic noise being produced within your Mac's circuitry.
If you want to read the suggestions we have offered for minimizing your audio noise in video recordings, take a look at the suggestions offered in Eemma's thread, which was the first to report this problem. The suggestions for minimizing noise start here:

  • EyeTV Skips While Recording

I just got an EyeTV hybrid USB tuner for my iBook G4 which runs Tiger (specs are on my footer) and I have problems with it when I record. It often skips and jumps (doesn't record every frame) when it records and makes the videos look like crap. This doesn't happen when I just view the TV, it just does it when I record. Does anyone know how I can prevent this from happening? My computer has more RAM (768 MB) than what they reccommend (256 MB), and I have no other programs open when I record. I also tried rebooting and that didn't work. All of my computer's other specs meet the software's system requirements as well.

  • Recording from iSIght

Is there a way I can record the feed from my isight so i can make a movie using it?

    Hi!
You seem to be a real Pro. Perhaps you can tell me (because nobody could till now), if there is any way to record two streams from two firewire cams. I use the broadcaster now, because it makes the right codec and compression in one go. I would love to use it twice or so ...
So do you know a solution for this problem?

  • Audio Skipping While Recording in GB '09

Hey there!  I hope this hasn't been answered before but I'm new to the podcasting game and just starting to get my feet wet, and just when I thought I had everything under control, I playback my 55 minute audio and realize there are MANY instance where the audio either cuts out, or quiets down to an absolute whisper for no rhyme or reason.
    I am running GB '09 on a  Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8.
I am using 2 USB Mics simulataneously to record a podcast.  Specifically I am using 2 CAD U1 USB Recording Microphones.
I paired them together as an aggregate device so I can record using multiple microphones.  After some testing I thought the audio sounded great after playback, and then let my podcast recording rip as I recorded a natural conversation with a friend for 55 minutes.  As we played back the audio, time after time the audio would either cut out, or it would become so faint that you could barely hear anything, but if you listened closely enough, it was the original audio.  We didn't mount the mics, but spoke directly into them from a close distance.  I am using 2 tracks obviously for each microphone.
Am I doing something wrong?  It ***** I have to re-record this already, but want to avoid this problem next time.
As for effects, I am using a -10db noisegate to rid the humming and echoing.  I am using manual bass reducer and compressor.  I have both monitors off.  Auto record level is on.  Master reverb and echo are both at 0.  Almost all the default settings aside from the noisegate and reverb.
Is it the microphones problem?  Were we moving around too much?  Is it a common problem with 2 USB mics?  Have I adjusted something wrongly on the settings?
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated, or if someone needs more info out of me to help, PLEASE feel free to ask so I can help you better understand where I stand.
Once again, I am a first time GB user, and podcaster.  Looking to perfect this and have my audio sound flawless!
    Thanks so much!

This doesn't sound usual but I would guess it could be a problem with the auto level. You may want to set the input levels and monitor the recording with headphones.

  • IMovie Import Time (Long) from iSight

I've noticed that after video is shot, there is an "import" delay - approximately 30 minutes for every hour of video. This means one can not begin editing until this has occured. Why can't iMovie simply import the video into a native format as it does with a Video Camera via DV port? This delay is troublesome.
    Golan.

I read about a similar situation here:

  • Recording from Internal ISight interupted during IMovie Playback

I record and edit a daily blog (5-6 minutes long) on IMovie 7.1.1 from my internal ISight which i eventually share/post on YouTube. I have over 100 blog postings and all the recordings has always worked well. My last 5 recordings (all at different times)have come out choppy. The audio and video get interrupted numerous times (usually between 5-15 seconds apart) as if there is a sudden break/jump in recording. The recording location and techniques are the same as they always were. It has nothing to do with the editing -- this is the actual raw footage from the ISIght recording. I do this for my business, and it really is an issue if my ISight/IMovie has a problem. Please someone advise

Taking Pictures are not a problem. S Photo Booth works. In fact, IMovie records. The problem is the slight interruption every 5-15 seconds in the recording
