IMovie slideshow audio edits?

I have exported a slideshow with audio into iMovie.  It doesn't appear that I can now edit the audio.  Must I delete the audio before I export into iMovie and then add audio so I can properly edit sound?  Thanks.

Double-click on the video thumbnails in the timeline. The Inspector should open. It has 3 tabs - Clip, Video and Audio. Select Audio then use the sliders to adjust volume, fade in and out, and so forth. I'm looking at iMovie '11 (version 9.0.8), but from memory think it works the same for iMovie '09 (version 8.0.6).

  • IMovie partial audio editing

Hello, I am trying to copy a portion of audio from one of my iMovie clips and paste it to another clip but can't seem to do it. I have a video where the audio is 7 minutes and 01 second long. I would like to copy only 4 minutes and 52 seconds of this audio and paste it into another clip where I deleted the audio.
Can this be done within iMovie or would I have to buy Final Cut Pro X???
           Thank you!!!

You can do this in iMovie.
First select the 7.01 clip. Right-click and select "Detach Audio". Drag the audio track to the 4:52 clip. You can trim it to 4:52 if necessary by dragging the right edge of the audio clip to the left.
Now you need to bring back the sound in your original 7.01 clip. YOu can do this by opening the Clip Inspector to the Audio tab and turning up the volume (or un muting).

  • IMovie Audio Editing help?!!!!?

    hi,
im trying to edit in iMove, but whenever i add music in the timeline (theres is no video yet) it appears as a little square, that expands as i add video to show waveforms, i want it, when i drop it in, to be a long bar with the waveforms so i can manipulate- just like it appears in final cut pro (i would use FCP but i am very bad with the audio editing in that and i enjoy iMovies simplicity) !! help please on how to do this!!!!

Add the audio clip AFTER video clip is in Timeline. I don't believe you can add an audio clip in an empty Timeline. I could be wrong, I've never tried it.

  • IMovie Slideshow to IDVD?

I have a Slideshow made in IMovie, with audio, text and transitions. It is a large slideshow (over 1 hour) and my first thought is compatability with IDVD. However, another concern is, will the content made in IMovie be transfered to IDVD?  Will I have to edit the IMovie project in IDVD, to make a DVD-R playable on friends DVD Players/TV's.  That being said, will the total content made in IMovie be viewable/recognized in IDVD and then offer the ability burn a DVD-R? Thanks from a novice.

Yes, it is an iMovie (video) project like any other. Finish editing in iMovie, then burn to a DVD in iDVD in the usual way.

  • Can I drop an IMovie Slideshow with music into IDVD?

    Hello,
I created (and it took a long time) a slideshow with music using IMovie. Now I want to burn it to a DVD and am realizing I need to put it into IDVD. I saved it to my desktop and then dropped it into the IDVD Magic program but it does not save the slideshow. Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it. I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page. Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it.
Click on the "Preview" button in the bottom left corner of the iDVD window. For more details go to iDVD Help: >_Making a Magic iDVD_
I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page.
Once you have added your slideshowGo to Help: _Adding images and movies to drop zones_
Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated.
I am not familiar with the workings Magic DVD, but if you have already created the slideshow, it might be just as easy to follow the regular route in making this project. If you wish to try this, follow these steps.
    1. Open iDVD, select to create a new project, and name it.
    2. Select the theme.
    3. Import your slideshow into iDVD. Go to your movies folder (or wherever your project is saved), and drag the iMovie icon (the one with the star) to the window of your iDVD project. Avoid drop zones.
    4. You can add photos to the drop zones by clicking on the "Media" Button in the bottom right corner, and then on "Photos". Just drag and drop the photos to their desired location.
    5. Preview by clicking on the triangle at the bottom of the window.
    6. When you are ready to burn, first go to File>Save as disk image. This will allow you to have a final check of your project before burning to DVD. You can see how this project will actually play when played on a regular DVD player. If everything is fine, you can then burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

  • Missing audio edits in YouTube

I load iMovie 11 media file into GB for my audio editing.  Works great and then I SHARE as a Quicktime .mov.  Quicktime .mov now plays back as it should with ALL my audio edits.  Then I upload this file by dragging and dropping the .mov file into YouTube (Yes, it's the correct file) and when played back on YouTube, only original unedited audio track is played back............
My analysis:  There must be multiple tracks in the .mov IMHO and Quicktime knows which ones to playback but only the original track is read by YouTube.  This may be BS on my part.......  I don't think I am doing anything wrong but believe there is a bug running around somewhere.......
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?
I have the latest iMovie 11 and Garageband and Quicktime running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
BTW, I got this idea for editing iMovie audio in Garageband and Garageband is all set up to do this, from David Pogue Missing Manual.  Other then the YouTube problem, it works great.  You have all these tracks to work with for sound effects, voice overs, music and panning with complete control.

    FLATTEN FIXED IT!
When "SHARE" to Quicktime, you can use H.264 or Mpeg 4 but to FLATTEN the audio tracks, I used AAC and when uploaded to YT, it all was there!
Thanks to all who volunteered the FLATTEN idea!  I had called Apple and they said it wasn't their problem as the QT .mov file played back okay while in Apple territory.
    THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP!

  • Advanced audio editing

I am trying to add a music clip to a video with effects and voice, but I want the voice to duck the music, but the music to duck the sound effects (explosions/etc), is there a way to do this?
Here's is a simplified breakdown of what I mean:
0-15 seconds I want the music to be at max volume, and the video audio to be 50% volume
15-30 seconds I want the music to be at 50% volume, and the video (this is where the voice comes in) to be at max volume.
30 seconds til 2:05 I want the music to be at max volume, and the video to be at 50%
2:05-2:15 Video back at max, audio at 50%
Is there a way to do this?

The Ducking feature will suppress every other track by the percentage you specify. For this reason, you don't want to Duck two clips at the same time.
It would be more straightforward for you to just adjust the volume levels rather than use the ducking.
As of iMovie 11, you can select a range within your audio clip and apply a volume (rather than apply the volume to the whole clip).  So I would do it that way.
See the video at this link called "All new audio editing".

  • IMovie can't edit sound for a portion of an event

Is there anyway of editing just a portion of the sound track from an event? I coughed during a video, and rather than have to redo all 12 minutes, I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either. But when in sound edit mode, iMovie auto-selects the entire event, so any edit I make, like reducing the volume, is done to the entire event. When I select a portion of the video, then try and invoke sound editing, it just won't happen. This just plain doesn't make any sense to me, but I don't know anything about sound/movie editing, so maybe this is just a limitation of iMovie.
    Any suggestions?

We-ell, it probably seems to AppleMan, and possibly others, that you DO really need "..10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.." ..and a good place to start is Apple's own iMovie Tutorials; there's a whole pile of them here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie .
You say "..I finally figured it out. You can't take the whole event into the project.." ..but you CAN. Just click anywhere on an Event (..that's any single clip in your 'Events' window..) then - as is standard throughout Apple programs - hold down the Apple ('Command') key and press the letter 'A' ..and that "Selects All" of that clip.
You can then drag all that clip into your 'Project' window. (..Dragging, I find, is far simpler than, as you say, "..select the event, then click on the Edit button to move it to the project"..)
But you asked about audio editing. There are several ways to do what you want:
You said "..I'd like to just edit the sound out for that portion, then put in a picture (my next effort) so you can't see me coughing either.." ..If you've already got, in your Events clips, a picture - or video clip - which you want to use to "cover up" your coughing, select that Event and drag it on top of the section of clip which you want to obscure in your Project window. When you release the mouse button to drop that clip on top of the clip which you want to obscure, here's what iMovie's Help file says will happen:
(..You have looked at iMovie's Help pages, haven't you? ..Search under, for example, 'Replace'..)
Anyway, when you drag a clip from Events onto a clip in your Project and release the mouse button, this little menu pops up:
..You can then choose what you want to do with that "cutaway" clip, such as "Replace at Playhead" or "Cutaway". Using it as a "cutaway" (..temporarily cutting away to that different shot, and then coming back to the original..) will then position it above the original clip. You can then click on the little "cogwheel" icon at the start of that cutaway clip, and then, in its drop-down menu, click on 'Audio adjustments', and choose 'Ducking: Reduce volume of other tracks..' and that will reduce - to zero, if you like - the sound from the underlying original track for the duration of that cutaway, so that your coughing disappears.
A second - and maybe simpler? - way to remove the coughing is to simply Split the video clip which has the coughing: Split it so that the sequence with the coughing ..let's say it's 3 seconds long.. becomes a separate 3-second clip. Then just click on the "cogwheel" icon at the start of that 3-second clip, and choose - as before - 'Audio adjustments', and then just drag the clip's audio level down to zero. So that you're not left with no sound at all, copy a short section of audio from elsewhere (..how? it's in the Apple Tutorials..) and paste it underneath that 3-second clip, or add music, or add an audio clip of general nondescript "ambience".
AppleMan did his best to help you. You might have offered him some thanks instead of just stamping your virtual foot and saying "..I don't need to be referred to 10 hours of videos or 50 pages of tutorials.."
He offered you help, and you spat at him. If you try a little courtesy next time; it'll get you much further.
(P.S: I see that AppleMan already succinctly explained to you exactly how to do this in your other question called "Can the sound track be deleted from a small portion of video?" ..!)

  • IMovie and Audio fine alignment..

    Two questions:
    1) I have a iMovie project where I have the movie and audio stream. I want to replace some parts of the movie with a different audio track (track 2). I have dragged and drop the second audio track to Track 2. Now how do I align that second audio track with finer granuality? When I try to move the track it moves in terms or 10-12 millisecs.. how do I make it move more precisely? or more that it starts at a particular frame?
    2) I have another iMovie project where I want only the audio from it, so I need to export just the audio track to an aiff file. How do I do that?
    Thanks.

    Hi Seejo,
that was a very interesting question! I just made a test, and my presumption was confirmed: iMovie as a basic video edit app has a "quantization" of one frame... meaning, the smallest step in timeline is one frame, which is 1/25 or 1/30th of a second...-
and it seems so, I zoomed max into timeline, that this smallest piece of time is also valid for audio...
I'm afraid, even the BigBrother of iM, FCE doesn't do smaller steps, because here again, you need to lock to 1/25th/ 1/30th of a second...(maybe FCP offers fields = 1/50th/1/60th of a second)
to do more precise edits in audio, you need a designated audio edit app...

  • IMovie DVD audio no syncronized with video

Just prior to the holidays, I spent many hours creating my first iMovie project; a video of my nieces and nephews with old video dating from the period 1987-1999. I imported old VHS and Hi8 footage to my Sony DCR TRV30 digital camcorder, then edited the footage using iMovie 4.0.1. I added music, transitions, titles etc. and ended up with about a 40 minute video which contained 2.7 GB worth of data. I burned the movie to a DVD-R using iDVD. However, when I played the disc on my DVD player, the audio was about a second behind the video. I assume the problem occurred during the burn process, because when I reviewed the project in iMovie, the audio and video were "synced." Any suggestions or thoughts as to wha might have happened? Thanks in advance...

  • IMovie SlideShow Project to IDVD?

I am very new to IDVD. I have ILife'11 to be delivered and installed, sometime soon.  When IDVD is installed, I envision a simple click and drag or share option to transfer my IMovie Slideshow to IDVD. Right? My project in IMovie is very large (834 clips) with transitions and audio. I like what was created in IMovie and would like to see this on a DVD for sharing with others. Will the content created in IMovie be transferred over to IDVD? Would I select the Magic DVD portion of the IDVD menu, to create the DVD?  If you create a new project and import a large amount of photos to an IDVD slideshow, how do you then accomplish attaching audio to a large number of photos? Is the process, similar to IMovie audio? Thanks.

From iMovie 9 and earlier select the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.
Open your iDVD project, go to the Media Browser/Movies pane and drag the movie into your menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones that may be there.
For iMovie 10 export the movie out of iMovie with Size = 480p and manually drag the file into your iDVD menu window.
To add audo to an iDVD slideshow of stills first create a playlist in iTunes of the tracks you want to use.  In the slideshow window go to the Media/Audio pane at the right, find the playlist and drag it into the audio bin at the bottom.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IMovie multi-track edit

I am trying to learn iMovie and I'm struggling with it. I am quite used to a linear video editor where the video and audio are on separate tracks and can be edited/cut accordingly.
Anyways, round 2 of my video projects needs interviews and background music. I cannot figure out how to manage two simultaneous audio tracks in a visually understandable arrangement... I cannot find how to crossfade/edit the audio in this version of iMovie!!!
    Goal-
Play a song during the photo and video montage portion, then during an interview portion, fade down the background song and then raise up the volume once again for the next song&montage after the interview.
Using iMovie '11 on Lion 10.7.3

First some general info, then to your specific question.
If you are doing interviews, the Cutaway feature will help you greatly for adding B-Roll. Here is a Tutorial. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/imovie_09_stone.html#cutaway%20pip
For sound, there are several ways to do that.
If you use Cutaway, the interview sound continues during the the cutaway.
If you are using Voiceover. You can select the Voiceover track and open the Inspector to the Audio tab. Select the Ducking Feature. Set the percentage to diminish all other tracks except the selected track. When the voiceover track completes, the normal volumes for music will continue. If you want to adjust the volume in just one audio track without affecting the other audio tracks, just use the volume slider rather than the ducking feature.
For greatest control over music tracks, do not drag them in as background music. Rather, drag them in and drop them on the video clip where you want them to start. They will appear as a ribbon beneath the video clips. You can easily move, shorten, etc.
Here is a Tutorial from Apple that shows the audio features including ducking. http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips
There are new audio features in iMovie 11 that are not covered in the iMovie 08 Tutorial. You can see an overview here under "All New Audio Editing". http://www.apple.com/ilife/video-showcase/

How do I correct this problem?
Make your slideshow as a movie in iPhoto or Imovie.
Images in iDVD created slideshows are considered to be 'Chapters' and many/most set top DVD player drop the audio on chapter changes.

  • Audio editer

I am Looking for a freeware or shareware audio editer that I can put chapter markers in and it can split up into differant files. A standalone program whould work to. I have tryed almost everything out there. HELP!!!!!!

Hi, I made this silent movie to show you it works dragging voice files from iMovie to iTunes!
I did say the exported quicktime file would be a single file, and you can touch that up with Audacity.
Perhaps for more control you take each chapter from itunes into Audacity, do what tweaking you need to do and drag it into the correct place in iMovie timeline to end up with a continuos file.
Ideally iMovie should have the editing capabilities of Audacity but it doesnt.

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
