IMOVIE Slideshow Functions

When creating a slideshow in iMovie HD 6, is there a way you can add a transition to each of the photos in one step, like copy and paste? I have used other software (PC) that allows the creator to add a particular transition (like random) and duration throughout the entire project. Being new to the Mac, I was just trying to find if there is a script to allow this. I have used iPhoto and Photo Presenter to create other sldieshows, but I would like to use iMovie. Currently I have a project with 120 photos and adding the same transition 120 times separate times is something I would think the developers would have incorporated an "add current transition to all" command into this. Additionally, what is the best format when exporting the movie to ensure the best quality when creating a DVD.

Currently I have a project with 120 photos
and adding the same transition 120 times separate
times is something I would think the developers
would have incorporated an "add current transition
to all" command into this.
On a Mac, commands often act on "the selection", whatever that selection is. Commands that act on ONE thing can often act on SEVERAL if more than one is selected.
That's true in iMovie too. Although there is no "apply to all" command, If you select 120 photos you can apply the same transition to all. So iMovie does exactly what you want, if you first select the clips.
In Mac parlance, that's called "elegance", where the application anticipates what you want to do and lets you do it easily. It's also called "confusing", at least until you figure out how it works.
Note, by the way, that a transition reduces the play-time of the photo. The amount depends on the type of transition. You may want to test a couple before adding a transition to all.
Additionally, what is the
best format when exporting the movie to ensure the
best quality when creating a DVD.
No export is necessary. Just ask iMovie to share the project with iDVD. iMovie sends iDVD the address of a small movie that iMovie stores inside the project, made especially for iDVD each time we save the project.
Before you share it, make sure you read about the iMovie bug that can damage your photo clips. Described here:

  • Can I drop an IMovie Slideshow with music into IDVD?

    Hello,
I created (and it took a long time) a slideshow with music using IMovie. Now I want to burn it to a DVD and am realizing I need to put it into IDVD. I saved it to my desktop and then dropped it into the IDVD Magic program but it does not save the slideshow. Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it. I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page. Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Or if it does, I can't seem to figure out how to play it.
Click on the "Preview" button in the bottom left corner of the iDVD window. For more details go to iDVD Help: >_Making a Magic iDVD_
I also can't figure out how to choose the picture for the IDVD theme page.
Once you have added your slideshowGo to Help: _Adding images and movies to drop zones_
Any help with how to burn my IMovie slideshow on a DVD using either IDVD or some other way, would be greatly appreciated.
I am not familiar with the workings Magic DVD, but if you have already created the slideshow, it might be just as easy to follow the regular route in making this project. If you wish to try this, follow these steps.
    1. Open iDVD, select to create a new project, and name it.
    2. Select the theme.
    3. Import your slideshow into iDVD. Go to your movies folder (or wherever your project is saved), and drag the iMovie icon (the one with the star) to the window of your iDVD project. Avoid drop zones.
    4. You can add photos to the drop zones by clicking on the "Media" Button in the bottom right corner, and then on "Photos". Just drag and drop the photos to their desired location.
    5. Preview by clicking on the triangle at the bottom of the window.
    6. When you are ready to burn, first go to File>Save as disk image. This will allow you to have a final check of your project before burning to DVD. You can see how this project will actually play when played on a regular DVD player. If everything is fine, you can then burn the DVD using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

  • Using slideshow function yield very fuzzy/soft focus show.  Same images in MS slideshow are sharp.

When I view a selection of images using the slideshow function in Bridge, (CS6) it significantly softens the focus of every image.  If I view the same images in the MS slideshow viewer, the images, same screen size, of possibly even slightly larger, are very sharp.  Why the problem?  Typically I am working with 3-8 MB files.

Thanks for your reply and for the link. However, the link addresses the problem for TV appearance while mine was concerned about the playback on my iMac.
When I burned other DVDs from Keynote, there was no "blurring or fuzziness" with photos or text on playback with my iMac or TV!
Also, the playback was automatic when the disk was inserted. When the latest one was inserted, the disk icon etc had to be clicked for it to run after which full screen had to be selected as well.
I do not want to make a DVD from iDVD - just one that will run the slideshow.
Any other suggestions on burning would be appreciated.

  • IWork '09 - slideshow function stopped working

Since upgrading to iWork '09 the slideshow function ceases to work.
My site used to be located where I worked, but for the past eight months it has been posted to MobileMe. It worked fine until the iWork '09 update. The slideshow function it used to work exactly as it was supposed to work. Now, the slideshows open full page with a black background (as per my settings). Unfortunately, not one single image displays. Even after changing the background to grey, nothing showed.
I have tried turning off various options for slideshow, resetting my options, but nothing works. The site shows the changes but no slideshow.
I have tested the site on Safari, which always showed the slideshows before my upgrade, and I downloaded the newest Firefox with the same results for my site.
Anyone else have this problem? Anyone find a way to make this function work?
BTW, this site was originally built with the original iWeb, then I updated to iWeb '08 and everything worked. Now the site is "broken" with iWeb '09.

Have you tried deleting the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist? If not do so, launch iWeb and try publishing to a folder again. If that doesn't help, try the following:
log into another account and see if you can publish to a folder and get the slideshow to work there. If it doesn't work there maybe a reinstall of iWeb is in order. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Then reinstall iWeb from the disk it came on.
If iWeb works in the other account then the problem exists in your primary account the problem could be a preference file other than iWeb's. You can determine if that's the case by this:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Burning IMovie slideshow to a disc - still possible after recent update?

Greetings, I've used IMovie to put stil photos and some video into an IMovie slideshow.  Previously, I'd used IDVD to burn the slideshow to a DVD, but since the recent update to Mavericks, IDVD is apparently no longer supported by Apple.  Question:  How does one now burn their IMovie slideshows to a DVD?  Also, with friends in Australia and New Zealand (where PAL is the format) to whom I'd like to share the DVD, is PAL format possible?  Thanks for any assistance!  Phil

In iDVD 1-3, there was good quality up to 60 minutes, fair quality from 61 minutes to 90 minutes. Starting in iDVD 4, you could get movies up to 120 minutes, but the quality degrades with increased running time, starting at about 70 minutes. The quality at 120 mins is still better than the old version's 61-90 minute projects.
To get two movies on the same DVD, start by preparing the first movie the normal way. Then drag the second movie's small .mov file into the iDVD window. You will now get another button for the second movie. Be sure to select "Best Quality" in iDVD first.

  • Imovie slideshow project to DVD

Do I need iDVD to convert my iMovie slideshow project to a dvd and play in a dvd player?

    Hi
First of all - You need a DVD authoring program as iDVD. (No way around this - but there are free alt. as Burn™)
In iMovie'13 (vers 10.0.x) - Select SideShow (Video) project.
Share to file and as 460p - NOTHING ELSE !
    Close iMovie and open iDVD
    Import the Shared file
    Select Encoding quality
In iDVF pref / Advanced - Burn Speed max 4 rather x2)
    Save as a DiskImage
Test this to see all is OK
    Burn the DVD
I only use - Verbatim DVD-R as they works greatly to me - NEVER Memorex, NoName or other cheap media = PROBLEMS
Good Luck - Yours Bengt W

  • IMovie SlideShow Project to IDVD?

I am very new to IDVD. I have ILife'11 to be delivered and installed, sometime soon.  When IDVD is installed, I envision a simple click and drag or share option to transfer my IMovie Slideshow to IDVD. Right? My project in IMovie is very large (834 clips) with transitions and audio. I like what was created in IMovie and would like to see this on a DVD for sharing with others. Will the content created in IMovie be transferred over to IDVD? Would I select the Magic DVD portion of the IDVD menu, to create the DVD?  If you create a new project and import a large amount of photos to an IDVD slideshow, how do you then accomplish attaching audio to a large number of photos? Is the process, similar to IMovie audio? Thanks.

From iMovie 9 and earlier select the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.
Open your iDVD project, go to the Media Browser/Movies pane and drag the movie into your menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones that may be there.
For iMovie 10 export the movie out of iMovie with Size = 480p and manually drag the file into your iDVD menu window.
To add audo to an iDVD slideshow of stills first create a playlist in iTunes of the tracks you want to use.  In the slideshow window go to the Media/Audio pane at the right, find the playlist and drag it into the audio bin at the bottom.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Looking for free royalty-free music for imovie slideshow

    hi there,
i wanted to score my imovie slideshow with some free royalty-free music. can anyone suggest any sites where i can find it? i need about 1 1/2 - 3 mins., instrumental, easy listening or pop. thanks in advance.

Are you selling your slideshow or just using it for yourself and friends? If not, I don't think you need worry about licensing. You can just use music from your itunes folder for personal use. If you are using it in a commercial sense, then use look for royalty free. I posted royalty free question once, but what i really meant was where to find music and what sounds good. Also, imovie has some jingles that are instrumental. Some go for over a minute.

  • Is there any plan to add slideshow functionality as well as being able to click from file to file in Creative Cloud Files?

Is there any plan to add slideshow functionality as well as being able to click from file to file in Creative Cloud Files? Seems like the basics, especially when needing to display large numbers of images/photos for a client to comment on. Am I missing something obvious here?

    Hi Rickbalfour,
There isn't any functionality like this currently that I'm aware of but I agree that having this feature would be helpful. I'll ensure its shared with our developers.
    Thanks for sharing the suggestion,

  • On Apple TV, my pictures have loaded, but I cannot get the slideshow function to work.  It has been "loading" 28 pictures for over 5 minutes.  What is wrong?

On Apple TV, my pictures have loaded, but I cannot get the slideshow function to work.  It has been "loading" 28 pictures for five minutes.  What am I doing wrong?  I have Windows 7 on my PC.

I don't have any direct experience with D-Link equipment, but I may be able to provide some general advice. See if you can use a Web browser to connect to the D-Link's configuration screen. This probably involves visiting a URL such as http://www.192.168.0.1 . If you haven't changed the sign-on parameters, a quick Google search should find them for you.
Once there, note as many configuration details as you can find. You'll need those to configure your Time Capsule.
Use the AirPort Utility to configure the Time Capsule.
One last thing: It's quite possible that the Verizon network will have locked onto the "MAC" address of your D-Link router. Something needs to be done to reset this. If there's a separate box at your house that came with the FIOS equipment that's "upstream" from the D-Link router, I'd cycle power on it to see if that does the job. Otherwise you'll probably need to call Verizon to ask them to reset things once your Time Capsule is installed in place of the D-Link router.

I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd.  I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.

I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years...

  • Imovie slideshow image quality problems

I have created a slideshow in imove with music of a wedding my wife and I shot. For some reason the image quality is really poor. I tried going through idvd and I tried exporting it as a quicktime movie and burning it with toast but they both look crappy on the tv when we watch them. Please help because I need to get it out to the clients.
I have done this once before and I did have some problems but somehow got the quality we wanted. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Wayne Sawyer

If some slides show a lot of "jaggies" the project may have been affected by a long-standing bug in iMovie that adds jaggies to photos when you share the project with iDVD. If we grant permission for iMovie to render the images when sending the project to iDVD, it messes them up pretty badly.
If that's what happened, you'll need to re-import those images to replace the badly-rendered clips.

  • Why are some pictures blurred in IMovie slideshow

I have used IMovie to make slideshows mixed with videos for years. I have even made one recently which was perfect. Suddenly, some of the photos, though crystal clear in the timeline are blurred when set in motion. Certain transitions seem to cause the affect, but, it is hard to figure out why and which ones do it. IMovie seems to record the show in 1080 HD (1920 x 1080) whatever that might mean. When I tried sharing it to ITunes in both HD 720p (1280 x 720) or Large 540p, there is some improvement, but not on all. I am at a total loss as to what to do.

Sounds like you are in Browser view, not the Viewer view.
Is anything reported in the Activity window ("Window→Show Activity")?
What happens if you select all and then while pressing "Option" execute "Photos→Generate Previews"?
