Imovie slow to open after ssd installation
Hello - I have a new 2012 mac pro 6 core. I just installed 256 GB crucial SSD with apps and OS only (40GB). User files are on 2TB HD. Everything boots well and all other programs open fast except imovie. It is very sluggish and slower than on original boot drive. It is better if I list with login items and it opens at start. I have repaired disk permissions. I have read a few threads of this happening elsewhere but no real resolution. I am not married to the SSD (I can reutn it) and was primarily hoping it would HELP with imovie performance vs make at least opening slower. I have checked system profiler and my CPU, RAM dont seem to be pushing any limits. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Not the guide I would have, and this question has been part of dozens and every "dedicated SSD" thread here.

http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/00E03B83-1ADA-406E-A940-396D39F 598EA.html
HOW did you put the OS on the SSD? CCC or something; or from fresh install?
Setup Assistant?
What was the original boot drive? I take it not the 2TB drive you have now for User/myaccount/
I don't see his telling you to copy the user folders. They leave them where they are, which means leaving the old system and drive as it was but now for your user account. We are more of the pull the old drive after you copy your user account to a new hard drive to a folder.
4 x 2GB is okay but the way things get loaded into memory I like to have extra.

Pararells desktop 5 can't open after Lion installation. does pararells desktop 6 work with Lion?
Latest build (6.0.12094) works fine with Lion. V4&5 do not work. If you upgrade to V6 now you get a free upgrade to V7 (according to the Parallels site). V7 is coming soon or now if you are a registered V6 user.

IMovie won't open after downgrading from Lion to Snow Leopard
Okay iMovie 08' and 11' both worked absoloutly fine on my MacBook Pro (17" Core 2 Duo 2009 model) when I had Snow Leopard installed.
I then upgraded to Lion and iMovie 11' still worked fine but Lion had a lot of bugs so I decided to wipe and install Snow Leopard again. I then used the Migration Assistant to move my Apps from a Time Machine backup to my Mac. Everything worked okay except Java was broken. Everytime I launched a Java application it would say Java 1.5 not found. I managed to fix this with a lot of Googling.
But now I've come across another issue. I noticed that iWeb, iPhoto and iMovie will not open. The icons bounce in the dock and then they finish bouncing and it appears to have loaded, the top menubar says the application name and I can click on File, Edit from the top menu and all the normal options are presented to me. But the main interface of these programs simply does not open. I managed to fix iPhoto by reading online about removing a folder called ProKit.Framework in my Library and that worked for iPhoto perfectly it now comes up and loads like normal. But iWeb and iMovie still do not load. I don't really care about iWeb but I do care about iMovie not working as I use that all the time.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
So far what I've tried:
1. Remove all traces of anything iLife releated on my Hard Disk including pkg receipts, cache files, .pref files and so on
2. Tried just reinstalling the entire iLife suite several times
3. Tried installing Quicktime 7 from the Snow Leopard Optional Installs DVD
4. Tried changing colour profiles on my Display (I read this worked for someone else, did nothing for me)
5. Made a new user account on my Mac and tried to run iMovie from that account, same result it 'runs' but the interface doesn't show up.
Thanks for any help you can provideI just thought I'd reply to say that I just fixed this by deleting the following folder and afterwards running software update.
iLifeMediaBrowser in /Library/Application Support
It would appear that if you erase this folder and then reinstall iLife it does something that brings this folder back or recreates it. But if you run Software update after erasing it, it downloads this folder from Apple (about 2.5MB) and that fixes the problem completely.
Hope this helps someone else! -
Photoshop CC very slow to open after Win 8.1 upgrade
Hi guys.
I was wondering can you help me. I have tried extensive google searches with no real conclusive answer. I recently upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1. Since the upgrade Photoshop CC is very slow to open. It can take 1-2 minutes to boot up fully. Lightroom 5.2 & bridge open fine. I have a pretty fast system with i7 3.4Ghz Processor & 32Gb of Ram with the OS running on a 256Gb SSD Hard Drive. PS CC booted up fine on Win 8 but not anymore since the upgrade. The only plug-in I run is OnOne Photosuite 8. I have even tried disabling loading extenions at start up from the preferences menu but it makes no difference as it can stil take 1-2 minutes to open. Any help appreciated??There was a Photoshop update that corrected a problem Adobe had accidentally introduced with a link that went to a network resource that is not available for anyone outside Adobe. But that was a while ago. See: Re: Photoshop CC startup slow (much harddisk access)
I've had Win 8.1 all along and never had an update cause a slowdown.
Unfortunately problems that go away on their own often return on their own. I hope that's not the case for you and that it continues to work properly.

IMovie will not open after ram upgrade. How can I fix this?
I updated the ram on my computer by myself from 2gb to 4gb. Everything seemed to work fine, yet when I go to open imovie, it will not open after endlessly bouncing on my dock. I have verified disk permissions. Repaired disk Permissions. Tried replacing iMovie with the iMovie backup from my time machine. Cleared the system cache. Tried reinstalling it using the ilife 11 disk. Tried installing the previous ilife 09 version. Reinstalled snow leopard and did a time machine back up. Placed the old ram back in the computer. All this things done with no success.
DOES SOMEBODY HAVE ANY IDEA ON WHAT I COULD DO?
regards
LloydHi
My first two thoughts
• Faulty RAM - There are programs that can test this as Tech-tools (buy or in Apple Care pac)
• Wrongly inserted RAM - Can be tricky and sometime not obvious - everything's looks OK but in certain situations it just randomly don't work.
Take out the new RAM and try Your Mac without it to see that it's still OK to start with and then very carefully re-install RAM and now be very careful to see that it snaps in exactly as it's intended to.

Imovie will not open after installing leopard
Leopard was installed and then ilife 08. Imovie would not open- what do I need to do?
welcome cw50 to the boards..
reading the iM08 and the Leopard boards here at apple-discussions, and other ext. boards, you'll notice many topics like yours..
there's actual no 'official' or unofficial workaround to fix that ..
just to add to database:
did you made a clean-install of 10.5. on your System?
or, as most of us would do, just 'upgrade' your OS, without reinstalling all software...?
and, please, don't hesitate to give Apple directly feedback:

IMovie slow to load after installing SSD
Hi everyone, I have just installed an SSD in the spare optical drive bay of my Mac Pro and added RAM.
(Specs below.) I did a clean install of SL.
Before I did this I was booting from the 320GB drive that came with the computer and I have all my photos and video on a 2 drive RAID 0.
Before iMovie would launch in 11 seconds for the first launch and 6 seconds thereafter. That included loading projects and events.
Now it takes about 1 second to launch but 40 seconds to load the projects and events every time.
I have ditched pref files and retried but no good.
Any suggestions?Yes, but the test is based on a 128k file, written many many times. That's fine with that, but video files imported into iMovie's cache area are not 128k large; they are much much larger especially when you're working with HD footage! You can also do another test and that is to completely wipe out your SSD drive and start over. After install, run iMovie 11 again and see. If it loads fast with the events, then you know that's the best that drive can do under your typical usage. However, if the drive still behaves exactly the same before and after a clean install, then something is wrong with the drive.
I don't believe there's any issues with your optical bay since it supports a SATA connection. You can check under system profile to see what link mode it is in now. For your Sandforce SSD, ideally it should be negotiating at 3Gbps rather than 1.5.
Personally, I have the same drives RAIDed in RAID 0 on my PC and while it is fast, it does slow down when I did too many big video writes despite what they claim as being trouble TRIM free. But with the slight slowdown, it is still much better and faster than a physical RAID 0 hard drive. -
Disk Utility slow to open after Mavericks update
Installed Mavericks 10.9 in 4 laptops and the June-2012 15" MacBook Pro (Crucial M4 SSD) is having issues with Disk Utility opening. Normally opening DU is instant but after the Mavericks upgrade I get a spinning beach ball for maybe 10-15 seconds then it opens.....this doesn't happen every time I open DU but for sure after every startup or reboot.
Thing I've tested are:
Startup in SAFE mode.....same issue.
Created a test account....same issue.
I've repaired permission and ran disk repair multiple time and no issues noted.
I also disabled Dropbox and 1Password from starting at boot......this helped with Finder being slow, but not DU.
Any ideas
The other laptops are fine:
2009 15" MacBook Pro (Crucial M4 SSD)
2011 13" MacBook Air
2011 11" MacBook Air
Any suggestions?Still seeing the same problems with DU. I really would like to here from others with this issue and if they found a fix.
I did take my MBP to Apple store for diagonsis but thye found NO hardware problems what so ever. They suggested to do a fresh install......which I have done with no fix (twice).
I have a 2009 MBP that has NO issues with DU.
There's got to be a reason software or hardware and it seam that I have ruled them both out. -
Hi All,
I have a 2012 MBP, which used to run smooth as silk, but it has dropped down to a snail pace after upgrading to Yosemite. I'd appreciate recommendations on how to re-store, kill malware, etc based on my machines diagnostics reported below:

IMovie won't open after iLife 08 install
I just recently purchased iLife 08 and installed it on my computer. iMovie was working fine before, but now I just get a message that says that it quit unexpectedly. It won't even open. When I clicked on report it said EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) along with a bunch of other stuff. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a bad copy. I have tried installing it 3 times, but same thing each time.

Aperture doesn't open after clean installation of Mountain Lion
I have just done a clean installation of mountain lion.
After that, I have downloaded my copy of aperture from the store and installed it ( i think, just becase when done, at the store says that it is installed )
But when I try to launch aperture from de applications menu, an error appears and aperture quits immediatelly. The error says that, "an error has occurred. You should reinstall aperture or could be your operating system is not supported", more or less, translating it from the Spanish.
I have been searching for the installed files with finder, but nothing seems to be installed at the hard disk. Even the library that tipically appears at the Pictures folder doesn't appear.
Could somebody help me, please?
kind regards to everybody. Many thanks for your answer.

Adobe Captivate 7 will not open after successful installation
After successful installtion of Captivate 7, I am unable to open/run the program. The error message below is received when attempting to open the program. I've installed/uninstalled the program twice both with the same results. Any thoughts on why this is happening??
My system details:
Windows edition: Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
Installed memory: 4.00 GBHello and welcome to the forum,
Did you install on the system itself, hopefully not on a networked drive? And is the default folder 'My Documents' on your system as well?
Which version: 32-bit or 64-bit. 4GB of RAM and a Duo, I would recommend 32-bit really.
Do you launch Captivate as an Administrator?
