IMovie Slowed Right Down

What causes iMovie to slow wayyy down? It was dreadful last week when I was using it.  I cleaned up my PC system but I am about to make another movie and I don't need it to happen again. I have about 10 movies in iMovie.

You are in a banded profile probably due to router dropping connection or manual resets or both
Your connection will get out of banding if you stay connected 24/7 for 3/5days. Your noise margin will reduce to 15db with your speed increasing. Your noise margin will continue to fall over next few weeks with speed increasing each time it drops

  • CS5 suddenly slowed right down on PC Windows 7

Hi,  my CS5 Illustrator, Photoshop & Bridge have suddenly slowed right down just in the last 3 or so weeks.
Even a diagosis of my PC says it is running very slowly, so I read up on the trouble shooting advice, updated the graphics card driver that was the only thing out of date, did disc cleanups, deleted or moved a lot of big files to other drives, defragged, but still no improvement.
I used to be able to open 300 mb files, but now just opening a 8mb file leaves my PC hanging, for about 10 mins.
These are my specs, & Norton's analysis. Even though Norton says my Windows Firewall is dsabled (because I have a different firewall), it says 0 virus problems. What else could be happening?
HP Pro 3130 Small Form Factor PC, running Windows 7
    4.00 GB RAM
    32-bit operating system
    4 processor cores
    64-bit capable
    3414 GB hard disks
Disk partition (C:) 114 GB Free (460 GB Total)
Disk partition (D:) 936 MB Free (6 GB Total)
ATI Radeon HD 4550  Total available graphics memory 1899 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory 512 MB
    Dedicated system memory 0 MB
    Shared system memory 1387 MB
    Display adapter driver version 8.940.11.0
    DirectX version 10

And you're trusting Norton on this, right? Sorry, but to be blunt: That's like fighting fire with gasoline. In fact Norton's tools have long been known to be as conspicuous and overly agressive as some computer viruses themselves. For all I know, it could be their bloated services, virus vaulting and endless scans at the most inconvenient times that drag down your system. Or conversely you do have a virus and Norton is constantly battling it. The long and short answer therefore is: Nuke your system, reinstall it from scratch.

  • Why is my laptop slowing right down when itunes is installed?

i have a windows 7 laptop that i have installed itunes on and it has slowed my laptop right down. the cpu usage is going up to 100% and it is taking at least 5 minutes to do any basic actions such as opening an application (ms Word etc). i have 2gb of ram and decent intel with it. i cannot understand why when i have loads of memory left and the programme isnt actually open. and when i do manage to get it open, it wont let me access the itunes store. is there a way of turning itunes off for when im not using it like you do on the ipod for example, and turning it back on when i need it again?
And i cant understand why it wont let me access the itunes store. the firewall is not blocking it and i have a decent wifi connection although the dagnostics on it says i dont have a sercure wifi connection. any ideas for this?
    Thanks

  • Why is the rendering process slowing right down?

    Hi,
I'm rendering a 4 minute clip of Pro Res LT files, there's a few effect on it but right now I'm only rendering the video at 1/4 quality.
It starts rendering fine. Then starts to slow down, and by the time it gets to about 99.35%, it takes hours to render about 0.10 %, still rendering now, has been rendering over night, and is still on 99.54 %.
Every time it renders another frame, it adds another frame onto the amount that still needs to be rendered. And the estimated amount of time left stays about the same - between 3 and 4 minutes (not true).
I'm working on a Mac, with 4GB of RAM, but also rendering to an external hard drive that should have about 400GB free.
    Help please!
    Ashleigh

ah! "locate" is a command you can use to search (inside Terminal,) though you should keep in mind that its database is only updated once a week by default, however, you can update it manually whenever you like, which takes a few minutes, using (in Terminal):
    sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb
actually, you could always automate that by adding this to the following file: "~/.bash_profile"
    [begin --don't include this line]
    alias locate='if [ $((`date +%s`-`eval $(stat -s /var/db/locate.database); echo $st_mtime`)) -gt 3600 ]; then echo "locate: db is too old!">/dev/stderr; sudo /usr/libexec/locate.updatedb; fi; locate -i'
[end --that code is all you need, and it needs to be kept together, all in one line]
    f.
Note: if you need to create the file, (in Terminal) use:
    touch ~/.bash_profile

  • Project slowing right down

    Hi there
We are editing some footage from around 8 tapes, some different formats (HD, AVCHD etc... ) and the project is starting to become very unresponsive.
    We are runnning a Sony Vaio VGN-AR49G – specs here - http://vaio-online.sony.com/prod_info/vgn-ar49g/vgn-ar49g.pdf..
    Running fresh install of Win7.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips of settings (or anything...) which we can tweak to try to get the project to become a bit more responsive.  Things like we turned off the "showing frames & wave forms" on the timeline and it speed things up.
    Thanks very much!
    Regards
    Jen

    It's Premiere Pro CS4
According to the stickers on the bottom it is Intel 2 duel Core T7500, 2.2G, 320 HDD, unsure about the RPM ?
I have a bit more information about the sequence of events ..
Editing was fine yesterday (HD and AVCHD in the timeline)
    Rendered over night.
2 new tapes imported (but not yet loaded into the timeline)
Same timeline, very slow today, after doing anything in the timeline the swirly hourglass pops up for around 30 seconds.
Looking at the computer resources being used CPU is at 70% RAM 50-60%
We have increased the Virtual Memory to 4096.
Is there anything else specifically which we should tweak?
Can we turn Importer Process Server off?  It uses twice as much memory (495000K) as Premier Pro (247000K)
Is there a repair we can do?? ... or any way to tell what is happening when the swirly hourglass appears?
Thanks very much for your help..

  • Imovie - slowing down and speeding up videos?

Hi, i have the latest imovie and i'm having difficulty knowing how to speed my videos up and slow them down. I can't find the option to do that. On the older version of imovie, i clicked ' media '
but the one i got from ilife..i'm just not sure.

but, IF you manage to use it, the results are superb due to the pro-feature of 'frame blending', I excessively use it now for all my soccer-videos.. the iMovie slowmo often fails to avoid stutter on final DVDs.. with JESDI, I feel like a broadcast director

  • In large PDF files my cursor moves around the page at warp speed. It does not seem to make any difference if I slow it down with Sys Prefs. This is not only in preview but also other programs to open PDFs.

In large PDF files the cursor moves at warp speed with a mind of it's own, I've tried slowing it down in Sys Pref with no luck. On small files cursor action is normal. This happens in Safari, Preview and other programs that use PDF files. Sorry to say this does not seem to be a new problem with 7.# I've had it with prvevious versions of operating system Right now I'm using a Apple wireless mouse and key board. Using the USB keyboard and mouse the same problem does not go away.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Small changes to a web gallery slows iPhoto down to a crawl

I am using iPhoto 7.1.1, the latest update at this time. I have a large number of web galleries published through iPhoto to .Mac. The latest is about 150 photos from Christmas. I originally published without changing the photo titles. I have been correcting that plus adding a few more photos. Any small change in a web gallery seems to be immediately published and that slows iPhoto down to a crawl. I have the fastest connection I can get from ATT's UVerse. Is there any way to turn off this immediate updating so I can make all of my changes then publish after that? I have been searching through the help files, Apple support, and the web and can't find anything. One poster on this site said his updates don't transfer until he hits the publish icon to the right of the gallery name. That's not how mine works. It automatically publishes at the slightest change. Others seem to say it is automatic for them as it is for me. It really is almost impossible to make lots of small changes to a large gallery (like adding descriptive titles) the way it is now.

This "feature" also makes my nuts. I hate software that does these "automatic" processes, without a way for the user to alter them, or turn them off. I have been trying to change file names in one album that contains a number of images drawn from other albums that have been published to my web gallery. I do not wish the names to be changed in every album, nor in the web galleries published. But it all seems to be automatic. The name change first is applied automatically to the other albums that contain that image, and then automatically changed in every web gallery.
I have posted these comments here: iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback.
I suggest everyone that is concerned with these issues do the same. If we are lucky, Apple will soon update the software. These changes seem so easy to achieve one would think, and they would add a lot of control to the use of the program.

    Album overview
A photo album in iPhoto is just like one you would create with printed photos: It’s a collection of photos you select from your library and arrange in the order you want.
You can create photo albums to:
Focus on a particular subject, such as your favorite nature photos
Group pictures that you want to send to a friend, post on a webpage, or burn to a CD or DVD
Gather a decade of anniversary photos
iPhoto has two kinds of photo albums:
Standard photo albums: You create these albums (B, shown below) by selecting particular photos. You can add new photos by dragging them to the album (or using the Add To button), and you can remove photos at any time. All adding and removing is done manually; iPhoto doesn’t update standard albums automatically as you import new photos.
Smart Albums: iPhoto creates these albums for you, based on criteria your specify. iPhoto then updates Smart Albums (A, shown above) for you as your library changes. For example, you could create a Smart Album containing:
Photos of specific people, such as your family members. As you import new photos, iPhoto uses Faces to detect your family members, and automatically adds new photos of them to the Smart Album (after you’ve confirmed the matches in Faces).
All the photos of your daughter taken on school field trips in third grade. Use Faces (to name your daughter) and keywords (to mark certain photos or events as “field trips”) to help specify the photos you want iPhoto to place in that Smart Album.
Only photos taken with a specific camera, or photos matching other Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) information.
You can make as many albums as you like, and you can include the same photo in several albums without making multiple copies of it.
After you create an album, such as “Australia Adventures,” it appears in your Source list below Albums.
In full-screen view, the album appears as a stack of photos below Albums.
To further organize your library, you can group several albums (along with slideshows and projects) into a folder. For example, you could create a folder containing several years of birthday albums or a collection of albums with photos of your camping trips.
To create a folder, see “Create a folder in the Source list and move items into it” in “Customize the Source list”.
Folders appear only in the Source list, not in full-screen view.
Note: A photo album is different from a photo book, which is a collection of photos you create to get professionally printed and bound. See this topic: Photo book overview.

Hi, I have a macbook pro 17" 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo 2007, will upgrading to Yosemite slow me down or create problems with my Iphone or other app ?

Yes, i do not suggest upgrading right now. There is some software malfunction or glitch that spontaneously shuts down this specific model. I upgraded and it was a pain to downgrade and make my mac usable again.

  • Firfox slowing way down or hanging and task manager has multiple sessions of "plugin-container.exe *32" running.

I'm running Win 7, Firefox 10.0.2 and all my plug-ins are up to date. I'm having issues with Firfox slowing way down or hanging, let say like when going to Youtube or site that just has a picture that uses Flash. I go to task manager and have multiple sessions of “plugin-container.exe *32" running at anywhere from 2,000k to over 300,000k (only one at the larger amount and most at 2m to 8m). I have to kill the multiple processes to get it running right again.

    Hi kb11,
Have you looked at our [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-slow-or-takes-too-long-start performance troubleshooting section]? There is a lot of good information in there that should help.

  • "Installer" using up all my memory and slowing macbook down

"Installer" seems to take up all my memory and slow my macbook right down, anyone know a solution?
Also the "18.68MB" is from the memory clean app showing how much ram is free, Installer seems to just eat it up

There is some adware called Genieo that often comes packaged in installers named "Installer." If you have installed that, you need to force the installer to quit, delete the installer and then follow the Genieo removal instructions here:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/
I would also note that I see µTorrent in your Activity Monitor. Be aware that downloading illegal material through torrents (or other means) is very dangerous behavior, and there has been a significant upsurge recently in adware infections coming through such files. Even a few malware infections as well. Do not download such things.

  • Preloader - slowing things down?

Hello there - hope you're good - thanks for looking at this.
I've been experimenting with 2 different kinds of preloaders,
they both work (internal & external preloaders), both giving
the same kinda results... but both slowing things down a bit.
    Let me explain!
I have 2 swfs, each one about 500k, with some streaming audio
embedded in the timeline, and banks of buttons that hop around the
    timeline to play different sounds.
In a sec i'll post a link to an example page, but let me
explain first what you'll be looking for the first time they load.
The swf on the left (just under the VOICE title) has a
preloader built into the beginning of the movie, which i made
thanks to Lee's "Advanced Flash Preloader" tutorial. I've made sure
there's no data on the first 2 frames (where the preloader is) so
it should load quick. The preloader graphic is just a bar that
    fills from left to right.
The swf on the right (just under the MUSIC title) is an
external preloader called MUSIC2.swf, that preloads MUSIC.swf. This
was made using Lee's "External SWF Preloading" tutorial. The
preloader graphic for this is just a percentage.
With both of them there's still a delay before even showing
the preloader - and then i reckon the actual preloading process is
slowing things down. When i tried other versions of the swf's that
just opened normally, they seemed to load much quicker.
At the moment i'm thinking that the issue of the preloading
graphic not showing straight away is an actual fixable problem, but
the issue of the preloading graphic slowing the preloading is
probably just the way it is?
    Anyway, here's the link...
    http://keepholding.com/examplesinner2.htm
(ignore the fact the functionality of the audio buttons on
the panel on the left is a bit screwey - i haven't fixed that since
i shifted everything along by 2 frames to make the preloader!).
Now my mum has a slow dial-up connection, and she didn't even
get to see either of the preloaders, before she had to go to bed!
Thinking about it, there are some small solo audio swf
buttons further down the page - so may the browser will try and
load those first - even though they're only tiny - maybe THAT is
    the problem?!
Oh by the way, the reason i've used 2 different types of
preloaders is just for experimentation. I plan to use the best one
on both when it's proven to work properly.
Some of the files i've used are in this zip file
    http://keepholding.com/bits.zip
VOICEUNITv2 is the raw FLA file used to make VOICES3.swf
MUSICLOADER is the raw FLA file used to make preloader
    MUSIC2.swf, which preloads MUSIC.swf.
Does any of this make sense?
    Can you help?!
    cheers
    James

Oh, when i say Lee's tutorial, i mean from

  • WAAS slows traffic down

    Hello -
We have WAAS in a test lab and we have configured it using policy-based routing. We are running the standard test (HTTP to get a file), but when we browse to get the file, and click to download it, the transfer on a FastEthernet port starts off at 20k, then falls to nearly zero.
If we remove the PBR, the file (70 MB) tranfers very quickly. There are only two hosts on this testbed.
The WAAS is showing "compression" and such for HTTP.
    Please advise! : )

It's just staged right now, so it's all in one room with FastEthernet connecting them, so the latency is probably 1 - 2 ms. We are mostly just testing policies and stuffs right now.
I was planning on putting some rate-limiting between the routers to slow traffic down to see the WAAS improvement. You think I need this now?
I just found it kinda hard to believe that even with 100 MB between the routers, that the WAAS would slow traffic down to as low a 1k sometimes.
Thanks for the help!!! : )
