IMovie sound track
On iMovie, can you play a live music recording keep the sound track playing and add other visuals?
Thanks
Hello, songthief!
Welcome to the discussions!
What format was the commercial CD song? Did it play in iMovie?
You might want to re-record it to get it into a form that iDVD will burn. You can do this several ways. Here are two suggestions:
1. Import the song into iTunes, then burn it to a CD. Reimport the song from the CD back into iTunes in AIFF, then import it into your iMovie.
2. Record the song using WireTap Pro and import the AIC file that it creates into your imovie.
Also, one more tip:
Don't send your iMovie to iDVD from WITHIN your iMovie. Close your finished iMovie, open iDVD, create your project and then drag/drop your iMovie into iDVD's main screen. You will find your movie in 'Media' ->'Movies.' This prevents double rendering of your clips, 'jaggies' in your final burned DVD and other problems.

IMove sound track won't go away!
I created a soundtrack in garageband 11, imported it to iMove 11 then went back to lengthen it slightly. iMovie will NOT recognize the revised soundtrack! I have deleted the old one and reimported the new one to iTunes and then into iMove but the old track will not go away. Please tell me what to do.
If you go to the Protect website, can you still locate the Z10?
Try leaving the battery out for a full five minutes and reinsert.

Can you be a bit more specific as to what you are wanting to do?
Are you certain that you clicked on the audio clip to highlight it before trying to alter it?

From good iMovie to iDVD sound track not playing (let us try this again!)
There was an earlier problem of this posted here...the question was marked ANSWERED...but didn't solve anything for most of us that replied. So let us take it out for another spin...
Created in iMovie...works perfect in iMovie 6...then SHARE with iDVD. Attempting to preview...no sound track is played/heard.
Can someone let us know what is going on...how to fix...and why we users are forced to be beta-testers for RELEASED software? This problem seem like something that SHOULD have been found, tested and corrected by release date.
This product is wasting a lot of user's time and dvd discs.
ThanksThis product is wasting a lot of user's time and dvd discs.
Well I can help you stop wasting disks, at least! Use "Save as Disk Image" to encode the project and create a ".img" file. You can test the final encoding by mounting the .img file and playing it with DVD player in your applications folder. If this has sound, then burn it with Disk Utility.
iMovie will sometimes tolerate both 12 bit and 16 bit audio. iDVD won't - it must have 16 bit audio. Check the settings on your camcorder with the problem DV tape in it. If it is 12 bit audio, there are fixes listed here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61636
http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1001.shtml
http://danslagle.dvmix.com/mac/iMovie/audio/1000.shtml
I know you say it plays fine in iMovie, but these fixes sometimes help files that work in iMovie but don't work right in iDVD.
If none of this applies, please let us know, and as F Shippey said, let Apple know too!

I can't export my video which contains only photos, sound tracks nor play it in fullscreen iMovie it shuts down. And now my whole file won't open at all it'll open with nothing inside ??
I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.

Can I transfer my files to the apple movie "pro" system instead? I forget what its proper name is. With that programme like the old imovie of '05 approximately, you can grab the sound track within a clip and manipulate its volume up or down.
I need to do that to compensate for the coder problems in imovie 09 and 11 soundtracks.ecivres wrote:
....you can grab the sound track within a clip and manipulate its volume up or down...
This can be done quite easily in iMovie '11.
Firstly, click on the waveform icon at the bottom right of iMovie's window (also at the lower right of the Project window) - shown here:
You will see the volume level line within the waveform. For the section you wish to lower the volume, click and drag across the waveform so that it is highlighted with a yellow border. Now you can drag the volume line up and down. See the following example, showing the different volume levels:
TIP: Set the thumbnail slider (next to the waveform icon) to half a second - this will show more detail in the waveform, with each thumbnail representing half a second of video.

"Newborn" sound track in iMovie - what song is it?
The iMovie sound effects include one called "Newborn".
It's a jazz piano arrangement of some old standard, I think. But what is the song?
I'm wondering if "Newborn" refers to Phineas Newborn, though the piece doesn't seem to be in his style.
Here's a youTube video with the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s1LaIbBFvM
Thanks!
HalThe D. D. Hanke song is based on the Newborn track. I have found a couple of other instances of this.
Shine Your Light seems unrelated, I agree.
But, just to clarify, I am trying to identify the song being played in the Newborn track itself. The Newborn track is all jazz piano, so you can't tell what song it is unless you happen to recognize the tune. I am guessing from the style that it is a song written between say 1920 and 1960.
Is there some way to ask Apple who is playing the Newborn track? Someone must know that, because Apple bought the rights from that person.
Thanks!

IMovie HD doesn't recognize sound track from MPEG1 files
My camera creates MPEG1 files which IMovie HD doesn't recognize the sound track. The Apple Store tech told me to purchase Quicktime Pro & save my files as MPEG4. After doing so IMovie finds no audio source.
Also I tried to reinstall IMovie (not HD) which worked fine, but it won't reinstall.
What to do?no, QT can not 'demuxx' ...
and avoid re-installs, MacOsX is not Windows.. ;))
simply download and use for free

Mpeg Streamclip
open your mpeg1, choose 'dv stream' as export option.. done. -
IMovie backking Sound tracks to import
A few years agao, when I used to make lots of iMovies, there used to be a page on the Apple site where you could download sound tracks that were good for home movies. Does that page still exist? If not, where else can I download background music for free?
Thanks youUi!

I loose both sound tracks of the last chapter when burning a movie to a disc in iDVD
I loose both sound tracks in the last chapter when I burn a project to a disc in iDVD. The sound tracks are there if I play the movie in iDVD before burning to disc, but as soon as I try turn burn to disc the original sound track & the sound track imported from iTunes disappears in the majority of the last chapter.
I'am using the latest version of iMovie & IDVD. The project in iDVD is listed as 96 minutes & 3.9GB & I'am using an LG single sided DVD 120 Min 4.7GB
Any help will be appreciated.
Mike (Australia)Hi
May be something here.
No audio on DVD disc.
Most common origin.
1. Imported audio from iTunes.
• In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
• Use this in Your movie project
2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
(iM’08 & 09)
3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
Minuscular - - 176x144
Mobile - - - - - 480x360
Medium - - - - 640x480
Large - - - - - - 720x540 960x540
HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
• Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
Before burning the DVD.
• Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
• Double click on the .img file
• Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
• In iDVD 08 - or - 09
• Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
• OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

When burning a completed movie in idvd the whole sound track of the last chapter disappears
When burning a completed movie in idvd the whole sound track of the last chapter disappears. When I play the whole movie in iDVD before burning to disc both the sound tracks are their, but when burnt to a DVD the two sound tracks disappear half way through the last chapter, can any one help please.
Mike,
There is an iMovie forum, please click the link and repost your question. I suspect the iMovie guru's may be able to help you out. -
How to move sound track with video to another drive
If I want to work on a project on another Mac, I copy the iMovie Events and Projects folders to a portable drive, then drag them into the correct folders of the other Mac. (Not sure if this is the best way, but it works.) But the sound track is missing if I don't have the same songs in that Mac's iTunes. What's the best way to keep the song with the project when I transfer to another Mac?
I tried the Consolidate command, and I see how it works, copying the events or clips to another >drive. But how does the music track get transferred? I don't see it in the copied folder.
If you followed the instructions, the music track is there. It is probably in the Project file. If you right click on the RCPROJECT file, select "Show Package Contents" and see if you can spot it.
If I consolidate from one computer to a portable drive, what happens when I plug the portable >drive into another computer? Does iMovie just see the project and events on the external drive? Or >do I have to drag them to the new computer's drive? What about the music tracks? Do I have to >import them into the other computer's iTunes?
Yes, iMovie sees the external drive, and you can work on your movie. If you prefer, you could drag the RCPROJECT file to the Movies/iMovie Events Folder and then run the Consolidate command again to move everything to the new computer, but you really don't need to. It should work fine on the external drive.
The external drive must be formatted as Mac OX Extended (journaled) -
Fade out sound track in Keynote...how?
I am taking keynote presentations and exporting them to quicktime...everything works as expected. The only issue is the sound track. It simply abrupty ends at the end of the keynote/quicktime movie. Is there a way to fade it out (i.e. take the volume to zero?)?
I am currently loading the quicktime movie into iMovie and doing that, but it is very cumbersome. Would be much better to do it in Keynote.
Thanks
bobNo audio controls as such just what's in the QT inspector. Rather than doing it in imovie post, you could fade it in Garageband or other audio app pre-Keynote construction.
Good build suggestion though:

Handling Music/Sound Tracks
I have 2 questions regarding the handling of music/sound tracks:
1) I understand that iMovie automatically creates a 1 second cross-fade between consecutive music tracks. Is there a way to extend this (possibly to 3 or 4 seconds)?
2) Is there a way to "layer" tracks in iMovie? For example, I'd like to lay down a piece of music and then add a sound effect over top of it, so that both would be audible at the same time?
Thanks!1) I understand that iMovie automatically creates a 1 second cross-fade between consecutive music >tracks. Is there a way to extend this (possibly to 3 or 4 seconds)?
You can certainly do longer fades. Set the Fade to manual and move the slider to (up to) 2 seconds.
It is also quite easy to do a longer cross fade. You just overlap the tracks. To see how, see the video below.

Yes, this is very easy to do. Just drag and drop. [This video tutorial might be the best way to explain.|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/imovie08.html#audioclips]

Can I import and play just the sound track from a video?
I downloaded some video clips with sound and imported them as QT videos into i-tunes - no problem. But how can I now play just the sound track and import it into a music playlist so I can play it on my Ipod in the car? (Or if I put the video on my Ipod - it's a sound only one, not a video one - will it just play the sound track?)
ThanksWithout knowing anything about the nature of the video files you're talking about, all I can say is that if they contain audio, you can extract it. The process may not be lossless, unless you extract the audio and convert it to Apple Lossless, WAV or AIFF. If your iPod is an older one, you may be limited in the formats you can play.
For a simple way to extract the audio only, you can use the Streaming/Exporting Wizard in VLC. You can also, depending on the format of the source movie, export audio with Toast or even iMovie to formats compatible with iPods.
