IMovie stopped importing video - Why?

I started importing from a Sony VCR mini DV camera using a FireWire 800/400 Cable 9/4 as recommended by Apple staff.
It started importing a video (worked just fine) but stopped when I plugged the camera into a mains supply (probably should've plugged it in beforehand, I know). Now it won't recognise the film on the tape at all despite closing down, unplugging the camera, restarting my iMac.......
What am I doing wrong please?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your camera may not work with your Mac, contrary to what the store employee said. but don't take my word for it. Instead, contact Sony to see whether you can get help from them. Good Luck!

  • Why does iMovie stop importing my tape from the camcorder even though it says it is still importing?

Why does iMovie stop importing my tape from the camcorder even though it says it is still importing?

It's difficult to be sure without doing some network packet sniffing, but if it were another app syncing, it would be an awful coincidence, since it seems to happen only while I'm in Reminders.app -- as soon as I click the home button and go back to the home screen, it stops; when I launch Reminders again, it starts again.
Moreover, it happens when I am not in the house, which rules out iTunes syncing.
Note that it's not the syncing spinner (i.e. two arrows chasing each other in a circle) -- it's the data access spinner (like the wait spinner in many apps and the apple.com search box).

  • Can i connect a Samsung VP-D381 to iMovie to import videos?

I have recently bought a Samsung VP-D381 Mini DV camcorder, and have just tried to connect it to iMovie to import a video that i have just recorded, only to find that Samsung do not have any software or drivers for the Apple OS...
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how i could get this to work?
    Thanks

    Hello,
(I posted the same answer to a similar thread)
I have the same camcorder and same issue, though with iMovie '09.
Symptoms on my Samsung VP-D381 are :
I can import when in Camera mode (live capture)
I cannot import what has been recorded on tape (import window stays blue)
I can forward and rewind and stop.
I found a trick I hope will be useful for you :
    open iMovie.
without connecting it yet, put your Panasonic on "Play".
when video plays, plug the DV cable in.
iMovie opens the video import window and then you should see the tape playing.
press the "Import" button to capture the DV stream.
Let me know if you find other ways to get it to work. I'm quite frustrated Samsung cannot make a DV camcorder work with iMovie, 14 years after DV went out!

  • IMovie stops importing after 7 seconds or so

I am trying to import some video that is being passed thru my digital camcorder from a dvd. I have done this before several months ago but today it stops importing after about 7 seconds. I don't have FileVault turned on so that isn't the problem. Everything looks fine on my camcorder screen but iMovie just stops importing. HELP! Any ideas? Thanks!

Well, guess what? I took the minidv tape out and now it has decided to work.

  • IMovie Stops Importing at Break in 8mm/VHS Tape

    Hello:
I am using iMovie 11 with a Grass Valley ADVC-300 to import old (20+ years in some cases) VHS and 8mm tapes - primarily old home movies. My problem is that whenever there is a break in the tape where the video signal ends (i.e the camera was stopped and recording started at a later point in the tape) iMovie loses the signal from the ACVC-300 and it stops importing.
The converter works very well for the tapes I have tried so far, but I would like to be able to import an entire tape without having to catch every break that occurs and avoid sitting at the computer while the tape is importing. I would like to be able to keep importing regardless of the breaks, and then edit these out as necessary when the entire tape is imported. I have no drop outs when a video signal is present.
FYI - I have iMovieHD and tried importing with it as well, with similar results. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also am having the identical problem while using the ADVC - 300. I am using manual mode which should just keep recording through breaks but doesn't. If you find an answer please post here and I will do likewise.
    Thanks.

  • How to stop imported video from looping?

I imported a very short video clip to my timeline. I want it to play only once. Then the last frame of the video should stay visible and static, as a background. And I want to start my animation then; after the video plays once. How do I achieve this? Right now, when I export as SWF, only video plays and loops. It doesn't even show anything after that's on the timeline after the video...
    Thanks

there's no enough info to justify a tutorial.
    click insert>new symbol>movieclip>ok.  click file>import>import video>tick on your computer>click browse>navigate to your flv>click ok>tick embed flv in swf and timeline>next>next>finish.
add a layer to the timeline that contains your video and, add a keyframe to the last frame of the layer and, in the actions panel, add: stop()
after creating a movieclip (eg, flv_mc) with your video on the movieclip's timeline, drag the movieclip (flv_mc) from the library panel to your main timeline.

  • IMovie not importing videos from iPhoto

I am trying to import videos from iPhoto into iMovie. It is not bringing in ( i.e. creating thumbnails for) anything after Dec 2010. The videos all show up in iPhoto and they were shot with an iPhone. Is there a date range set somewhere that I need to change. I can not even get them if I specifically try and import them one at a time through File-Import-Movies. When I try this method it lets me select the videos, but they still don't show up in my video thumbnails. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Other info:
    OSX 10.8.3 on a 2012 iMac
    iMovie 11 9.0.8

I open up iMovie and it then imports movies from iPhoto. The problem is it is missing several videos. When I select import video it imports those missing files, so I know it's not a file format issue... Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to get ALL my videos into iMovie?
iPhoto will import any file that can be played in the QT Player (i.e., that is "playback" compatible). On the other hand, iMovie '08 will only import files that it can edit -- i.e. that are "edit" compatible. (Would you really want to waste your time importing files only to find that you can't do anything with them once they are "in" the application?) Your solution is to convert non-edit compatible files to compression formats that are editable -- primarily DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264. You should also note that both audio and video content must be edit compatible. For instance, many AVI files contain M-JPEG video which can be edited along with ADPCM audio which cannot be edited and so such files will not import.

  • Adobe premiere stopped importing video

I haven't used my Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for several months. I used it the other day to capture video and then when I tried to import it into a new project it I saw no indication that it actually did it. The screen format seems to look different too with only one monitor to view the video and not two. Nothing shows up on the left side bar with the imported video although it seems to go through the action of importing without any notices coming up to say that it isn't working. Has anyone had this happen or know how to resolve the issue? I have some projects I really need to edit and I can't get it working. Thanks so much!

You need to create a sequence; the Timeline panel is what hold a sequence, but it's not the sequence itself. Create a new sequence by going to File > New > Sequence and choosing a preset that matches your footage, or by dragging one of your footage items to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project Panel. That process will create a new sequence that matches your footage parameters and will drop the clip into it; you can add other clips and edit as you like then.

  • IMovie stops importing -- recent problem

Until recently I have had no problem downloading to iMovie from my Sony miniDV cassette camera. I have had the camera checked & run a head cleaner cycle. The problem now is that the movie imports for a short time and quits. I have also run diagnostics on my G5 Mac OSX 10.4.9 and am told there are no problems there. I believe it is a software problem because the movie plays in the camera. Suggestions?

Turns out after 3 hours of tech support with 3 different companies involved, some say its a Firewire conflict between the camcorder and the drive.
BUT that does NOT explain why there were NO conflicts
and the camcorder connected perfectly for two years - then with a new firewire drive, perfectly for a week - 2 hours of footage was uploaded
    then suddenly this conflict. hmm
So far there is only one option i found, if you have a drive that uses firewire, try USB for the drive and see if you can use the camcorder via firewire. it worked here.
however.. one big negative thing though, USB is very slow for editing,
infact its the actual reason i got this firewire drive
its fine for backup drives, but video need a fast drive
    anyone see a solution?

  • URGENT iMovie not importing video

    Hi there,
I have a really urgent iMovie project I need to have completed by Monday, however I am having extreme difficulty importing my last video file for some reason. I am uploading footage from a SONY HD HANDYCAM (it says HDR-SR11) and I am using iMovie '09. Very confused as have always been able to upload footage from the camcorder - in fact did it yesterday with no troubles - but when I go to import this one clip (12mins), it goes through the process of 'importing', however no actual footage/ thumbnails is uploaded on the iMovie screen. I have selected to view 'All Clips' so that is not a problem. I have also deleted all events/projects and tried again but that one video still will not import.
When I go into Finder I can see the clips there except they cannot be opened although they are from the exact same camera as the rest. I have also tried on another Mac computer but with the same result. I cannot import to iPhoto, nor does it let me export using the free version of MPEG-2 converter.
I am using the camera to computer USB cable by the way.
I really, really appreciate any help or advice in advance, and apologise if this is a trivial problem but can't seem to find any answers in the hours I have spent on it, nor online.
    Cheers,
    Norrista

    Hi Bengt W,
Thank you so much for your imput. I have tried the option you said about creating a new account, however that did not change anything.
In regards to your question about space - I assume I can just click Inspector on my iMac image - it says there are 7.94 GB free. And when I was 'importing' this video file into iMovie it said there was 2 hours 57 mins available which I thought would be fine as the clip is only 12 mins.
I really appreciate any further advice you can give me because I'm coming to the deadline now and it isn't something I can just go out and shoot again unfortunately.
And as a side note, I have tried selecting the Camera Archive option, but iMovie does not then allow me to import the files afterwards.
    Many thanks again,
    Norrista

  • IMovie 10 import video flashes

Novice iMovie user here needing some help.   I'm using iMovie 10.
I've imported some video clips into iMovie, but when play them back, they now have like a repetitive flashing or jump about every 1/2 second.
Playback the same clip with QuickTime and no problem.
Any ideas on cause and what I can do to correct?

    Greetings kenfused,
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to change the date and time on some events. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • IMovie and Importing video AVCHD from the Canon High-Definition HG10

iMovie 08 does not let me import high definition video (AVCHD) from the Canon HG10 camcorder. Could you let me know how I can do this or what program can do it? iMovie 08 and the Mac do not recognize the high definition video (AVCHD). Thanks for your assistance. Best, Joe

Your camera is on the supported list, and if you will search these forums, you will see that many people are using it.
iMovie recognizes AVCHD, but only from a supported and connected camcorder.
If you prefer not to import from your camcorder, you can buy a program called Voltaic. It takes about 12x realtime to convert AVCHD to an editable format. You can import directly from your camera much quicker.

  • I can't get Imovie to import video edited with quicktime...any suggestions

I use imovie often. I edited some video with quicktime (basically just shortening clips). Imovie will not import the files. Any help with this would be really appreciated since there's a heap of it.
    Thanks
    Windsor

You may have exported from QuickTime in a format not recognized by iMovie. Try converting them using the free app MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 - available here: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
In MPEG Streamclip, convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) or H.264 format. Both should import to iMovie '11 with no trouble. In iMovie's menu select File>Import>Movies.

  • IMovie not importing video

    Hi,
I've just bought iMove 08 (7.1) as part of the iLife suite. I tried to import some footage from my Sony HDR-HC1E 1080i video camera via a firewire cable through the ilink port and nothing happens when you get the import window up. You seem to have got an initial result - I wonder what's happening here? Perhaps someone out there can help?

    Hi
Well, I'm no help, but I am having the same problem so please someone out there...help!!
