Imovie storage issues

Alright, I'm undertaking a HUGE imovie project. I've got 37 or so 2-hour Hi-8 tapes from my camera. I've already got 10 or so on my computer in imovie, formatted. After I edit them in imovie, I export them to idvd to burn them onto dvd's. Now, I"ve noticed that the imovie files are around 25 gig a file. (25G for 2 hours or so of movie - give or take a few minutes)
Is there a way I can compress or store these files so I don't have to buy an external HD?
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Both DVD's and especially CD's are a terrible choice to backup movie files because they are too slow and too small...What you do't want as well is to rely on the DVD as an archive - it is compressed MPEG-2 and is lossy and hard to re-edit. $5 DV tapes are a great digital format to save forever.
There's different points of view about these issues, so I'll add a few cents.
1. We don't think we can assume tapes will "last forever" any more than any other storage medium. (If pressed, I think I'd put my money on DVDs outlasting tapes, but it's just a guess.)
2. In ten to twenty years, I suspect we will still have drives available that can play DVDs but not camcorders that can play tapes. That may make it impossible to exercise tapes, re-record them, or capture them to a computer.
3. DVDs are cheap and easy to use. At less than 50 cents per disk for 4+GB, they are actually cheaper than tapes. And backup software like Retrospect makes archiving easy too. You just insert the disks when asked.
When archiving data files, I like that there are no iMovie export issues. (I never entirely trust an export to tape until I play it from start to finish.)
4. There's nothing inherently lossy about DVDs. Yes, an MPEG-2 DVDs created by iDVD is compressed so it's lossy, but a backup of an iMovie HD project as data files to a DVD suffers no loss of quality.
5. I tend to use multiple backup media. Drives, tapes, MPEG-2 DVDs and data file DVDs. Multiple copies of each, actually. But I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. I get uncomfortable putting all my backups in one basket.
Unfortunately, there is no one ideal archive solution. No medium lasts forever, no media hardware lasts forever, and there's no guarantee the software we use to create/retrieve an archive -- or for that matter play the iMovie project or the QuickTime movie -- will run in Mac OS XXV.
Most likely our data storage media will change dramatically in twenty years. Soon all our iMovie projects will probably fit on the head of a pin. Hopefully the archive solution we adopt today won't cause us to jab our fingers with the pin.

    /oracrs          2 Gb          OCFS2 File system

I’ve faced an issue recently related to EMC storage.
The /orasoft partition displays 1.4 Gb space available using df command.
With both nodes sharing the common Oracle Home (/orasoft/db_1), when ever I try to touch a file I get an error as No Space left on device. I’m unable to start any service with the same reason.
    Is this setup correct ??
Can anyone help me with this storage issue ??

Need a clarification here...what do you mean by "Storage System"...do you mean a server/node or the SAN storage system. If you are referring to a server/node's local storage, then it would NOT be possible for use by RAC, since the disk space has to be shared among the nodes.
Here is what you can do:
    - Create two partitions/devices (for example Disk_1 and Disk_2) in the SAN storage
    - Create a ASM disk group which would mirror Disk_1 to Disk_2.
Again, please note that the partitions have to be visible and be accessible read/write from both the nodes/servers.

    Hi,
If you create a new diskgroup you may be to add the same diskgroup to parameter file or spfile and which will be needing down time.
sugestion: Instead of creating new diskgroup you should to add disk to existing group.if you add asm disk to existing group your all problem will be solved and Oracle itself will be managing all.And than i am sure no need to add entry in the parameter or spfile like +db_create_file_dest=.....

  • ICloud storage issue; Restoring iPhone calendar from iMac after accidental iCloud deletion

I set up iCloud to back up calendars and contacts and for find my phone.  Initially, it seemed to work alright.  Then I got messages on iPhone that there wasn't enough iCloud storage, even though the storage tab showed that I had used none of my iCloud storage at all.  So I turned off iCloud/contacts.   In iTunes I switched back from iCloud backup to backup from my iMac.
Later I got the same message about not enough room in iCloud even though only calendars involved.  So I truned off iCloud/calendar on my iPhone and was given the choice of keeping the calendars from the iCloud or deleting them (a foolish choice without a failsafe!!!).  I clumsily and mistakenly hit delete.  My calendars have most recently been synced with my new iMac and appear on the iMac and should also be in TM.  But right now there is no data in my iPhone calendar.
When i go to calendars within the iiphone calendar there is a check next to Calender under "from MY Mac" and no reference to iCloud.  (There are no separate calendars for me, my wife, and joint.  Does this mean somehow these calendars have been merged because of iCloud?)
I don't want to do another sync until I can make sure that the sync with the iMac will resotre the calendar(s) to the iPnone.  How do I do this?
Do I have to do anything on the iMac before I try a sync?
How do I avoid these problems in the future?  The only thing I really would like from iCloud is "find my phone".  How do I keep that capability without backing up or su=yncing otherwise anything through iCloud?
    Is iCloud still Beta?

Apple walked me through this and helped me revert to backing up on my iMac, using iCloud only for find my iPhone and iMac.  The process, however, is not straightforward and what the respective mac and iPhone support people (yes, they have that kind of specialization) led me through was clearer, if somewhat convoluted, than any instructions on Apple's support or community pages.
Since my main concern was not losing my calendar and contacts information, the key was saving that, via export, to my desktop.  Sorry I didn't write down all the other steps - but I see that as Apple's job.  Back in the days of the IIC, Apple's manual was a model of clarity and completeness at the same time.
Bottom line is while my immediate concerns were resolved, the underlying iCloud storage issue was not.  On my iPhone, I was being told that my attempts to backup to the iCloud failed because I didn't have enough storage, even though I determined almost none of my alloted space was used.  This issue is not helped by the multiplicity of settings relating to iCloud, or the interfaces (such as the iCloud on the iMac through Mavericks) which present a screen of icons without additional information.
For my purposes, iCloud remains Beta.

I want to download a film off my cloud to my ipad but it iTunes says there are storage issues. I've deleted things and have well above the GB I need to download the entire film (as confirmed by 'usage') but it still says I haven't enough memory... It's driving me mad! Any tips?

Sorry. Posted too soon.  Found the answer elsewhere on this site.

  • Ios 8.2 storage issue

I have an iPhone 5s 16GB. Ever since I updated to ios 8.2, I have had random storage issues. One day after updating I received a message "storage almost full".  30 seconds later another message that my storage was full. Shut off my phone and did a hard reset. No change. Started to delete pictures, videos and apps. Available storage began to increase. After all of this it reported I had 1G available. Phone was good for about 6 hours. Noticed storage was decreasing by the hour and was down to 324 Mb. Deleted almost all my apps. Storage showed 1.3 Gb. Thought problem was solved. Noticed last night storage was 2.0 GB. Thought this was weird. This morning back to square one 0 bytes available. Apple needs to get it together with this update!!  I've read several other post on this forum with exactly the same issue. Deleted a few more apps this morning. 116mb free at this time, but I don't expect it to last.
Wanted to start a new thread with this problem.

You don't have enough physical storage space on the device for the update to take place. The process can use ~6 -~7 GB of storage space. You can possibly free up the required space by deleting apps and other data. The easiest way to do the update with all of the deleting required is to update the device using iTunes & your syncing PC. No additional storage space is required on the device when updating through iTunes.
Beforehand though, you should delete the update residing on your device under Settings/Usage, then under the Starge heading: Manage Storage. A list of installed apps will be displayed here. You can delete the update by finding it in the list (it should be near the top since they are sorted by size, largest first), tapping it, then tapping the red Delete App button.
EDIT: BTW, after an update, there's no way to revert back to the previous version. If you don't have the required space on the device for the process, the update will simply not install.

  • Storage issue and iPhoto

My mac is about 7 years old. I am trying to export a slideshow from iPhoto. It says that I do not have enough room. I have cleared things form my Mac and had 20gb of storage left. The slideshow did not work.  I deleted any files that went along with that slideshow.  Now it says that I have zero storage left.  My other category in storage went from 142 gb used to 163 used after the attempt to make the slideshow.
I don't know what iPhoto did and I can't find whatever went into the other file.  This is frustrating.  I cleared a lot of my mac and still no storage.
Any ideas of how to clear more off or where the extra "other storage" came from?
thank you, I hope this makes sense.

Wow, I guess I left out a lot of info. Sorry, I don't know my mac that well I guess.  I tried to find out more info.
I believe I just don't have enough free space available. I tried deleting movies and large files of of the mac to free up some space. I had 20GB free and after attempting to make the slide show (which didn't work) I had 0 gb.
I was trying to put small videos from my camera into the slideshow, about 100 slides.  I was trying to export it but the box that came up showing it's progress seemed to stall. I have been successful in creating a still picture slideshow of about 50 slides using the same option of exporting. I don't know what movie size I was trying to export to, I do know it wasn't the HD version.  I have tried creating this slideshow several times and at one point it said that I did not have enough storage left. So that's why I tried deleting larger files and tried again.
I have been having issues with the computer stating disk space almost full and get the spinning wheel more often.  I did not load or install any recent updates. However my son did put some minecraft things on it.
I have been successful before in adding short videos from my camera into iMovie, but was unsuccessful this time, so I was attempting to use iPhoto to make the slideshow.
    I have a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Operating OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
Iphoto version 9.6. I believe it is a managed library, I didn't see a referenced library option.
I think it may be time for a new computer.  Thanks for your time.

  • IMovie Storage Needs

I have a client who is currently in the process of taking all of his HI8, MiniDV, and VHS home movies, and converting them to DVD. When he finishes the project he wants to be able to save 3 files (iMovie Project, iDVD Project, and the DVD image), which is about 30 GB per movie. He has over 100 movies, and needs storage to meet his needs. He is currently looking at an external Firewire 800 drive to act as a Data Warehouse, and still use the internal 400 GB as the scratch disk. Would it be more advantageous to look at network attached storage, and is there something that is gigabit capable, and has over 4 TB?
    Thanks

I like WiebeTech's ComboDock which allows me to treat big (I have currently two 250GB DeskStars) bare ATA drives as large floppies.
    http://www.wiebetech.com/products.php#drivedockproducts
I export selected clips in <9 min 27 second chunks as .dv streams with names like 20050828-20050829.dv, 20050829-20050829.dv etc (duplicate filenames have a, b, c, etc suffixes. I then archive them to the ATA drives. I also export them to two identical D8 tapes and burn a 65 minute DVD.
I settled for the 9:27 size in iMovie 4 and have continued so in iMovie 5 because handling very big clips isn't practical (I haven't noticed any audio sync issues with big clips, though).
My strategy archives flattened .dv but I use only minimal titles and transitions in that material so flattening doesn't matter much. iMovie HD projects tend to be big (because of nondesructive editing feature) so I don't archive them. Nor do I archive original footage (I very minimally edit some very important footage so it is almost original). Sometimes I do miss original footage but I have to draw the line somewhere or else I would have my closets full of tapes...
I think it may be overkill to archive the iDVD project -- what does s/he do with that? Re-author the menus etc? The DVD image and the burned DVD are identical but in a different format so it may be a good idea to have them both so the other acts as a backup.

  • IMovie storage quandary??

To the video and storage gods - On the 1.5TB internal HD on my iMac, I only have 300GB left. Most of that space is taken up my my massive iPhoto and iTunes libraries. Most of the iMovie imported footage is sitting up on my NAS now (I pulled it off of an external drive because I wanted to centralize it). On the 5TB of NAS (HP Mediasmart 490EX WHS server actually) space I have, I have about 2.5TB remaining. I dumped all of the imported HDV tape video I had (converted and imported them all as iMovie events). I now have an AVCHD camcorder (Canon HFS100) for about 9 months now, and I have been archiving a copy of the SD card up to the same NAS as well (RAID protection is on where I drop the SD archive, since unlike the HDV footage, I obviously dont have a tape backup). I realized I should probably instead of doing a card archive up to the NAS, be doing an import in full quality as an iMovie event (or should I)? I'm confused about several things and hoping someone who understands how iMovie and NAS works can help.
    1. Right now, when I launch iMovie, and have the NAS mounted, every time, it wants to "Optimize" the video, which takes over 10 minutes...quite a pain. Any way around this.
    2. Although I am on a Gigabit wired ethernet to the NAS, the video playback from those mounted events is still choppy...I dont understand that. Is that normal??
    3. Would I be better off scrapping the NAS altogether and going with a locally attached Drobo? A Drobo FS (networked version) would leave me with the same issues as I'm dealing with now, wouldn't it?
    4. I'm wondering how you guys manage your flow of video import on tapeless HD cams or AVCHD. Do you just get a copy of the card, or are you importing video as you shoot it (I think importing it takes up a signicant amount more space, does it not)?
    5. Finally - when you do import, are you bringing it in as "Large" or "Full"? I almost hate to think about "Large" because it seems to defeat the purpose of having such a high resolution cam to begin with...even though it looks great.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated...whether on all 5 questions or 1!!

I will separate my answer into primary storage and backup storage.
Primary storage are my working files. I have all my iMovie Events for DV, VHS, AVCHD, 8MM, etc. on line. It is a great convenience of iMovie to have all your Events available to any movie. I also keep archive copies of the SDHC card, so I can reimport if I ever need to. All my primary storage is local (Firewire 800). With disk space costing less than 10 cents a gigabyte, I am comfortable with the cost.
All this fits on less than 4TB. There is no thumbnail generation on startup.
For backup, I keep all my DV events, all my VHS events all my 8MM events stored, because they don't take up much room. Even though I still have the original tapes, I do not want to ever have to import them again. For AVCHD, I back up only the archive copy, not the AIC Events.
For backup, I have 2 bootable copies of my startup disk through SuperDuper, so I always have one from last night and one from the night before. I then keep offsite copies of the contents of my external drives, except for the AIC events.

  • Storage Issues. Please help.

    Hi.
I read the manual and did everything (to my knowledge) and spent 2 days researching this but cannot locate an answer. I sure hope it is something that is right in front of me that I am missing somehow!  Please see if you can help me. I am the only MAC user in the family, so I have nobody to ask. Thanks.
Ok, I personally have an iPhone, and iPad2 and iPad4 all on my same Apple ID. (that is what you are to do, right? that way your apps purchased can be shared on all those devices and you don't have to purchase new, right?) (The iPod just croaked w/ white screen.)
Ok, just this Friday 2/8, my iCloud told me the "cloud is full" to manage it.  Ok, so I go to manage it, but everything I do I notice does ZERO to release the space.  I worked two days releasing tons of space and nada. The icloud didn't move from full position. I did turn on and off my devices. I signed out of the iMac cloud.
    I see this:
    On my iPad (etc):
    TTL Storage 5.0GB
    AVAIL 281mb
    So I go to "manage"....
for "Docs and Data" it ONLY shows 2 apps I never use (I do use notebook apps but nothing else shows here but these two apps):
    Writers App 12.5kb
    Tweed 0.1kb
Then, below that it shows (in my opinion the culprit!):
    MAIL 4.7GB
Soooo, I went to iCloud on my iPad and iMac (took turns) and DELETED IT ALL TO ZERO. Zero in inbox. Zero in sent. Zero in Trash. It is a hollow trash can!
I signed out of the iMac icloud.
I come back and my "manage" area looks EXACTLY the same as stated above.  The mail still shows at 4.7GB.  It did not drop!!!  I had other "accounts" of emails originally on my iPad to check, as it is a big convenience to go to mail and choose the account and it is right there, but I deleted ALL those as well. THE ONLY mail program I have on my iOs is iCloud.  Even on my iMac, I turned it off.
I have NO iWork.  DIdn't purchase that yet.
I have a lot of APPS and at one time under "manage" it LISTED all the apps and I could turn them "on" or "off" for icloud storage.  I turned camera OFF and most all apps EXCEPT notebooks like Noteability, Evernote.  NOW, after deleting all my icloud email, I do NOT see them nor the option to "bring them into the cloud or delete them from iCloud useage"....it ONLY will show Writers App and Tweed (never use them). Not sure where that list went!!
Is there some kind of GLITCH that I am experiencing?  I want my icloud experience.  Is there something I am overlooking?
At one point I changed the settings to back up NOTHING and that FULL icloud did NOT change! And, it still showed the same thing as stated above with mail at 4.7GB.  Also, at one point I did ONE (count 'em) icloud back up on my new iPad4 and I DELETED that since I saw this issue as well. (Plugged into my iMac and used iTunes instead).
I really want to have the cloud experience again.  Is this some virus-y thing or glitch or am I overlooking something?
I would appreciate your help so very much.
    Thanks.
    Kelly

Demo, thank you so much for your concern. I really really appreciated it!  Guess what? It is FIXED! No, I didn't do anything. I left a bit after our last chat to go to Mass.
    WOW!  ***** NEVEMIND *****
FINALLY FIXED ITSELF AFTER 2.5 DAYS OF TIME CONSUMING WORK AND INSPECTION!
Thanks, I am happy to report my iPad is fixed but have to share with you what happened:
I just went to Mass and prayed at Mass for guidance to help find the solution as I am sincerely looking hard and don't have the time (I know, who does, right?).  I prayed that if I couldn't find the issue that someone here would be guided to see this and assist me.
Well, after I get home and feed the family, I go online again to look at my iCloud email box on my iMac and just keep looking...yes, it is completely white and clear. I see nothing that can be "MAIL" of 4.7MB.  So, then, I turned on my iPad once more just thinking I may have to give up on this and just live w/o it. I re-cheked my AVAILABLE storage for the last time and it was at 5.0!!! I was like "WTH?!!" Then, I re-opened my iCloud email on my iMac and it was still blank but just then my iPad AVAIL (storage) dropped to 4.9GB.
So, as it is now, I have 4.9GB available for icloud storage. OUT OF THE BLUE after so many many hours and all nighters for two days. I'm beat.
It seems in this case perhaps it was some weird odd GLITCH??  That the email deleted and space opened only showed up NOW (ie: a big delay from when I cleared it out yesterday night...about 24hours)???
I will leave this here in case:  anyone at Apple sees that there is a problem with this and they are looking for other reported cases...they can update their manuals or update how their product reacts (more real time) OR if someone out there has had similar issues.
Do all you can and refer to the official Apple iPad manual that is located in your reader.(or here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf) and http://help.apple.com/icloud/index.html?localePath=English.lproj#mmd0558ce3
also this Complete iCloud Guide is a good read: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2011/10/the-complete-icloud-guide.html then search the forums and pray. ;-)
I personally think my situation was a delay type glitch where I deleted the over-load and then when I corrected everything, it didn't click in till about 24 hours later...so maybe after you did everything you can, wait 24 hours and see if it self corrects to the right storage amount?  Just putting it out there in case anyone experiences anything like this as it perplexes you when you seem to be following all the "rules".
    Thanks.  Kelly.

  • Mass storage issues (does not play in car on home stereo) after upgrading to V4.5

I am having issues with Mass Storage after upgrading my 8130 to V4.5.  I can no longe hook the device to my home stereo or car stereo to play music. My computer does read the device.  It is not my media card.  I still have my old blackberry: the card shows up on both phones and computers.  It is not my cables as they work with my old phone.  I have also done all the obvious things like pull the battery and play with the media card setting
This guy had the same issue though i never saw resolution:
Any idea is appreciated! After upgrading the device software to version 4.5 earlier this week (BlackBerry 8800 with v4.5.0.69 (platform 2.7.0.72)) as proposed by T-Mobile and RIM Germany something has changed with the behaviour when connecting via USB as a mass storage device:
Using a micro-SD card with 2 GB for some months now as a storage for MP3-Files which can be played with my Blue&Me system in my car. This is some kind of Microsoft Windows mobile platform (Automotive) providing playback of MP3-files etc connected via USB. This was never a problem with the previous software. It behaved as it should. Here is an example of what it previously did (taken from http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...):
"On your Blackberry device, you may or may not first see a message about insufficient current. It just means you can't charge your Blackberry with that PC USB port. Hit the escape key once (on your Blackberry device). You will be prompted a question : do you want to activate USB Mass Storage Mode. You can answer YES or NO. Answer YES."
The message about insufficient current is important here because the Blue&Me system does not provide the current as proposed by USB-standards. Anyway after clicking this message/warning away the Blue&Me would recognize the mass storage and start playback.
After upgrading to v4.5 there is no warning about current any more and the mass storage can't be recognized. I've checked both components: The B&M works fine with any other USB-devices connected, and the BB works fine with Windows after connecting via USB (presumably because there is enough current!). All standard settings in Options/Media card for enabling mass storage have been tested but without success.
Hopefully someone whose genius far exceeds mine will help me with this.  Thank You.

I have exactly the same issue with my car stereo equiped with USB and my 8130 device. OS 4.3 works fine (and displays the "insuficcient current" message) and after upgrading to 4.5 mass storage mode not works anymore. And of course it works with regular desktop/notebook computers. I've made many experiments with different storage cards (now I use SDHC 8G from SanDisk). The card works fine if I attach it through card reader in my car, it even see multiple drives which cardreader creates.
Even more I wrote the small blackberry application in java (i'am professional programmer) and ordered BB keys for $20 to deploy it to device. The program uses the RIM api call Device.requestStorageMode() which in my opinion should turn on storage mode of device. But the result was the same - car audio don't see the mass storage with OS 4.5.
Interesting fact that in OS 4.3 the message about "insufficient current" appears BUT the device CHARGES via this USB without a problem. The same case with OS 4.5 - charging device is possible.
Also, I can't switch to OS 4.3 because it have the serious problem with bluethooth connections - it suddenly lost my handsfree link and its very bad if I get incomming call during driving and my handsfree not work.

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!
