IMovie stuck optimizing, Help!
I am trying to move a 1.83 MB mp4 video file into iMovie. It says its going to take 34 hours to optimize and I want to stop it but I can't while its optimizing. I have two questions first, how do I shut it down/stop iMovie? Second, How do I speed the process of moveing this file into iMovie. Its a film I torrented and I need to use clips of it in a progect. This is the information I have on the file: MPEG-4, 1.82 GB, 1080p, dimensions: 1920-1040.
You can open Activity Monitor. Click on the iMovie Process, and open the Inspector. If you see a number in "recent hangs" that is greater than zero, you are in a hang (or an infinite loop).
At that point, I would force quit, as described above by Elikness.
Or if your mouse is responsive, try /Force Quit/iMovie

have reformatted my Imac using original discs (installed leopard (10.5)) tried to do the software update but it cant download the itunes update and when it gets to the configure update screen after restart for main update, it just gets stuck. HELP!
The configure bar gets about an 1/8 full and then just does nothing. I think its lists the update as combo update? cant remember with out checking.
I have tried to do the disk verify and repair but this has made no difference.
Please let me know what i need to do, I have reformatted the mac just to start over as was clogged with a lot of useless data, I had installed lion (10.7) from the app store previously and now cant seem to find a way to re install lion. I hope I dont need to pay for it again?If you erased your hard drive, you'll need to reinstll OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to access the App store. You won't have to pay for OS X 10.7 Lion again. Did you try booting to the recovery partition by holding the command and r keys down? If that's still there, you can reinstall OS X 10.7 from there.
If you're looking to install the current iTunes, you need OS X 10.6.8 at a minimum.
If you're still trying to update OS X 10.5 Leopard, you can download the combo update from here. Download, use Disk Utility to repair permissions, apply the update, then repair permissions again. That will take you to OS X 10.5.8. -
I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?
I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:

I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake -

First of all, I cannot confirm whether this is for IMovie '11 or not but I had to choose a version to post.
So I usually work in FCP and a client sends me some footage they had shot. I thought I was getting QT files but what I received was a folder that contained two other folders entitled "IMovie Cache" and "IMovie Thumbnails".
Inside the Cache folder is a QT movie called cache and a file called Cache.plist
Inside the Thumbnails folder are a bunch of files starting with the word "clip" and another IMovie Cache folder which contains different Cache and Plist files than the first "IMovie Cache" folder.
Long story short, I cannot open any of these files and do not want to change them because I know IMovie doesn't like stuff to be moved around. When I try to open the cache.mov files in QT is asks to find the "Clip" (are these the thumbnails?) files but when I navigate to the missing files they will not let be select them.
I'm thinking what I am missing is an IMovie Project file. Is there any way to open these files without with or without IMovie?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.This sounds like a a partial iMovie Event folder.
Normally, the Event folder would have the video clips (e.g. DV, Apple Intermediate Codec, h.264, etc.) plus it would have the two folders you mentioned. The thumbnails and cache folders are used in iMovie for skimming and other things, but they reference the real clips.
I would ask your client to provide the rest of the folder. This may be quite large depending on what it is. -
I'm trying to transfer data (docs, emails) from an old G4 iMac running OS 10.3.9 to brand new iMac on 10.8.1 I'm stuck, any help greatly appreciated. (Ethernet or wifi networking are both options if I can figure out how to get the machines to communicate.)

I don't understand why you're buying a Firewire adaptor, since AFAIK both of your computers have Firewire already built in.
All you need is a firewire cable. Connect the Firewire socket on the old machine to the Firewire socket on your new iMac.
Then start the old machine in Target Mode (i.e. by holding down the T key on its keyboard, while it's starting up, until you see the three-legged T icon hopping around the screen of the old machine.)
At that point you will also see a new icon on the screen of your new iMac. This is the hard drive of your old machine. By clicking on it you can navigate through it any way you like, just as you would normally.
Just drag across whatever you want from the old computer to the new one. This will leave everything on the old computer untouched.
- or use Migration Assistant but in my experience, Migration Assistant isn't very reliable and fails to migrate large amounts of stuff. -

Now You lost me (without using a computer?) - Most probably due to that I've not got an iPod Touch but mine is seven Years old - so it most probably work in a totally different way.

I made a imovie and then deleted the video clips from my photo library! But now in imovie it won't let me save it or send it, but it lets me see the finished imovie? Please help!!
That one didn't work either. I don't understand why the clips looked fine in Final Cut Pro and look fine in Quicktime but are distorted in iMovie. I know this is an Apple Forum but for crying out loud, is there ANY editing software that I can get that will just play these things correctly while my Quad is in the shop? I even have all of the clips ready for dropping into a timeline (trimmed in QuickTime Pro) and all I need to do is render it into video and audio TS files and I'm good to go. Otherwise I lose a major client! This is crazy because I own Final Cut Studio but my software is back in the States (I'm in London right now)!
Apple makes great products, and I'm a very loyal customer but this particular problem is gonna sink my business!

My iphone 4 is locked because my son tried to enter the wrong passcode too many times. The solution on apple support says to restore it. But when I try to restore after about 10 minutes of software update it comes up with a message that it cannot continue until you enter the passcode on the phone. But the phone is locked and you cannot enter the passcode. I'm stuck. Help!?
You can still bypass this but deleting all of the contents of your iPhone, but of you previously backed up from iCloud or iTunes you can recover te files as it used to be,
You have to download a copy of iOS software you wish to recover to, you can get from google by typing it, iOS 5.1.1 iPhone 4 etc and find links, once downloaded. it should be IPSW file,
Turn your iPhone into "DFU" mode by holding sleep/wake button and home button at the same time, you can get tutorials from google or YouTube.

I am the new guy in town. Ok here go's. I am wanting to see all my video clips on my ext. firewire hard drive. But for some reson sins iMovie HD saves your work in a projected all I see on my hard drive is the saved projected but I do not see the clips. Now I know on my Powerbook G4 it has just iMovie not iMovie HD it would let me save them as clips so I could use them in any programe I wanted to. Like toast 6. I could just pick clips off my ext. firewire drive and go.Please help.Thanks.Hi computerguy,

I upgraed my iphone to ios 7 but its dosent work like app stor dosent install any brogram or update programs and its slow and stuck plz help meMy iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine. -
Today I updated, thru itunes, my iphone4, and restored backup, but am stuck in setup loop. After few screens of setup phone says "connect to itunes" or "connected to itunes". I turned off the phone and turned back on - still stuck. Help, please?

Imovie stuck on creating movie
I created a slideshow and when i go to share, file and save it to my documents it doesnt save, it gets stuck on creating movie in the theater, there is no progress in the bar. Help! what am I doing wrong?
I have this same issue, I just get the wheel constantly. I have tried moving all the files out of the Movie folder, I have tried re installing iMovie. Its very frustrating, I just cant use it? Anyone with any ideas, please help!!! tried apple support and i just get told to stay by my phone and they will call shortly, still waiting!!!

every time i open imovie i can't get to the main page or any of my projects. i can see that they are stuck in my top right corner but i can't work on them or even look at them. i'm not sure why it's stuck up there?? please help?
What happens if you choose Window>Zoom?
That should bring the window back to a position that you can access.

When putting in a fade the project (1 hour 23 min), it stalled, just the multicoloured revolving fan. I tried quitting & restarting: OK on the original clips, but stuck again when I put the cursor on the project area. Is it a memory capacity problem? Help wanted please!
