IMovie 'tap to insert media', but no thumbnails appear

I have over a hundred photos and 10+ videos (all taken with the iPhone 4), but when I 'tap to insert media', followed by selecting either video or photos, no thumbnails appear; i.e. there is nothing to select from. What am I missing here?

I did and I did... I tapped [+] and picked my project theme, next screen 'tap [(downarrow)] to insert media'... did that. Next screen, choose 'video', photos, or audio'... did that. Then zip, no camera roll, no thumbnails, nothing.

  • How do I recover an iMovie project that "disappeared" from iMovie, but its' thumbnail/package contents is still in Finder?

I created an iMovie project and finalized it, but when I tried to look for it, it was gone in the iMovie project library. I can find it on"finder", and open package contents etc, but it won't play in iMovie. How do I recover it? Its really important!

I think the trick is to 'Considate source media' on the new library.  See:

  • The inserted media isn't writable

Yes, indeed. This is the reason I can't archive my iMovie projects (iMovie HD 5.0.2(111)). The route is File/Burn Project to Disc... followed by a window: "Create a Project Archive?", click "OK", the Burn window prompts you to insert the DVD, and after about 8 seconds you get the message "The inserted media isn't writable".
I am able to burn DVDs everywhere else with the same disks (Maxell DVD+R). I have only 13 GB of space left on the hard drive, and painstakingly ridding as much as I can right now. Is the lack of space the problem? The movie is 2.56 GB. Is there anything else I can do? I have already run Onyx and Mac-sweeper. Should I trash any preferences? Which ones?
    Thanks a bunch.

Do you have a DV camera that you can export to? I know this sounds like a lame way of going about doing this, but if you could share back to DV Tape and then delete the original project and re-import to a new one, the file size will be smaller and then you may be able to work with it.
However, the down side is that you will not be able to edit any transitions or titles once this is done (which may defeat the purpose you are trying to achieve...)
Obviously,I'm still looking for an answer...
-----BTW---did you ever try using a different brand of DVD-R?

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

I have a similar problem, which is that I want a Windows user to be able to view my iMovie file using Windows Media Player. I have Flip4Mac on my Mac but isn't that for converting the other way around - for viewing a Windows Media Player file on a Mac?
Sorry, I see that there is a Studio version that allows conversion to wmv - I only had the free basic version for Flip4Mac - should have looked more closely at the website!

  • Exporting Photo Gallery from LR3 into established webpage DWcs5 via Insert Media SWF, help?

This is what it's stuck as a spinning loading circle, but never loads!
The images are all resized to max dimension of 800px, so it's not a size>loading issue. I've Put all files, even dependents (as that helped before).
This is what the code looks like:

The template that I'm using is a user created one, but basically the Pure White, but shut off rows and columns and turn all the font and everything but the photo borders and the button directions to white. You should end up with nothing but the picture with a border and the buttons below it. Again, it was a lightroom flash gallery. If you look on the website now, I substituted a simpleviewer gallery, so don't use that as a reference anymore. =P What it basically showed up as was the spinning loading circle, but it worked in lightroom fine. Although! It did Not work in Lightroom's Preview in browser. The page opened and remained blank without the loading symbol.
    Identity Plate: Off
Picture size: X-L (tried with all sizes, really)
Quality: 80% (have increased and decreased)
    Sharpening: Standard (tried low already)
    Watermarking: Off
There are 9 images 800px at max point apiece. I'm exporting, not uploading it, to my site root folder in DW for the main page. Then insert>media>swf so on and so forth. =]

Try asking around on this as I guess not many users are doing what you are.
    Try here and here
    Good luck !!

  • My Imovie looks great on mac but it is discolored and grainy after I export to dvd.

My Imovie looks great on mac but it is discolored and grainy after I export to dvd. I need help, it looks awful when projected even playing from my mac.

It's my understanding based on what another long time contributor stated that Share to iDVD converts direct to a MPEG-2 format and drops it directly into the iDVD Project for you. Share to Media Browser saves it to .MP4 (actually .m4v which is what apple uses for iTunes video, etc) then that gets converted by iDVD into MPEG-2. So something about the export direct to MPEG-2 when you choose Share to iDVD is introducing the problem. That's why Share to Media Browser seems to get around that limitation, it uses a different encoding path altogether.

  • Standalone USB 3.0 "insert media #1 for the tasksequence...

    Hi,
I have multiple USB 3.0 sticks with the standalone tasksequence (windows 7) on that stop installing.
I can boot i WinPE and the stick is recognized (since I imported the USB drivers in winPE 4.0). So I can start the installation.
However, after the "apply OS image" step and after the "apply driver packages" step the system reboots in the new Windows 7 env to continue the TS but the USB stick is no longer recognized and i'm asked to insert media #1 ...
I have to remove the stick, and put it a second later back in the same USB port, then it gets recognized again and the installation can continue. I tried to resolve the problem by importing the USB3.0 drivers straight into the windows7 OS before my initial
    capture... Same problem.
The drivers are there, the stick is just not recognized during the reboot... it only gets recognized when i remove, re-enter it.
This is a problem for years now, but since our new laptops no longer have USB2 ports, it gets a big pain...
Anybody an idea how to solve this ?
    Thanks a lot !

  • I created an imovie that runs 2hrs 14min but can't get it to burn on a DVD

I creatded an imovie that runs 2hrs 14min but can't get it to burn onto a DVD.
    Any recommendations?

    Hi
    iDVD - don't care about GBs - ONLY - Time = Movie + Menus - as follows
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
If You NEED to put in more than 120 minutes onto a SL DVD - Then I would use Roxio Toast™ as this can squees in between 7 to 10 hours onto this - BUT AT A BARELY USABLY QUALITY.
VHS tapes recorded in EP- mode will look brilliant in comparision
    Just as info:
SP = 240 minutes on a standard VHS tape
    LP = 480 minutes
    EP = 720 or more ?
    Yours Bengt W
