IMovie Text

Is there any way I can add highlighted text to a certain place in a clip. In a video I have someone is giving the finger and I wanted to write censored over it. blur the finger or put a small picture over it. Is any of this possible?

Hello juan7daa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iMovie '11: Add titles over video
http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2211
To change the title’s appearance (its font, color, size, style, or alignment), click the Show Fonts button in the upper-left corner of the viewer and make adjustments. Go to this topic for more details: Edit the text and appearance of a title.
Have a nice day,
Mario

  • Which iMovie text font am I in?

I like the "default" one, which doesn't seem be selected in the list. Somehow, in this multi-paged text that I'm making, the font got "switched" and now I'm in Helvetica Neue. But how do I get back to the default one?
The font that seems to be highlighted when I go to the system font list, STAYS highlighted for both the default font, and the Helvetica.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks...

Just the iMovie text, that's it. I did get back to that default one, ok.
I'm using size 3, with a color. I just need to take some time and fully understand all the text options available here. I'm a little confused because the
"default" text I talk about doesn't seem to be selected anywhere.

  • IMovie Text Button!!!!

Ah! I am working on a Spanish Video Project and the iMovie text button on the right hand side doesn't seem to be working. It always crashes the system. But, thankfully my work has always been saved. Please help me on this. My project needs text throughout the movie. Any help is welcome and thanks so much for your time.

  • IMovie Text Options

I am working on a new macbook at work, and am starting my first movie (iMovie 11, I guess).  I have inserted a Title slide into my movie, and when I go to adjust the text, it won't let me into any font (or other) options.  It'll show me what font it defaulted to, but it is grayed out so I can't change it.  Do  I have to import some fonts or something?

If its a new MacBook you are almost certainly using iMovie 10 on Mavericks.   Some title styles don't allow to change fonts.  Others do.  The latest update (10.0.3) has made more title fonts editable so its worth updating if you are using an ealrier version.  Otherwise its just a matter of trying some different title styles.
    Geoff.

  • IMovie text styles keep reverting to default

I've altered type styles in iMovie, finalized the video and exported to youtube without issue, but the next day, when I reopen the Project, some of the type styles have reverted to the default styles, and I have to restyle text. In some cases, I will copy a Project to create a variation of the video, and some of the old, default type styles will appear in the copy, even though the original is fine. There appears to be no way to manually save these changes permanently. It's causing me to delay delivery of a job. Any insights?

    Hi
    Do I know - NO - BUT I've a general approache
If iMovie used to behave in one way - then suddenly stops doing so e.g. after a Panic/Forced Halt (very common origin)
then most probably the iMovie pref. file got corrupted
this file contains settings as PAL or NTSC and other things that one want iMovie to keep till started next time. May be choice of font and size too.
Trach this iMovie pref file - and it will revert to factory settings - then set it at Your liking and it most probably will remain.
    • Delete iMovie pref. file
    iMovie pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
If You run Mac OS X.7 or more - then the Library in the User-account folder is invisibly and need to be set to be viewable. IT IS NOT in the Library on Root level (when opening MacintoshHD - first window = root level)
( It can be done like this: Open Terminal, then enter: chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press return, then restart, and it will always be visible until the next major update, when you do the same thing again. )
    or - do like this.
On the Finder window at the top left of the screen,
Hold down the Option key and clicked on Go.
This allowed You to see the Library folder and select it.
Then keep the Option button pressed down in order to see and select the Library folder.
Once found it, You are able to navigate to the iMovie preferences file and move it to the trash.  iMovie then start’s up fine!
    Yours Bengt W

Are you talking about making a Trailer?
I think it uses the name of the owner of the User Account you're using.
You should be able to edit the name in the Outline for your Trialer.

  • IMovie Text over Still Clips

This is an iMovie HD, not iMovie 6 problem.
No matter what I try, I cannot place a caption over a still picture on my movie. I type the text, check off "Over Black" and choose an effect to drop the text onto the movie. I select "Preview" and it works fine. But when I run "Play" the text will not appear. I even followed the advice of a "Genius" at my nearby Apple Store.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Paul FitzPatrick

ill take stab at it , im not sure what you meant by still clip , wouldn't any still clip have to assigned a certain amount of editing, or time frame using the Burns effect? after doing that , then yes you would drag the title on to the clip from the titles window , not where you put the text , so if for instance you chose 3D spin , you choose your color , and font , and enter the text , then drag the "3D spin" on to the clip , not the text , and unless you are creating a seperate clip , by clicking on over black , the title should be the same time as the clip you are adding it to , and if there are already transitions at either end , you have to split the clip and drag the title to the split ,, what I did like about the windows movie maker when I used a PC , was you were not limited to just "over black" as a title back ground , you could choose the color , and the transparency of the letters or am i missing someting?

  • IMovie text shadows missing

Using iMovie '11 (9.0.4), I'm adding subtitles to a video. The text drop shadow dissapears when I select a font other than what's initially in the text boxes or if I paste text in rather than typing it in. Without the shadow, my text completely disappears on light or white backgrounds. How do I turn the shadow effect on?

Also the originally clips are still in my iphoto and show in imovie, but it still doesn't link to my project. Please help!!
    Thanks,

  • Imovie text over picture

does imovie have the option to have changing, continuous text such as a count down over a picture

Hi Daniel - there is a third-party plugin that would superimpose a second counter over a still or clip.
Also, a simple work-around would be to create a number of short duplicates of your still, each of which has a number superimposed on it. I often use a countdown system at the start of my videos, and that is the way I do it.

  • IMovie text has unexplained wide right margins

Hi and thanks for taking a look
I am making a movie that is subtitled. For awhile I had no problem copy/pasting the subtitles into iMovie's text field, but recently when I copy/paste from MS Word: Mac 2008 12.0.0 I encounter wide right margins that won't go away. It looks extremely unprofessional to have my text clumped to one side.
I have already tried: changing the markup and the final/original markup options; reducing the document's right margin; copy/pasting the entire document into Text Edit and then extracting text from there. Nothing has worked.
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated - the project is due tomorrow!

    give this a try:
    • in MSWord, save your document not as an 'MS Word'.doc, but as an RTF (under Options) - in MSW this will perhaps doesn't change the appearance of your document ..
    • copy/paste from THAT document..
MSW sometimes add some 'unknow' bits&bytes, which makes other apps stumble...

  • IMOVIE Text Not working?

I have Imovie and my text does not work. Every time i hit the text, IMOVIE starts to perform slowly and freeze up to the point i have to force quit. All the other buttons work (like the transitions, music, pictures) but not the text. I have no idea how to fix the problem. IMOVIE works other than that and i need text. Can someone give me a suggestion of what to do?

    Fixed it last week.
Turns out all I had to do was remove a Quartz Composer plug in that was effing up the graphics~

  • IMovie Text and Presets Not Working?

    iMovie 11 isn't working properly.
The text(Titles) shows up fine on preview but once you're out of the editing thing it shows the text plus random black backgrounds on it.
Also, with some of the presets (the animated clips in iMovie) won't work properly. Instead, it just shows random particles moving about but that's it. ._.
Anyone else have this problem? Please help Q.Q

  • Silly request but iMovie Texts in livetype for final cut pro

Ok, so ive recently switched from iMovie to Final Cut Pro, but i had grown to love the text titles in iMovie, now i know you can do some amazing stuff in livetype but is there any way to use the text titles from iMovie in Livetype for export to FCP?
    Thanks

The iMovie type tool is completely different and not compatible with LiveType.
Why not just export a QuickTime file from iMovie and use that in FCP?

  • How to change imovie text color?

I am adding titles and subtitles to my film but, suddenly, all text of the completed film turned white! Since the background for the text is also white, this means that letters are barely visible.
I've spent two hours trying to fix the problem, using the Text Options and the types of letters to no avail. (Actually, no change at all once the titles are fixed seems to be possible using these tools.)
I would appreciate a little advice on this...

    Check the API

  • Imovie text and picture problem

I have this movie clip and on that clip I made the text effect focus, so the movie clips gets unclear. (all that its working fine)
BUT.. then I would also like to have a picture next to the text, but now this picture get also unclear, but I want it clear as the text.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks;)

No problem at all (well, perhaps a tiny one).
The x'es only the rectangles are created with the Rectangle Frame Tool, rather than with the Rectangle Tool -- or, for that matter, with the Text tool. TheX will disappear as soon as you click inside it with the text tool. They are to indicate two different basic objects, and may get a different default Object Style applied.
The usual way to draw a frame designated to receive text is dragging one out with the Text tool.
The dotted lines may be a problem -- that indicates the frames are created on a master page, rather than on the page you are working on. You cannot click-and-type in a frame that resides on a master page; you have to 'release' it first (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Double Click, with the black arrow). There are arguments for and against defining actual text frames on master pages; you'll have to decide for yourself what to use.
This image shows rectangles and rectangle frames on a master page (left) and 'immediately' on a normal page (right):
