IMovie to handle multiple video tracks?

Would iMovie also be able to handle multiple video track? (like in a split screen format, but not in the form of the template)

For example, here's how to do a split screen.

  • Multiple video tracks to line up with audio- iMovie or Finalcut??

I am trying to make music videos, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEzpIAdsur8&feature=channel_video_title
I have iMovie, and my main problem is getting the video to line up with the audio. I can make the audio tracks like up just fine, but then I am stuck with just one video clip to use, I cant go back and forth between different video clips of me playing different instruments because I can't line them up perfectly with the song. Help?
I have been debating wether or not to get final cut express 4, because from what the reviews say it allows multiple video tracks to be used. Would that solve my problem?

This forum is for mobile iMovie (iPhone & iPad).

  • Multiple Video Tracks

With Imovie HD, just wanted to know if it was possible to have multiple video tracks and how? Also I cant seem to find the 'project library' or any 'advanced' tool section...
    Cheers!!

    Hi
No there are no "Multiple video tracks" in iMovie any version.
If it is the effect "Picture in Picture" Then You can add plug-ins from
third part developer that can give this.
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
But if it is real "Multiple video tracks" You need cheapest and "best" solution
    is FinalCut Express.
If it is so that You shoot/record with multiple Cameras/Simultanious AND Continous
Then You would gain greatly on FinalCut Pro (Studio 2 bundle).
To work with this multi-clip function is Great.

  • Dislaying multiple video tracks in FCE

I have 3 video tracks I want to view all at once. I am an iMovie guy and only use FCE for multiple video tracks where I have several cameras on the subject at diffferent angles. I've read a technique here on how to do it but I don't understand it. They talk of shrinking the tracks to 1/4 size and puting them in separate corners. My tracks are sychronized does moving them to separate corners mean in the time line, if so there goes the timing. Could someone list a simple step by step process for this. I'm guessing they mean 3 canvas windows showing each track but I don't know how to get there.
    Dual G4 1.25 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    1. Double-click the topmost clip and open the Motion Tab in the Viewer.
    2. Move the Scale slider down to 50% and drag the small image in the Canvas to one corner.
    3. Do the same with the other clips. You will end up with 4 quarter size images in different corners of the Canvas.

  • Synchronize multiple video tracks

How can I synchronize multiple video tracks using iMovie? i.e.: I want to make videos of myself playing different instruments, and then use clips from each to make a music video (with the sound track being all the instruments combined). The problem is having each clip synchronized to the music.

You would be much better off with Final Cut Pro 7, as it supports multi-cam clip editing.  This feature allows you to do what you want.  iMovie and Final Cut Pro X don't support this type of feature.

  • HELP!! Multiple Video Tracks

I need to know if you are able to have multiple video tracks and once they are all lined up in the sequence you want, am I able to cut from one video track to another just like you would edit from scene to scene with 1 video track (like in Imovie)? I need to edit a dance recital with video from 3 cameras, so i need to line up the videos so they are all in sync as far as time is concerned, then switch from one video track to another without seeing the other tracks playing at the same time...in essence "mask" the other video tracks I don't want to see, but keeping all three video tracks in time and sync'd.
If yes....then I'm buying Final Cut...if no...I need something else!
Hope you understand what I'm asking!!!
    Thanks, DJ

You can do it though FCP does it more efficiently.
It is a bit fiddly in FCE though Piero's free PIP filter makes it a bit easier:-

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • How do I copy and paste text style for multiple video tracks?

    hello,
I am creating multiple video tracks with text.  I want to easily copy and paste the style, i.e., Font, Color, Size - rather than having to scroll down the giant list of fonts to find the one I want, then change the color, then change the size - each and every time.  This is arduous.
I tried copy / paste of one text onto a new video track, but when I type in a different word, it alters the original.
I have 9 tracks of video for 9 different texts that will pop in and out of my video.  I would like to be able to copy/paste then just change the text.  This would save me a huge amount of time.

    paulrudophmusic
I know of no way to alphabetized the Adobe Styles that come with the program.
If you had the time and the inclination, you could rename them all to force them to appear alphabetically, but that does not seem all that practical.
But, if your interest is in the Styles that you save and you do not hit the Reset File List, the new Styles will be at the bottom of the list and you can name them so that they appear that alphabetically at the bottom of the whole Styles list. But that does not address the matter of you having to scroll to the bottom of the Styles list.
In some instances, some things that you think that you cannot do in Premiere Elements obvious features, can be done by computer keyboard shortcuts. I check the keyboard shortcuts under the Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization and unfortuately did not find any that would be applicable to this situation.
As for your changes in one text file popping up unwantedly in another text file, that is because you have text files with the same name. Look into creating duplicates (with different file names) in Project Assets at the onset.

  • Sync edit multiple video tracks

How do you sync multiple video tracks so edits effect all of them?  For example, we have 3 items in video 1, 2, & 3.  If we do a cut and delete to a track in video 1, we want it to do the same thing to video 2 & 3.  We have the sync track on for all video, but it only cuts & deletes in the track we are in.  We're using PPro CS4 on a Vista machine.

Thank you!!  That's what we were doing wrong, we were just using the Razor tool, not Sequence
    >Razor at Current Time Indicator.  I just tried that and it worked perfectly.  Thanks again for your help!!

  • Transitions applied to multiple video tracks

Is there a way to apply a transition, such as a cross disolve, to multiple video tracks by only placing it on the top track and having it applied to the others below it rather than duplicating it on each track below?
For example: Say I have 3 video tracks that all start at the same time. Can I apply only ONE cross disolve somehow and have it affect all 3 tracks so they disolve at the same time? Or do I have to have 3 separate copies of the transition?

If the edits are lined up you can command click to select them together and apply the transition. A separate transition gets applied to each track. If you're going to black or to a single piece of video you can also add a transition to a slug or the video on a higher track to go to that.

  • The point of multiple video tracks

I am half way through the Adobe Premiere CS3 Classroom in a book and the only time multiple video tracks have been used is when working with multiple cameras and still there the multiple tracks where used only to sync up the four different cameras. In the book, to determine which camera angle to show the sequence had to be dragged into another sequence that was set to multi-camera.
I see different marketing shots of the Premiere screen with lots of video tracks. How sand or why do folks use multiple video tracks? It seems that all the video transitions are between different clips on the same track, can a transition span tracks? Might there be some good videos or books that might enlighten me to some more advanced usages?
    Sam

    Here's an example...
Video Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Video Track 2 - Title (lower third graphics)
Video Track 3 - Title (lower third text)
Video Track 4 - Over the shoulder graphic (think "news report")
Video Track 5 - Bug/logo lower left corner
Audio Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Audio Track 2 - Music (underneath)
Audio Track 3 - Sound effects (whoosh! zing! bang!)
Audio Track 4 - Audio commentary (director, talent)
Just something to get your brain going. I've never used more than 10-15 video layers simultaneously (doing green screen work, titles, mattes, etc), and never more than about 6-10 audio tracks. But that's just me....many people need more than that to accomplish whatever they're doing.
Another thought...even though you "can" do transitions and cuts all on one track for most simple projects, some people prefer to use the track numbers as an organizational structure. Put all your cuts for scene 1 on track 1, all your cuts for scene 2 on track 2, and so on. This can be very useful for scanning the timeline and looking for specific changes in the overall storyline (whereas a single, long track would require another system of organization...either sequence markers or perhaps pure memorization).
    Hope this helps!

  • Multiple Video Tracks in Imovie?

Hi. I have a piano duet I wish to play with myself. I want to make a movie of me playing both parts, with both video tracks appearing on the screen. Is this possible with iMovie '09?
    Cheers,
    Lox

    Hi Schillim,
    welcome to this forum
as catspaw wrote. iM is a more basic app, not a "real movie maker's" edit application...
if you want more elaborate feature, have a look at FinalCutExpress...
or, you can "pimp yo' iMovie" with plug-ins, for multi-clips have a look here:

  • What is it like to edit HD with FCE4 and multiple video tracks

I would like to get an idea of what it's like to edit HD on final cut express on an Intel based Power MAC (let's say 2.8GHZ with a large hard drive and 4mb of memory)
If one was to have 4 video tracks and a track of green screen with various transitions ( 4 minutes of video)
I really can't get a handle on this when reading the threads and forums.
When I hear people say I have no trouble editing HD on an Intel 2.8 power MAC, I often wonder that may be the case if you are editing one track of video, but what about multiple tracks, transitions and green screen layers?
If anyone is doing this on FCE with an Intel based Power MAC, I'd like to hear what you are experiencing. I know it;s different for everyone but I'd like to hear some examples and times

Four streams of video with effects can be handled by FCE using Unlimited RT, but it does depend on the computer and the drives. The internal drive of an iMac for instance would be hard pressed to do this without a lot of stuttering on playback. A fast external drive like a RAID would be needed to get good performance.

  • Create Video Wall Style Grid - Multiple Video Tracks

    Hi
I need to create a video wall style grid effect. Can anyone advise a quick way of doing this within Premiere and NOT going to After Effects? I have a large amount of different clips on separate video tracks I need to play in the 'wall' and would prefer to be able to manipulate and tweak if needed within PP
I've tried Red Giant Universe's Splitscreen Blocks and the FX Factory 'Video Wall' and neither go to the amounts I require, they cap at around 9-12 screens.
I'm aware I could do this manually as PIP effects but this would take a vast amount of time.
    Thanks!
    C

I don't think Quicktime Pro is able to export individual audio tracks.  It sounds like Handbrake create an AC3 sound track and a 2.0 channel stereo track.  I don't think iMovie will handle multi-track audio and Final Cut Pro X won't let you assign audio channels to individual outputs.
If you have the original VOB file, DVDxDV Pro will break it out to individual audio channels into separate AIFF audio files which you can then import into Final Cut Pro 7 and remix the audio that way.

  • Cross dissolve transition between multiple video tracks?

I'm wanting to cross dissolve between 2 clips, with each clip consisting of 2 or 3 video tracks (one clip is a still image in track v2, sitting above a color matte in v1; the other clip is motion footage in v1, with another cropped motion image in v2 and v3). When I put cross dissolves between the 2 clips (ie 2 dissolves, one for video track v1 and one for v2), the dissolve is "messy", showing the cropped images in v2 and v3.
To make the dissolves "clean" I can render and export the multiple-track clips, but then I have to add handles to allow the dissolve, and then it takes time to resync each clip, which is very annoying!
Is there a technique for making cross dissolves between multiple-track video clips?

    Any other suggestions? <</div>
    Practice and logical deconstruction.
If your original clip is 10 seconds and your nest is 10 seconds you must trim off 2 seconds of the nest to perform a 2-4 second dissolve. If that pulls too much of your original clip out of the timeline, you must add two seconds to the original clip so the nest is 12 seconds long so you can trim off the 2 seconds requried to perform the dissolve.
An easier way of accomplishing this is to stack the two nests and apply a keyframed opacity ramp to the upper track. This will help you visualize what you're doing wrong and how to add more handles to the upstream clips.
