IMovie to iDvd chapters not showing up?

I have a great film of a relatives wedding that I edited in iMovie I then sent it to iDvd figuring I could chapter it when it got there. I was wrong. You have to enable an advanced menu then chapter the movie in iMovie. I did this then decided to Export at 640x480 so that I would have a real video file to import into iDVD incase something went wrong. (when I had sent the movie to iDVD the first time it showed up in the DVD menu but I did not have a real file anywhere so if I deleted it from the project I would have to spend another two hours to add it back in.
When I added the exported 640x480 movie to a new iDVD project it found no chapter markers. Ok fine so I went back into iMovie and sent to iDVD. This time I let it run over night and when I checked it in the morning it had an error and could not complete. I dont wish to waist another two hours on something that isnt going to work. I have searched all over the internet for how to add chapters between iMovie and iDVD but all of the articles are outdated and all apple has to say is that they both provide support for chapters but no help documentation walks you through the process. Can someone please explain to me the best way to go from iMovie to iDVD and have my chapters? Do I need to use a special project that supports a scene selection or something? I need to make a 4:3 DVD.

Use iMovie 06 with iDVD 08/09, why?
I don't like editing style of iMovie HD. It is painful to follow the subject and change camera angle. iMovie 09 gives freedom of creativity.

iMovie 08/09 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is _thrown out_, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is a "lossless" combination.
With iMovie HD you are right up to the point when you need one project at disk. As soon as you need several clips to be present at one DVD disk this approach is not working anymore.
If you export projects to DV stream by QT _both iMovie HD and iMovie 08/09 do the same bad trick with you - single field._ The workaround of this issue - using FCE for final rendering of DV.
Captured DV is the same quality (both fields) for all 4 of above.

imovie and idvd does not seem to read my collection of mpeg movies. Do they need to be converted to some other format ?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Mpeg1 and 2 files will need converting (Mpegstreamclip can do this - QT mpeg2 playback component required for mpeg2)
Mpeg 4 files will generally be OK but some may need converting.

  • How does apple want me to create a DVD to play on my DVD player from iMovie? iDVD did not come with my iMac.

I have created several home movies in imovie and am now ready to burn them to DVDs that family members can play on their DVD players. How am I supposed to do this? iDVD did not come with my imac. How does apple want us to do this? Thanks.

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it, and how do I install it?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. Some purchasers of new iMacs have reported that if you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone to Apple, they may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. As there is no satisfactory substitute for iDVD Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
It is worth noting that the version of iDVD 7 included with iLife 11 only includes themes from iDVD 5-7. If you want all the older themes you should buy iLife 9, which has the same version of iDVD 7 but with all the themes, and none of the iDVD 7 updaters available from Apple Downloads contain them.
Currently the only certain way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20751 4/Installer001.jpg
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-21006826-20748 0/Pacifist001.jpg
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
But even though you can still buy iLife 9 or 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
When you try to install iDVD you may see a notice come up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March 2012, because Apple have withdrawn the license to it can no longer be used.
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After installing iDVD reset the time back to the correct time on your Mac.
You may be to use able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  Just click on the Continue button and it should work as expected, but for some it will not continue unless the date is  set back.
    Additional comments:
Apple has clearly indicated in the newest iMacs, Mac mini and Retina Display MacBook Pro that it plans to phase out optical disc drives as soon as possible across the board, providing an external USB drive as an option for users who need one but which is not universally compatible with all Macs.
Users increasingly have fewer opportunities to use optical drives, as the bulk of third party software is now available as a digital download either directly from the vendor or through Apple's App Store. but not all. Apple also sees digital distribution as the future of music and movies, as exemplified in Apple TV, which has never included an optical drive.
The company has never supported any new HD optical disc formats on its products, including Microsoft's ill fated HD-DVD or Sony's Blu-ray format, despite initially being involved in the Blu-ray standardization process. Instead, Apple has put its resources behind developing increasingly higher definition audio and video formats that it can distribute electronically through its own iTunes Store.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their latest Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.
The latest anorexic iMacs do not even include a CD drive (or Firewire)! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of optical media - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • PREMIERE PRO CC 2014 chapters not showing up in ENCORE now after update

    Always did before.

I'm using the following programs on Mac OS X Version 10.9.5:
    Encore version 6.0.0.492
    Premiere CC 2014 version 7.2.2
    Media Encoder CC version 7.2.2.29
I'm having the same exact issue described above, but the xml in my .xmpses file does not match what you've listed above.  The end of my .xmpses file reads as follows:
    </stMkr:MarkerInfo>
            <stMkr:NMarkers>38</stMkr:NMarkers>
            <stCap:CaptureTimecode>

And I can't find the "Duration>0</StreamDuration>" anywhere in my .xmpses file.  Yet, I'm still getting the "Error parsing MPEG metadata file. Deleting or renaming "E:\YourVid\test.m4v.xmpses" will allow you to import, but any markers will be lost." message when trying to import as a timeline in Encore.  Is there a new workaround that you know of?  Thanks for any help you can give!

  • IDVD menus not showing up...

Hey people, we work in a video class in our school and the menus for Idvd does not work. Like they dont even show up. So if you can help us out that would be amazing and we would love you forever.

    Hi and welcome to discussions!
You are going to have to give us the information about the Macs you are working on. See my profile at the bottom of this post?
Go to the right of this screen and click on "My Settings" and fill it out.
Then we will know what to ask and what to tell you.

  • Imovie 10.0.2 not showing clips in editor

Hi, when i click a video i'm working in, it won't show the clips in the editor. It shows the lines separating the clips but the clips don't appear. Any help please?
My imovie version in the newest, 10.0.2 i think.
    Thanks:)

I'm the origininator of this thread.  Yes, I tried selecting Software Update... from the Apple menu.  No difference.  On my other Macs, the update showed up regardless of doing this or going directly to the Mac App Store and selecting updates.
As I indicated in my original post, I know how to download either the delta or combo updates and have already downloaded the 10.8.2 combo updater.  I also keep an updated copy of the 4GB, full, Mtn Lion software installer on a bootable flash drive and I have just downloaded the complete 10.8.2 installer and updated my flash drive.
My question involved just the App Store, because when I've experienced one type of problem there it leads to other problems.  The fact that I've got 3 macs all with essentially the same software and one of the three is not showing the 10.8.2 update tells me that there is some software problem on that Mac.
If I can't resolve it, I'll probably use my full 10.8.2 installer on my flash drive to resintall a full 10.8.2 version on that computer.  That will likey solve this problem but will take a bit longer because of the install time.

  • I've exported a video from iMovie but it's not showing in my pictures. Why is this happening?

I recently made a video for my YouTube channel, but with this happening, I can't get videos out on time. I planned a video for today but it's been set back by a day. So, iCommunity, why is my video not showing in my pictures (where videos can go too) after a successful export? (It won't let me re-export it)

You really need to ask in the Elements forum (this is Photoshop)
    Photoshop Elements
But I wonder if it is a similar situation to Photoshop CS2 which needs a special download now because the activation server no longer functions

  • HT4997 I want to burn a movie to a dvd with iMovie but idvd doesn't show up in the "share" menu--why?  My SuperDrive indicates that my DVD+R can be written to.  Please Help.

I just spent a week creating an iMovie and wanted to burn it to a DVD.  The instruction tutorial said to go to the "Share" menu and select "iDVD", however there is no "iDVD" listed in that memu.  I checked to see that my DVD+R was writeable in my SuperDrive--it is?  Why doesn't "idvd" show in the "share" menu?  Please help, thank you.  Fustrated Mark.

I may have found a way around this issue. I have the old style mouse with a wired usb connection. I've learned from other discussions that by holding down the 'Control' key and pressing the mouse button on an Apple a menu similar to the right-click menu of a PC will appear. When I tried this from the 'Project Library' on iMovie on my iMAC, a menu appears that DOES contain the export to iDVD choice. This choice is still not visible from the 'Share' menu in the menubar. This appears to be some glitch in the Apple software, but my computer is currently formulating the iMovie into the iDVD format. I have my fingers crossed.

  • IMovie to iDVD - Chapters frozen

I've created a project on iMovie with no issues. I can play all the clips on the preview. I'm using the Share > iDVD function and 2 chapters just freeze when I use the iDVD preview.
I have a frame of another chapter and the sound of the one that was supposed to play. I had this issues with a few more clips, but after I replaced the source files they were fixed, but these 2, even with new source files just won't work. Any advice?

The viewer in iMovie 11 shows the clips in the Event section, but not in the Project section. Is there any way to fix this problem? I cannot make any videos without being able to view the clips that I want to edit in the project section.

  • When I upload audio from itunes into my imovie project, it does not show all of the track?

Hi, I have opened a new project in imovie - I have uploaded 200 photos into the project to make a Comic Book movie!
this project is 7 mins and 8 seconds long - the exact length of the audio track that I want to play during the movie!
I have selected the music by clicking the musical note button in imovie, which open up my itunes library and displays the track I want to use that is 7 mins and 8 seconds long.
When I click and drag my MP3 audio from itunes into my imovie project, i only plays the first 5 mins & 33 seconds; leaving my project in silence for the final 1 min & 3 seconds????
I have not added markers, there are no fade ins or fade outs - only the first 5 min & 33 seconds or a 7 min & 8 seconds MP3 Audio track???
I have spent 10 hours trying to rectify this problem.......
can anyone help me with this problem

  • IMovie Scrapbook theme transitions not showing

Initially, I had my transitions in a Scrapbook theme set automatically. Later on, I decided on change them manually. I moved them around and added new ones, and all the usual ones work faboulously. However, when I add any of the Scrapbook transitions, it simply doesn't work. There is no background, no compilation of photos. Images simply skip from the previous one to the next one. The frustrating part is that in some places it works without any problems, whereas in others, I am simply not able to fix it. When I click on the transition itself, it actually shows the pins on the photos that are to be used in the Scrapbook transition, but still, when I play the movie, the transition doesn't work.
Any ideas on how to overcome this? I am already losing my mind here...

    facing the same problem too

  • DVD created with Imovie HD & iDVD will not play

Footage transferred and burnt to disk using iDVD One Step DVD will not play using the play button on the DVD player software . You need to select menu twice and then it will work.
This has only started happening recently so I imagine its due to an update of some sort?
Is there a solution that anyone knows about?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

I was not using Dual Layer media, was using Maxell discs. I didn't go looking for burn speeds when I tried this version of iDVD. Just was disappointed that the 6 discs I'd burned wouldn't go on the DVD player.
So I certainly will give it a go with the slower burn speed and let you know what happens.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • IDVD Themes not Showing up?

So at work I noticed my Mac Pro did not include iDVD, but had all of the other iLife programs. So after finding the install disc I installed iDVD back onto my computer and it installed and booted up ok, but when I make a project the theme is not visible. I can hear the different theme musics in the background as I switch from different themes but all I see (even when simulating) is a black box. I am pretty sure the themes are installed, but I am puzzled as to why I do not see them. Anybody have any suggestions or have this occur to them before?

    Try this:
delete iDvd completely with this app (free download from apple's web site):
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/appdelete.html
Repair Permissions from apple's disc utility (applicatons > Utilities > Disc Utility).
Now re-install iDvd (custom install). You'll need the software DVD (the one with iDvd on it) and perform a custom install for this one app only. You'll have to install the DVD as if you plan to install all the iLife apps until you get to this particular screen:
Click on customize (bottom left). And install iDvd plus all necessary resources directly from the software Dvd that shipped with your mac (or any retail version of iLife'09).
Hope this helps but if not just come on back. And good luck to you.

  • Videos not showing in iMovie for iPad

    Hey all
I just downloaded a bunch of videos from my camcorder to my PC... Then proceeded to put those vids on my new iPad.  I'm trying to edit tthe videos in iMovie but they are not showing up.  I already did the locations services so that is not it.  Does anybody know what needs to be done?

    Hi
iMovie needs iPhoto and other components in iLife bundle to address their respective libraries. if they point to a newer one - iMovie will not find the old material.
    So close all
Open iPhoto and select the right library - open
Now open iMovie and let it up-date thumbnails photos
Does it work better now ?
    Yours Bengt W
