IMovie to iDVD Missing Audio

Weird issue that I can't seem to find solution too after searching the discussions. Imported some footage from DV camera, short little movie of the kid. Laid a sound track over it and then used it in an iDVD project and now about 30 secs into the movie the original audio off the DV is missing. Starts out fine - audio and soundtrack, then the vocals (original DV audio) just go missing.
Odd thing is I have made hundreds of movies like this and never had a problem. Matter of fact I exported this particular movie to MPEG4 and it was fine, it only seems to happen on conversion to MPEG2 (ala iDVD). I even tried converting to MPEG2/DVD via FFMPEGX and sure enough it occurs there also. So its something in the conversionto MPEG2.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution?
FYI - I believe the audio is 16bit - as recommended. Latest iLife - iMovie 6.x, etc with all current updates.

Hi macvoodoochile:
If you are really using OS X 10.2 with iLife 06, then I guess your 'voodoo' name is right...

  • VCR to Mac to iMovie to iDVD no audio

Why does the audio in a video transferred from VHS to Mac to iMovie to iDVD not play? It plays fine in iMovie.

I use Toast Ti 5.2.3 to burn disk images from iDVD without problem with Tiger. I suggest Stuart extract the audio tracks from the video clips in iMovie before sending to iDVD. Just select all of the clips in the time line and use the Advanced menu option to extract the audio. The will pop up in the audio track below the video timeline track. Then send to iDVD and burn the disk image, etc.

  • IMovie to iDVD lost audio

I tried searching and couldn't find anthing and I'm not sure if this is an iMovie problem or iDVD problem.
I made a movie in iMovie using video clips I converted to DV streams using MPEG Streamclip. I also added some music from my iTunes library to the movie.
Everything plays fine in iMovie, but when I play or preview the movie in iDVD there is no sound at all including the songs from iTunes.
I went ahead and added some music to the iDVD theme and burned a dvd.
When I play the dvd there is sound for the music I added to the theme, but still no audio anywhere else when I actualy play the movie.
    What am I missing?

I bought iLife 06 because I thought the problem was due to some themes I added to iDVD.
Everything worked out great and I still have the added themes. Not one problem.
The only problem is the whole process to burn the movie from iDVD takes twice as long and still hangs up on the audio encoding process. I knew this before I bought it.
Of course, I used the latest themes , threw in a clip for every floating window, , music on top of that, submenus, and many scenes.
It took me about 6 hours to burn it with great results.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • IMovie to iDvd - No audio- disc image did not work-reopen iDvd files empty

I am making a 45 minute movie of a day at Disneyland. (My daughter wants it all so the editing is minimal)
I have tried to burn 3 times. each time takes about 12 hours.
first attempt had an error, i know not when, nothing burned to disc.
second attempt burned to disc, the 6.0 theme looked great, MP3 music played, worked on TV set
NO audio on the movie. trash the disc.
Third attempt burn to disc image. end up with two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. the audio folder is empty. no image
All the audio in the movie is off the video tracks except for ONE sound effect.
Is that causing the problem? Is the update causing the problem?
When I reopen any iDvdproj the themes are all blank even if the project file size is 5.8 GB. that does not seem right.
I have another smaller project with the same problem, the iDvd files are blank when I reopen them.
Right now I am trying to compress the movie into a QuickTime file but all the options were confusing since I am not an expert. in another 6 hours I will have results I have no idea how big the file will be, but the image willl remain the existing size ?? I am afraid it will be too small.
How come it seems so easy to make a dvd to watch on you own TV yet so IMPOSSIBLE?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iLife 06 updated

    Hello Wade,
the problem seems to be the audio. Give us a little more info on what audio you used in the iMovie project (original audio, music, MP3, Aiff...).
Also: what audio setting does your camcorder have? Should be 16-bit, 12-bit is a big no-no with iDVD, see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=494268&tstart=0&start=45
12 hours seem a long time to encode 45 min of video ... your mac should be able to do that in 4-5 hours max. I would suggest you convert all MP3 audio to AIFF before importing to iM.
If your original audio is 12-bit you can try to export the whole audio (original & music) via QT using the audio only option with 24-bit Integer, then re-import into iM.
Get the latest QT update, if you haven't done so already.
Also do some basic iDVD troubleshooting:
    1. free some space on the startup drive (15-20GB recommended)
    2. Trash preferences (com.apple.iDVD.plist) and empty trash
    3. Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility
    4. Clear Cache Files (Tools: CacheOutX, Onyx)
Have a look at what John Beatty says in this thread about iDVD trouble shooting:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=508221&tstart=0
Third attempt burn to disc image. end up with two folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. the audio folder is empty. no image
the AUDIO_TS folder being empty is perfectly normal for Video DVDs, only music DVDs have audio in that folder
    hope this helps

  • Why does iMovie import vobs missing audio?

    Hello
I did import vobs in iMovie 11 from a personal dvd back up (a personal copy made from a VHS into a standard dvd video) in order to make some adjustments, but, surpise, no audio at all!. Checked single vobs and the whole dvd and everything works fine both on the mac and a home dvd player. I tried also to rename .vob in .mpeg, iMovie imports each without any problem, but it's always silent.
    Any hint?
    Thanks, Gianfranco

If you have not already done so, update to the latest (just released) version 9.0.4 - this update includes fixes for saving audio adjustments. Hopefully, it will fix your problem!

  • IDVD no audio solved, but ...

like many other, I had the problem that when I edited my movies in iMovie and iDVD the audio was fine, until I started burning them on DVD or disk image. Than there was either no audio at all, or after some minutes (usually 5-15) the audio was gone.
I tried lot's of tips that I found in this forum, but nothing helped.
My data was on an external USB2 drive (mac formated). Since access to USB2 is somewhat slow on macs, I got a new firewire drive. Using the terminal cp, I copied all my data to the new harddrive. When I than opened my iDVD project and did my 101 try to burn the DVD, everything went fine. I tried my other projects that I got stuck with (no audio) ... all of them burned just fine. When I do it from the USB2 drive --> no audio !!!
So my problem is solved and I'm happy.
But I would like to know just for my sanity what is causing this problem when having the data on a USB2 drive (400GB, MacOS Extended). Does anybody has any idea?
The drive is slower than a firewire drive. But the only effect I would expect from that is that I have to wait longer until my movie is rendered ....
20'' iMac (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   latest version of iMovie/iDVD

    Welcome Uwe_Meier
Glad to hear the issue was solved eventually. To answer your question, iMovie and iDVD6 were designed to work well with firewire devices. They are often problematic at best with USB.
The reason for this is that firewire offers a sustained data stream which is in practice ideal for most video applications, whereas usb transfers data in packet technology (burst of data that are entirely CPU dependent). Firewire is actually smarter technology for most high speed data transfers (and especially video) since it is not cpu dependant. FW negociates bus conflicts on its own whereas the same bus conflict can slow USB to a crawl.
The drive is slower than a firewire drive. But the only effect I would expect from that is that I have to wait longer until my movie is rendered ....
Nope. This isn't correct. Here's why:
"While USB 2.0 has a higher theoretical speed limit (480Mbps) than Firewire 400 (400 Mbps), Firewire is much faster than USB 2.0 in real life usage, just by nature of the design of the protocol.
Firewire has very little overhead and is far more efficient with sustained data transfers than USB 2.0.
USB is very dependant on CPU usage and is adversely affected by other processes running on the machine, as well as other devices attached to the USB bus. Firewire is not suceptible to these issues.
In the real world, you will never get anywhere near 480Mbps with USB 2.0. You are hardly even likely to see half that speed.
Firewire is faster than USB 2 in almost every aspect... especially on a Mac."
The above is a quote from Rich Fleming.

  • Missing Audio in iDVD burns

Okay, I have seen several posts and suggestions on how to get the sound back on the dvd with iDVD, but nothing seems to work. I have tried EVERYTHING, except for the option that I am doing right now, but if that's how it has to work, I don't NEED itunes.
    iMovie project, sounds great
exports to my iPOD just fine (with audio)
no audio when it reaches my DVD
    Equipment used:
    933 mhz PowerMac G4
LaCie DVD±RW Double Layer (which replaced my no longer compatible superdrive)
    Plenty of Hard Drive space
    maxed out 1.5GB Ram
    OS X 10.4.8
I get the video, but no audio
I have already tried going into ADVANCE and clicking [Delete Encoded Assets]
I have also taken any Quicktime modifications off my computer (Flip 4 Mac)
I am now in the process of burning a Disc Image and testing it, with 933mhz, this takes a while.
    Any other suggestions?
Thanks, and I know this is a frequent question, I just couldn't find the answer.

    MacGreen:
I had a similar situation. There were 2 separate iMovie6 projects (both 16 bit audio) that were brought into a single iDVD6 project. When I mounted/viewed generated image file, one movie had audio and the other did not. Somehow audio was not included in encoded video files for the 2nd movie.
Problem might be related to fact that total size of encoded video files (in VIDEO_TS) was approaching limit of single sided DVD (4+ GB). I noticed that if I did trick of exporting/importing full DV in iMovie, then bringing back into iDVD, for some reason, the total size of encoded video files was now less that 4GB. Maybe that gave room for audio in 2nd movie.
Or maybe its not related. I did not have any missing audio problems like this using iMovie5/iDVD5 combo (and earlier versions) and I made a bunch of DVDs of varying sizes using those packages. Seems like a bug somewhere. I know you are using FCE. Can you export edited projects as DV and bring back into iMovie6 then into iDVD6?
Let us all know if you get your project working properly.
    Good Luck.

  • Missing Audio in iMovie 5

I tried to burn an iMove (2hour movie) in iDVD 5 and after 20 hours I gave up. BUT, I checked my movie and it seemed to hang at the point of where I imported a purchased iTune song. and some of the audio was missing after that. All the rest of the audio was imported from iTunes that was imported from CD's to iTunes.
I replace the audio and burned in Yoast and it worked fine.
    Has anyone experienced this?
Still playing with this to get it to burn in iDVD. Themes in iDVD are way better.
    LargeAl

Hi LargeAl - have a look here, about iTunes-purchased music and iMovie:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300456
Also - the very Maximum length of an iMovie for iDVD burning is a little LESS than 2 hours. that may be your problem.

  • Missing Audio / Sound in imovie with .AVI files when imported from iphoto

fortunately i don't need this answered, eventually figured it out my self, just thought it would be helpful to share the solution to this problem as I'm sure others have experienced it. The problem makes more sense when explained chronologically.
My wife has a Casio digital camera, and had recorded many Movies on it, they all sat in iPhoto all worked fine until i upgraded to Quicktime 7.5, then the audio disappeared. i tried in vain to fix (reinstalled QT 7.5, removed plugins, reinstalled etc.), but to no avail, so i left it - this was all under Tiger, i decided I'd upgrade to Leopard and see if the problem went away.
Before upgrading to Leopard i got iLife 08, when i first launched iMovie08 it pulled in all the movies from iPhoto, but they too had no sound.
Then i upgraded to Leopard, now the quicktime missing audio issue got fixed, so i could hear the audio again when launching quicktime via iPhoto (turns out the issue was with how quicktime was handling adaptive PCM audio stream) - i expected all would be fine in iMovie... but it wasnt.
after much experimentation i realised that i had to force iMovie to re-import all the video from iPhoto, this fixed the issue, but with no obvious way to do this, this is what i did:
    - opened finder, navigated to iphoto library, right click and chose 'show package contents'
    - navigated to the data folder and did a search on this folder only for all movie files (when imovie had originally converted iPhoto movie files into thumbnails it dropped all the thumb size movie files in this folder)
    - deleted all the movie files from the Data folder, making sure not to delete the movie files in any other folders & emptied trash
    - launched imovie, now all the iphoto movies were missing.
    - re-launch iPhoto, whilst holding down shift, option + command keys
    - checked 'rebuild the iphoto library database' only, once done, closed iphoto
    - re-launched imovie, this forced it to re-import all the movies from iphoto
... and then the sound was back.
    FYI
    this worked when using...
    OS 10.5.4
    QT 7.5
    iMovie 7.1.4
    iPhoto 7.1.4
    jb

    Hi MGW,
I do not no how things are handled when using HDV and technical documentation is hard to find on this topic of how photo are handled using HDV but in iMovie and most non HDV video editing software the picture is always 72ppi regardless of what is was/is on the outside and the images that appear the worst are the ones with less.
On a side note I don't use iPhoto because of all the superfluous files and thumbnails it creates and it disorganises my photos according to criteria that is completely irrelevant to me. I have had these thumbnails pop up in the browser in the past primarily with any photos that existed in the library prior to any updates. With what I have been working on as of late can understand how and why this could happen.
If you scroll through the media browser dose it appear that the library you are working with duplicates itself somewhere along the line or do you see double images side by side?
What are you machine specs and please include you screen/display size and graphics card information as this is the most relevant information at this point with what you are doing.

  • Is there two layers of audio on imovie or idvd

I just finished A 300 picture presentation on Vietnam for a friend using keynote(excellent program). Each picture has a different show time(10 - 20 seconds) because of amount of text on it and info in the picture. We want to include back ground music for the presentation but also do a voice over on some to explain whats going on in some of the pictures. Does either Imovie or Idvd have two audio layers or do I have to use final cut which I can but then I have to go back through all the stills and reset the play time. Thanks karl

    You are mindless!!! Just kidding.
You are forgetting the Database is an operating system.  The operating system (database) has Data, Users, and Account, Methods.
There is an association between a User and an Account.  When a user logs onto any operating system there is data/properies that is owned by the user.  The properties are obtained by the operating system from the Account when you log.
The OOP objects in a database are tables.  Normally OOPs refers to class object, but a database table can be considered a class type object.  The association in a database is where two or more tables share a common field.  You can use a SQL
Join statement to combine database tables by there common fields.

  • Audio drops when movie exported from iMovie into iDVD

    Hi there,
I am a problem which I can't seem to fix.
I have created a 7 minute long slideshow in imovie with MP3 files from iTtunes embedded. The video and audio are fine when exported as a MOV file (and within iMovie itself). But when exported into iDVD for burning, the audio drops out completely after 3 and a half minutes.
I've tried updating iMovie, iDVD etc., deleting encoded assets as it says to do here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24043?viewlocale=en_US
    to no avail.
Does anyone have any tips? My friend's wedding is on Saturday!
    Thanks so much.

  • IMovie to iDVD, audio is scrambled.

    Greetings
I have been using iMovie to iDVD for sometime now, though I am no pro, I have never encountered this type of issue. I have about 100 clips which I are now in iDVD. While verifying the clips and titles, etc., I played a few of my 12 chapters. I noticed that the audio was 'scrambled'; the audio can't be understood at all! Too weird. (There is no problem with the video).
Now I must admit that I am using different audio tracks than ever. For much of the video, I have set the 'main' audio to 25 or 50%, while the secondary audio has music, which is set to 50 to 70%.
I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. And to clarify, 'yes' the audio and fades are great in iMovie.
Your help has always been helpful, I thank you now for your help in helping me figure this one out.
    Martin

    Martin,
Try going back to iMovie and use the command "extract audio"
This separates the audio and video in your DV stream. You should still be able to set volume controls. Then try again in iDVD.
Also check your audio (from the video) is it 16bit?

  • Why do I lose sound when I try to make a dvd from imovie to idvd.  The sound is all there in iMovie, but when I make my dvd, I have sound for about 3-4 minutes and then its gone.

I have made a 1 hour 30 minute dvd in IMOVIE.  The video and the sound are perfect.  However, when I make it into a dvd on IDVD, I lose sound after 3 or 4 minutes.  Any Suggestions?

    Hey MichiganMan32,
I found an article that looks like it applies to that audio issue you're experiencing. Check out the following troubleshooting steps here:
    Resolution
Make sure the audio track has not been muted in the timeline.
Switch to timeline view by clicking the clock button in the iMovie window.
There are three checkboxes on the right side of the iMovie window underneath the sound icon. These checkboxes correspond to the video track and two additional audio tracks. Make sure all three tracks are selected. Any deselected tracks are muted.
If you are using iMovie 3 or later, check the "Edit Volume" option to see if it is selected. If so, make sure the volume of the affected video clips is not set to its lowest level, or try deselecting the option to Edit Volume.
See if the volume in iMovie is set to its lowest setting. Directly under the Preview pane in iMovie is a volume slider. Set this slider to maximum volume.
Make sure the computer's audio is not muted.
Quit and reopen iMovie, then check the clip to see if it now plays with audio.
Check to see if any of the video clips you have imported are in the MPEG-1 format. MPEG-1 clips will lose audiowhen you export them as part of your iMovie project.
Quit and reopen iMovie, then reimport the footage from the camera. Play the newly imported footage and see if you now have audio.
If you are using an analog to DV converter instead of a camera, make sure the audio connections are good between your VCR or other analog device and the converter. Check the documentation that came with your converter for more information.
Check /Library/QuickTime/ and ~/Library/QuickTime/ for any third-party plugins. Remove them if present, log out, and log back in. Check to see if the issue persists. If not, check with the manufacturer of the disabled plugin to see if an update is available. Note: The tilde (~) represents your Home directory.
Note: "Apple Intermediate Codec" and "QuickTimeMPEG2" are Apple components. For more information about a particular plugin, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info. Look at the version string of the Get Info window to see if the plugin developer name is listed.

  • IMovie to iDvd problem /frozen frame on DVD

i produce many videos with iMovie and iDVD every day. the imported video footage via different cameras like sony cx105 or panasonic sdr 150 works fine and i can see the footage without problems in iMovie. after editing and rendering in iMovie, sending the footage to iDVD i can see that sometimes, while encoding the footage in iDVD the video footage freeze but iDVD finish the whole procedure. later while watching the dvd the movie runs for a while and than suddenly the video freeze at one frame but the audio continues.
this happens in around 15 burned dvd 1 times. if i try to start the whole iMovie project again and sending it to iDVD after rendering and even by cutting the frozen frame shot out the same thing happens again.it seems that there is somehow an error while importing the footage from the sd card or camera into the computer iMovie. the following error message comes up:

    Hi
Most probably iDVD pref file - trash it - or even better start a new User-account
log into this and have a re-try.
    Else
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
