IMovie Troubles - Speeding up video

Is there any way to speed up video or apply slow motion in iMovie '08? I think there is in '06, so I'm frustrated that it isn't intuitive or existent in the new version.

Yes but im08 is basically a new application, it has some stuff im6 doesn't have and doesn't have some stuff that im6 does.

Is it possible to control the duration of a video clip in IMovie? Speed
    it up/slow it down?

I actually think the content gets smoother in faster mode. But maybe that's just my opinion.
By the way, the fast/slow/reverse effect is pretty sensitive, i use it for my fight scenes in movies and I can only raise the bar one notch faster before it starts to look cheesy.

How cat I speed up video "Share" from iMovie library in to .mov file?
I am converting ONLY 18 sec. long video, and it says 88 min. till its completeion. ???
I have over 1TB of free space and my mac specs are:
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB

Using iMovie Version 10.0.2 (Mavericks) and importing HD 1920x1080 since I am not interested in any smaller quality.
in other words, I would like to be able to import videos from my camera (highest available quality) which could be played on QuickTime.
Is there any way I can avoidaving my videos saving in " iMovie Library.imovielibrary" ???
I am interested in having my videos as (1920x1080 .mov) file and no other.

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

.. hmm, well.. nor sure about that 'better'.. I'm receiving a lot of 'help' mails esp, for that advice.. that JESDI app is a beast, and some people fail to mangle it
but, IF you manage to use it, the results are superb due to the pro-feature of 'frame blending', I excessively use it now for all my soccer-videos.. the iMovie slowmo often fails to avoid stutter on final DVDs.. with JESDI, I feel like a broadcast director

  • How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

Do you mean get 55 minutes of real time footage to show in only 55 seconds?
One way that might work but it will take a fair bit of work in multiple repeated steps.
Select all the footage on the timeline and then use the Turtle/Rabbit slider to speed it all up to the maximum speed allowed. This of course won't be any where close to 55 seconds.
BUT... export your movie back out to video tape or to a full quality DV format quicktime file. This speeded up version becomes "normal" time. Now reimport to iMovies. Since this is now normal speed as far as iMovie is concerned, you can again use the slider to speed the whole thing up to the max.
Now just repeat as often as needed to get it as fast as you want. Export back out, reimport, adjust speed, export, import, adjust, etc.

  • Why can't I speed up video clips in iMovie for iOS?

in iMovie 2.0, it allows me to slow down the video clip, but how come it doesn't let me speed up the clip?

Looking at the article you linked, this is all it actually says about video speed:
You can change speed on videos and even do picture-in-picture on iOS devices. The changing speed setting is great for iPhone 5s who can record slo-mo video at 120 frames per second.
As this states, you'd think that 120fps would be necessary to slow down video, otherwise it starts to look choppy. If you speed it up you're basically just dropping frames, right?  Still a mystery why we can't speed up in iMovie.

  • Trouble with ichat video

The person im trying to chat with has a macbook as well. at first we had to try a few times to get it to work and then we did. when we got back on after ending our first one 10 mins ago we couldnt get it to work.
Why would this happen if we had already gotten it to work? it says that it failed to connect because i didnt respond although i clicked accept. when i would do that it would say connecting video with _ and then give an error note after a few seconds.
If anyone could help that would be great

    Hi
First have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.

  • IMovie duplicating audio and video

I'm trying to import PhotoBooth movies into iMovie. I'm choosing the "import movies" file in iMovie, and finding the videos from "pictures" "photobooth," and they seem to upload fine. But when they're done uploading and I try to play them some of the clips have no sound, and some of them have duplicate audio (audio from another clip, but not the one that's supposed to be playing). iMovie is also importing duplicates of my clips. I've opened all my videos in QuickTime as well, and they work fine there. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong or if it's a glitch with iMovie. Please help me if you've had a similar problem! I appreciate it.

Everything works fine when the movie is played in the preview mode but the export process (in any format) mess up with the audio.
If you have made speed changes (such as slow motion) using your own custom speeds, audio glitches may appear in your exported movie. Only use the presets that appear on the speed slider. They are 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400% and 800%. Don't manually enter percentages such as 33%, 75%, 128% - ONLY use the presets. The audio glitches generally don't show up in preview, only when the project is exported (shared).
This is a well known bug in iMovie '09 and there have been many posts about it. Let's hope a future upgrade will rectify the problem!

  • IMovie is speeding up my clips

I have a series of clips that I've recorded on my camera that I'd like to import into iMovie. The problem is that every time I try to import them, they show up in iMovie as being shorter than they should be, because iMovie is speeding them up. For example, an 18 second clip on my camera gets shortened to 9.4 seconds, and a 1 second clip becomes a .7 second clip. Once I import them, it isn't PLAYING the clips faster than normal; it's playing 5 seconds of clip in 5 seconds, its that somewhere in the import process iMovie decides that it would be a good idea to shorten my clips by speeding up the audio and video so that more gets displayed in the same amount of time.
I haven't had this problem before- in fact I've had success before with this exact same camera, computer, and version of iMovie. I don't know what happened. What's even more frustrating is that when I select "import clips from Camera" and it asks me which clips I'd like to import, the application KNOWS that they're 18 and 1 second long clips, and I can play them from that screen. I don't know how to change what happens between that screen and when they show up after being imported

I just got off a long call with support - they referenced this forum discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10357667 . It looks like the solution is to upgrade (to iLife I guess, which will of course cost). They warned me that upgrading may not for sure fix it, but it appears as though it should work based on what they say here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3481

  • Why is iMovie automatically speeding up my clips?

I'm trying to add clips of music videos (normally 20 seconds) and iMovie automatically speeds them up for some reason (they become 18-19 secs). I know this seems small, but it really is noticeable for the songs :-/

    Hi Sammusik,
Several things can affect the playback speed of an added clip, such as automatically adjusting the speed of the clip to match the framerate of the rest of the project. For more information on this and manually adjusting the playback speed, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.
