i want to get the latest i movie on my imac. but i am having some trouble.
i have the latest imovie on my mackbook pro and now i want it on my imac because it is easier to use. when i go to my app store and try to download imovie it tells me that i need a software update to mac OS X 10.9 or later. i went to software update and checked and it said that my software was up to date. what am i doing wrong?

If you are on 10.6.5, you would need to update to 10.6.8 which will automatically install the app store (or you already have 10.6.8 and the app store?). Upgrading to a newer OS is not an update; both Lion and Mountain Lion need to be purchased, but the newest - Mavericks - is free. Once you have the app store, you can download a newer OS if your machine is supported by Mavericks. Here are the requirements:

You do need a minimum of 4 GB of RAM (more would be much better) in order for Mavericks to run well.

After updating to 10.10.2, when I try to authenticate when to download an iMovie update in the app store, I get a STATUS_CODE_ERROR message. How do I fix it?

Based on the numerous posts regarding iTunes and the App Store, there appears to be an issue at Apple's end. Although Apple has not provided any indication on the cloud status page.

Why does imovie update 10.0.7 keep asking to download

imovie update 10.0.7 has been downloaded and installed 3 times but it still reappears

IMovie update-when will it open all video formats

Its time iMovie was able to open various video formats (a lot of formats are inaccessible such as .dat, .mkv etc). Now, as a user, it doesn't matter whether the software is hi-fi, all that matters is readability, something that Apple must consider in their iMovie update. A lot of old timers used to have video CDs, now the user is busy using another cheap 3rd party software to convert .dat/.mkv into iMovie formats, the whole concept of video quality is lost there itself.

IMovie update/downgrade?

Wiping out my laptop caused me to have to update to version 10.0.1 on my MacBook Air. I used to use 10.8.3 which was the best version for me. Although, iMovie or iPhoto didn't come with version 10.0.1.
I decided to download iMovie even though the rates were terrible. Then, problem after problem started. Red tinted videos whenever I import them into iMovie, it always freezes, and the new design is NOT working for me.
So I ask, when is the next iMovie update, or is it already out? Also, will there be a downgrade? Please answer A.S.A.P.! I LOVE to video edit and I cannot find a program as simple, less laggy and cheap/free as iMovie!

I'm not sure which step solved the issue however I run a security software on my Mac so I disabled that completely.
Then I located iMovie in the APP Store and instead of a button saying BUY it was labeled as INSTALL.
So having done those 2 steps, iMovie went ahead and updated to 10.0.4.
My guess is the security software was blocking the update somehow.

Why does the iMovie update keep reappearing in App Store Updates although I have already installed it?

I installed the iMovie update version 10.0.8 when it became available 4/24/2015 yet it continues to appear as a new update ready for downloading and installation. How can I get rid of this, or is it even necessary to do so? In my dock, it shows that I have a new update that needs attention. I've never encountered this before.

HT4461 imovie update

Has anybody else had the latest imovie update keep showing up? It has downloaded 4 times this month at 1.9gb and now is trying to do it for a 5th time.
I am on a 40gb allowance which I never use up, but this is eating away at the allowance and I dont really want to go unlimited over this!!
Am i being thick, as I cannot find a way to clear the notification and it just bugs me on the dock constantly?!

IPhoto & iMovie update not available with this Apple ID

Hi everyone - I'm at a loss as to how to fix this issue...
I'm trying to update iPhoto and iMovie from the Mac App Store but I get the following error message:
Update unavailable with this Apple ID: This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I've read the other threads about the apps being 'linked' to previous Apple IDs so I logged out and back in with an older / previous Apple ID that I had used before but it still wouldn't allow the update to the two apps - in fact the App Store said that the older ID hadn't even been used in the App Store.
I updated my OS to Yosemite yesterday so I don't know if that's affected anything?
Really hope someone can help - it's starting to frustrate me!

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

Won't install iPhoto and iMovie updates

I really hate the apple. I can't open my iPhoto because I downloaded OS X months ago. I am sick of the App Store icon showing I have two updates - iPhone and iMovie - that I can NOT update. Also I am blocked from getting into iPhoto to boot!!!!

iPhoto came preinstalled on your new Mac, right?
Did the Apple Store help you to set up the Mac? Did anybody else help with setting up the Mac? You might accidentally be using an iPhoto version, that you accepted on another Mac with another AppleID. If you only have one AppleID and nobody else helped with setting up the Mac, then the Apple Store may have made a mistake and sold you a refurbished Mac or second hand mac, that has already been setup by someone else. Can you upgrade iMovie? There might be the same problem.
Apple Support should be able to check the Serial Number of your Mac, and see, if it has been previously bound to a different AppleID.

How do you remove an iMovie update from my app store update tab?

The iMovie 10.0 software update (released Oct 22, 2013) appears in my App Store 'updates' tab but it's not compatible with my 'ol 2008 iMac (it doesn't have the correct graphics card). How do I remove the update? I've turned off "auto-update", relauched the app store application, etc, but to no avail.

Apple has released iMovie 10.0.1 that seems to support older video cards. I got it installed on my mid-2007 iMac

Apple OS X Mavericks question:
Having been a loyal Microsoft Windows user since the beginning in 1985, I just recently gave up and moved to an Apple MacBook Pro (Microsoft really messed up with Win 8, IMO).
I really like the machine and OS X.
My question: Does anyone know if you can schedule application updates for a particular time on OS X Mavericks? I must use satellite broadband which has data limits except after 2 AM. I have an application update for iMovie which is 1.97 GB in size and my broadband allotment per day is only 1 GB total (during normal hours before 2 AM).
I would like to schedule the update for the unlimited hours after 2 AM if this is possible.
It appears this may not be an option on OS X, from what I have been able to find. Sorry if this is a "stupid" question. After 29 years of being a Windows power user, it is strange to be a neophyte again! :-)

I have this same problem, and posted about it this early this week, at that time I did not see this solution. Here is how I solved the problem - I mostly use Linux so this is a Mac unix solution.
From darwin ports I installed wget.
Using the apple support download site I selected each update I needed, started the download then immediately canceled the download. In the downloads window I right clicked on the download to get the url.
With the text editor I created a shell script and placed the wget command with the url.
Here is my example script for the updates to iTunes and GarageBand

PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/Users/cow:/us r/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin
cd /Users/cow/Downloads

Save the script in some location like Documents as updates.sh From the terminal do a chmod ugo+rx updates.sh
Then add the script to crontab with the terminal enter crontab -e (It will use vi as the editor) My Entry is:
10 03 * * * /Users/cow/Documents/updates.sh
The next day just comment out your crontab entry.
This will work for all kinds of updates, also good for getting large packages from darwin ports.

New OS x Maverick won't allow iPhone and iMovie updates. Why?

I have just downloaded OS X Maverick and now can't update or access my iphoto or imovie. why and what can I do about it?

Cant download iMovie update 9.0.8

I have only just bought my iMac and it came with Mountain Lion installed, when i finished set up the App Store showed 1 update - iMovie 9.0.8. Everytime I try to download the update a message appears saying "You have updates available for other accounts, to update this application sign in to the account you used to purchase it", but i only have one account? If I sign out and sign back in and then try to install the update it says I need to buy the app first, however it then wont let me buy it.
Please help I have tried looking for a solution online but nothing yet!
