  • Bought iMovie '11 for a Mountain Lion iMac and want iMovie '11 for snow Leopard MacBook but it won't download for Macbook?

    Hello:
I have an iMac that I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I bought iMovie '11 after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I also have a MacBook Pro but don't want to upgrade to Mountian Lion 'cause I don't want to loose Front Row.  So I tried to buy and install iMovie from the App Store on the MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) but when I try to buy it it says that I can't buy it or run on on Snow Leopard it must be on Mountain Lion?  Is there any way to get the down version of iMovie '11 for Snow Leopard from the App Store?  I already paid for this version online.
    Thanks,
    mn3

My guess is that you are out of luck. The latest requirements for iMovie '11, as listed on the App Store, are "OS X 10.7.4 or later". In other words, iMovie '11 (in it's latest iteration) will work only on Lion or Mountain Lion (or later).
My wife's iMac is on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and is running iMovie '11 version 9.0.4. Checking for updates returns the message that iMovie is up to date. So it appears that the last version to run on Snow Leopard is 9.0.4 - hence why you can't download 9.0.8 to Snow Leopard from the App Store. Perhaps you can purchase a boxed version of iLife '11 somewhere (possibly eBay) that has an earlier version of iMovie '11.

  • What exactly is the newest QuickTime version for Snow Leopard

The current download on the Apple.com for quicktime is the version 7.xx, so is for Quicktime pro.
But the version on my new macbook pro is 10.xx
So what exactly is the newest version? And is there a pro version for 10.xx?
PS. I also searched the apple.com for quicktime 10 and it didnt come up with much info.

OK. David thanks. But I would very much appreciate it if you could answer the following 5 questions:
    Still the questions:
    1. Is there a pro version for QT 10?
    2. If not, does _*Quicktime 7 PRO*_ has ALL the functionality the QuickTime 10 has?
    3. if not, can i install a _*Quicktime 7 PRO*_ , while keeping the QT 10? -- i mean: have the both versions on my computer.
    4. Is there a direct download link for Quicktime 7 Pro (full version) (of course i will purchase it)
    5. What is the newest version for Quicktime 7 Pro: 7.xxx?

    5. Snow Leopard is 7.6.3. Windows is 7.6.5 and Tiger and Leopard is 7.6.4.
    Thanks Kirk,

You mean: on Snow Leopard, the i can simultaneously have the both version installed?

I have a SnowLeopard DVD, and I am going to try if i can install QuickTime 7 from the DVD according to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678 , and having my QT 10 already installed.
I will let you know if this will work.

  • Current iMovie '11 for Snow Leopard?

    Hi all,
I'm using an iMac at work that came pre-loaded with iMovie '09. Never had to use it until recently we've started doing some video projects, and I've become extremely frustrated with '09s lack of any sort of normal timeline. I see that '11 offers a timeline once again - great - and was once available for Snow Leopard - even better. But when I hopped into the AppStore I see that the system requirements say OSX 10.7.4 or later... which is Lion.
Is iMovie '11 no longer available for Snow Leopard?
Any suggestions?  I'm at the end of my rope with frustration over this iMovie '09 business, but I don't think my work will spring for Final Cut....
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Matt

So I decieded to try something I took my wife's computer and hooked up my external hard drive to it and copied iMovie11' from her applications folder and then copied it to my applications folder and imovie 11 works offically on 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on both our computers. So it is possible to get imovie11' on your 10.6.8. OS. You just have to fiqured out a way to get a disk or copy it from another computer. We don't have Mountain Lion but you might be able to try and copy from that and install on Snow Leopard.
    Cheers!

  • What is mail version for Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

I had switched to iCloud from MobileMe some months ago. Today opened Mail and iCloud imap acct wasn't there. Then mailboxes loaded  but in prefs the acct is labeled "Mobile Me." And mail version is 4.6. What happened? What to do ?

Snow Leopard has never heard of iCloud so you have to set Mail up manually for the different servers. If you are having problems I suggest deleting the account you have and setting it up from scratch as described here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
You may find it it described as 'Mobileme IMAP" - don't worry about that, as long as you follow the procedure it should work fine.

  • I did a clean install of snow Leopard and now my iWork 09 will not work. does anyone one know where I can download the version for snow Leopard?

I did a clean install of Snow Leopard and now when I reloaded iWork 09 from my timemachine it will not open anything. any ideas.

iWork '09 is still available from the likes of Amazon.
Your experience is why I never trusted downloaded versions when there's a physical DVD available.
It may be possible to reactivate with your code, but I can't advise you as to how.

  • Cant find fresh Safari download for Snow Leopard

I know this should be easy, but my old Safari got deleted and I wanted to download and install the latest version for Snow Leopard. I downloaded the link on the front page of the downloads page and it doesn't work at all. It opens a page and does nothing. I have to force quit to stop Safari.
Where can I find Safari 4? I would then download the update for Safari Snow Leopard, correct?

    HI,
I downloaded the link on the front page of the downloads page and it doesn't work at all. It opens a page and does nothing. I have to force quit to stop Safari.
Safari relies on the OS X framework called WebKit so it's not exactly an application that runs on it's own so just downloading Safari from the Apple site doesn't do the job.
*Reinstall Safari from your Snow Leoaprd disc or your Mac install disc.*
Insert the Snow Leopard install disk. Open the Optional Installs folder, then open Optional Installs.mpkg
An Installer will start... click Continue. When you get to the Installation Type in the window on the right you will see: Applications. Click the Disclosure triangle so it faces down. Select the apps you want to install and click Continue.
When you are finished installing Safari, go to the Apple Menu and click Software Updates. That will bring your new Safari up to date.
    Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Aperture for snow leopard

    Hiya,
I'm considering getting Aperture or Lightroom.  I use snow leopard and have currently no inclination to get lion.  I see the latest and greatest aperture 3.3.1 is available _only_ for lion.  Is it possible to purchase a version for snow leopard?
I found this discussion on getting 3.2.4 by downloading the trial and such, but is this necessary?  Calling apple support and begging for an activation serial code for the trial?
If apple doesn't want my money perhaps I should just get lightroom - any input on this folks?
    thanks!
    shawn

For Snow Leopard, you could do the following if Amazon will ship to your location:
Order Aperture 3 retail DVD from here:
    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MB957Z-A-Aperture-3/dp/B002I0JKSS
Download the Aperture 3.2.4 update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1538
This would give you the highest update level compatible with Snow Leopard. This would give you the ability to reinstall at any time on Snow Leopard as well (the EULA allows installation on 2 computers as long as only one instance is running in RAM at a time).
Note - the unified library feature and new 'Skin Tone' white balance is not part of 3.2.4, but Lightroom doesn't have a 'Skin Tone' white balance either.

  • Installation Options for iMovie HD on Snow Leopard system with iLife '09

Greetings and thank-you for contributing suggestions on what is a well worn subject. I have read many of the posts existing on this topic and am trying to nip some details.
I have a late 2006 iMac that came with Tiger and iMovie HD which is now at version 6.0.3. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard (Boxed Set) I got iLife 09 but, as it was supposed to do, it left me iMovie HD which is what I have used. I have both sets of installation DVD's. (from the iMac and the SL upgrade)
Today I got a new MacMini and am plotting how to get iMovie HD on it.
I gather that I first need to remove iMovie 09 from the Mini. I do that by dragging its application bundle in finder to the trash and removing any receipt packages.
Do I have to remove all of the iLife 09 applications or just iMovie 09?
Then, I reinstall either all of iLife 06 from the iMac DVD or just iMovie HD. After that I can load iLife 09 from the SL DVD. That will leave the iMovie HD on the system but upgrade everything else.
Should I run software update from iMovie HD to try to get the 6.0.3 version or download and run the upgrade image? Does it matter?
I am good to go. Did I miss anything?
I also have a SuperDuper clone of the iMac system. Another possibility is to boot from that and clone it to the new Mini. Does anyone think this is a better idea?
Thanks again for the insights of your experience.

I think the issue is that if you install iMovie 06 on a system with iMovie 09 installed, iMovie 6 has no knowledge that iMovie 09 exists. Therefore iMovie 6 installs itself in the iMovie folder in the Applications Folder and assumes anything in there is old and can be trashed.
Apple fixed this with iMovie 6.04, but this is no longer available.
But if you install iMovie 6 first, and iMovie 9 second, iMovie 9 knows about iMovie 6 and will move it to a folder called "iMovie - Previous Versions".
In your case, I would uninstall iMovie 09 as you started to do, then run the migration assistant, then reinstall iMovie 09.
It should also work to create a folder on your old system called "iMovie - Previous Versions". Drag the iMovie 6 app into this folder and verify that it works. Then do the Migration Assistant. This should work, but I hesitate to recommend it because I have not tested it. Best case, it installs and you did not even have to uninstall iMovie 09. Worst case, delete the iMovie folder and reinstall iMovie 09.
For what its worth, I recently did a Migration Assistant from a SuperDuper clone (after a failed hard disk) that had both iMovie 09 and iMovie 6 installed, and it worked fine. But I have not tried your scenario.
I would use Migration Assistant because then you have the correct version of Snow Leopard for your system. You may not if you use a clone. A new machine may have microcode that is not released to the general release of OSX for several months. If your Mini is a used one and at least 6 months old, a clone should work OK.

I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion with Safari Version 5.0.5. Now I can not update to Safari 5.1. There is no update in the Software Updater, and on the apple-download page, I only found a Safari 5.1 for Snow Leopard. When executing it, there is an error message, that it is for 10.6 only.
It seems that I should have first updated Safari, and then only to Lion, which I didn't. Any idea how I can fix this now without having to rollback to Snow Leopard, update Safari and then go back to Lion?

Try this Safari5.1 from the installer package

The download worked better with Firefox not sure why. At the bottom of the page after the captcha>> slow down load is the Free link,  it took about 4 minutes to download on my test.

  • Is there a working version of xcode for snow leopard out there?

I downloaded v 4.2 from developer.apple and when I try to install it on my computer it says "unknown installation error occurred" and "you may want to contact the software manufacturer."  It doesn't give me anything else...
Similarily, I used adobe flash pro to build my .ipa file and am curious if I even need xcode - is there a working version of Application Loader for Snow Leopard available for download?
    Thanks a bunch.

I need to upload my .ipa file to itunes connect...
I have an older mac with snow leopard 10.6.8 and an old version of Xcode (3.2), but no Application Loader to load my .ipa to itunes connect.  The Application Loader you can download in itunes connect requres OS 10.7 or higher, and I I can't upgrade my OS without increasing RAM.

  • Which version of Snow Leopard to buy for a clean, non-upgrade installation?

I have a MacBook Pro 13”3, Mid 2009, I am the second owner. The computer was originally bought with OS X Leopard and later upgraded to Snow Leopard.
The previous owner does not have any installation discs, so I have to start from scratch.
My question is, which version of Snow Leopard do I need to buy, so I will be able to legally make a clean, stand-alone, non-upgrade installation?
Here are two I found at sites of different Apple Retailers:
    1. Mac Box Set (Including OS X Snow Leopard, iLife 09, iWork09) Single User Pack
    2. Apple Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard Operating System (Family Pack)
I have been told by a salesperson that the “Apple Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard Operating System (Single User)” cannot be purchased in Europe anymore.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Thank you for your input.
I agree that the disks should have been included, but it is what it is, sadly.
I've been looking for the retail version of Snow Leopard, but can't seem to find it. Amazon UK, for example, lists it as unavailable:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/MAC-10-6-3-SNOW-LEOPARD-RETAIL/dp/B003HAFZQO/ref=sr_1_11 ?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1314374218&sr=1-11
If I buy the Family Pack, which is still available at some European stores, will I be OK, license-wise?
It is still much cheaper than the full Mac Box Set.

  • What is the latest version of XCode for Snow Leopard?

I have XCode 4.0.2 for Snow Leopard installed.  Is that the latest version available for Snow Leopard?
Is Apple pushing us to upgrade to Lion to get a version newer than 4.0.2.  I see that XCode 4.2 is available for Lion.
    David.

This information might be useful for those who are not members of the $99/year iOS Developer Program.  I am not a member, I have Snow Leopard, and I purchased Xcode 4.0 for $5 from the Mac App Store in March 2011.  Just for fun I searched the app store for Xcode.  As expected, the only search result is Xcode 4.2 with stated minimum requirement 10.7 (Lion).  I am curious why it even shows Snow Leopard users the active Free button that implies I can download it.  I don't know how the app store works but I assume it would not let me install this on 10.6 Snow Leopard.
But the Purchased view shows Xcode for Snow Leopard.  I noticed the button on the right showed Update rather than Installed.  Clicking the item name to find details including the version number shows Your request could not be completed.  I decided to update in hopes this would be 4.2.  I deleted Install Xcode from my Applications folder, restarted the App Store, then pressed the Update button.  1.77GB later I have Install Xcode in my Applications folder, preview shows version 4.2 (used to show 4.0.2),
The installer just finished running, I now have Xcode 4.2 build 4C199.  About Xcode.pdf in the Developer folder starts with Developer tools for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and iOS 5.  So this is clearly not exactly the same as Xcode 4.2 for Lion.  It does include the iOS 5 SDK, LLVM 3.0, etc.  Not sure what is different in the Lion build.
