IMovie voice-over

Hi   I'm in the middle of an iMovie project on a MacBook Pro runnining Mountain Lion 10.8.2    I am trying to get some voice overs into the project, under certain stills-shots,   Some play on playback in the project window some are silent.   Will they rtender properly when I finanlise the movie.   I shall be publishing movie on my website.
Thanks in advance for assistance

Hi Jim - Welcome to the forum!
I understand that when a voice-over is trashed and another voice-over is substituted, iMovie retains the same name for both, with the resultant confusion you are experiencing. The workaround is apparently to drag the original discarded voice-over to a temporary storage spot maybe at the end of your movie - then the new voice-over will be assigned a different name. At the end of the editing session, you can then trash the discarded voice-over.
Hope that helps.

  • Is there a way to restore deleted voice overs in iMovie 11?

I recorded something through iMovie 11 once and then accidentally deleted it. It's no longer in my project. Is there a way to somehow retrieve this audio file? Does a voice over file even exist on the mac, or does it only exist on the project screen, something that can be gone for good if you press "delete?" If an actual file does exist, where can I find it on the mac? Spotlight won't help.

You need to select the Blue Yeti as your input device.
First go to System Preferences/Sound and click on Input Device. Make sure your Blue Yeti is in the list and selected. Make sure the red light is on on your Blue Yeti. After a period of unuse, it may turn itself off.
Then, in iMovie, start your Voiceover session by pressing the Microphone on the middle toolbar. You will get a screen like this where you can choose the Blue Yeti.
    Then follow the instructions here.

After you have recorded your voiceover, you can select the Voiceover Track and make additional adjustments in the Audio Inspector. For example you can use the Graphic Equalizer.
Having said all that, Garageband is a great tool if you need even more adjustments. You can export your movie to the Media Browser and do this in GarageBand, or, you can record a voice track in Garageband, render it as AIFF, and use it in IMovie.

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

This particular project is made up entirely of still photos with Ken Burns moves and dissolves between each photo. As I got further into the project, the voice over audio started stuttering, and now it hardly plays at all with a motorboat sound when it does play. I've also started added music with the dsame audio problem. I'm running on a Mac PowerBook 2GHz using System 10.6.8. I have IMovie version 9.0.4. The project file size is 588 Mb. I have 274 Gb of hard disc space left. I have shut off all other running programs and even disconnected from the internet, but nopthing seems to help. I acts like it's a memory problem of some sort, but all other applications run fine.

  • How do i trim a voice over recording in imovie?

I am making an imovie with the most recent updated imovie software. I have recorded about 30 minutes of voice over...now I need to trim it as there are bloopers and mistakes...it is possible to edit that recorded voice over or no? I can't seem to find a way to do it.HELP, PLEASE!!!

This worked in the previous version, and I believe it still works, but I have not tested.
Select the Voiceover track. Move the playhead to where you want to split the track and type command-shift-s.
Move to the other trim point and type command-shift-s. Now you can delete the portion you wanted to trim.

  • How Do I Add A Pre-recorded Voice Over to an iMovie Project?

I have an audio file with the voice over I want to add to my movie project (which has an insturmental music track I want to duck during the voice over). How can I add this pre-recorded voice over track to my project?

You can drag in the voiceover file and drop it on top of the clip where you want it to start. It does not have to be perfectly placed, because you can fine tune it later by dragging.
I would suggest putting your voiceover file in iTunes and dragging in from the music browser, but it also works to drag in from the Finder. If you drag in from the Finder, you must take care not to move it later, or the iMovie Project will not be able to find it.

  • I am trying to record a voice over in my imovie project

I was always able to record a voice over in imovie in the past, but on my most recent project which has 240 photos in it and a little video, I am no longer able to record voice over. I was able to record voice over for a little bit, but then it stopped working. I tried going on another project and was able to record a voice over. I am thinking that the problem may be that the project is too big. What do you guys think?

Try highlighting the thumbnail of the slide you want to play, before clicking 'play'.

  • In iOS iMovie, can I create a new voice over track while listening to the video clip's audio?

Can I hear the original track of a video clip while adding a voice over using iOS iMovie?  When I try to record a voice over for a clip that already has video, the video's audio is muted.

Forget it-- I figured it out.

  • Voice overs in GB- iMovie

Well, I've been trying to get a decent recording for a voice over in GarageBand. So far so good. Except there's just too much fuzz in the background. I use a microphone line-in. I have my voice set on 'male speech'. It sounds good when I listen to it, but it makes a huge difference when I throw it into my timeline in iMovie. It just doesn't jell with my sound FX, music, etc. So I decided to do a straight voice over into iMovie with the internal microphone. I didn't get the fuzz (ambient noise) but I sure didn't get the recording I got in GB. Are there any precautions I can take to avoid this unwanted noise. Many thanks.

    I use a microphone line-in.
    that's the problem:
