IMovie wants to save iMovie Events at root level of local harddisk

I work on a network user. When I want to import movies from my camera iMovie wants to save the clips at /iMovie Events.localized. How can I change the destination folder.
When I start iMovie only the iMovie Projects folder is created. The iMovie Events folder is not created. I tried to delete the preferences for iMovie7 in ~/Library/Preferences but no success. iMovie still wants to store all clips at root directory. When I create the iMovie Events folder at root level and grant access to it, the import works.
Any suggestions how to get rid of that?
Thanx in advance
Gerhard

If you're copying a movie file directly from a camcorder to place it on your hard disc (..as distinct from "importing" from the camera into iMovie..) then iMovie may recognise the locally-stored file as a camcorder's material only if it's in the root directory.
HOWEVER, you can tell iMovie to put its imported iMovie Events folder wherever you want: I keep mine on a separate internal hard disc (..we-ell, a couple of fast hard discs combined as a 'RAID'..) on my G5 PowerMac.
The iMovie program itself is in 'Applications' on the startup hard disc, the iPhoto Library (..for importing stills..) is on a second internal hard disc, and the iMovie Events folder is on the RAID disc.
That way, the Mac can import video without affecting the main hard disc, and any 'housekeeping' or indexing which the system wants to do on that disc.
Normally, iMovie will put your iMovie Events folder in the 'Movies' folder of your own User identity. How did I get mine on my RAID drive..? It's so long ago that I don't remember.. But I think that I just dragged it there from its original place, and when iMovie later said that it couldn't find it, it also asked where to look, and I just pointed it to the RAID drive. Runs OK for me.

  • How do I save an event as a separate clip?

I'm sure the solution is obvious to everyone but me, but I'm too frustrated to think straight.  I had all my video tapes put on DVDs (mpeg 4 format).  Each tape is a single mpeg file, so there are many separate (and unrelated) scenes in a single file.  I've put a file into iMovie '11 as an m4v file and I've separated the scenes into separate events.
Now, I want to save each event to disk so I can better organize and find them when I put together projects.  I can't seem to figure out how to do that.  I'd appreciate any help.

iMovie's Event Library is meant to do just that - allow you to organize your clips just as you have.
As you create a new Porject, just drag the Events you want to use into it. Each Event can be used in as many different Projects as you like.
    Gidlet wrote:

iMovie has already done that for you. All your Events are collected in your home a folder called iMovie Events located in your home Movies folder.
If you do want to create a separate file for each Event you could do so by first creating a Project and then use the Share>Export to output it to a movie file. But, by doing so, you basically duplicating what iMovie has already done.

  • CS6/Yosemite: in Safari when opening a PDF and want to save the pop-up is english while the system language is german

    Hi,
I installed end November last year on my new iMac the CS6 Master Collection. The language and country ist german. All menus and titles are correct. In Safari (8.0.2) PDFs are shown with Acrobat instead of the preview. When I want to save the PDF the pop-up window where to save the file is in english instead of german. How can I set it to be displayed in german?
All menu-items are german, clicking the floppy-symbol will open the shown window. The list-items on the left side are in german but all labels, buttons and titles are english.

If you are printing to physical printer from Safari : Use Reader print button from Reader toolbar
If you want to save a PDF from Safari to your local : Use Reader Save button from the Reader toolbar.
PS: if you have PDF in read mode the  hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and the floating Reader toolbar will appear.
Please let me know if this solves your issue.

  • I want to remove iMovies from my computer to save space. How can I be sure I have saved all my work in iMovie?

I have a lot of old iMovie projects that are taking up a lot of space on my hard drive. What do I need to copy to another drive in order to trash them on my computer? I might want to work them again, but not in the near future. I made DVDs of my project, but I might want to keep clips in case I want to work on them some more.

1 TB of harddrive space actually <60€ .. drag'n drop files, done. instant access for future projects.
    1 TB of DVD disk space (4.4GB x 230 pieces, each ~50¢) = ~115€ + hours of work .. hours of re-importing in future use ...
=> I prefer ext. HDD.. 1TB fits ~ 75h miniDV, or 40-60h HiDef imported (using the 'Archive' feature of iM09 much more) ..

  • How can I save iMovie projects that are in process to my external hard drive?

I am working on several iMovie projects that won't be finalized until I have collected all raw footage.  I want to save what I have done thus far to my external hard drive.  I have tried to click and drag tot he drive but it won't drop.  What am I missing?

OK you need to click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK in iMovie. Then you can drag within iMovie. You must hold the Command key down as you drag, or you will COPY not MOVE.
If you are trying to save space, the large files are in the Events. You can also move them by Command Drag within iMovie.

  • I want to use iMovie 6 on my new MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5. It won't download. Can I download Snow Leopard instead and use iMovie 6 with that older OS?

I have a MacBook Pro I recently purchased 'cause my old G4 just couldn't output my video films properly. My new MacBook Pro is running 10.7.5 OS Lion. Don't like iMovie 11 and want to use iMovie 6. It won't download on Lion. Could I download Snow Leopard (deleting OS 10.7.5) and use iMovie 6 then? I saw a previous thread that said that could be done.

AppleMan...I have the same iMac you have...i-7 16GB with a SSD....just bought it second hand and it is about 1.5 years old....it was maxed out with upgrades when the original owner bought it.  It was also restored back to factory settings prior to me taking possession.
I am making home movies in iMovie 11....max length 30 minutes or less.  I am totally new to this editing.  I am using HD footgage filmed from my Hero GoPro 3.  I am finding that the movies that I am creating are skipping, staggering, hanging up etc...usually where I had transitions.  I am certain I have enough power and memory in my iMac, so what's the issue?  I read one of your other posts about optimizing each event or clip to 1080p?  Is this what I need to do for every clip I import?  Can I do this for all the clips at once on import?  I also read that I may need to export the movie to quick time for smooth playback??
Any help you can provide would be appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Matt

  • How can I get iMovie to automatically save to my external hard drive?

I am trying to use my external hard drive for iMovie because my movies were cramping up my hard drive. I already moved them and that worked fine. The only problem is that I don't know how to get iMovie to automatically save to the hard drive now. I don't want to have to keep moving the files from my movies folder to the hard drive.

Do this on the import screen. Look toward the bottom.

  • Imovie slow to save to file

When I want to Share iMovie project to file it takes over 10 hours for it to process to the theatre or file as an mp4? Why does it take 10 hours to share a project in iMovie????? All of this program is slow, it is not user friendly, and like PC items I have to keep purchasing new programs to burn a DVD or avi file? I can't just download from carmera and burn a avi DVD? Why is this not easy?

hi, i couldn't follow all this but
how much free space do you have
highlight your hard drive icon and command+i (get info)
    how many GB are Available
    next,
have you booted off the Install DVD and ran
    Disk Utility> Repair Disk
do you have any results (errors) in red text
if Disk Utility can't repair them check out DiskWarrior (or Erase, restore backup)
have you created a New User account and tested
have you ran the latest Apple COMBO UPDATE for your operating system
have you ran all Apple and Adobe updates
have you used a utility like Cocktail OSX to clear your caches and run all your maintenance scripts
have you reset (zapped) the PRAM and rest the logic board (may be called a PMU reset on an iMac, not sure)
have you added any 3rd party software that may interfer with the OS-Finder
have you added any photoshop plugins
check (can you post a similar screenshot of your plugins):
(to take a screenshot, Shift+Option+4 and drag the area you want, then Insert Image on your response)
Lastly, if nothing else works, you may be better served by Erasing your HD and starting over (Time Machine backup may save your bacon unless the problem was backed up into your backup)...

  • Help, imovie won't save clips

    Hi,
I'm new to imovie, but it doesn't seem to want to save any clips I import into a project. I save the project, go to open it and the clips are in the trash! It won't save anything on the timeline either.... Also if I edit a clip, save, then close and re-open the clip is unedited and in the trash.
Is there a way to fix this? I need to close imovie at some point and come back to a project at a later date, I can't keep re-editing everything!
    Help & thanks in advance.

I'm having this same problem with iMovie 6.0.3. It's happening on all eight eMacs (10.4.11) in my computer lab, so it's not an isolated incidence. I have the student import DV clips from a DVD. They work on them - trimming, renaming, putting in the time line - and then save the project to the hard drive. When they come back to work on it the next day, they get this message: error message. All the work they've done is undone, and the clips are all in trash. It will let me move them out, but if I save, exit and reopen, they're all back in the trash. HELP!
I deleted the preferences, but it still doesn't work. I did a search for iMovie, and deleted any thing that had been edited in the last few days, figuring something may have gotten corrupted, but this is happening on eight systems? What are the chances of eight systems all becoming corrupt at the same time?! Could this be an issue with a recent software update?
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • I want to consolidate iMovie content from 3 differet versions of OSX to an external HD.  How?

I am about to get a new MacPro.  I need to consolidate my iMovie content from Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion all onto one external HD.  Where do I look for the files I need to back up, what files do I need and is there any APP that  will assist me in consolidating them into the new iMovie in Mavericks?

Presumably you have been using iMovie 9.
First you should consolidate your media from within iMovie 9 on the hard drive it is on now so that the iMovie events and projects folders have copies of everything you need and no links which will break when you move it to another disk.   See:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9
You can then copy the folders to the root level of your external hard drive.
When you connect this hard drive to your mac Pro (I'm jealous!), imovie 10 should 'see' the folders and offer to update your projects and events to an imovie 10 library.  See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6012?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you have a lot of projects and media it may be best not to update everything at once but in stages.  Each update session will go into a different library.    I can explain further if necessary.
    Geoff.

  • Can't Save iMovie 09 Video Project

I tried importing clips from my new Canon Vixia RF-H10 camcorder into iMovie 09. No problem. I created a new video project and dragged clips from events, trimmed clips, added titles and transitions. Smooth as silk. I tried publishing the video project to Media Browser. Done and done. But when I quit iMovie 09 and re-open my video project (which is listed in my "Movies" folder and appears in the Project list in iMovie), my edited clips, titles, and transitions aren't there! I need to begin all over again! What am I doing wrong? (I can't find any "Save" command).

    Hi Richard,
There is no Save command in iMovie '09 - it's supposed to save automatically. However, there have been other reports on the forum about projects not being saved. This happened to me once, but had only a minor impact on my work, thankfully. There must be a particular set of circumstances that sometimes causes iMovie not to save.
Probably all I can offer is to delete (trash) iMovie's preference file. It's found in your user Home>Library>Preferences folder and is named "com.apple.iMovie8.plist". Close iMovie before doing this. When next opened, iMovie will create a new file with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference. Trashing the file will not damage your Projects or Events but may fix iMovie's odd behaviour.

  • Can iMove files be save on iCloud or on a WebDAV sever also can you add a password lock in Apple config

I have a cart of iPads in my high school. Each iPad is shared by several students in different classes throughout the day. A clever student in one class decided to lock one of them. We have already unlocked it by restoring it, etc., but I'd like to prevent this from happening in the future.
How can I save iMove projects with out pluging the device into a computer?
is there a way in apple configurator to make the wallpaper unchangeable?

    Hi xxsaphy,
There is no way to get around the Activation Lock. This is a security measure that was added to iDevices with iOS7 to protect the original owner of the device:
    ACTIVATION LOCK
If you found it on the bus, then turn it in to the bus company. If it was a school bus, turn it in to the school. This device is of no use to anyone except the owner, and the most likely places they are going to look for it is where they may have lost it. Imagine if you lost your iPhone and you knew that the last time you remember using it was before you went on the bus. Wouldn't the first thing you would do would be to call the bus company to see if it had been turned in?
    Cheers,

  • IMovie 10 won't display events and projects like previous versions

I upgraded to iMovie 10.  Now I can't view an event in the upper left and the projects at the bottom.  This is very critical as I'm creating projects out of home movies.  I have to be able to look at an event and make sure I've used every part of it to create the projects clips from it.

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

  • In iMovies, can I arrange the events in date order, i.e. year and/or month that the movies relate to?

In iMovies, can I arrange the events in the Events Library in date order, e.g. 1994 - Sports Day; 1991 - John's christening; 1993 - Christmas?

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.
