IMovie will launches into a black screen

Can anyone tell me what to do when iMovie launches into a black screen...the only way to quit is by force quiting.
iMovie will launch as another user.

Mac-Billy,
You should let the battery drain at least once a month.  That said, see this article.  Bring the computer into the Apple Store and see what they say.

i have iphoto previously installed. running  but when i have synced my iphone4 the iphoto app. cant be launched anymore. a black screen with the hourglass running till it quits automatically.  What should be the problem???

Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home/() Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Thanks for the straightforwardness roaminggnome - I wasn't sure if this problem qualified as deseving a reset. Unfortunately, for some reason I can't explain, your response remained undisclosed to me for a while, the next reply after yours took preference and I ended up doing as Meg St.Clair's susgested and initiated download, installation and syncing of Smartsync which is now taking ages to finish... If problem persists shall do the resetting and restoring.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca _ CAPS + NUM LOCK Continually Blinks + Will not Start up Black Screen

Would appreciate any suggestions on the issue I am encountering.
I have an HP Pavilion DV7-1428ca that was left powered on, so it went into Safe mode (screen goes blank). Once I came back to my Laptop hitting any key would take out of of the Safe mode however this time it did not. It remained with black screen irregardless of buttons pressed.
Had booted and can hear the fan and hdd go for the 2secs then it stops to a Black Screen with the "CAPS + NUM LOCK" Continually Blinking. Tried to Hard Boot several times but the same thing re-occurs.
It does not seem to be blinking in a series a code, just a steady blink (every sec) for both the CAPS + NUM Lock for as long as I leave it on. HP Site provides a chart from 1-6 series of blink codes which does not seem to apply to me.
Being out of Warranty I am hesitant in bringing it to a local repair shop without trying any alternate trouble shooting first.
    Thanks

    Hi,
First of all, shutdown the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter unplugged, remove the battery, and then hold down the Power button for a full minute.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out ) and see if the notebook will start.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Using Bootcamp: Windows 7 won't launch, goes to black screen.

    21.5-inch, Mid-2010 iMac, running OSX Mountain Lion, v. 10.8.2
I currently have Bootcamp running Windows 7, for some windows specific programs. Last night, while using windows, I was prompted to install some updates. One of which required a system restart. Upon restarting (holding alt/option to select the Windows partition), I wound up stuck on a black screen, with only the cursor (and a "working" icon off and on) after seeing the initial Windows logo.
It would seem, to me, that the issue lies within the update requiring restart. However, now that it's stuck on this point, I'm not sure how to proceed, other than removing Windows 7 and basically recreating the partition, but I'm hoping there's a better way to do this than starting over entirely.
I'm considering changing my boot camp launch settings to launch directly to Windows, to see if that will allow the update process to complete properly.
    I'll post with an update.

Boot from Windows 7 DVD next time.
Monitor hardware fans, temps, RAM, hard drives.
    Install InputRemapper
    Run memtest
    update the gpu driver
make sure to have large enough disk space
Check points for restores are very helpful
what do you run ? games? Office?
Assumption is you installed Apple (Boot Camp) drivers 3.04-3.3
No reason to and a reinstall is unlikely to help.
Also, use Malwarebytes plus a good AV suite, MS Security Essentials is free and pretty solid (but still needs MB from what I have seen).

  • After errors with disk partition, I removed Windows from my iMac. Now when I start my computer it goes into a black screen and not straight into the Mac area like it used to, unless I hold Alt straight away to give me the option.  Any help?

    Hi,
Sorry, I'm new to the community, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.
OK, so I tried to install Windows Vista onto my iMac with the disk partition.  Everything was going fine and it wasn't until last minute, when it was installed that an error came up saying that this can only be done with Windows 7.  After this error, I couldn't access any errors of my iMac and when I shut down and restarted my computer, it automatically logged into Windows.
So after a panic, I rang Apple Care and the lady helped me log into my apple area, delete Windows from my iMac, and all was restored.
However, now when I shut down my computer and boot it back up, I think my iMac is trying to log into Windows areas that no longer exist.  It loads up a black screen and doesn't move from there.  To log into my Apple area, I have to do the whole process of holding Alt immediately after I switch the power on and access the Mac drive and log in that way.
It's beginning to become a real pain and I'm paranoid this process is going to damage my computer.  Any advice on how to restore logging-in back to it's former glory when I first purchased it?
    Thanks

Solved it.  Thank you very much for that!

I restarted it a few times and tried to connect it to itunes and restore it, but it doesn't work, it starts the restoring process but after a while it fails and error 4013 appears on my Mac's screen. Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IMovie transitions are rendering as black screen.

I am having problems with iMovie 6 on an iMac intel core 2 duo 2ghz on the iMac. The transitions are all rendering as black. I did not install any new transitions or effects but only using the standard ones that come with the installer. The iMove version  is 6.0.3. It goes along as regular rendering because of the red horizontal progress bar but when I view it, the entire transition is just a black screen.

Thanks, all the standard transitions that come with stock iMovie 6 exhibit the black. The black is the exact same length of the actual transition, the rest of the clips are fine. I downloaded the files directly from a SD card reader originally from a sony HD camera, the originals were in AVCHD format. Funny that the same project on a G4 powerbook using the same iMovie version renders them fine. I just prefer the intel iMac for it's speed in rendering. I tried trashing the imovie preferences but with no luck.

  • Won't boot into system (Black screen/ backlight on) -  faulty logic board?

My iBook g4 12" 1.33 Ghz doesn't want to boot into the system.
    1. Start computer (chime sound)
    2. Apple logo on grey background appears
    3. Spinning wheel below Logo appears
    4. Screen flicker, big vertical zigzag appears, black screen (backlight is on)
    5. Shift key work (led on/off)
    6. Num Lock key works (led on/off)
    7. no responses with any other keys on keyboard
    What I tried so far
    1. Reset PRAM & NVRAM & PMU
    2. Put original installer disc in, press C start from DVD - same as above happens
    3. Boot from external hard drive with operating system over Firewire - same as above happens
    4. Mounted iBook drive as external drive with target mode - Other computer boots fine with iBook drive
    5. Attached an external monitor, which doesn't get a signal
    6. Run Hardware test over DVD - Diagnostics all fine (Screen fine all the time, running through all diagnostics)
    7. Tried pressing on the graphic chip, as some forum entries suggest - didn't change anything
    8. Start in Safe mode with [shift key] - no indication that in safe mode, same faults
    9. Start in [single-mode] (see image http://www.somethingonline.org/dl/pb/singlemode.jpg)
Don't know what else to try
    Any help appreciated

By booting off of various other drives (optical and external HD) and getting the same results, I think you are correct in assuming that something else is wrong in the hardware. You might make a call to one of the places that repairs books (like the ones in back of MacWorld) and see what they charge to diagnose and repair. But it may just be time to get a new machine. I'm in the same place myself right now; my G4 iBook seems to be on the way out.

  • Windows 10 upgrade was in progress - WIll not boot - Completely black screen

I have seen this problem before with my laptop. Under Windows 7, I would simply disconnect the power cord from my laptop and remove the battery. Then I would wait a few seconds, replace the battery and plug the power cord back in. My laptop would then boot up windows 7. Over the past few years, I have only had to do this two or three times. Yesterday, from the task bar tray at the bottom of my Windows 7 desktop,  I found that my free Windows 10 upgrade was available from Microsoft and that an installation could be scheduled. I followed all the prompts until I reached the Windows 10 upgrade screen that said "Working on it" with a large spinning icon. I waited for several minutes when I assumed that it was probably loading the new OS.  I left my laptop alone for several hours. Today I went to start my laptop and I can hear the fan, the usual self-test noise from one of the drives, but nothing at all on the screen. Pitch black. I removed the battery and unplugged. Replaced battery and plug. Pressed the on button. But there is never anything on the screen at any moment. No cursor, logos, absolutely nothing. I don't have a reboot or repair disk. If someone can offer a suggestion, I will be very grateful.

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read about your HP Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup.  I know that you had already reset the Notebook, I would suggest following this document and performing a hard reset. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. I also have a couple troubleshooting documents for you called Computer Does not Start and Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.  You could also Test for Hardware Failures. The HP System Diagnostics provides access to a comprehensive set of tests to check for hardware failures.  Do you see any LED Lights blinking/flashing on the Notebook? If so here is a document called Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code.  Hope this helps!

  • Brand New Out Of Box Satellite C655-S5307 Will not turn on , black screen

    I got this http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/satellite/C650/C655-S5307/
A Toshiba 655-5307 laptop for my sis for Christmas.
She said she charged the thing overnight and went to turn it on, the green led power light came on I heard fans come on, black screen then shutdown.
I got this laptop 1300 miles away while I was working out of state thought it would be a great gift.
Please tell me this is a minor problem and easy to fix

try to keep turning the laptop on while it has a charge and is unplugged until the battery completely dies and leave it to sit for 5 days unplugged but with the battery inserted.  Dont touch it or try to turn it on while it sits and the batt loses its charge.  Then plug it in and see the orange charging light.  immediately hit the power button.  The pc may try to boot and fail, but it might actually boot for real!  mine did.  I have seen this problem in this particular model posted all around the internet.  But it seems to turn on only if the battery is completely dead.  hmm.

  • IPhone 3gs will not go past black screen with apple?

I was sending a picture txt msg, had 16% battery and phone died. I plugged it in, and let it charge maybe 15-20 mins went and looked at it and the black screen with the apple was on (usually that does come on once enough battery has been charged and right before phone turns back on) . I tried to shut it off once it was stuck on that screen for a few mins, but the turn off screen wouldnt turn back on (the one with the red slide bar) so I then held down the sleep button at the top of phone and the round home button on the face of the phone, and the little logo came on to connect with itunes. I connected with my itunes, and it said a device was recognized to be restored (something along those lines), I tried to restore the phone, it went through all steps but then comes up with an error saying it cant be restored...any ideas or is this phone completely done??

3194 usually means one of the following:
You don't have the latest version of iTunes
You are trying to downgrade the phone to a version lower than 5.0.1
Your phone has been jailbroken or hacked to use with a carrier other than the carrier it is locked to

  • Why does my iPhone 3GS keep powering off into a black screen with what looks like a barcode displayed?

My iPhone 3GS keeps powering off at any point when between 5 and 50% battery remains.
I could be in the middle of texting, receiving a call or using an app when all of a sudden the screen goes black and very faint randomly distributed lines are visible from the top of the screen to the bottom. The display looks a little like a barcode. I am then unable to restart the phone without plugging it into a power supply. I've looked on the Internet and cannot find a similair case.
It is so frustrating and I am continually thinking it will crash at any point.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
