  • My Imovie won't export a movie I created, my laptop won't support new software.  I need to reinstall the program but don't know how.

I would like to reinstall Imovie onto my MacBook and don't know how.

iMovie is part of iLife. It should be on the #2 gray instalation disk that came with your MacBook

  • IMovie won't export "missing media" and now won't import archived footage either?

    Hello,
I made a movie in iMovie 10.0.3, and tried to export it to "file". It came up fine in the Theatre, but when I exported it to "file" a message about "missing media" came up, and when I tried to play it (tried to burn it to DVD), a further message about "quicktime not recognising the format" came up. It was saved as an mp4 file. I thought I would try and delete all the original footage and reimport it from the external HDD (where it was saved as archived footage), however when I plug the HDD in, the previously imported clips don't come up. I've emptied the trash to try and help (clutching at straws!), and was wondering if anyone could offer advice on how to a. export the movie successfully or b. reimport the clips so I can make the movie again (long and tedious, but possibly the only way?).
    Thanks in advance.
ps this is my first time posting, so please be gentle with a newbie!

Found the solution myself! All I needed to do was turn off the Time Machine. I have no idea why it does that. Finally, I can use iMovie again! Apple should really fix that though.

  • Flash CS4 won't export to .mov PLEASE HELP ME!!

Like the title says, i've been trying to export my .fla as a .mov from the Export>Export Movie option in the File menu. It will start exporting but once the progress meter gets to the end it just stops and never finishes.
I don't think it has anything to do with:
    A: multiple scenes
B: actionscript directing to each scene
    C: movieclips
since I was doing the exact same thing in CS3 without a problem.
What i'm doing now in CS4 that I wasn't in the CS3 version:
    A: Motion tweens
B: importing .ai files to my library
C: using symbols created for flash in illustrator from imported .ai files.

Thank you Zombie. Specifying the length helped me export as a quicktime movie.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rubbish piece of coding in Flash CS4 that doesn't let you export a movie over 1 minute long without specifying the length of movie.
Ridiculous really. I expect this could be fixed in seconds by Adobe, but instead I'm left trawling the internet for hours wasting budget.

  • IMovie won't export a 3 picture movie (no video)

Having problems with my mac recently (actually my wife's mac).  For years she has been doing movies with iMovie and iDVD and loves it overall.  However, on her recently new (month old), she has a Macbook Pro, 16 gig ram, 2 gig video ram 750gig flash SSD drive storage, OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 latest patches, etc.  She for some reason can NOT do an export of a movie.  It is complaining about not enough memory.
So, from other posts, I did the sodu purge as admin user and cleared the memory file cache that was 6 gig... brought it back down to about 500k -- more reasonable.  I then started iMovie to publish and it still failed.  As soon as iMovie started, the file cache kicked back up to 3 gig which does not make sense.  So I exited iMovie, re-purged and restarted iMovie.
I then created a new project.  Put 3 single pictures in it -- no video at all.  Then did publish and it nagged again about not enough memory.  I even had the export down to mobile device output for smallest possible (vs HD1080 format).
It is like it has something permanently stuck in its craw and won't let go.
Now, another few things... I have done a full logout AND full shutdown SEVERAL TIMES and it still won't allow a published export.
    Please help !!

  • IMovie 10.0.7 won't export my movie.

I have restarted, shut off time machine, removed a fast motion clip, I have enough HD space and I still get error -50.   Please help!

I'afraid it was a mistake to remove the event from the library using the Finder.  (It is never a good idea to mess with the contents of libraries with the Finder).  It would have been better to move the event from within iMovie to a different library then move that library to some external storage to free up space.
You can't replace the event with the Import function - that is for adding clips to an event.
Libraries containing events from earlier versions of iMovie should be updated automatically, (after you accept a notification that they need to be updated) but you now have an event that iMovie no longer "knows about" and which contains projects which are also out of date.   At least you have the original media from the event back but I don't know how you can restore the projects unless you have a backup of the library from the earlier version of iMovie that contains the problem event.
probably not a solution but I hope this helps.
    Geoff.

  • IMovie won't export to Vimeo

Trying to upload a 720p movie -  data appears to be moving - Activity Monitor shows 5 GB of data uploaded, iMovie never finishes. Exported movie to desktop, then uploaded with Safari. 11 other movies exported to Vimeo with iMovie prior to this attempt.

Occasionally this happens with Facebook, YouTube or Vimeo. With YouTube the problem has more often been related to the Login credentials but occasionally will fail to upload like what you saw. Unfortunately the only work around is EXACTLY what you did, export to desktop and upload through a web browser. From reading other messages on the iMovie Discussion Group, I have not seen one original poster write back to the group with a fix or steps they took to re-enable the uploads through iMovie. It seems like it's more often the case it works, and works, then it doesn't work. And fails to work after that.

  • Imovie won't export 1080p...

Hi Folks, I understand this topic has been discussed before but all previous solutions have not worked for me so, want to see if anyone in 2015 has any new insights. This is a long one, My apologies upfront.
I have footage shot from 3 different cameras: a Canon 5mkII, GoPro Hero 4 Black, and a Sony VG-30. All set to 1080p 24fps....cool?....cool.
The Sony VG30 records in AVCHD which is a friggin nightmare file format. I had a lot of trouble getting a solid conversion to .mov that said I did successfully convert them to usable .mov. I have double checked the files in quicktime to verify that they are all 1080p files. HOWEVER The formats appear to be different. Would this create an issue for a final export?? Here are the specs for each camera:
    - Gopro: GoPro AVC ENcoder, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    - Canon 5dkII: H.264, 1920x1080 Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian sign... (that's all quicktime shows)
Ok so the Sony VG30, Like i said I had a **** of a time getting a solid conversion, it seemed the longer clips needed a different conversation than the shorter ones, I had to do 3 different conversions to get all the footage into something usable here are the 3 formats:
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to .mp4 with Adobe Lightroom: AVC Coding, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz Stereo (L R)
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to aac.mov with "Free AVCHD to MOV" (from app store): H.264, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to prores.mov with "Free AVCHD to MOV" (from app store): Apple ProRes 422, 1920x1080 Linear PCM, 32 bit little-endian floati...(that's all quicktime shows)
Ok so we are on the same page. We have verified that all the files are 1080p.
in iMovie I have a created a black 1920x1080 background as the first clip to start the video. As I understand it, iMovie uses the first clip to determine the movies resolution. additionally the 2nd clip comes from the Canon, which I've never had issues with. So we can rule that out too.
The last thing I did was duplicate the movie and remove all clips from the Sony and GoPro camera. This is where it gets strange. I removed clips one at time, and in between each clip removal I checked the export setting to see if 1080p became available. After removing ALL the sony and Gopro clips, 1080p WAS Available!!!!!
    BUT!!!!!
As this point the only clips in the movie were from the Canon, This is my primary camera and never have an issue like this. Thinking the problem was solved I started adding clips from just the Canon, after adding a few clips i check the export settings again and 1080p is GRAYED OUT!!!! ***!!! only 720p is available.
So this is where I'm at. I have no clue why this thing is stuck at 720p. It defies logic and I'm really stressing out. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. I'm at a point where I starting from scratch is practically not an option. I'm assuming the formats has something to do with it, If someone could tell me which is the incompatible format, swapping out the clips isn't that bad, but right now, I'd spend hours in trial and error to figure out which clips are the wrong format. It would be a huge help. Thank you in advance!
    --RC

Just an update, on the duplicate movie i made, I deleted all clips EXCEPT the 1920x1080 background image in the first clip position, and the export option is still stuck at 720p!
    unbelievable....
It's clear that the movies inaccessible metadata or preferences are locked up at 720p. Why on earth did they take away "export using quicktime"??? ARGH! so frustrating.

  • IMovie Doesn't Export My Movie !!!

Hi, I've Been working on iMovie for a while, but today, I tried to export a 20 min. movie to a high quality with DV-PAL 25 FPS, it does export but it only play 9 second of the movie !!!
the file size is nearly 5 GB !!
    I really need help !

it does export but it only play 9 second of the movie
What happens then? Program quits? It plays, but only black? You get a kernel panic?
Where do you play it? QT Player?
If you check the movie info in QT Pleayer, what does it say (regarding playing time for instance)?

  • Imovie can't export my movie because it "lost it"

so thanks very much iMovie for telling me the export of a 1 hour movie at the original size was going to take 6 hours. I left you on overnight so you could do this. I checked at about 4 hours and you were happily processing away. And this morning where's my effing movie? Oh, you lost it. I'll just check the system log. "Job appears to have crashed: Abort trap". What kind of error message gives details like that?

    2 hours = 120 minutes
iDVD limits in time not in amount of Gbs - and this limit includes MENU. By using a very very simple one with NO animation or audio then this need of time can be reduced to about 1 minute - leaving 119 minutes to movies.
I use "Brushed Metal" from old themes and NO animation or audio to do this on SL-DVDs
If You use DL-DVDs You can put in about x2 on a single DVD
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.2) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
But if You need more then You can use Roxio Toast™ and here squees in about 10 hours onto a SL-DVD
BUT THE QUALITY WILL BE POOOOOR - VHS tapes recorded in LP or EP-mode will look stunning when compared - so to me this is no real option - I use Toast™ to do other things.

  • IMovie won't share my movie.

    Hello,
I'm now finished with editing my movie. When i try to share the movie as a file or to youtube it gives me this message:
"This object can not be shared as long as
it still has references to the media on camera."
What does it mean, how can i fix this? Yes i did import the files from my camcorder to iMovie. (I'm using a Canon XA10)
    Thanks

I don't see anything obvious that is wrong.
    I would try the following.
    Use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME
    Choose MOVIE TO QUICKTIME MOVIE
    Click Options.
For Video Compression, choose Apple Intermediate Codec.
For size, choose current size or 720x480.
Then save it where you can find it.
If that works, you can take the file in Apple Intermediate Codec and convert it to h264 in an app like MPEG Streamclip or QuickTime Player.

  • IMovie won't export to iDVD...why?

I have a project in iMovie 9.0.9 and I want to send it to iDVD to burn a disk.  It worked fine on another project last week and now it doesn't.  iDVD opens, but nothing is there.  I can't find the converted project.  Where does it get saved?  Do I have to manually drop it into iDVD?
I do not want to move this project over to the new iMovie version because I believe it isn't as good as the old version.

    Hi
Most probably a corrupted pref file.
    BUT
Share to iDVD - is no good way to go - the DVD will not be as good as it can be from iMovie'11 (9.0.9)
Do: Share to Media Browser - and as MEDIUM - HD will not improve either as iDVD does a bad job in Scaling Down.
Then in iDVD - You find Your movie under the Media button (down to the right) and here Movies.
Use a name that is easy to remember - You can change it when in iDVD.

  • Logic 9 - audio won't export to .mov

    I'm trying to export to a .mp4.
When I try the export "audio to movie", at the end of the process I get a messag that says "invalid time" and the file is not saved.
I tried using the old "copy audio and add to movie" within QT7 Pro and that wouldn't work either.  I couldn't even resave only the video without adding anything to it.
Is this a problem with the movie itself?  What can I use that will allow me to convert the movie to a usable format?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    LHall,
Do you mean to add your audio to your .mov file?  I usually use "Total Video Converter" on App store, which has a tool "Multiplex video and audio into one file",  which can multiplex video and audio into one file. Maybe can help you
    Good luck.
