IMovie won't export to Vimeo

Trying to upload a 720p movie -  data appears to be moving - Activity Monitor shows 5 GB of data uploaded, iMovie never finishes. Exported movie to desktop, then uploaded with Safari. 11 other movies exported to Vimeo with iMovie prior to this attempt.

Occasionally this happens with Facebook, YouTube or Vimeo. With YouTube the problem has more often been related to the Login credentials but occasionally will fail to upload like what you saw. Unfortunately the only work around is EXACTLY what you did, export to desktop and upload through a web browser. From reading other messages on the iMovie Discussion Group, I have not seen one original poster write back to the group with a fix or steps they took to re-enable the uploads through iMovie. It seems like it's more often the case it works, and works, then it doesn't work. And fails to work after that.

  • IMovie won't export a 3 picture movie (no video)

Having problems with my mac recently (actually my wife's mac).  For years she has been doing movies with iMovie and iDVD and loves it overall.  However, on her recently new (month old), she has a Macbook Pro, 16 gig ram, 2 gig video ram 750gig flash SSD drive storage, OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 latest patches, etc.  She for some reason can NOT do an export of a movie.  It is complaining about not enough memory.
So, from other posts, I did the sodu purge as admin user and cleared the memory file cache that was 6 gig... brought it back down to about 500k -- more reasonable.  I then started iMovie to publish and it still failed.  As soon as iMovie started, the file cache kicked back up to 3 gig which does not make sense.  So I exited iMovie, re-purged and restarted iMovie.
I then created a new project.  Put 3 single pictures in it -- no video at all.  Then did publish and it nagged again about not enough memory.  I even had the export down to mobile device output for smallest possible (vs HD1080 format).
It is like it has something permanently stuck in its craw and won't let go.
Now, another few things... I have done a full logout AND full shutdown SEVERAL TIMES and it still won't allow a published export.
    Please help !!

iMovie is part of iLife. It should be on the #2 gray instalation disk that came with your MacBook

  • IMovie won't export "missing media" and now won't import archived footage either?

    Hello,
I made a movie in iMovie 10.0.3, and tried to export it to "file". It came up fine in the Theatre, but when I exported it to "file" a message about "missing media" came up, and when I tried to play it (tried to burn it to DVD), a further message about "quicktime not recognising the format" came up. It was saved as an mp4 file. I thought I would try and delete all the original footage and reimport it from the external HDD (where it was saved as archived footage), however when I plug the HDD in, the previously imported clips don't come up. I've emptied the trash to try and help (clutching at straws!), and was wondering if anyone could offer advice on how to a. export the movie successfully or b. reimport the clips so I can make the movie again (long and tedious, but possibly the only way?).
    Thanks in advance.
ps this is my first time posting, so please be gentle with a newbie!

Found the solution myself! All I needed to do was turn off the Time Machine. I have no idea why it does that. Finally, I can use iMovie again! Apple should really fix that though.

  • Imovie won't export 1080p...

Hi Folks, I understand this topic has been discussed before but all previous solutions have not worked for me so, want to see if anyone in 2015 has any new insights. This is a long one, My apologies upfront.
I have footage shot from 3 different cameras: a Canon 5mkII, GoPro Hero 4 Black, and a Sony VG-30. All set to 1080p 24fps....cool?....cool.
The Sony VG30 records in AVCHD which is a friggin nightmare file format. I had a lot of trouble getting a solid conversion to .mov that said I did successfully convert them to usable .mov. I have double checked the files in quicktime to verify that they are all 1080p files. HOWEVER The formats appear to be different. Would this create an issue for a final export?? Here are the specs for each camera:
    - Gopro: GoPro AVC ENcoder, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    - Canon 5dkII: H.264, 1920x1080 Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian sign... (that's all quicktime shows)
Ok so the Sony VG30, Like i said I had a **** of a time getting a solid conversion, it seemed the longer clips needed a different conversation than the shorter ones, I had to do 3 different conversions to get all the footage into something usable here are the 3 formats:
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to .mp4 with Adobe Lightroom: AVC Coding, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz Stereo (L R)
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to aac.mov with "Free AVCHD to MOV" (from app store): H.264, 1920x1080 AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
Sony VG30 AVCHD/MTS Converted  to prores.mov with "Free AVCHD to MOV" (from app store): Apple ProRes 422, 1920x1080 Linear PCM, 32 bit little-endian floati...(that's all quicktime shows)
Ok so we are on the same page. We have verified that all the files are 1080p.
in iMovie I have a created a black 1920x1080 background as the first clip to start the video. As I understand it, iMovie uses the first clip to determine the movies resolution. additionally the 2nd clip comes from the Canon, which I've never had issues with. So we can rule that out too.
The last thing I did was duplicate the movie and remove all clips from the Sony and GoPro camera. This is where it gets strange. I removed clips one at time, and in between each clip removal I checked the export setting to see if 1080p became available. After removing ALL the sony and Gopro clips, 1080p WAS Available!!!!!
    BUT!!!!!
As this point the only clips in the movie were from the Canon, This is my primary camera and never have an issue like this. Thinking the problem was solved I started adding clips from just the Canon, after adding a few clips i check the export settings again and 1080p is GRAYED OUT!!!! ***!!! only 720p is available.
So this is where I'm at. I have no clue why this thing is stuck at 720p. It defies logic and I'm really stressing out. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated. I'm at a point where I starting from scratch is practically not an option. I'm assuming the formats has something to do with it, If someone could tell me which is the incompatible format, swapping out the clips isn't that bad, but right now, I'd spend hours in trial and error to figure out which clips are the wrong format. It would be a huge help. Thank you in advance!
    --RC

Just an update, on the duplicate movie i made, I deleted all clips EXCEPT the 1920x1080 background image in the first clip position, and the export option is still stuck at 720p!
    unbelievable....
It's clear that the movies inaccessible metadata or preferences are locked up at 720p. Why on earth did they take away "export using quicktime"??? ARGH! so frustrating.

  • IMovie won't export my movie

Every time I try to export my movie from iMovie, I keep getting a message that states, "Unable to prepare project for publication. The project could not be prepared for publication because an error occurred. (File already open with write permission). HELP

  • IMovie won't export to iDVD...why?

I have a project in iMovie 9.0.9 and I want to send it to iDVD to burn a disk.  It worked fine on another project last week and now it doesn't.  iDVD opens, but nothing is there.  I can't find the converted project.  Where does it get saved?  Do I have to manually drop it into iDVD?
I do not want to move this project over to the new iMovie version because I believe it isn't as good as the old version.

    Hi
Most probably a corrupted pref file.
    BUT
Share to iDVD - is no good way to go - the DVD will not be as good as it can be from iMovie'11 (9.0.9)
Do: Share to Media Browser - and as MEDIUM - HD will not improve either as iDVD does a bad job in Scaling Down.
Then in iDVD - You find Your movie under the Media button (down to the right) and here Movies.
Use a name that is easy to remember - You can change it when in iDVD.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Mavericks' iMovie won't export project to Final Cut Pro

Upon updating to Mavericks and its accompanying versions of iLife, I do not see where the option in iMovie to open a project in Final Cut Pro X is.
Likewise, attempting to import an iMovie project from Final Cut only creates a blank project with the iMovie project name and then crashes Final Cut Pro.
Is there any way to regain this feature?

If you are on iMovie 10.0.2, use FILE/SEND MOVIE TO FINAL CUT PRO. If you are not on 10.0.2, let us know what you are on.
This sends the iMovie to FCPX 10.1. If you are not on FCPX 10.1, it will not work.
I recently tried this with one of my iMovie 10 projects and it all worked perfectly. Nothing changed in Final Cut Pro X (unlike when using the previous method with iMovie '11). All clips, titles, transitions, audio tracks, edit points and so forth were intact. I was then able to add further embellishments in FCP X. It's a delight using FCP X, given its flexibility and greatly expanded feature set compared to iMovie 10.

  • IMovie Won't Let Me Export?

    Hello!
My iMovie won't let me export in HD (1080p or 720p), which has proved to be very frustrating.
    It first starts exporting:
but then after a few minutes, a message comes up:
What do I do? I've spent ages on this video, and it's really irritating, for me to start it all over again! I've updated all of my software, checked the App store for updates for iMovie, but there's nothing! What do I do???? GAH!!
Please help! Thanks in advance! Thank you!

I have the same problem and then some. I movie won't share this particular project, but it also won't save any changes made to it or any other project. At least that's what it started doing, now when I go to even try to make any changes it wigs out and things get scrambled in the Project window and it plays video from another project.
When I create a new project, the Share menu is available, but it won't save changes to that project either. And by that I mean I can put stuff in the project and do whatever, but as soon as I quit and relaunch the application, the project is empty. I did figure out that if I make changes in a new project and immediately share it to the media browser that it will save the changes, but then it messes up my other project even more somehow!
Tried archive and install, deleting plists, reinstalling iMovie and iLife support stuff (twice), repairing permissions, and changing permissions in the project package. Any other ideas?

  • Imovie 11 Won't Export

So i have made a project on Imovie 11 and it won't export. I have no idea what the problem is but every time I try to export to quicktime its gives me and error and when I try to export to YouTube or as a movie file it won't export comming up with the "heap zone" error. I know that some of you will say "try to lower the resolution" or "split the movie in two" but it is only 5 minutes long, it contains no video only pictures voice overs and music from itunes, and it has some special effects with the picture color (hard light) and the globe effect where it shows the travel from one point to another on a globe.

The project has 39 video clips.  I removed all the music, transitions & text.  It's only those clips on the timeline.  Some of them have effects added, but I can't see how that would stop it from creating the XML file.   I know that the original effects & transitions won't reflect in the XML file once it's opened in another program... all I want is the video files to show up on the timeline!!  I noticed today that when I view the Project Library, this particular project has 'HD1080' beside it & the others have 'HD780'.  But again, that shouldn't make a difference??!!

  • Imovie won't open any projects after upgrading to yosemite

Can anyone help? I upgraded to yosemite and imovie 10.0.6 and now imovie won't open. IPhoto and Garageband open just fine. After clicking Imovie, it appears in the menu bar but all options from the drop down menus are grayed out. I cannot open any projects and there is no imovie window opening. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the program twice with the same result. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Apple introduced a new document architecture with Pages v5, that is not backwards compatible with Pages '09. With Pages v5.5.2 (Yosemite) installed, a simple double-click on a Pages '09 document will default open it in Pages v5. Once you save, or Pages autosaves this document, it is no longer directly compatible with Pages '09, without first exporting it to Pages '09 format. Pages v5 documents do not contain index.xml files, and Pages '09 documents do.

  • IMovie won't recognize certain 'File extensions' ??

    Hi,
can anyone help here. I use Handbrake to compress Movie files before I use Quicktime to 'export to web' option, then import to iMovie to then edit before submitting ti iTunes ( keeps the size down but still have good quality ). Anyway even though the files from Handbrake have either a .mov or .m4v extension iMovie won't recognize them, but if I then use QT export to web ( which in turn makes a folder with the new files inside ) which have the .m4v, iMovie will see it !!
    Any ideas please.
The compressed file under Handbrake is small but good quality ( 2.3Gb down to 178Mb ) but if I use QT it then becomes even bigger ( 539Mb ) !!!!!
    Steve

I'm new to Handbrake so could you tell me what do you mean by 'Don't include extraneous data tracks' ?
Most people use HandBrake to convert DVD content (usually multiplexed M2V video and AC3 audio) to iPhone, iPod, TV, iTunes/Front Row files for viewing and/or iMovie '08 compatible files for editing. Since DVD content usually contains chapter data and the default setting for Apple device presets like TV normally default to include the chapter track data and (in older versions) may default to include an extra AC3 "passthrough" audio track, the output from such conversions are not supported by iMovie '08. If this is true, then re-exporting the content as you described would remove the extraneous data and explain why the files are incompatible with iMovie '08 before export and compatible after.
However, you have not confirmed that the incoming files are, in fact, stored on DVDs or indicated which specific settings are being used for your HandBrake conversions. iMovie '08 is only "edit" compatible with files containing DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and certain profiles of MPEG-4 or H,264 video compressed data. So there is always a secondary possibility here that you are selecting an incompatible form of output form HandBrake and then using the "Export for Web" option to accidentally convert the incompatible compression format to a compatible one since this option exports to H.264/AAC by default.
If you have a much better way of doing this I am all ears especially if it makes my life easier, I am on a steep learning curve here ( sending video podcasts to iTunes but in good quality ).
The normal approach would be to select the iPod preset within HandBrake (or within QT Pro, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, etc. if the source file is QT compatible) and convert directly to an iMovie '08 compatible file. The iPod preset would create a file equivalent to the "Desktop" (1500 Kbps) file created by the "Export for Web..." option but, as previously mentioned may contain a "chapter" track if you fail to turn it off. If you want a smaller output file, then all you have to do is reduce the target data rate in HandBrake. If you are currently editing the equivalent of the iPhone file (900 Kbps) using your current work flow, then reduce the target average bit rate to 900 or 1000 Kbps before exporting from HandBrake. Basically, this approach is faster since you do not have to export the data twice. On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated since you have to manually ensure any extraneous data tracks are de-selected and that the correct compressing preset/settings are selected.

  • Cropped song settings won't export to slideshow

For some reason, my start/stop time settings for individual songs in itunes won't export to an iphoto slideshow. Is there another way to do this?

    David,
Your right. Changes made to the stop and start time of songs in iTunes don't seem to have any effect in iPhoto.
I suppose one work around would be to first burn the music for your slide show to a music CD and then reimport the tracks.
You could also use iMovie, GarageBand or a third party app like Sound Studio to actually edit the tracks (probably best to edit copies of the tracks) and then reimport the edited tracks back into iTunes.
Kind of a hassle. I'll continue to think a bout a more elegant solution.
    Matt
