IMovie won't recognize my Canon Elura 85, can't import video.

Hi there, I'm trying import video from my Canon Elura 85 into iMovie. It only has a USB port and a "DV" port (I have no idea what this DV port is, I'm using the provided USB cable). iMovie says there's no camera attached. I tried using image capture, it couldn't find it either. Everyone else who has an Elura 85, doesn't seem to have problems importing, just seperating takes. I can't even import. Can anyone help me? Many thanks. -A

Yeah, figured out that that DV out was the firewire cable out. Feeling real slick right about now.

  • Imovie HD with Leopard won't recognize my Canon ZR40

I have been making movies with imovie HD with Tiger for a long time. I have just now installed Leopard and 10.5.1. Tried to start a new imovie project and imovie won't recognize my canon zr40 which has been working with imovie fine until Leopard was installed. It says no camera attached when I hook it up and try to import. Any ideas? I know it's a Leopard problem since that;s the only thing that has changed in the last couple of years. Hope Apple fixes this because I'm dead in the water here.

Figured it out. From this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61603
I had an external HD attached by firewire on back of Mac and camera attached on front of mac and I guess this bus conflicts. Unplugged HD and camera recognition worked. I had this before a long time ago with an isight camera but not since then. Weird.

  • IMovie won't recognize certain 'File extensions' ??

    Hi,
can anyone help here. I use Handbrake to compress Movie files before I use Quicktime to 'export to web' option, then import to iMovie to then edit before submitting ti iTunes ( keeps the size down but still have good quality ). Anyway even though the files from Handbrake have either a .mov or .m4v extension iMovie won't recognize them, but if I then use QT export to web ( which in turn makes a folder with the new files inside ) which have the .m4v, iMovie will see it !!
    Any ideas please.
The compressed file under Handbrake is small but good quality ( 2.3Gb down to 178Mb ) but if I use QT it then becomes even bigger ( 539Mb ) !!!!!
    Steve

I'm new to Handbrake so could you tell me what do you mean by 'Don't include extraneous data tracks' ?
Most people use HandBrake to convert DVD content (usually multiplexed M2V video and AC3 audio) to iPhone, iPod, TV, iTunes/Front Row files for viewing and/or iMovie '08 compatible files for editing. Since DVD content usually contains chapter data and the default setting for Apple device presets like TV normally default to include the chapter track data and (in older versions) may default to include an extra AC3 "passthrough" audio track, the output from such conversions are not supported by iMovie '08. If this is true, then re-exporting the content as you described would remove the extraneous data and explain why the files are incompatible with iMovie '08 before export and compatible after.
However, you have not confirmed that the incoming files are, in fact, stored on DVDs or indicated which specific settings are being used for your HandBrake conversions. iMovie '08 is only "edit" compatible with files containing DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and certain profiles of MPEG-4 or H,264 video compressed data. So there is always a secondary possibility here that you are selecting an incompatible form of output form HandBrake and then using the "Export for Web" option to accidentally convert the incompatible compression format to a compatible one since this option exports to H.264/AAC by default.
If you have a much better way of doing this I am all ears especially if it makes my life easier, I am on a steep learning curve here ( sending video podcasts to iTunes but in good quality ).
The normal approach would be to select the iPod preset within HandBrake (or within QT Pro, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, etc. if the source file is QT compatible) and convert directly to an iMovie '08 compatible file. The iPod preset would create a file equivalent to the "Desktop" (1500 Kbps) file created by the "Export for Web..." option but, as previously mentioned may contain a "chapter" track if you fail to turn it off. If you want a smaller output file, then all you have to do is reduce the target data rate in HandBrake. If you are currently editing the equivalent of the iPhone file (900 Kbps) using your current work flow, then reduce the target average bit rate to 900 or 1000 Kbps before exporting from HandBrake. Basically, this approach is faster since you do not have to export the data twice. On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated since you have to manually ensure any extraneous data tracks are de-selected and that the correct compressing preset/settings are selected.

I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.
Is there a fix for this? It worked with CS6 and CC just fine.

Did you turn off the "show transform controls" option in the move tool?
It sounds like you were using that previously.
And you can always transform by using the Free Transform command (command/control T).

I upgraded from the app store. It is actually quite awhile ago so I do not remember how. I think I used a thumbdrive to create some type of file. No I do not have any backups. My iLife CD is nowhere to be found because this is a very old macbook pro that I've had for a couple years.
Thanks for taking the time to help

  • My iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?

my iphone 5 is stuck on a screen displaying the itunes symbol and a charging cable. I tried connecting it to itunes and it won't recognize it or anything. what can i do?

Turn it off by holding home+ power button untill the screen goes black ( as soon as it goes black, release the buttons).. This might take some practice , so dont worry if on the first try your phone reboots and goes to itunes screen again.
Now, with your phone powered off, enter DFU mode:
    Method 1)
Attach the phone to the pc
    Turn the phone off
Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.
Whilist in dfu mode, itunes will recognize the device and it will ask you if you wish to restore it. Simply click restore, and the restoring proces will begin.
This will hopefully fix your iphone.
    Cheers

  • Hi, since i put some mp4 video or DVD files on my external hard drives final cut prox won't recognize my hard drives, i move all the video files and the problem still exist. somebody have the solution

Hi, since i put some mp4 video or DVD files on my external hard drives final cut prox won't recognize my hard drives, i move all the video files and the problem still exist. somebody have the solution

Did the back and forth between PC and Mac file systems screw up my files somehow?
Yes. Unfortunately the move has almost certainly caused the loss of the resource data that would have been (invisibly) attached to those files.
By adding a specific .mov extension after the fact you will have helped the Mac correctly identify the file type / asscoiations but also significantly you will have physically changed the filename eg from "clip" to "clip.mov". This means that when you come to reconnect the media in FCP , then FCP will be looking for files that no longer exist at the given path eg when specifically looking for our example clip called "clip" of course it won't find it.
Try this as a test... first remove the ".mov" extension from one or more of the clips, select those clips and press Cmd-Opt-I to open an Info window for the selection. You'll see an "Open with:" popup and in that popup you should choose QuickTime Player (if its a Unix Executable then it will initially list Terminal as the appropriate app, you have to choose Other... then in the open dialog choose Enable > All Applications and then navigate to and select the Quicktime Player app as the appropriate app). After you've done that restart FCP and see if you can now reconnect to those clips.

  • Can't Import video from my Canon Z25

Hello experts, thanks if you read this! I'm new to iMovie HD, and I just bought a 4 to 6 firewire to try and import some of my video from my Canon Z25. But of course iMovie won't recognize it (no camera attached).
Is there anything to be done, or is my camera simply incompatible?
    Thank you!!!!
    --Brian S.

Hi -- thanks for all the responses so far, everyone!
First of all, my camera is a Canon ZR25MC. I didn't get the model number right the first time.
Second, I still can't get iMovieHD to recognize it. I've done everything -- sut everything down and start up again, reset the clock on my camera, check to see if it's listed in Apple System profiler. Nothing changes. I dunno -- maybe my firewire connector is bad -- but it's brand new, from Apple.
Any suggestions? Maybe I'll call Canon.
    Thank you!
