IMovie Won't Work; Reinstall?

I'm a big baseball fan, so naturally I got excited when I found out that I can watch the top highlights from each game on MLB.com. I got even more excited when I discovered that Flip4Mac (Trial version) allows me to view them (which are in WMV format) in Quicktime, and with Quicktime Pro I can save them on my computer. And I decided it'd be fun to string them all together to make a nice little highlight reel in iMovie.
In my naiveness, I thought I was all set. I tried to import one of the clips, iMovie didn't like it, and now it refuses to open.
The information that I've gleaned from various other threads tells me that despite the files were Quicktime compatible, they were still technically WMV files just in a .mov mask; and apparently iMovie doesn't get along with those.
So, I've deleted the iMovie preferences thing in the Library folder, reparied permissions in Disk Utility, and created a different account, just as others have recommended, but iMovie still won't open.
So, unless anybody has any other ideas, I suppose I need to reinstall iMovie from the disc. But seeing my ignorance has managed to screw one thing up pretty good, I'd rather not crap up the rest of my computer trying to reinstall the program on my own. So, can anyone give me a step-by-step description on how to reinstall iMovie from the original disc?
FYI, I've got Flip4Mac Pro now, so I should be able to export the clips to a compatible format and avoid this problem again in the future, but first I need to revive iMovie.
Thanks.
PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5 GHz, 512 MB

In addition, my computer came with 10.3.3 on it, I since bought the upgrade to 10.4; now which disc do I reinstall off of?

  • Captured to external drive, now iMovie won't work

I have a Mac formatted external drive and a friend (who is soon to become an ex-friend) talked me into capturing my movies on an external drive then editing from there (had been doing great up until then capturing to my internal drive). So I captured a 45 minute movie onto the external drive through the computer via iMovie. Used a Firewire 800 cable from the computer to the external HD and a 400 Firewire cable from the camera to the computer. It all went fine. Opened iMovie but instead of my normal event list, there were two folders marked "Event 1" and "Event 2". When I tried to clicked on the the first one, iMovie tried to "initialize" it but kept shutting down. I looked in the folder and the files were broken up into tiny 1 or 2 second movies which said "Q-DV". So I trashed those two folders then captured directly to the internal HD, but it did the same thing again! Made two folders which iMovie can't open. I looked in iMovie Preferences but don't see how to correct the problem. Have I ruined something?! I'm stuck. Can't do anything. Heeeeelllllp! (please)

Shame on me. I have to stop running to the forums every time some little thing goes wrong. Here's what happened: I tried to capture a project I had already rough cut on the PowerBook a few years back. The original was Super-8 footage which I'd had transferred professionally to a mini DV cassette. I had captured that on my PowerBook, done a rough cut, then transferred that to another brand new DV cassette. That's the one I tried transferring to the MacBook Pro. I'd done that before but with video originating from my DCR-PC100, so the source was DV. This morning I rooted around through my cassettes and found the original transfer cassette and tried capturing it directly to the internal drive of the MacBook Pro. It worked perfectly. So I guess the problem was the second generation capture of the Super-8 footage via the PowerBook (using iMovie2). However, I'm still dubious about capturing video through the MacBook (using the configuration I mentioned) to an external drive. Everything I've read so far about storing video on the external drive talks about moving it from the internal drive. I've yet to see anything about capturing to the external drive so I'm reluctant to ever try that again. Anyway, problem solved.

  • Serial number won't work reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Pro X

I purchased CS6 Design and Web Premium which includes Adobe Acrobat Pro X. I've had continuing problems using Acrobat, so I decided to reinstall it. I was able to download it, but when I enter my serial number it tells me it's invalid. I'm copying it from my Adobe account, so the number is accurate. I've entered it with the dashes and without the dashes - neither one works. I need help getting this installed and working.

I downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html. I did not see anywhere to download it from my My Products page.

  • Imovie won't work properly

I am trying to use my MacBook's built in camera to record something on iMovie (I've done this before!)
When I click on the camera icon (on the bar along the middle of the iMovie page), the message which comes up makes no mention of 'record' or 'use isight camera', etc.. It only says that I have to plug in an external camera. (My built in isight camera works when I want to skype and if I were to use FaceTime. Any advice or suggestions?

  • After updating to Version 9.0.6 , Imovie won't work at all.

How can I make my Imovie work again after upgrading to 9.0.6?

Had the same problem with the new update. I finally got back to my previous version by using system restore. After the restore I had to go to the "All Programs" list and click on Quicktime and iTunes individually to allow them to re-configure, then had to restart the computer again. After that all's well. My lbrary was intact.
I tried everything to get the newest version to work, including completely uninstalling my current versions of QT and iTunes, then downloading the latest directly from the Apple website, but, after 3 attempts, nothing worked. Guess I'll have to wait for the next update and try again.
By the way, your library is not actually stored in iTunes--it is stored in your Music folder, so you should not lose anything by uninstalling iTunes if you need to.

  • Installed iLife 8 and my iMovie won't work. Help!

I recently installed Leopard. It told me that it could not upgrade iMovie as I was on a G4 and not intel. Now I cannot use my iMovie. It opens but cannot export. I have version 3.0.3
    Any ideas?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Imovie 08 only needs an intel mac for importing AVCHD, however it does require a G5 as a minimum specification, what is it that you have v 3.0.3 of

You can simply upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.x) - it will be a LOT cheaper! ($29.00 in the US - I'm very surprised the genius didn't suggest that to you.)

  • IMovie won't install

    MacBook, OS X 10.9.4.
Purchased iMovie from App Store.  It's been set on "Installing" for the last 30 minutes.  I don't see any downloading or anything happening, it's not in my Applications folder or anywhere else that I can find.

Do you have a MacBook or a MacBook Pro? Are you really running 10.5.1? As far as I know the current version of iMovie won't work on a system that old.
I would, were I you, I would cancel the download and get in touch with the Mac App Store support folks -> http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/.

I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there.  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working.  Please help.

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

my itunes won't work so i tried reinstalling and when it starts an error pops up that says:
"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Itunes.msi' in the box below
    please help, its frustrating

first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the revo uninstaller http://http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
next download itunes. it worked for me hope this is helpful!!
oonce you get into the revo uninstallergo thru to delete itunes hit uninstall on the itunes icon then you will go thru to it will tell u the same nmessage about the feature and network hit cancell then go thru and hit scan (make sure bthe advance scan button is pushed) this will take awhile but go thru the list and hit everything associated with itunes. hit delete then install itunes again. it worked for me hope it works for you!

  • ITunes asking for reinstall and still won't work with win 7?

Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on new unwritten hard drive, when I try and open iTunes I get the message that some registry files are not available, the ones that itunes uses for CD burning/playing, please reinstall iTunes. I have done this over and over and it makes no difference. iTunes will open but I cannot play anything and the speakers are working fine. I spent a couple hours with HP chat last night because my CD/DVD writer had error issues, and the gentleman from HP helped me to edit the upper and lower filters so that my CD player would be recognized by windows 7 and work, now iTunes won't work. I'm completely baffled because I have the same Windows 7 OS on another computer and iTunes works fine with that one. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Cindy

Hooray hooray hooray!  So many times we never hear back what happens and it just makes my day to know when something works!
I will investigate why hp doesn't make this solution easier to find.  Thanks again for your response!
    Thanks!

I am having the same problem.  I even changed my password and updated all of my security information.  Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work.  Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00.  So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid.  Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

  • TS3212 when installing iTunes on my new laptop a message box appears saying some sort of error has occured and i have to uninstall it then reinstall it again and it still won't work what should i do?

when installing iTunes on my new laptop a message box appears saying some sort of error has occured and i have to uninstall it then reinstall it again and it still won't work what should i do?

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
