Have you looked at the iMovie tutorials? You might have a problem with your Mac. You might want to head to the Genius Bar at the local Apple store and have them look at it.

Imovie project won't let me edit it

I created a movie using still photos in IMovie 09. I have opened, edited and closed it several times over the past few days. However, today I can not open the movie. It shows in my project library but I can not edit it. I click the "edit project" and nothing happens. I looked at the information on the movie file and the extension is rcproject. Does that have something to do with it?
I tried saving it to a flash drive and then importing it into IMovie. Nothing happens.

Deleting iMovie's Preference file may help, as this file can become corrupted at times. The file can be found in your user Library>Preferences folder and is named com.apple.iMovie8.plist
After deleting the plist file, when iMovie is next opened it will create a new plist file with the default settings. In iMovie, go to the Menu item iMovie>Preferences and change each item as required to suit your own preferences. In addition, check under File>Project Properties and amend the General and Timing settings if appropriate.
If you are not comfortable deleting the plist file, just drag it to the Desktop until you are satisfied that all is working as before once the new file is created, then delete (trash) it.
Another thing to try is to Repair Permissions using Disk Utility. Please post back if you are unsure how to do this.

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.

HT1349 Itunes update wont let me edit song info ?

I go right click and get info on a track and it simply wont let me edit any info, it never did this before I activated the most recent itunes update. Please someone tell me how to fix this ? its driving me crazy

I had the same problem and I noticed that the songs that I could not edit were all ACC format. The Apple Lossless songs could be edited. To check to see if this is the case with your songs, right-click on a song, select "Get Info", and, under the "Summary" tab, the version is listed as "Kind".
To fix:
1. Highlight a song that you can't edit.
2. Under the "Advanced" menu at the top of your iTunes screen, select "Create Apple Lossless Version". This will create a duplicate song in your library.
3. Check to see if you can edit the new version.
I had to change the format of 6,000+ songs. If you have a large library (or even if you don't, I guess), here is the easiest way to change the formats of all the songs:
1. Highlight a group of songs (I have been choosing groups in alphabetical order).
2. Click on the "Create Apple Lossless Version" option in the "Advanced" menu.
3. When all of the duplicates have been created, the original "bad" versions will stay highlighted in blue.
4. Right-click on a blue area and deleted all of the original versions.
This worked for me but it may have something to do with my settings. You may need to experiment to see what versions of songs will allow you to edit them. Good luck!

My iphoto library is corrupted according to the error message.
I have tried to restore my iphoto library by deleting the iphoto library and copy it back from my timemachine, but the problem remains.
It just happened today.
I can scroll my photo, use "edit" function and others fairly well. But when I try to click "info" the iphoto will shut itself down immediately and show error message that says my library is corrupted.
I have tried rebuild the database. But the problem persists.

Won't let me edit "rolling credits" title! AGGGH!

I'm pretty new to iMovie, but I've made a few very simple ones successfully, i.e., title and single clip, no transitions, no external sound files, etc.
I've got a 17 minute movie with about 100 clips and a couple dozen titles here and there which are just Centered Title ("CT") clips. At the end of the movie, I have a Rolling Credits ("RC") clip. All the title clips are "Over black". There is music at the beginning of the movie which fades out and music at the end which starts then also fades out at the end of the RC clip.
When I click on the Rolling Credits clip to edit it, iMovie just shows me the info for the last Title clip that was selected, not the currently selected RC clip. When I click a CT clip, it shows the correct info and lets me edit it . . . but not for the RC clip!
I've tried moving the RC clip from the end to the middle of the movie to attempt editing, but same problem---wrong info, can't edit.
I did a "Save as..." and tried loading that new copy of the movie project. No luck.
I threw out the .plist file for iMovie. No luck.
The RC clip has 46 entries (it's a joke) and I want to edit just one thing in it . . . this is SO FRUSTRATING!
I've spent a couple hours on this already. It sure looks like a bug to me.
Any suggestions?

For a program that is supposed to be easy to use, iMovie sure is a pain in the butt.
So, I gave up, deleted my 'uneditable' Rolling Credits clip and made a new one and retyped everything. Ok, fine, it seemed to be working ok . . . though the sound seemed out of synch if I watched too many clips in a row. I figured this was just an iMovie playback issue since it reset if I hit pause then play again . . . UNTIL I burned a DVD use iDVD (I set up a theme, etc.) and played it in our DVD player—the sound was off by a second or more! Gag. Lovely.
So extracted the audio as a Apple Support page says to. Then save, burn a new DVD. Play DVD, the sound is synched . . . BUT, there's also a SECOND sound track that's quieter but out of synch!! So, I've got one full volume synched audio track and a lower volume offset audio track.
It seems to me that maybe iMovie didn't completely turn off the sound completely in the original clips when I extracted the audio. BUT, it looks like the volume level on the clips are at the bottom and I can't pull them down any lower.
Any suggestions? (Other than never using this program ever again?)
Can I fully delete the sound from the clips and only leave the extracted audio?
Or is there something else I should be trying?

How are you trying to edit?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

I movie won't let me edit any of my projects.

I was working on several projects in iMovie and they were working fine but now iMovie won't let me edit any of my projects and i'm not sure how to fix it. I even started a new project and once i exited out of iMovie and opened it again it wouldn't let me edit the new project i started.

If you are running Lion, to access your User/Library folder, click on the Desktop so that the Finder menu is available. Now option-click on Go in the menu to reveal the Library folder in the drop-down list. If you simply click on Go, the Library folder is hidden.

IMovie 08 exports reversed screen shot instead of movie to all targets

Capture - iShowU - Apple Animation - looks great - edits great - Can't get the **** thing out of iMovie - it exports a screen shot only - a backwards screenshot - like a negative - upside down as well - to iTunes, MediaBrowser, .Mac, YouTube - desktop.
Then I started from scratch - moved contents of iMovie folder to trash - re-imported clips - which were stored on an external drive - Same thing.

Note to Apple - Is this something that I can expect to be fixed or do I give up and start over?
They will if everyone provides appropriate feedback through proper channels. Here is a link to the Apple "Product Feedback" page on which you can locate a link to current Apple products. Use the links provided to report bugs, make technical comments, or request enhancements. If you don't report a problem, they can't fix it. In addition, the are much more likely to fix a problem reported by many users than one reported by only a few. Don't assume someone else will make these reports for you. Please play and active role here.

IMovie wont recognize my format??

quick question, I'm trying to make a dvd of in-car race footage. The video camera saves the video in a .mpg format. iMovie will not let me import any of the files because it says that quicktime cannot "Parse" it..... if i download the "QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X" will that allow me to import the files to iMovie? and allow me to edit the footage?

IMovie '11 Exports are distorted with dark colors.

Hello everyone, I have a bit of a problem with iMovie 11 exports. I usually capture video games with an HD PVR (.mp4 files)
Once I import those videos - without converting them to .mov or any DV formats, I edit, export, and save the video to my desktop. However, once I watch the videos- no matter what format I save it in- the video comes out a little disorted, or blurry, and you can specifically see the problem with the dark colors and any darkened spaces in the videos. Anyone with the same problems/solutions?

The blurry video is likely caused by the de-interlacing of the video. iMovie doesn't handle interlaced video properly where Final Cut Pro does.
The dark color are likely caused because you are comparing a video from your television on your computer screen. Video on the computer screen always looks much darker than your television. They are different color spaces, TV (yCbCr) and Computer RGB.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

Every time I try to share or export the project it says "quit imovie and reopen" this can't be a memory problem because I have a lot of memory left and it allows me to export other projects but just not this one. i think its the assistive touch bc i got that when my home button broke and my lock button is also broken and now it wont let me slid the unlock button, and i shut it down then turned it back on so it automatically showed the keypad and it would only let me press 3 and thats it. i also read a few other topics about it not unlocking and they all used the assistive touch.

IMovie Reduce Exported Video Size

I am super new to iMovie. I am using iMovie 10. I added a video clip of size 90Mb in the iMovie. I did some slight editing like adding some text and an image. I exported it using the Share file option with the lowest SD quality option and the file size is more than 500Mb. I imported this 50Mb file in the iMovie again, did some editing and exported using the HD option 720p and now the exported file size is more than 1.1Gb.
I did some searching and realized that there was an option to export it as a QuickTime movie which gives many compression options. But looks like that option was in iMovie 9 and has been removed from iMovie 10.
Is there any way i can reduce the file size or is there any option to export the file size with minimum file size?? Thanks!

There are less options that there were in iMovie 9 but Share to file produces a Quicktime movie and you can choose the resolution. Obviously there is no sense in choosing a resolution higher than the original clips. Lower qualities produce smaller files. The other share target options are tailored to the target - the smallest movie is obtained by sharing to e-mail but of course the quality is very poor. For details see:
