Imovie08 doesn't import quicktime file made from imovie05

I can't get imovie 08 to open the quicktime file I made from a movie that was created in imovie 05... any suggestions?

Although 08 should generally be able to handle Quicktime files, Quicktime is a "container" file and it's important to know the codec used in creating the file. When you exported the file from iMovie, what was your process? If you open the file in Quicktime, does it play correctly? In QT Player, what does it say for the video format (look in Movie Properties).

  • Can't import quicktime movie made from Keynote into iMovie media browser

I've created a file in Keynote, exported it to quicktime and would like to import into iMovie. iMovie keeps giving me this error message: Unknown error: the file could not be imported. Can someone help?

Rarely am I able to solve my own problems, regardless of how much effort. But I did figure this one out, simply by trial and error. *To recap... I have created a sample slide show to use as a test run through Keynote (to get the best builds and transitions), to Quicktime Pro, into iMovie (to marry the features of iMovie with the Keynote slides) then back to Quicktime Pro as a final product.* It was a crash course with all 3 applications, so a huge learning curve for me.
Quicktime Kirk helped me successfully with my first go round with this. But with so many nested compression windows and so many combinations of choices, I eventually forgot which settings had worked correctly to give me the quality resolution that I had achieved the first time.
So I posted several messages asking for some clue where I was going wrong. Kirk did get back to me, but told me that I needed to create my project entirely without iMovie. Very frustrating because I knew I had done it before with iMovie.
After literally hours of analyzing all the working files and duplicating the exact settings I used before, two scenarios were happening. One, the end product had terrible resolution quality (not even close to the first time around). *Or two, when trying to import the first Quicktime file created from Keynote into iMovie, there was an error message saying that the file could not be imported*.
So, I eventually decided to try the following:
    *1. Create Keynote file*
*2. Export to QT with "Full Quality/Large" setting checked, and "Include Transparency" checked.*
*3. Open QT file to check quality. If acceptable, export this QT file as a QT file again using the highest quality settings - preferably ones that match the first export from Keynote to QT.*
*4. Open iMovie file and import this new QT file.*
*5. Do my thing with it.*
*6. Export (Share) iMovie file as a final QT file with "Full Quality" setting checked in the first pop-up compression window.*
This sequence proved to be successful with the same high quality resolution as the very first go round with it. I KNOW, though, that this wasn't the sequence I used the first time because I didn't do step 3.
I am just happy that I got what I needed. Now I can create my full presentation without worrying about the outcome in the end.
*Because I'm on a Mac, and the AIC default is used, my next feat is going to be identifying codec settings that are going to work both on Mac and PC (newer machines AND older machines).*
*So, does anyone have a clue how to do this?*

  • How to import .MOV files coming from everio camcorder ?

How can I import  .MOV files coming from everio camcorder to imovie ? All I've tried failed, iMovie doesn't want my files, or even recognize.
    All answer welcome.

JVC released the Quicktime Components update:
    <http://www2.cli.co.jp/products/ne/update_qtc_for_gzhd7/qtc3e_update.htm>
which should take care of TOD files playing in Quicktime, but:
The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.

  • How do I import mpg files made by an old Sony camcorder into iMovie 11?

How do I import mpg files made by an old Sony camcorder into iMovie 11?

I had the same problem. Here is a very easy solution that worked for me.
1- Open the .mpg video with QuickTime Player
2-Go to file/export/ and pick the "Ipad,Iphone,Ipod Touch & AppleTV" option
3-Save your movie with the option "ipod touch &iphone 3GS" picked
4-Confirm by choosing folder of choice to save it in
Now this new version of the movie should be able to be read in imovies.
    Hope that helps!
    Good luck.

  • Imported quicktime files lose resolution when exported from FCE

I am having trouble with quicktime files losing resolution after I add titles and transitions to them in FCE.
I'm doing some video morphing so I use different software to create the quicktime files, and then I import them into FCE in order to add titles and transitions, and then I want to export again as quicktime files.
The problem is, when I export the completed movies from FCE, the quicktime file section of the movies ends up being a much lower resolution than when I had imported it. I am using all the same compression settings throughout: Sorenson 3, Best, Frame rate 15 fps. The movies are 1001x751 in size.
Any ideas on how to get the movies to come out as crisp and hi res as the original clips?
    Thanks.
    FCE 2.0.3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
    FCE 2.0.3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Quicktime 7.0.4

Sorenson 3 is a web compression codec. You need to create your videos in DV NTSC at 720x480 at the 29.97fps. That the format that's specified in FCE.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12 doesn't import MOV Files

    Hi, All!
I'm working on Windows 8.1 64 bit and use Adobe Premiere Elements 12. I've downloaded and installed on my PC latest version of Apple QuickTime 7.7.4.1680.86 from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
I've trying to use some free stuff from http://www.detonationfilms.com/Stock_Directory.html and mix it with my video. You may download example of Pre-Keyed Explosions using direct link: http://www.detfilmsshockwave.com/DVExplosion01.zip or any other stuff from this site...
...but my Adobe Premiere Elements 12 with installed the latest updates doesn't import these MOV Files with codec PNG Image
In fact, Apple does not offer ProRes components for QuickTime on Windows, but I don't know do this problem interact with my trouble?
IMHO, it's best  to look at the crash logs for QT32Server! I've found executable QT32Server on my PC in next folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\CAHeadless\32\Adobe QT32 Server.exe, but can't found any import logs on my Windows 8.1 including hidden folders. I have trying to check the windows events log for errors %windir%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s but it contains no necessary items.
I have trying to re-install version 6.5.2 of Apple QuickTime, but without success. May be I must try to install any other older version, i.e. 7.5.5 ?
I think perhaps such behavior of Adobe Premiere Elements 12 is in design?
May be I'd try third party free video converter, like SUPER e.t.c. to convert MOV container to AVI?
Please help me to find a way to fix this problem.
    Sincerely yours,
    JennyK

What is this "codec PNG image" that is contained/wrapped by the .mov format? What are the video and audio properties of this video...frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio, et al.
It sounds like you have Premiere Elements 12 is running on some version of Windows with QuickTime (latest version) installed on the same computer as Premiere Elements. Great. Requirement for QuickTime met.
Where is this PNG.mov coming from? And what type of .avi were you thinking to convert to?
Premiere Elements 12 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime does offer an export with a PNG video codec with the .mov file extension. I am in the process of exporting my Timeline to that type of file and then determining if I can import that back into Premiere Elements 12 project.
When your png.mov will not install into Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit, what is the specific message that you are getting from the program at that time.
More shortly after my export of the png.mov is finished. Any minute now.
    ATR
Add On....The png.mov produced by Premiere Elements 12 Window 7 64 bit could be imported into a Premiere Elements 12 project. I am now going to my laptop which has Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit to do the same thing and see what happens there. Back soon.

  • Illustrator shows BG error when importing ai files made in Flash

    Hello Everyone!
I've been using Flash for a couple of years now... I use it
mostly for designing fashion graphics (!!!). I know that
Illustrator is excellect for creating artwork, but I am a big Flash
fan and can't help it :) Of course, I have to use Illustrator from
time to time which makes it a bit tricky when importing modified
    Flash files.
I export Flash files as AI ones, but encounter numerous
errors while opening such files in Illustrator. I think the problem
is with the Color settings. Flash uses RGB, and CMYK is
Illustrator's default settings. When I try to export a graphic
symbol (with layers, groups of objects and simple shapes) from
Flash Professional as an AI file, it always exports as Illustrator
6.0 version (wonder why)... Then I try to open this file in
Illustrator CS2 and always get a "BG" error message which is
    similar to this one:
Can't open illustration. The illustration doesn't have the
correct number of operands for an operator.
    Offending operator: "Bg"
    Contex:
    Bb
    0000 Bh
    1.0.0.000819.20.....etc. (lots of figures)...Bg
So after getting such a message and pressing "OK" there are 2
    possible results:
    1. The program (Illustrator CS2) opens a blank artboard
(stage) with absolutely NO objects or symbols on it.
    2. The program opens an incomplete graphic on the artboard
(stage) with many missing objects and shapes (say, if I exported a
graphic with 2 layers, the top layer will be missing).
Unfortunately, these are the most common results....Though a
few days ago I hkept several AI files open and tried to export an
AI file made in Flash. To my greatest surprise Illustrator could
open the file with absolutely everything I exported from Flash!!!
Except for Bitmap fills, of course....But everything else was just
perfect! I was amazed no end!
Like an idiot I didn't save the file, and the next day I
spent 2 hours trying to get the same result...which I didn't. Never
did since then...Though I used the same graphic over and over...
So my question is...What settings should I have in order to
be able to open AI files exported from Flash? If I got it once, it
means it is possible to open such files...
I would greatly appreciate if anybody could help me find a
way out of this situation. I have to use Illustrator more often
now, and I need my artwork to be convered to AI files without
significant modifications or corrections... Is it doable?
Thank you so much in advance!!
    Ella

Did you ever find a solution to this?
I need to export characters from Flash files to use in Illustrator, but I keep getting "offending operator bg" messages.

  • Trouble importing .mov files coming from FCP/Mac

    Hello,
My friend works on Final Cut Pro on Mac. He gave me rushs from vidéos he imported (and the exported) on FCP.
An example of these files is here :
    https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B9S9yK830UrNM2QyZTBhYWEtYjM2NC00NWNiLThiZTktOWQwZGNjNzY1O GMz&hl=fr
There are several file sizes 1280 / 720 and others.
Codecs are : Codec : MPEG-1/2 Video (xdva)
Codec : PCM S16 LE (sowt)
I can read the files with VLC on my computer.
When I import the files on Premier Pro CS5... it crashes the program.
I went through the forums... tried to download more codecs via Klite Codec Pack. I also installed Calibrated(Q) XP Options... but i'm not sure i used it right.
In the end, I am unable to do anything... and I am extremely frustrated, and MAD at Apple and it's never-compatible formats.
    Anyone can help ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I downloaded your file and I can also confirm that it freezes both PremierePro CS5 and CS5.5. It just freezes when trying to create peak file.
I also have Calibrated(Q) XP Options.
Quicktime Pro tells that it is XDCAM-EX 720p50 1280x720
With Quicktime Pro you can export it to other format, I tried Avid DNxHD 720p/50 and Premiere opened it nicely.
    But 300 files...

  • LR4 doesn't import video files .avi and cannot playback

    Hello,
I have a big issue with my brand new Lightroom 4.
I've been working on my updated catalog (from LR3) very well, since I tried to import fotos and videos from my second camera (olympus E-PL1).
This "old" catalog contains RAW files (NEF and ORF), Jpeg and Video files (.avi).
In LR3 I had no problems in importing video file and in playing the back with the external player.
Now in LR4 is a real disaster!
I cannot even import .avi files properly.
LR is importing fotos but is giving a failure message on most of the video (avi) file.
Sometimes it imports just few videos and sometimes none of them.
I've tried to import them in differnt way: from camera directly, from a card reader, from an external drive and even from the c: hard drive. i've tried to move, and to add them in catalog. NO WAY!
I've also tried to clean the video cache: no changes. To disable GL accelerator: no results. I have no further idea.
I can play these video files in all applications, from WMP to Quicktime. I have also Vlan installed.
Furthermore, while trying to import or playback videos. LR4 is slowing up in a very strange way. And sometime is crashing the last imported session (files not foud)
I've tried to reinstall it, but I didn't see any different result.
I've searched everywhere in the web for a possible solution, but I didn't find anything.
Avi file I'm talking about are coming from a olympus camera E-PL1, they are in 720p.
Please help me, beacuse I am very disappointed wih thios new video feature.
    Thank you in advance!
    Marco

Yes, I did and I got a strange outcome.
I checked Quicktime, and I reinstalled it.
    I restarted the PC.
    When LR4 opens, the processes
    dynamiclinkmanager.exe
    dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe
    Adobe QT32 Server.exe.
    are not working.
After I opened the import dialog these services started.
For the first time after restarting the PC; I could import a small video and I could playback it without problems.
The second try of importing more videos (4 small ones), went well, but at the playback moment, everything freezed again.
I tried to restart lightroom and to kill the processes listed above, but I had no luck.
Only restarting the PC I could (and not always) importing the videos. The playback did work just few times.
If the first task, after restarting the PC and Lightroom is importing (without waiting the previews of the importing box) generally there is no problem.
If I work with my catalog, which contains videos as well, then the importing dialog (for videos) is not working.
The playback feature seems to be a matter of luck, 90% ot times is not working well.
    I run a Windows 7 64 bit machine.
A similar problem was reported as a bug in this post, and if so I wonder why there are not many other users reporting the same problems.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/973059?tstart=30
I really hope I can solve it, without waiting for a bug fix.
    Thank you

  • Iphoto'09 doesn't import the video made by Kodak DX6490 since update 10.6

Iphoto'09 doesn't import the video i made on my Kodak DX6490 since i've installed mac os 10.6 with an update from 10.5.8
The videos i made are .mov and with iphoto'09 and Leopard 10.5.8, it was possible to import them.
Have you seen this problem ? Any idea to correct it ?

    TD,
My comment regarding this problem was only meant to support your solution (test), not disparage it.
I was briefly trying to explain that I believe (anecdotally) Snow Leopard is not functioning correctly in regard to movie imports using normal import procedures.
At first I assumed it was a problem with iPhoto 06, and ordered a copy of iLife 09 for my daughter. Then I found this thread and IMHO it confirmed my workaround (kludge) solution. I would wager that she will have the same problem with iPhoto 09.
    It should "just work."
    I will report the outcome.

  • Import QuickTime file to iMovie 9= nothing

Suddenly, iMovie 9.01 would not recognise my latest Sony recording, perhaps because it was recorded in HD. Previous efforts have gone smoothly, I do not know if the previous recordings were recorded in HD or SD.
So, it was imported to a newer MacBook, then transfered to the MacPro desktop as a Quicktime file, 8.52 GB.
By selecting 'import movie', it seemed to import into iMovie '09.
However, after importing, nothing is visible- there are no clips or video shown, only the file title and a message where the video clips should be:
'No matching video. Choose a diferent option from the Show pop-up menu at the lower left corner.'
There are four choices given in the Show pop-up menu: Favorites only, Favorites and unmarked, All clips, and Rejected only.
Selecting any of these four choices has no effect.
How do I import a Quicktime file into iMovie?
    Thank you in advance, Isshi.

I have the same problem and read your response and cannot make any sense of it.
What is the "apps area of itunes"?
How about this? For some unknown reason, Apple requires your audio clips to be in itunes first , which is ridiculous.
And when you put them in, imovie won't recognize them. That is just bad design all the way around. Mine are in mp3 and something called m3a, and neither is recognized by this terribly designed program
