IMovie09 won't "duplicate project", erases projects

Hi. I have been having problems with my iMovie09. First, whenever I quit iMovie, when I go back to it, my Project has disappeared. One time it disappeared completely, and then when I re-made the project, and quit again, I came back to iMovie to find that it had kept only the 4-second-long "title page" of my project, and threw out the rest. In the HD, the name of the project still appeared, but I could not get anything but the 4-second-long version to appear anywhere. I even copied the original project onto a flash drive in the hopes that that way I'd have a "Safe" copy somewhere, but again, I can't access that copy in any way, shape or form.
Second problem: Now, I have re-made my project again, and before I quit and have iMovie trash the project again, I thought I'd make a duplicate of the project. Should be easy, right, since there's a "duplicate project" button right there in the File menu!?? But no. No duplicate appears in the Project Library. It still says "1 project". I looked in the HD iMovie project folder, and again found that the copies appeared there. But I can't access them. HELP!! I've looked at all kinds of tutorials and discussion forums, and no-one addresses this problem with a solution.
I have already tried these "solutions" that failed: 1. Trashing the iMovie preferences and re-starting; 2. making sure the movies are in the imovie project folder. (They are there, and were never moved elsewhere, but that is not helping me the way it seemed to have helped others.....)

I'm having kind of a similar problem. Not all of my photos appear in imovie, when I select iphoto. I've tried flagging them, but when I look at the flagged section in imovie, it tells me I have 0 results. I've tried putting them into an album, but when I select the album in imovie, it tells me that album is empty. I've tried adding them to an event, and, same deal, open imovie, and they're just not there.
I also tried dragging and dropping directly from iphoto - it won't let me, and I tried dragging and dropping from finder - won't let me. I have three scanned pics of ultrasound photos, done identically, one shows up just fine, the other two, not at all. I can't imagine what is different about them.
Same deal with a movie I wanted to make for my mom - I made an album in iphoto with all her pics in it - in imovie, only half the pics in the album show up.
I don't even know how to find out if the photos are jpeg, or what. I try clicking info, but all I get is that useless thing that has "description" and whatnot. How do you get actual info on a photo?

I'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original. So it's pointless. I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." What am I doing wrong? Or: How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

I have no idea why it is not working correctly.
Here's what it is supposed to do:
Duplicate projects as snapshots
The Duplicate as Snapshot command creates a self-contained copy of a project containing compound clips or multicam clips. Specifically, duplicating a project as a snapshot makes copies of the compound or multicam “parent” clips and embeds them in the project so that any changes to other instances of the clips do not affect the snapshot.
My suggestion is to trash the FCP X preferences in case there is an internal issue.

Where has "Duplicate Project + Used Clips" gone in 10.2 ?

I want to backup my project and all the media it uses to an external hard drive.
In 10.1 I could use, Duplicate Project + Used Clips , but where is that in 10.2?

I'm assuming you mean 10.1.2, not 10.0.2. For the recent version, connect the external drive. Make a new library on it and set the library properties to be managed media, so the media in inside the library. Drag the project from the existing event on your drive to the event on the external drive, that will copy the project and the used media to that event. You'll also have the option to copy render and optimized media. I'd forget about that. Mail the drive and your colleague should be good to go.

Duplicate Project Structure question...

I really appreciate the Duplicate Project Structure feature in A3. I can set up a default structure while I am on the road and simply duplicate it for each days shoot. However I ran into a problem...
If I have a Smart Album, say for "3 stars and above" in the root of the original project and then duplicate the Project, the new Smart Album works fine.
However if I have a folder inside the Project, say "By Rating" and then put my Smart Album inside the folder, when I duplicate the Project, the new Smart Album now points to the "By Rating" folder, and images with 3 stars and above do NOT show up.
Of course I can change each Smart Album to point to the new project, but I have many albums in each project, and this kind of defeats the purpose of being able to duplicate the project to begin with.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?

Deleting duplicate projects.

Brand new to Aperture and relatively new to Mac. Just installed Aperture and imported my 30,000 photos from I-photo. I have numerous duplicate projects because my initial uploads to I-photo came from old PC hard drives, I-phones, cameras that had already been uploaded to the old hard drives, etc. With the duplicate Aperture projects that I now have, am I now safe to delete one of the projects without affecting the other duplicate project, and if so, will this also entirely remove the files from the hard drive? Thanks.

Deleting one project shouldn't affect other projects, as each has its own master photos. If you delete the project, AND the photos are managed (i.e. in the Aperture library), then it should remove the files from the HD.
Be SURE you have a backup. I'd recommend an up-to-date vault before you go about doing anything, so you can be sure.

Duplicate Project + Used Clips Only not working as expected.

I am revisiting this once again and have had some good information on the matter, but I am not getting the results I think I should.

I want to archive ONLY the project and clips used for a project.
If I export my project using the current settings (ProRes) then shouldn't the Duplicate Project and Used Clips only feature give me a a backup that is roughly the same size as my exported Quicktime?
Currewntly when I use any of the Duplicate operations other than the 1st, all media is duplicated, not just what is needed.
Has anyone had success with just getting what you need for the project?
The reason why I don't want to archive all of the media outside the project is due to hard drive space. I have the camera raws backed up already. I just want to be able to open the project again if needed and only the project with necessary media.

When you say " I also changed the default start to 7:30 and end 4:30", are you talking about the
project information in the project tab? You're supposed to be able to specify only one of the parameters (start date or finish date) depending if you're back-planning or not.
Check if the option "ignore resource calendar" on the task if checked.
Also try to press F9.
Are the task manually scheduled? Do you have constraints on the tasks?
Maybe share a screenshot so it'll be easier to help you.

Premiere Won't Load Project

From the splash Screen instead of picking from the list on the splash screen I decided to choose OPEN and then choose the file and it seemed to work.

Duplicate Project Problem

I'm using FCP X 10.0.7
I have a project that i want to duplicate to an external HD (a Lacie Thunderbolt) for both backup and - perhaps more importantly - so that I can plug that external HD into my laptop with FCP X and open the project on there as well. I have done this in the past and it works fine.
This time I've obviously done something wrong and am not sure what.
I chose "Duplicate Project + Used Clips" and chose the external disc as the destination.
The duplication takes place.
On my desktop computer (27inch iMac running Lion 10.7.5 with a Intel Core i7) when I check to make sure the duplication was successful, I'm able to see that everything has been moved - including the original media. However, when I plug the external drive into my MacBook Pro (2.3 Intel Core i7 - same OS as desktop) every single file is the dredded red "Missing File". Furthermore, when I look at the actual files using Finder on the laptop, the Original Media Files are all "Alias" files. When I look at those same files on the desktop, they are original QT files. When I attempt to "Relink Project Files" on the laptop I get a message that says it can't find the files, despite me searching for them on the external HD where I thought I'd copied them.

This happens when the media was not copied into the event folder when it was imported. You should use the organize media function.

Final Cut won't open project, stops at 0% or 1% while reading project

Smaller projects will open, but all of a sudden this large project (with HVX-200 HD footage) which I've been editing for several months won't open. Final cut opens fine but when it starts to read the project, it never gets passed 2%, and I have to force quit. I am running the project off of two lacie 500GB drives. What should I do?

Duplicate the project on the Desktop and try opening that.
Try opening your last autosave - resave and try working off of that.

IMovie won't save project

I recently added a 500G disk to my system and moved all of my movies and projects over to the new disk. Using iMovie on a rather large project has been working fine until just recently. After working on it for hours, I emptied the trash, saved the project and closed the program. I had to re-open the project a couple of minutes later for something else, and when I tried to save, I got a "you don't have rights to this disk or the disk is full" error. I closed and opened another project to modify a clip, and when I tried to share it to Quicktime, I got the same error. I saved the file to the main hard drive with no problem.
Now, there is over 400G available on this disk. I don't know why the program all of the sudden decided the disk was full or the rights where changed (which they weren't). I changed no system parameters from the time I closed the project the first time until I re-opened it a few minutes later, so I really baffled here. Anyone have any ideas or things I can try to see if I can save to this disk again?
(And yes, from any other program, I can save/copy/delete files to the disk as normal).

Your external disk probably is formatted for Windows. To work with iMovie it must be formatted Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Extended (journaled). Otherwise it won't work with iMovie, even though it may work with other Apple programs.
Windows formatted disks have a 4GB limitation on the size that you can save, and that may be why your disk is showing full.
Check your external disk to see if it is formatted for windows. If it is, you can reformat to Apple by using the Disk Utility app on your Mac, but you must first remove all of the data from your disk to another disk because reformatting will erase all of the data on the disk.

IMovie won't open projects

iMovie 11 won't open any of my projects ...I can see the projects in finder, but when I click open w/iMovie iMovie opens but does not open any projects and then crashes. Help!

Got it. Thanks. Deleted teh plist file. Seemed to help when I reopened imovie - listed all projects, but froze up again when I tried to open one. Went back to Library/Preferences, but no new plist file created. Should I try deleting the plist.lockfile file? Each plist file seems to have a lockfile file. Thanks again.

DVDSP3 Won't Make New Buttons, Won't Open Project Files

HELP!!!!
The button editor in my DVDSP 3.02 stopped working after it opens a new project file. I mean, when you go to a menu and then hold down the mouse button and drag, nothing happens. It will not create any new buttons. Even if you drag a button template over and use the pop-up submenu. It will not create any buttons.
Worse is what happens when I open an existing project file. Then it stalls forever at the "Loading Menus" point in the "Loading Project" dialog. It doesn't crash, it just stalls there forever. However, if I click "cancel" - THEN the app crashes.
But it won't make buttons in the new project files it can open, and it won't open any existing project files. Very confusing.
Here's what I know and have done to this point...
If I watch this whole process in the Activity Monitor, here's what I see. I find that two apps named "DSPX_AEncoderServer" and "DSPX_EncoderServer" get hung (and turn red) when the "Loading menus" point is reached in the document load. Sometimes DVDSP will say it's hung, too, but not always.
However, I found that my DVDSP app still runs flawlessly if I boot from my "clone" backup drive, which is how I'm still able to get work done currently.
Back on my normal boot drive, all of the other Apple Pro apps still run perfectly - FCP, Compressor, A-Pack, etc. But not DVDSP.
OK, here's a clue, but I don't know what it means. Two months ago, I had the logic board replaced on my G4. All the pro apps made me re-register. Then this DVDSP problem appeared out of the blue. Nothing fixed it that I could find. What made it finally go away was the timely arrival of a new Security Update to the OS via "Software Update." Installing that made the problem with DVDSP go away, for good.
Not doing hard drive maintenance, repairing privleges, fully optimizing OS, Disk Warrrior, Norton DiskDoctor - none of them worked. But that Security Update showing up, installing, and then doing the post-install optimize fixed the problem. That time. Or maybe it didn't? Because...
Two weeks ago the FW ports on the "new" logic board blew, just like the original, so AppleCare gave me a third logic board.
Same deal as before with all the pro apps wanting to re-register because they are seeing a different serial number in firmware.
Also, just like before, I have this trouble with DVDSP. But I can't fix it this time.
In the past three days (two of which were really one "large" day with no sleep period in between) here's what I have done in an attempt to fix this, without success.
I dumped the receipts for the DVDSP v3 installs and upgrades, then I reinstalled the DVDSP components from my original disc, and then reinstalled the online 3.02 upgrade. No go.
I did all of the above, except this time I found an Apple TechNote on deinstalling DVDSP v2. So using that as a guide I did my best to delete the app and all its supporting files, as well as the install receipts, before doing a fresh install of the app and the v3.02 upgrade. No go.
I did a plethora of hard drive and system maintenance thinking that perhaps some files had been misplaced, a hard drive directory corrupted, a bundle bit here or there un-set, a few system libraries de-optimized, various font and system caches corrupted, as well as numerous log files too filled up with "essential" data to run correctly therefore in need of deletion.
Along with anything else I could think of based on my 20+ years of supporting Macs in a production environment. Again, no go.
So I deleted all the DVDSP files and receipts from my boot drive again. Then I dumped all the install receipts for OS 10.3.9 and ran the "combo" version installer for that OS upgrade. Next I dumped the receipts for the Security Updates and reinstalled those. Then I did drive maintenance, OS permission fixing and optimizing. Then reinstalled DVDSP and friends. Still no go.
But my version of the app that is on my backup hard drive that I cloned right before taking the Mac to the shop for the 3rd logic board still runs just fine. I boot off that drive (connected via Firewire) and DVDSP will run fine.
I'm confused.
Now I'm not inclined to spend a lot more time on this since my DVDSP 4 upgrade is due for delivery any day now, and I'm sure that will work OK. Especially since I'm planning on moving to Tiger at that point, too.
But in the meantime, it sure would be nice to know what happened to my "regular" copy of DVDSP.
Can anyone figure this out, or at least give me some new ideas on now to troubleshoot this?
Apple Support refuses to help me because I'm still using an "unsupported" version of DVDSP. Even though I'm still using it because my purchased upgrade is being delivered via "media mail" - the US Postal Service's version of the proverbial "Slow Boat."
That was a difficult and frustrating conversation withthe Apple Support rep, too, let me tell you. I've been a fan, user, customer, supporter, and evangelist for Apple hardware and software since 1984. But when that voice on the other end of the phone essentially told me that...
a) if I was not using the latest and greatest version of the software, AND...
b) if I was not willing to spend several hundred dollars each year on support fees...
...then I was basically on my own and they would not help me. Worse, they didn't care that I was an old and loyal customer, or that I was even a stockholder in the company. The support system essentially told me to get stuffed. Yee-e-e-ow!!!!
I was especially mad about this because I have this nagging suspicion that this whole problem I'm having with DVDSP is somehow related to some kind of copy protection scheme that Apple has going on but doesn't talk about.
I mean why did I need to re-enter the serial numbers for all my pro apps when I changed logic boards? Is my problem being caused by some Pro App component that knows enough to stop working when it thinks it's been bootlegged, but doesn't know enough to trigger a re-registration of itself.
At this point, that idea is beginning to sound more and more plausible as the cause of my trouble.
Anyway, this problem is seriously hurting my workflow. I'm out of ideas and I need some guidance from the collected wisdom of the forum to solve this problem.

I had reinstalled that ProApps Support version, but I hadn't done it since I deleted all the app files and such, then done a complete reinstall from the DVD.
So I just downloaded it afresh, and then installed it. Then I restarted, and then repaired permissions with Disk Utility.
Still no go.
I'm bamboozled. I thought I knew something about this stuff, but I guess it's good to stay humble.
However, my 5.1 studio upgrade just arrived in today's mail. I think I'm going to take a chance. I'm between projects right now. So I'm going to upgrade my OS to Tiger>then 10.4.6 upd. Then I'll take a shot at installing the new FCP Studio upgrade and see what happens.
Any comments or advice? Otherwise, wish me luck. I'll let you know how this works out with a post here.
Sure wish I could figure out what's going on with my DVDSP v3, though. I really HATE to leave unresolved problems hanging out there. Seems like they always come back to bite you again if you don't deal with them.

Upgraded FlexBuilder to 2.01 .. Now CF App wizard won't compile projects.

I just installed the upgrade for flexbuilder 2.01. Was
working on a cf application wizard project and got to the end and
found out the compiler won't work. Googled for an answer and found
info that says a change was made late in the release that is
causing this. Seems you now need to add an addtional argument
-context-root "" in the complier string.
Context root for server-based projects - The New Project
Wizard now allows you to specify a context root when creating a
Flex Data Services (FDS) or ColdFusion project. The context root is
a name assigned when deploying a J2EE web application (FDS and
ColdFusion are considered “web applications” from the
J2EE perspective). It distinguishes one web application from
another web application on the server and forms part of its root
URL. The Flex services configuration needs to know this value in
order to construct the correct URLs to the FDS or ColdFusion root.
If it is incorrect, Flex services may throw errors at runtime
relating to unreachable server URLs.
Note: ColdFusion servers that use the standard configuration
(that is, they don't use the multiserver or J2EE configurations)
can leave this setting at its default value. However, if you
created projects with the 2.0.0 version of the ColdFusion
Extensions for Flex Builder, you must add -context-root "" to the

However this does not work for me.
It does not compile. I've tried a number of things but none
seem to work. Is there anyone here who can shed some light or has a
work around that does work?

I've tried Build solution, Rebuild solution, Clean solution and then build solution and also all of the above for just the project. Not to mention, delete the folder and checkout from the source control once more. In the other words, any combination I could
think of.

IDVD won't take projects from FC

Hi I'm working with iDVD 7 but after upgrading to 7.0.4 it doesn't take any video format. I normally used to drag FCP movies and drope it into iDVD without any problems, but now it won't take any videos or whatsoever. I've tried to convert videos using quicktime conversion to some formats listed as acceptable formats for iDVD with no succes at all. In adition I tried to open previous projects buta mesage appears on the screen:
THE FOLLOWING FILES COULD NOT BE FOUND: Macintosh HD/library/Aplication Suport/iDVD/Themes/iDVD 7/Audio.
I'm really concerned about this problem so, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Part of iDVD has gone missing. Reinstall the application from the iLife disc that came with your computer or from a retail copy if you have since upgraded it.
