Imovie3 and os tiger

Hello,
when I use imovie 3.0.3 in os X 10.4, imovie shows up in 'viewing' mode only : the tabs at the side (clips, photos, audio, titles, transitions etc) are gone, so I cannot edit any movie.
This is normal ??
Only solution to upgrade imovie or downgrad os x ??
Thx for your help

Thanks for your answer.
I did click on the spots where the tabs should be ... they didn't show up ... but maybe I didn't try long enough ?
And in the mean time I installed back my old version of osx, I wanted to start working with imovie, so I cannot try clicking anymore.
But anyway, now I know it should work, so maybe I' ll try upgrading again and click longer .... (although I am happy with my os-version now, it seems to me the more I upgrade the more problems appear)

After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and my ipod (Classic 160gb) it would seem that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior to the original harddrive's failure for Tiger OSX 10.4.11
Any ideas on the subject would be most helpful
    Thanks in advance

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

  • Can I uninstall leopard and install tiger without problems?

I'm considering purchasing a refurb iMac - I don't want an iMac mind you, but the Mac Pros are simply priced way over my head and I need a new computer!
I can't get a straight answer from Apple about whether it will have Tiger or Leopard on it but because of Adobe's refusal to make CS2 compatible with Leopard, I must use Tiger.
I've been told I can, if I must, uninstall Leopard and reinstall Tiger but I've also been told I'll end up with a host of problems doing that
does anyone know if this will work or not?
Apple is driving me crazy... no one will asnwer that question for me
and why they don't have a mid-range Mac Pro is beyond me but what do I know?
    thank you

    Hi liliths!
I look at the Apple Store refurbs list on a daily basis.
The longer you wait, the higher the chances that you will receive an iMac that was produced following Oct 26, and was therefore released with Leopard as the MINIMUM version of OS X. Currently, I'd guess that there is VERY little (almost zero) chance of that - today - but more chance as each day passes.
A refurb purchased now will have Tiger on DVD, and Tiger installed. The box will contain an upgrade disc that will install Leopard.
As time goes on, Apple will start to receive Leopard Macs (Leopard on DVD, and installed, but no Tiger) produced after Oct 26 that get shipped back from the stores after buyers have returned them. Those returns to Apple, and Apple's refurbishment process, do not occur overnight. Those Leopard Macs will not be able to run Tiger, or if they will run it, it will not be supported by Apple (no phone support/no warranty until Leopard would be installed).
Refer to this Apple Support article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25497
There are some (lower-priced) Mac Pros sold with the slower processor option, but they are seldom seen on the refurb list, and sell quickly when do appear. One would certainly sell within minutes of being placed on the list this close to the holidays. (A good alternative at a close price w/o sales tax: eBay 250194178376)
There are others besides Apple selling the older production Macs and advertising that they have Tiger on them, not Leopard. (From a third party, I very recently purchased a Mac Pro NIB with Tiger only.) Those units will be available less and less as each day goes by. I have purchased a Leopard family pack for possible future use.
Don't wait too long to make up your mind, or the choice will no longer be available for you:) A mid-priced Mac Pro might be one of the last G5s, so you might want to look at eBay item 120191603098 (I have no affiliation on either eBay item, just a bystander).

As to the question iMac vs Mac Pro or G5 - do you already have a display for a tower? A big factor in the decision.

  • Saving Mail before erasing hard drive and reinstalling tiger

I might need to erase my hard disk and reinstall Tiger. I would like to keep my mail app how it is. Last time I tried syncing my Mail App to my online mail accounts not all the mail was downloaded to MAIL. Anyone know some ways to go about this.

First reinstalling Tiger is rarely necessary.
Second .Mac sync only syncs the rules and preferences for Mail. It does not sync messages.

  • Has anyone abandoned Leopard and reinstalled Tiger due to freeze?

I have an iMac that was purchased just weeks before the new generation came out. It worked perfect until I bought and installed Leopard. I recently became too frustrated with the constant freezing and general hicups that the installation of Leopard caused and reinstalled Tiger. Anyone else gone through this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Most of the time it shouldn't matter which operating system is installed. The only difference is if you rely on third party software or hardware which hasn't been tested with the operating system in question. Data corruption can lead to freezes, as well as directory issues. Reinstalling an older operating system typically involves erasing a system, so you never get to really test for the data corruption in the first place, and never really learn why an issue started. And if you tried to archive and install over a broken system, you usually just get a broken system in the end.
Point is, try to troubleshoot your issues with Leopard first, after backing up your data*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
If you can't figure out why it is happening, you can try an erase and install and try to reproduce it.
The moment you add anything third party, or older unknown if tested software, test for the problematic conditions.
If you still can reproduce it, try erase and installing an older system.
If it is not reproducible in an older system, it says that software or hardware hasn't been tested with the newer system and you should contact that vendor to ask for an update.

  • How to properly clean install: erase, partition hard drive, and install tiger then SL

    Hello,
I am a noob at this, so if responders would be kind enough to be detailed / specific with any instructions it would be most helpful! I own a dinosaur apparently (even though I don't think so): the white (not unibody) Intel macbook2,1 (late 2006) 1.83 GHz with currently 1GB of RAM, but I have 2x2GB RAM sitting next to me ready for install. However, first I would like to do a clean uninstall of my computer (running OS X 10.6.8 SL). I also would like to properly partition my hard drive while I'm at it.
About 6 months ago I had serious crashing issues, along with kernel panics, hangs, applications randomly appearing & disappearing, system settings and options doing the same, fans running high (probably due to the low RAM available), and basically overall screwiness. So, after trying pretty much every option I could find on this community...and many others... (e.g. clean cache, clean old logs, already did a clean uninstall and install of SL, and much much more) I have reached my wits end. I would say that to date I've wasted a good solid 2 months with this.
The clean install worked for MAYBE a month or so, but then it started acting up again with the fans (even without high pages in/out, CPU or memory usage) and excessive heat, along with the apps freezing and quitting (mind you it would be only two things open such as 1 word document and then firefox-- with flash disabeled). SOOOOOO long story short, I have purchased new RAM and I would like to try this once again, but to ensure I don't screw it up this time I would like some directions as to how to do the uninstall, partition, then reinstall. (currently to date I ensured all updates are completed---even though they are no longer released for SL, and I just did a full backup).
Also, I need to first install Tiger (my original OS) as when I went to do a hardware test the other day this was not an option (and upon further research it is due to me not using Tiger as a first install and then using my mac box set for SL). I didn't use my original OS first because....one issue encountered when I had tried to install Tiger was that my Disc 2 (the applications one) took around 1.5 hrs to complete, but when I reached the last step of glory where I expected it to say COMPLETE it instead said that there was some sort of issue with the disc..........of course).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1: If near a Apple Store or Authorized Repair, take it to then for a free evaluation, it might have other hardware problems now that it would be a waste of effort even continuing.
2: The RAM needs to be
    Maximum Memory
3.0 GB (Actual) 2.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
Basically what this means is you can put in a 2GB module and a 1GB module for 3GB total.
I wouldn't proceed with installing RAM just yet, not until you get a stable OS X version on the machine, you might have a hard drive needing to be replaced as well which you can do while inserting new RAM.
3: This User Tip can assist in installing 10.6 Snow Leopard, partition format etc.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Software Update fully immediately after setup.
There is no need to install Tiger, he 10.6 disk contains the full 10.6 version, you can either install the iLife from Tiger disks or use Pacifist from Charlesoft to extract them and place on your new install, then Software update to get them current.
4: If not successful then the drive also likely needs to be replaced, if so choose a 7,200 RPM SATA I  w/1.5Gb/s connection.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
    Repeat #3
If your getting beeping noises or "you need to restart" issues, it's likely one or more of the RAM modules is bad. Have it exchanged or swapped.
I advise good quality RAM the first time, if you buy cheap stuff it's just going back.
Don't go any further than 10.6.8 with that old machine, the performance will be terrible.

  • HP P1006 LaserJet printer and G4 Tiger computer - printing problems

Help. I bought a new HP P1006 LaserJet printer for a friend that has a G4 Computer that is running Tiger (10.4.11). I set everything up. I tried to print "one" page, to make sure all was well. Well...all was NOT well. It took nearly 4-5 minutes to print the page with just lines of text from a Word document. Does anyone know what could be wrong. I selected to print one page, then hit the print button. Then the computer started "thinking" and making all kinds of "thinking noises". Eventually it printed the page, but it too FOREVER.
I have three HP LaserJet printers. Two are working off another G4 running Tiger, and the other is working off a G5 and a Mac Mini Intel. When I print, it prints within seconds.
    Please help me.

  • Can I boot and install Tiger on a G4 running 9.2.2 from an external DVD

I have a Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics) computer running OS 9.2.2. Firmware version I believe is 3.2.8. I purchased OS X Tiger DVD. I do not have a DVD drive on this Mac. I cannot seem to start up the Power Mac in Target mode via firewire. When I checked Apple website this Mac is not on list as able to be a target volume. Therefore, to avoid ordering CD's from Apple, I was hoping to buy an external DVD drive and use that to install from. Before I buy the new drive, I wanted to be sure this will work. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The PowerMac G4 PCI Graphics can't boot from Firewire.
It also can't run Target Disk Mode.
The AGP Graphics was the first one that could.
That's documented in the articles here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58606
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Make doubly sure it is a PCI graphics by reading this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
The PCI graphics needs no firmware update.
But I would make sure you have at least a 20 GB hard drive and 512 MB of RAM before installing and following the specs for your machine when it comes to the RAM

  • Want to erase hard drive and reinstall Tiger- quick questions

I am giving my G4 to my son in a couple of days and it now has Classic on it. My plan is to erase the whole hard drive and install just Tiger. So my thoughts are:
1.) There are no settings I want/need to preserve. I have 4 Tiger CD's- is that the right number? I think I have them all but just want to make sure.
2.) Do I insert CD holding down the C key and from some point when the CD loads, I chose Disk Utility and wipe the hard drive then? Are there different choices for wiping the hard drive? Like the number of passes?
3.) And then is it just a simple matter of installing all 4 Tiger disks?
Any other tips, tricks, advice you can give me? Tomorrow's the big day (2/1)! Thanks so much, I am a bit nervous about this......... Judy

  • Microsoft XBox 360 HD DVD drive and Panther/Tiger with USB 1?

Hi, I've looked everywhere for this information, but is it possible to connect my Microsoft XBox 360 HD DVD drive into my blue and white (which runs Tiger, but wondering if this'll work with Panther for another computer). I don't currently have my blue and white G3 to test it with... So, can I connect it to my blue and white and read JUST data CDs and DVDs under USB1.1? Is it bearable? Could I run a DVD game, or is it too slow? And yes, I do have a DVD Dual layer burning drive in my blue and white, but this is just a question for a computer I want to buy, which would run Panther.. And I do know I can't boot off of this, since it is USB...
    thank you...
    josephberte

According to a report posted here, someone connected an XBox 360's HD-DVD drive to a Mac's USB port and it was recognized. If you're intending to connect it to a Mac with PCI slots and running OS 10.2.8 or newer, you can and should install a USB 2.0 card. A card having an NEC controller chip will be more Mac-compatible than others. If you plan to connect it to a Mac without USB 2.0 upgrade capability, using the onboard USB 1.1 bus will be limiting. I've got an external Pioneer DVD±RW USB drive, but I've never tried connecting it to my B&W G3's onboard USB 1.1 port to read DVD data disks (I connect it to the USB 2.0 PCI card). Try it and see what happens - you can't damage anything. In addition to the Mac's CPU speed and graphics capabilities, playing a DVD game would require a faster bus than USB 1.1. Hopefully, you can install a USB 2.0 PCI card and enjoy optimal performance.

  • Uninstall leopard on my quicksilver g4 and reinstall tiger

I have run into serious problems with leopard on my quicksilver mac. I get the kernal panic. I have tried disk warrior and it shuts down.I tried to reinstall tiger, which ran perfectly in the past. It tells me that I have to upgrade panther to 10.3. and then upgrade to tiger. I had been running Tiger for 2 years but it doesn't seem to know that. I can't get into the computer to do this. I repurchased Panther and tried to reinstall it and it says I can not do that. There was a system error. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

It is very likely that your problem is not with the OS version you are running but with your hard drive. Try booting from an installer optical disk (preferably the Leopard retail one) & instead of running an installer, run Disk Utility from its "Utilities" menu. Try running its "Repair Disk" function on your internal hard drive. If this hangs or is unable to repair all problems it finds, you will probably have to reformat the drive. *Note that this will erase all data on it, so you must have a backup of at least your user files or you will lose everything!*
    Some background info:
Disk Warrior is a fine utility but like any other such utility, you must run a version of it that is compatible with the Tiger/Leopard file system to prevent problems. Additionally, if you try to boot the computer from a Disk Warrior CD, it must include an OS capable of booting your Mac model. Refer to the Disk Warrior web site for more info about this.
If your Tiger installer disk says that you must upgrade the existing OS, it is what is known as an "upgrade" disk, not a full or retail Tiger installer. It would not tell you that you have to "upgrade panther to 10.3" because 10.3 is Panther. It is telling you that it is only capable of installing Tiger (10.4) over Panther (10.3). Thus, if you have any other OS version such as Tiger or Leopard installed, it will tell you that it can't do the install.
All retail & some other installer disks offer several install options, depending on what they find installed on the target drive. See for example Installing Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard for more info about this. The option & target drive you choose determines if the installation is possible or not.

  • Samsung CLP 510 and OS Tiger Classic

My Samsung CLP 510 usb printer just prints fine in OS Tiger with the driver provided by Samsung. However when i try a printout in classic, it does not work. The printer is connected via usb. The chooser option with the laserwriter 8 does not work. If i try to print there is the message, that the printer is not available. The desktop printer utility in classic does not find the CLP as an usb device.
So i tried the LPD option with the TCP adress from my mac and the printer queue name provided by OS Tiger. If i try to print there is the following error message: error -8873 printer is busy or switched off.
    Powermac G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Thanks Greg,
finally I found out what is going wrong. The firewall in os x tiger should be configured with active printer sharing. The print monitor for classic should be deactivated.
The desktop printer utlility is not able to recognize some usb printers. So I decided to configure it as LPD Printer with the adress of my G5. The printer queue should be the exact name as in OS Tiger. So I created two desktop printers, one for the Samsung CLP, the other one for my HP Laserjet 3015. All print jobs are now transfered to the Cups OS X drivers. Works like a charm.

  • Will there be Compatible software and freeware(Tiger to Leopard)?

    I'm on a g5 Tiger 10.4.11.
iknow many programs won't work anymore. but are there or will there be tons of freeware etc that can serve as alternates to programs that i like/and use in Tiger.
For example on program that will not work anymore is Intuem 2 ( MIDI SEquencer) that i have now in Tiger. That *****..but oh well Garageband is a great alternate.
A Utility called photo Drop.. i can use it to make copies of graphic images but mirror them. mirror batches of images at a time, really fast. Useful if making 2D games where you need chracters to face both ways. This one will most likely not work in Snow leopard
My Microsoft office 2004 won't work and that's sad.. but ....i guess i can use the program PAGES. However, most work related stuff , companies, hiring managers accepting resumes, etc.. want things in word format.. i don't kow if PAGES can do that
Screenflick, a program to capture movies of your desktop or any part of the desktop you want,, most likely wont' work and i payed for it
Final cut Express 3.5 mostlikely will not work well in SL. only thing to do is get FCE 4..
OH and these next three are sad: Art Rage 2.5( free)will not work..
Corel Painter essentials 2 will not work i'm guessing, and PHotoshop elements 3 wo'nt work...
I hope there are free alternates cause i don't want t o buy tons of software.( and i won't)
Anyways, i know eventually after months, people will make versions of popular Tiger compatible software into Snow leopard compatible ones but not right now, and now is when i'm getting my new mac with SLeopard...
    I have hope though

FWIW, MS Office '04 has worked with SL for over year (while I was beta-testing SL and since it went public). I don't use any of the others. However, here's a list of what works: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/topic4883.html

  • Reformatting and reinstalling tiger

My computer shipped with OS 10.3. I later upgraded to Tiger. For reasons too lengthy to explain I have to reformat and reinstall. Do I reinstall OS 10.3 and then 10.4 or can I begin with 10.4? What about original apps?

There's no need to reinstall Mac OS X 10.3 if you want to end up with 10.4 on your Mac. If you reformat your disk drive, you will also need to reinstall your apps after you reinstall Mac OS X 10.4, but I suggest that before you reinstall your apps, you do all the OS updates first, to get to 10.4.8.
Before you install each update, I suggest you run the repair disk permissions, then do it again after the update.
Of course, be sure to back up your files before you reformat your hard drive.

  • Dual Boot OSX Tiger 10.4.8 and OSX Tiger 10.4.8 Server

I would like to know how I could have 1 hard drive with 2 Volumes. One running Tiger and one running Tiger Server. I would like to use it to test my applications to make sure that what I'm developing in Tiger will also work find in Server.
Is this possible? And how would I choose between the two?
Also similar topic, but if I was to become ADC and get Leopard would I would be able to dual boot 10.4.8 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard and 10.4.8 Tiger Server on the same hard drive with three different Volumes?

I'm not familiar with the Tiger Server software/requirements but you can certainly partition the hard drive into two partitions each with a boot volume.
To choose between the two, you can make use of the Startup Manager to choose the startup or boot volume when starting up or restarting the computer.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
