Imovie8

Hmm. I just started using imovie8. I'm sure this is old hat to most of you, but am I wrong for wanting my old imovie back?!? Yikes. On top of everything being so different and old options no longer existing, it keeps closing on me. Does imovie 8 only work on Leopard? I didn't upgrade to Leopard yet.
Thanks for your help!

Hello Silverbox,
Unfortunately, pretty much all the talk on these boards are the result of people having problems and so one could believe there are plenty of people who are/were disappointed with iMovie 08. We don't hear from the happy folks, for the most part. If more people would do some research, before buying new software or any of the new hard drive or DVD cams, there would be lots less posts here too!
08 is supposed to work with Tiger also. What really matters is the age of your equipment. I think G4's are unable to load iMovie 08, but I am not positive about that.
Unless you are into quickie little movies, which iMovie 08 was completely redesigned for, I'd suggest you forget about 08 and go back to the last, best iMovie we may ever see, that being 06.

Are you referring to the iLife 08 iMovie version? The next version: iMovie 9.0.9 works (I have it and use it as well as the old iMovie HD 06) - it is part of the iLife 11 disk. Depending on what you use it for (upload to the internet or burn DVD's), you may want to check out that version rather than the new iMovie 11 at the app store because it is cloud centric, but only allows for a couple of export options to get it to iDVD for burning.

  • Imovie8 Import Incomplete Project

How can I re-inport an incomple imovie8 project back into the Imovie Project library, from its current position in the home imovie projects file?
    It wont allow it?
IDVD wont accept it either with the message... "that it hasnt been prepared for sharing.  First open the file in Imovie and prepare for sharing"...which it cant be.
    Cheers tach masters

In the Finder, move the rcproject file to the Movies/iMovie Projects folder. Then open iMovie. You should see this project in the Project Library view.

I cannot import a Quicktime file (.mov) which I generated from a slide show out of iPhoto8 in iMovie8 (filename is grey); what did I wrong?

iMovie 08 will only import files that contain codecs that it can edit. It will generally import audio and video codecs that iPhoto generates. However, if your iPhoto slideshow contains a manual advance track, iMovie cannot edit this and therefore will not import. In iPhoto, check to see if you can do a timed advance rather than a manual advance. Then it should import.

  • Transfer from imovie6 to imovie8

how can i transfer an open project from Imovie6 to Imovie8?

how can i transfer an open project from Imovie6 to Imovie8?
"Import iMovie HD Project" under the File menu. This does not, however retain transitions and such. You can, however, import the current iMovie HD timeline as a movie. Simply open the iMovie HD package, navigate to the media folder, and import the video files to iMovie '08. May or may not be what you want here.

  • A small question about iMovie8 to Web Gallery

I have used all previous versions of iMovie and have had great results. I admit that I am stymied by iMovie8 and have kept using iMovie6 HD. The time has come for me to use both...
Yesterday, I created a movie in iMovie6 HD and exported it in Quicktime, then uploaded it to my .Mac website. All worked perfectly.
I now wish to take that same Quicktime movie, import it into iMovie8, and then share/export to a Web Gallery.
I have imported the QT movie and it has gone into the Events window. After having searched and searched the iMovie 8 Help files, and this board, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take that Event (my QT imported movie) and get it to a Web Gallery.
When I click Share, everything is greyed out. Do I have to somehow get the QT movie Event into the Projects pane? If so, how??? I have a feeling that once it's up in the Projects pane I'll be able to Share. I just don't know how to get any further.
    Thanks,
    Rachel.

    Yes.
Create a new project and drag the clip or portions of it from the events pane to the project pane and share.

  • Import Analog 8mm Home Movies thru ADVC 110  NEED LOSS LESS Format -IMovie8

Works fine however Import defaults to an .mv4 file.
Is this a Loss Less Format and if not is IMovie8 capable of a Loss Less type format like IMovie dv or similar.
if So how do I change the setting to get the highest quality import of my old analog 8mm home movies ?
    Thank You
    Daniel

    Hi
You don't use iMovie'08 or 09 but iMovie HD 6 or FinalCut.
iMovie'08 & 09 discard every second line when importing interlaced video.
(Or when exporting it out to DVD at least - Not my favourite for intelaced (normal TV/and miniDV tape) material)

  • How can I get my projects into iMovie8?

I have an eMac running iMovie4 and just bought a macbook with iMovie8. I can't seem to get any of my projects from the old iMovie into the new iMovie. Is there a guide somewhere for doing this?

As an owner of iMovie '08 (which is version 7 by the way) you can dowmload iMovie 6 for free.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
iMovie '08 is more of a video library (think iTunes, iPhoto) than a video editor. iMovie 6 is still a video editor and can import your iMovie 4 projects without problems. Just make sure you got all your third-party plugins installed.

  • Unhappy with imovie8

I have iMovie6 on my desktop mac, and I love it, with the added effects features, and overall has been easier for me to use. However on my new laptop I have imovie8 and am not happy with it. I would like the convenience of working on my laptop, is there anyway I can get a 6.0.1 download link?

iMovie'08 is iMovie 7 and doesn't run under G4 processor
You need iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4) that can be downloaded from:

  • I have imovie8.0.6 but cannot transfer from my sony hdr sr1. i think, if i upgrade to version 9,0,4 that this will work. but i need a version of 9.0.0 to upgrade. help please

i wish to upgrade to imovie 9.0.4 but the upgrade is only possible if i already have version 9.0.0. therefore i need advice please on how to upgrade in sequences from8.0.6 or are there anyother ways to do this please.? I read that with version of imovie 9.0.0 or later that i can transfer my hd and lesser resolution movies.

Thank you Neil,I have a macbook pro with snow leopard v.10.6.8.included intell core 2 duo with a processor speed 2.5ghb with one processor and cores 2.
can i download onto my laptop an update  by internet to my imovie 8.0.6 directly or as i have read, the system will not let me do that unless i have imovie 9.0.0 already which i do not have.
Perhaps i misunderstand you. Do you mean purchase a software copy from an apple Store and the can i directly upgrade.

No. This is a new feature in iMovie 09.

  • Imovie8 : how to variate the level of the different sounds ?

I look for extracting a sound and variate the level of the sounds of some parts of a clip or an event.
Unfortunately, Imovie Help gives replies useful for Imovie HD or Imovie 6 which have a "Visualiseur de la chronologie < extraire l'audio").
But imovie 7 and 8 has no more "visualiseur" and it is impossible to make variate the level of the differents sounds on an event (or a clip).
There is no explanation at all about this part of editing.
    Where to find it ?
Sorry for my poor english... and thanks by advance to everyone !

    Alan
Working with soundlevels is partly possible in iMovie 08, but not as detailed as in iMovie 06. You can use multiple tracks though and use autodugging and change audiolevels for a clip or background.
Here are some very usefull tips for working with audio in iMovie 08 (English though)
    http://imovie08.blogspot.com/search/label/Audio
If you want more fine-tunig than presently possible you could export your project to garageband (or mediachooser, and open up in Garageband)

  • Sony HVRV1U not recognize in FCE4 and Imovie8: why?

Hi, I am a new Imac user and am trying to transfer the mini-dv from my hvrv1u through either of these software but no window pops open to acknowledge the connection. I am using the proper fire800-i.link cable, the Imac is a 3.06GHz core duo with 8G memory on mac os 10.6.6.
This camera is not on the Apple list as compatible: is this the real problem or is there a work around? Never had this problem on my pc.
And, is there a mini-dv camera under 500$ that I could use on the Imac. I need big help on this please. Many thanks.

.... but no window pops open to acknowledge the connection...
That only happens on Windows, not Macs!
To check if your Mac has seen the camera: go to Apple Menu: About this Mac: More Info:
    - then select the "Firewire" label on the left hand pane. Does the camera get listed on the right hand pane?
Almost any Firewire camera will work with a Mac (including the V1!)
(BTW: This is the MacPro forum, not iMac, but what the ****! )

  • IMovie8, External Hard Drive and iMovie11

    I have multiple issues here.
I have flim clips of sports my kids taken from game film.  So an "event" might be several clips or an entire game, and the Project would be the highlights. Some projects are just my kids ( ) and some projects are the year end team highlight videos.  Obviously some clips are used multiple times. I want to move these to use on a new computer that has iMovie11, but I want to keep them on an external hard drive.
THe problem is, this is what I THOUGHT I had done four years ago when I backed up a computer onto HD,  But from what I've read here, Since I didn't do it through imovie itself, I might have broken some sort of connection and this projects are now history becaue I didn't move the events, only the projects themselves.  Yes?
Moving forward, I want to make sure I don't lose any of this stuff.  It's right up there with a iPhoto library to me.
I've read about this media consolidation that will link events to projects, but was that available in iMovie08? (the version I am working with)  If so, I cannot find it and would appreciate direction.
But if I cant consolidate media, then how do I do it?  It'd be great if you could move iMovie like Iphoto and just choose a different library, but I assume that's not happening.
So, can I just manually move all these files to the external HD thru imovie (I get that you don't do it through finder)?  Although, the problem there is that when I connect my external HD (formated to MAC OS Extended Journaled), the HD disc only shows up under events and not under projects. It doesnt seem to allow me to drag and drop to it either.  So although I could feasibly drag and drop all the events, how do I move the actual inprogress projects so they don't drop anything, especially if I can't use finder to do so?
Once I move all of this to an external hard drive, the HOPE is that I might be able to continue editing them on my new macbook that has iMovie11.
And One last thing: Is there any way to move an iDVD project INTACT to an external hard drive so that you can come back and burn more copies later?  The one or two DVD projects that I moved to this external hard drive are completely empty now.  Which, again, is disappointing.
I was going to use migration assistant, but the truth is, I don't want everything that's on this old laptop on my new one.  And after reading how you had to move things IN iMovie, I was afraid I'd break the links to everything!  Too scary to even consider.
Sorry so long, but I moved these other files with the help of OnetoOne in the Apple Store last time and obviously, they didn't do it right because none of those projects will play now.

I also moved some files after creating a project: When I attempted to burn the project to a disc I was given an error message along with a listing of the missing files. This is most likely the long way around to rebuilding your projects but might solve one of your issues.
