Impact of job_queue_processes parameter in oracle 10g
We have recently migrated 9i database to 10g.During business hours we will reduce the parallel jobs running to 5 and during night hours we set to 20.
After migration to 10g we faced major performance impact.Rest of the parameter we kept same as oracle 9i except obsolete.
Would change of this parameter will impact this performance?
What are other parameter we should check?
Can anyone help me regardng the performance improvement.This causes major business impact.
Thanks
Raghavendra
Hi,
When does you database becomes perticularly slow? In the day time ot night time?
What are the scheduled job (apart from queues) on your database? Is there any relation between the scheduled jobs running and your database slowing down?
Is there a stats collection job? Is it taking same time as before or taking longer?
Run this SQL,
select s.username,b.sid, a.STATISTIC#, name, b.value
from v$sesstat b, v$statname a, v$session s
where a.STATISTIC# = b.STATISTIC# and ( name like '%physical%' or name like '%consist%' )
and b.sid = s.sid and s.program not like 'oracle@%'
order by 2,4
Do you know about the views I have used in there? You can figure out the session with extensive read, write and select activities from here. Also, you will need to apply your logic there.
Best luck.

Eventually,I would like the db to read the spfile spfileorcl.ora during the startup.How can I achieve this?

By default, oracle will look first for a spfile named "spfile<ORACLE_SID>.ora". Lacking that, it will try to find "init<ORACLE_SID>).ora.
Eventually,I would like the db to read the spfile spfileorcl.ora during the startup.How can I achieve this?
Once you have started the db (I believe a startup nomount will be sufficient) you can issue CREATE SPFILE ... Details are in the fine SQL Reference manual found at tahiti.oracle.com
BTW, "open" is the default behavior of "startup", so no need to specify it. A simple "startup" does the same thing.

UTL_FILE_DIR parameter in Oracle 10g
Hi all,
I've a question regarding UTL_FILE_DIR parameter being deprecated in 10g.
My question, if anyone is doing File I/O based on UTL_FILE_DIR on 10g without problems?
I did a small test on Windows which was successful, but I would still want to make sure there aren't any potential risks related to using this parameter on 10g.
I would appreciate valuable feedback from you all.
The reason for using this parameter instead of directory objects is to avoid changes in our huge code base during migration.
Thanks in advance,
~RajIt isn't.

Could not update the kernel parameter when oracle 10g Installation.
Hi,
I tried to update ip_local_port_range in sysctl.conf file.
vi /etc/sysctl.conf
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range=1024 65000
After changing the value i executed following command,
sysctl -p
Error : Unknown error 22 setting key 'net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range'
Please helpYou didn't specify if you are on a linux based OS, it looks like you are, but it would be so kind on your side if you clearly specify the OS version and which DB version you are planning to install.
When I perform installations of DB10gR2 on OEL4/OEL5 or RHEL4/RHEL5 i issue this commands:
echo net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000 >> /etc/sysctl.conf
Once the kernel parameter have been set, the kernel must be re-read with the /sbin/sysctl -p command.

Email parameter for message part in oracle 10g
hi..
i m sending email using oracle 10g form , using desname , desformat , subject ,from
it working successfully now i hv to add message body in that email like
Dear Sir,
Please find attachment.
Thanks & Regards
ABC
there is destype ,desname ,desformat ,subject ,from in built parameter to set subject , from , to , format to send email , but i want to write message part is there any parameter in oracle 10g ??
Thanks..Is your problem that you do not know how to send an email from Oracle 10g? If so then you use the UTL_MAIL package.
Here's an example of calling it as part of a scheduler chain, not strictly what you're asking for but this lets you define success and failure steps and call each one based on the status of previous steps.
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_PROGRAM (
program_name =>'prg_Export_Success',
program_type =>'PLSQL_BLOCK',
program_action =>q'[BEGIN
UTL_MAIL.SEND (
sender => 'who_its_from',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'subject line',
message => 'the message',
mime_type => 'text/plain; charset=us-ascii');
END;]',
number_of_arguments => 0,
enabled => TRUE,
comments => 'Email success');
end;
BEGIN
DBMS_SCHEDULER.DEFINE_CHAIN_STEP (
chain_name => 'Export',
step_name => 'stp_EXPORT_SUCCESS',
program_name => 'PRG_EXPORT_SUCCESS');
END;
/... then define appropriate rules. -
Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g
hi all DBA experts.
I am not good familiar with Oracle database while i read a Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g. in which SAP General Recommendation:
You should delete obsolete initialization parameters from the profile.
To determine which obsolete parameters are currently set, proceed as follows:
SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE';
when i execute above command then result is no rows selected
while there are many parameters in above SAP Note which are already obsolete and not set in initSID.ora file.
for exp. the parameter OPTIMIZER_INDEX_COST_ADJ is showing
#### OPTIMIZER MODE
#optimizer_index_cost_adj = 10
as you know that this parameter is very important regarding System Performance.
now please guide me . I have to set these parameter or no need while there is not showing any parameters against obsolete command.
waiting you valuable reply.
Regards,hi both,
thanks for knowledge sharing with me other SDN users,
Dear Orkun,
Ok. At this stage, I can recommend you that apply what they have suggested,
in the message. So, you already did a part of it by configuring
Oracle parameters, already.

How to change timeout parameter value in Oracle 10g R2
Anyone knows how to change timeout parameter value in Oracle 10g Database R2?

A search of MetaLink for that error turns up a number of hits, most of which a very situational specific. Exactly what are you doing when you get this error? Are you connecting over an ODBC connection? Are you getting it on a connection request? At db shutdown? During a long-running query? -
Oracle 10g on solaris 10 : kernel parameter warning
I am installing oracle 10g on Solaris 10.
I have a warning on kernel parameter missing (shminfo_shmmax for example) during the system check.
I understood that with the 10 version of solaris these parameters are replaced by ressources control and I have checked them. They are correctly setted.
Need I do something before continue the install to release the warning or can I bypass this issue and continue the install as I have no warning ?
Thanks for your answers.
Sorry for my english.You are right. Since Solaris 10 kernel parameters settings in /etc/system is obsolete and some parameters are deprecated.
The steps how to configure required parameters you can find in my paper (step #1.): http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora10gR2_solaris.html
I bypass this issue and continue the install as I have no warning You can safely bypass this issue during installation process but you should set these parameters after installation. -
