Impact of Oracle Grid on TimesTen
Hi,
One of our client is using TimesTen (11.2.1.8.0) in memory cache with Oracle(11.2.0.1.0 ) as the underlying database. They want to configure Oracle Grid to monitor the Oracle Database in the production environment.
Logically there should be no impact of this configuration to TimesTen but I need a second opinion. Am I missing out on something?
Thanks,
Karan
Hi Karan,
I think that using Oracle EM Grid Control for monitoring Oracle DB is a very good idea. Definitely that will not impact on TimesTen configuration.
Additionally you can use Oracle EM Grid Control for TimesTen monitoring as well.

Installing Oracle Clusterware and TimesTen
I am attempting to setup TimesTen with Oracle Clusterware and this website "Installing Oracle Clusterware and TimesTen" says that I should "Install Oracle Clusterware 11.2.0.2" however, when I go and look for I found this page: "Oracle Grid Infrastructure Downloads" however as you can see from that page it does not have version 11.2.0.2.
Does anyone know where I can get Clusterware 11.2.0.2?
Would version 12.1.0.1.0 work for me?
Thanks,
VictorThanks for the info on 12.1.0.1.0 :-(
If you look at eDelivery 11.2.0.2 is not available. I guess I will have to go with setting TimesTen setup without the Grid Infrastructure (i.e. use these instructions instead - "Active Standby Pair with TimesTen In-Memory Database")

Oracle Linux Patching/Updates Impact on Oracle Database
I have several questions regarding Oracle Linux patching and its impact on Oracle Database.
3 node Cluster
Operating System: Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2
Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Grid Infrastructure: Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2)
Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2) with RAC option
ASM with ASMLib is being used for Data and FRA.
*1)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying only Security Patches require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*2)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying Bug Fixes and Security Patches to Oracle Linux 5 update 2 require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*3)* Given your updating from Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2 to Oracle Linux Release 5 update 8, will this require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
I would most whole heartedly appreciate if someone could answer the specific questions asked, inline if possible. Our System Administrator is preparing to perform some patching and as the DBA I'd like to be certain what changes I need to prepare for? I also have a single instance database setup with Oracle Restart. I don't know if this impacts the answers above.
Thanks in advance. How do you plan to apply Oracle Linux security patches? As far as I'm aware the yum security plug-in does not work with the Oracle public yum repository and there is no really feasible way to automate and determine security related patches only, unless you setup Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (11g) or Cloud (12c) and have a subscription to Oracle ULN.
If you upgrade your Oracle Linux to the latest available version using the public yum repository, all patches, including errata will be applied. You cannot apply patches and stay on a specific release version unless you have a subscription and appropriate yum repository access.
As far as I'm aware there are no changes required to your Oracle database or ASM setup and configuration when updating the OS, provided the version of the Oracle database is supported for the specific OS version (ASM features like ADVM/ACFS are kernel version depending). Upgrading from one major release to another, such as upgrading Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6 is not supported and will require upgrading the Oracle Database to 11.2.0.3. You can check the Oracle database certification matrix to determine which Oracle database release version is required for which OS version http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm
The relinking of Oracle Database binaries is a common practice when updating the OS. I do not think it is necessary under Linux. Oracle binaries are typically standalone applications, or use Oracle provided libraries, or in some cases use OS shared libraries, which does not require relinking of Oracle binaries. Upgrading the Oracle database software of course requires relinking.

Multi-Org impact on Oracle CRM modules especially on Oracle Service
Multi-Org impact on Oracle CRM modules especially on Oracle Service
====================================================
I have been searching for any information (notes,whitepapers/ presentation) on the impact of multi org implementation on Oracle Service module and so far not been able to find any either on metalink or on internet.
Any of you have any inputs on this ? Please provide the same if any.
basically,
Looking for the kind of security applied on SR creation form,Debrief form and charges form when a multi org is enabled.
I also tried to test this out in our instance and found that it seems to have no impact.
GanaHI,
Yes indeed there is a impact of MULTI-ORG on the Service Module in 11i.
All the things are integrated now.
Everything is dependent on the MO:Operating Unit Profile Option and the setup which you had done.
1)
Security on SR creation Form:-
See you can implement the security, but for that you have to setup accordinglly and also to follow the process.
If you create 2 responsibilities with MO profile option different, then none of them will able to see the others data.
Note:-
But if you are using the instance to generate the SR, then you had to make it sure that the ITEM which you are using should be assigned to the Operating unit which is set in the MO profile Options of that responsibility.
2)
Debrief Form:-
As you must know that for debrief to work, you had to setup the Service Activities.
This is where you can define the security.
1) Create a Service activity,
2) Map it with BILLING TYPES
3) Map the Billing Types with Order Management Header and the Line Type
This the place where you can specify the Operating Unit.
When a user will log in and open a debrief form, then he will be able to see only those service activities which are mapped with the operating unit as that of set in MO Profile Option to the user.
3)
Charges:-
The same as the debrief is applied on the charges TAB.
Here you will only able to see the Service activites which are mapped with the operating unit as that of set in MO operating unit.
If you want ITEM level security, then you will be only able to see the items which are assigned to the Operating unit as that of set in the MO profile option.
Hope this will clear your doubt.
If want more clarification, you can ask me.

RAC - Oracle Grid Infrastructure configure failed
Hi, am trying to install 2 node RAC on Oracle VMs. Before the installation during the -preinst check there were few issues which were resolved (ex user equivalence). After that during the installation process of the Grid it failed at step "Configure Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a cluster". After it failed at this step, subsequent steps too failed which I asked OUI to ignore and then I ran both the post installation scripts. And then ran post crsinst which failed. Pasting below the output of the root.sh script, post crsinst and other checks.

Please help.before installation have u configure the private interconnect on both the nodes to same network adapter..
for example on node 1 if the private interconnect is on eth0 then on the node 2 it should use eth0 only...
for private interconnect use the hostonly option on both the nodes in the network configuration page of the vmware or virtual box..
and for public network it can be bridged
more over if you are installing on the laptop its good to configure the SSH using the OUI.. rather than doing it manually.. as it saves time
the private and the public networks should not have same range of ip address. like if public address are like 192.168.2.222/255.255.255.0 and private address have to be different like 10.10.1.2/255.0.0.0 (this is just an example)
have to configured the NTP.
any ways try installing the oracle rac on virtual box follow the steps given the below website they are pretty straight forward...

Can anyone suggest what could be the reason behind this?Dear user13295317,
Here is the error explanation;
Oracle Error :: TNS-12533
TNS:illegal ADDRESS parameters
Cause
An illegal set of protocol adapter parameters was specified.
In some cases, this error is returned when a connection cannot be made to the protocol transport.
Action
Verify that the destination can be reached using the specified protocol.
Check the parameters within the ADDRESS section of TNSNAMES.ORA.
Legal ADDRESS parameter formats may be found in the Oracle operating system specific documentation for your platform.
Protocols that resolve names at the transport layer (such as DECnet object names) are vulnerable to this error if not properly configured or names are misspelled.Hope That Helps.

Root.sh failed at second node OUL 6.3 Oracle GRID 11.2.0.3
Hi, im installing a two node cluster mounted on Oracle Linux 6.3 with Oracle DB 11.2.0.3, the installation went smooth up until the execution of the root.sh script on the second node.
THe script return this final lines:
CRS-4402: The CSS daemon was started in exclusive mode but found an active CSS daemon on node nodo1, number 1, and is terminating
An active cluster was found during exclusive startup, restarting to join the cluster
Start of resource "ora.crsd" failed

In $GRID_HOME/log/node2/alertnode.log It appears to be a Cluster Time Synchronization Service issue, (i didn't synchronyze the nodes..) however the CTSS is running in observer mode, wich i believe it shouldn't affect the installation process. After that i lost it...there's an entry CRS-5018 indicating that an unused HAIP route was removed... and then, out of the blue: CRS-5818:Aborted command 'start' for resource 'ora.asm'. Some clarification will be deeply apreciated.

ASM installation failure from Oracle GRID under Windows 7 64 bit
I am a rookie..I am running Oracle database 11gR2 running on a Windows 7 64 bit system.
I am implementing ASM onto my system solely for learning purposes
The implementation of ASM has changed between database releases 11gR1 and 11gR2 such that it is no longer configured locally but is now implemented from within Oracle GRID. Unfortunately, the book I am using to study my OCP from was written at the time of 11gR1 so I can no longer follow its instructions to create and configure ASM. Instead of using DBCA I now need to use ASMCA to configure ASM.
As a preliminary requirement I successfully installed Oracle Grid and configured it to run on my standalone server.
I created two partitions on my harddrive ...... drive G: and drive H: with intent of using them as my ASM disks. 45 Gig and 50 gig in size respectively formatted with the NTFS filesystem.
I ran ASMCA in an attempt to create an ASM instance
I specified these partition drives '\\.\G:' and '\\.\H:' in the disk discovery path which were successfully picked up.
However when ASMCA executed the creation process after some time it failed with the following message:
One or more diskgroup(s) creation failed as below:
DiskGroup mydisks creation failed with the following message:
ORA-15018: diskgroup cannot be created
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [17090], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], [], []

Ok. As above the ASM instance appeared to have been successfully created so as part of my investigative process to confirm what the script actually did successfully execute I attempted to log into the ASM instance to see how far it would get. It fails with the following result

I checked Windows Task Manager
There is an OracleOHService and it is running
LISTENER is running ie the local listener running on port 1521 that was originally created with a previous basic stand alone installation of the Oracle 11gR2 database . (ie before I installed Oracle GRID). No other listeners are running.
Can t see any evidence of any ASM service on Windows Task manager started/stopped or otherwise. Neither can I see evidence of a CSS service.
The log file that was generated is large I am not clear on what I should be looking for in order to find clues as to how I might manually resolve this problem and possibly 'salvage' the installation. Any advice would be appreciated.Hi,
read the documentation:
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/to_pdf?pathname=install.112/e24169.pdf
and you will find multiple errors, you probably did.
Especially the part on preparing storage.

Hi,
I'm a newbies in Oralce grid control. next month I will be start my new job which will involved in deploy and administer oracle grid control release 3.
I try to performed some setup just to have an initial idea how the grid control works. I have an Oracle RAC database (10.2.0.3) running on RHEL 4, 2 nodes.
Is grid control come together with the Oracle database software installation? or I have to download separately?
How is the grid control installation should be in place? Installation on the same database server or separate server? If both are allow which is the common approach?
Since my RAC database running in Linux, is it a must to have the grid control for Linux version? can I install into a windows server and managing all linux databases? Which should be the common approach?
Appreciate of any feedback given.
Many Thanks
best regards,
chongGridcontrol is separate software, don't confuse it with standalone DBConsole, which is part of a database creation. The latter can serve this particular database only.
If you have the resources, install gridcontrol separately. It needs some resources and may interfere with the monitored database(s).
You can install gridcontrol (more exactly the management services) everywhere, on Windows,Linux,Solaris .... .
What you need on the monitored machines is the correct agent for the platform. So you don't need gridcontrol for Linux, but you need the agent for Linux.

Need information on Installing oracle grid control on 11g R2
Hi,
i am new oracle grid control and its installaion.
I dont have any idea abt OMS and Agent.
following steps i have perfomed.
1) I have 1 DB on my machine.
2) download Grid software linux.x64_11gR2_grid.zip.
3) run the runinstaller.
4) while opening GUI of run installer there are 4 options.i have selected option no 4 - install grid software only.
Now please help me what is next step which i have to perform. How will I up My grid control .How will I register My DB in Grid.
I am using grid control because i have to configure EM plug in for Times Ten.
Regards,Hi,
If you want to use EM 11g Grid Control on 64-bit Linux, you should install version 11.1.0.1.0, which is available from here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/linuxx8664soft-085949.html
Note that the latest version of EM is 12c; however, if you still want to go with EM 11g, the following Support note documents the installation steps and has references to other helpful notes:
Step by Step Installation of Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11.1.0.1 (Doc ID 1059516.1)
By the way, the Concepts guide below has information about the EM 11g components including the OMS and agent:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11857_01/em.111/e11982/overview.htm#CEGBFJIC

Hello,
It may sound too easy to someone but I need to ask it anyway.
I am in the middle of building Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 on Linux. I have 2 storage and I created three LUNs in each of storage so 6 LUNs in total look in both of servers. If I choose NORMAL as a redundancy level, is it right to choose my 6 disks those are created for OCR_VOTE at the grid installation? Or should I choose only 3 of them and configure mirroring at latter stage?
The reason why I am asking this is that I didn't find any place to create asm disk group for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window. In fact, I would to like to create two disk groups in which one of groups contains three disks those were brought from storage 1 and the second one contains rest three 3 disk that come from the last storage.
I believe that you will understand the manner and help me on choosing proper way.
Thank you.Hi,
You have 2 Storage H/W.
You will need to configure a Quorum ASMDisk to store a Voting Disk.
Because if you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
You must have the odd number of voting disk (i.e 1,3 or 5) one voting disk per ASM DISK, So 1 Storage will hold more voting disk than another storage.
(e.g 3 Voting Disk - 2 voting stored in stg-A and 1 voting disk store in stg-B)
If fail the storage that hold the major number of Voting disk the whole cluster (all nodes) goes down. Does not matter if you have a other storage online.
It will happen:
https://forums.oracle.com/message/9681811#9681811
You must configure your Clusterware same as RAC extended

Today i tried to take the awr from Grid console for one of my database but there are no recent snapshot available and the data collection is stopped between agent and database. Please find the error details from emagent.trc
when i checked the agent services its seems running fine but i don't know why the data collection is not happening.
Please advice me how to resolve this issue.

Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3.0)
Hi,
I want to download Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.3.0) for installation on Oracle Solaris 11 as Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.1.0) cannot be installed on Solaris 11,
I know its available but cannot find the link to download it, is it not available for download from OTN network ?
If you happen to know the link please let me know or is there a way I can install 11.2.0.1.0 on Solaris 11.
Thank you for you help.
Rgds
Terry11/10/11: Patch Set 11.2.0.3 for Linux, Solaris, Windows, AIX and HP-UX Itanium is now available on support.oracle.com.
You have to ask support to send you the cloud link where you can download the binaries OR you can ask them to send you the media also.
It says right on the above link

Oracle Grid Infrastructure Query !!
Hi
I have a requirement to install Oracle Grid Infrastructure software on SUN SPARC v11. I would like to know, Whether the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Grid Infrastructure (11.2.0.1.0) for Solaris Operating System (x86-64) ) is compatible with Oracle 11.2.0.4 Database version ?
From where can I download the link for the same ?
Regards,
ChanI would like to know, Whether the Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Grid Infrastructure (11.2.0.1.0) for Solaris Operating System (x86-64) ) is compatible with Oracle 11.2.0.4 Database version ?
No, it is not compatible. You cannot have database version that is higher than the GI version. If you want to run an Oracle 11.2.0.4 database, then GI needs to be *at least* 11.2.0.4 as well. It can be 12.1 if needed/desired.
From where can I download the link for the same ?
From My Oracle Support, you can download the 11.2.0.4 version of both the database and GI software. This link shows you how to obtain the patchset.
Obtain Database Patchsets » Peasland Database Blog
Files 1of7 and 2of7 are the 11.2.0.4 version of the database. File 3of7 is the 11.2.0.4 version of GI.
Cheers,
Brian
