Impact on Oracle 9.2.08 due to TL upgradation of AIX 5.3

We have Oracle 9.2.0.8 on AIX 5.3 in Production env. We need to upgrade TL version of AIX 5.3 from lower TL version to TL 12. Will it have any impact on Database? Just wanted to make sure existing Production environment does not have any issue with TL upgradation.

  • What Java Upgrade Impacts on Oracle

    Hi
We are applying OS patches and a Java SR patch to out IBM AIX 64 bit Oracle Environment to comply with the pending Daylight Savings time change. I am currently researching if we will need to apply additional patches from Oracle on our Oracle products as well.
As anyone out there performed the following patch upgrade described at the bottom of this message to an IBM AIX 64-bit environment? We are currently running java version "1.4.2" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2) Classic VM (build 1.4.2, J2RE 1.4.2 IBM AIX build ca142-20050929a (SR3) (JIT enabled: jitc)).
I am thinking since we are not upgrading our Java to 5.0 applying the APAR described below will have no effect on existing Oracle products running (Database 10.1.0.3, App Server 10.1.2.0.2 and Grid Control (Agents and Management Service) version 10.2.0.2.0 since the base version of Java will remain at 1.4.2. We also have a good deal of Java code developed in JDeveloper (10.1.2.1.0 Build 1913) running as OC4J web applications on our 10G Application Servers.
    APAR IY84053 description:
    IBM Java 1.4.2:
    32 bit -
Upgrade to at least IBM Java build ca142-20060421 (SR 5) which is APAR IY84053,
Recommend upgrading to the newest build. *

    You said:
"In the past we had some problems (graphical or misplaced objects) due to the upgrade."An automated test isn't going to help much for GUI changes. This is something you need to review manually. Also, when you say "Java upgrade", are you referring to the client or mid tier? Changing the mid tier Java version will not change the appearance of the GUI on the client side. As for changing the Java version on the client side, if you are using a more current day Java version with your Forms 10 application (e.g. Java 6) then moving to a newer Java 6 version or even 7 will unlikely have any impact on the GUI. In the past, there were issues with upgrading from old Java versions like 1.3 to newer because Sun (at that time) needed to make changes to that part of Java. If you are already on one of the newer versions then you should not see any change since nothing significant has been changed in more recent versions. Regardless, manual, human testing should be performed in order to ensure that the GUI part of your application is the way you expect it.

  • Multi-Org impact on Oracle CRM modules especially on Oracle Service

Multi-Org impact on Oracle CRM modules especially on Oracle Service
    ====================================================
I have been searching for any information (notes,whitepapers/ presentation) on the impact of multi org implementation on Oracle Service module and so far not been able to find any either on metalink or on internet.
Any of you have any inputs on this ? Please provide the same if any.
    basically,
Looking for the kind of security applied on SR creation form,Debrief form and charges form when a multi org is enabled.
I also tried to test this out in our instance and found that it seems to have no impact.
    Gana

    HI,
Yes indeed there is a impact of MULTI-ORG on the Service Module in 11i.
All the things are integrated now.
Everything is dependent on the MO:Operating Unit Profile Option and the setup which you had done.
    1)
    Security on SR creation Form:-
See you can implement the security, but for that you have to setup accordinglly and also to follow the process.
If you create 2 responsibilities with MO profile option different, then none of them will able to see the others data.
    Note:-
But if you are using the instance to generate the SR, then you had to make it sure that the ITEM which you are using should be assigned to the Operating unit which is set in the MO profile Options of that responsibility.
    2)
    Debrief Form:-
As you must know that for debrief to work, you had to setup the Service Activities.
This is where you can define the security.
    1) Create a Service activity,
    2) Map it with BILLING TYPES
    3) Map the Billing Types with Order Management Header and the Line Type
This the place where you can specify the Operating Unit.
When a user will log in and open a debrief form, then he will be able to see only those service activities which are mapped with the operating unit as that of set in MO Profile Option to the user.
    3)
    Charges:-
The same as the debrief is applied on the charges TAB.
Here you will only able to see the Service activites which are mapped with the operating unit as that of set in MO operating unit.
If you want ITEM level security, then you will be only able to see the items which are assigned to the Operating unit as that of set in the MO profile option.
Hope this will clear your doubt.
If want more clarification, you can ask me.
    Regds,
    Vikram

  • Impact on Packet delay and Jitter due to IPSec

We are planning to use IPSec between two 7604 routers. And IPSec actually adds more overhead to the packet there will be impact on the traffic. We would like to know the impact on Packet delay and Jitter due to IPsec on 7604 or 7606 routers.

Hi Jger, is this for something like a message of the day? What are you using UDP 17 for?  UDP is still best effort which the switch may not necessarily be faulted for. You may try something such as turning off spanning tree on the ports to see if that can help somehow.

  • Oracle Linux Patching/Updates Impact on Oracle Database

I have several questions regarding Oracle Linux patching and its impact on Oracle Database.
    3 node Cluster
Operating System: Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2
    Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Grid Infrastructure: Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2)
Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2) with RAC option
ASM with ASMLib is being used for Data and FRA.
*1)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying only Security Patches require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*2)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying Bug Fixes and Security Patches to Oracle Linux 5 update 2 require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*3)* Given your updating from Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2 to Oracle Linux Release 5 update 8, will this require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
I would most whole heartedly appreciate if someone could answer the specific questions asked, inline if possible. Our System Administrator is preparing to perform some patching and as the DBA I'd like to be certain what changes I need to prepare for? I also have a single instance database setup with Oracle Restart. I don't know if this impacts the answers above.
    Thanks in advance.

How do you plan to apply Oracle Linux security patches? As far as I'm aware the yum security plug-in does not work with the Oracle public yum repository and there is no really feasible way to automate and determine security related patches only, unless you setup Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (11g) or Cloud (12c)  and have a subscription to Oracle ULN.
If you upgrade your Oracle Linux to the latest available version using the public yum repository, all patches, including errata will be applied. You cannot apply patches and stay on a specific release version unless you have a subscription and appropriate yum repository access.
As far as I'm aware there are no changes required to your Oracle database or ASM setup and configuration when updating the OS, provided the version of the Oracle database is supported for the specific OS version (ASM features like ADVM/ACFS are kernel version depending). Upgrading from one major release to another, such as upgrading Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6 is not supported and will require upgrading the Oracle Database to 11.2.0.3. You can check the Oracle database certification matrix to determine which Oracle database release version is required for which OS version http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm
The relinking of Oracle Database binaries is a common practice when updating the OS. I do not think it is necessary under Linux. Oracle binaries are typically standalone applications, or use Oracle provided libraries, or in some cases use OS shared libraries, which does not require relinking of Oracle binaries. Upgrading the Oracle database software of course requires relinking.

  • Oracle 11.2.0.4 order of upgrade discussion

    Hi all:
We have Oracle DB 11.2.0.3 on IBM AIX (power system, os level 4, 64bit), need to upgrade it to 11.2.0.4 and apply CPUJAN2015 patch.
We already complete upgrade in UAT, and prepare for Prod in client site. UAT OS directory set up is: home_1 (11.2.0.3), home_2 (11.2.0.4).
Due to serious client's request, we need to keep 'home_1' always for latest oracle version, so need to rename home_2 to home_1 after upgrade.  Client and us are discussing the 'order-of-upgrade' due to directory rename.  Our approach is:
originally,  server has 'home_1' 11.2.0.3 and 'home_2' .  Take backup of 'home_1' oracle binaries, RMAN backup DB.
    Start upgrade process -
    1. install 11.2.0.4 to 'home_2'. [use guidelines in 11.2.0.4 oracle installation by OUI]
    2. cd to 'home_2'/dbs, open DB by 'home_2/dbs/bin/sqlplus (sure we use correct configuration files like initSID.ora and tns files, etc):
          sqlplus > startup upgrade;
        >@catupgrad.sql; exit;
          sqlplus > startup
                        >@utlu112s.sql; @catuppst.sql; @utlrp.sql;
    3. shutdown/startup DB based on necessary
    4. apply CPUJAN2015 patch. [use guidelines in README file in patch "p20132517_112040_aix64"]
    5. shutdown/startup DB and listener based on necessary.
we rename 'home_1' (11.2.0.3) -> 'home_1bkup' (11.2.0.3), 'home_2' (11.2.0.4) -> 'home_1' (11.2.0.4).  So next upgrade we'll install new version in 'home_2' again, and start same process.  This way saves us from renaming many server scripts/application code which point to 'home_1'.
    Our client suggested approach-
    1) Backup database instance (RMAN) or  (file copy when database is shutdown down) in 11.2.0.3.
    2) Install 11.2.0.4 in HOME_2
    3) Move HOME_2 to HOME_1 (the original home of 11.2.0.3)
    4) Start up database instance in upgrade mode and upgrade the database to the 11.2.0.4
    5) ( may need to do some shutdown startup to ensure it is working fine).
    6) Completed?
    7) Shutdown database instance
    8) Move HOME_1 to HOME_2 (the original home of 11.2.0.4)
    9) Oracle CPU patch apply
    10) Move HOME_2 to HOME_1 (the original home of 11.2.0.3)
    11) Start up database instance in and update cpu to the database
    12) Backup database instance (RMAN) or  (file copy when database is shutdown down) in 11.2.0.4.
This will ensure at all time, we are following Oracle’s ‘model’ upgrade path.
I feel step 8 & 10 moving is unnecessary, can't we stay the same oracle home, 'home_2' (11.2.0.4) in our approach, and apply CPU patch at DB? Client argues is 'for all time we following oracle's model upgrade path',  what is 'model upgrade'?  is any Doc ID for it?  we don't want to unnecessary moving oracle home too many times - that is risky and many cause potention problem.
3rd enhanced approach we have so far -
    1) Backup database instance & oracle binaries in 11.2.0.3 HOME_1 to 'HOME_1bkup'.
    2) Install 11.2.0.4 in HOME_2
    3) In HOME_2, start up database instance in upgrade mode, upgrade & apply CPU to database in our previous procedure.
    4) ( may need to do some shutdown startup to ensure it is working fine).
    5) Completed?
    6) Shutdown database instance in HOME_2
    7) Backup database instance (copy datafile over os) & oracle binaries in 11.2.0.4 HOME_2 to 'HOME_2bkup'.
    8) Move HOME_2 to HOME_1
    9) Start up database instance in HOME_1 (11.2.0.4).
This way has backups for 11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4.
Can anyone take a look and let us know any important error or missing steps in the above, especially the 3rd approach?
    thank you very much!!

Using new ORACLE_HOME is one of the best practice to reduce the downtime required for upgrade since new home can be created independent of actual downtime.
in other words, you can install new binaries in new home without impacting existing DB. During the upgrade, all you need to do is point the instance to new home and perform the DB upgrade. This method also helps in quick rollback since you have original ORACLE_HOME intact. One more  benefit is that you don't need to take separate ORACLE_HOME backup since you already have everything.
There is no need of following this approach for CPU patching since it is very simple to rollback failed CPU patch.
Please remember, changing oracle_home directory might require you to do relinking so it is recommended to perform this on some non-prod system first.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Abhi

  • HT4528 I am due for an upgrade on 5/23 and I wanted to find out - can I bring my old iphone 4 to the apple store and get a new iphone 5 through the apple store instead of verizon?  Will it cost the same to get the phone as through Verizon?

I am due for an upgrade on 5/23 and I am trying to find out if I can get my phone through the Apple store?  I have an iphone 4 and am hoping to upgrade to a iphone5.  Just want to make sure if the price is the same as if I went to a Verizon store to upgrad.

I don't believe they were looking for a trade in, they are due for a subsidized Verizon upgrade. I think the bringing the iPhone 4 was for setting it up and transferring as Verizon does not require you to swap your previous phone for an upgrade.

  • Pages and icons (in the tabs and navigation bars) are too big due to 22 upgrade

Due to FF22 upgrade (from 21), all my icons (from webpages, addons and regular buttons) and tabs have got bigger and that's really ugly because of the low resolution of the images. Also considering I have a rather big number of tabs I can just see a smaller number of them and it's annoying.
The zoom of the page is now bigger (given that I has already zoom in in version 21, now the pages are too big and I have to zoom out a page that was correctly zoomed in 21)
Surprisingly the menu bar is intact !
Is that a new graphic convention ? Is there an update of something like GTK+ in this new version that could be responsible of this bug ? And mainly is there anyway to fix it ?
My screen resolution is 1920*1080. And for example with chromium or FF21 the menu have the perfect size.
PS: Sorry for my poor English.

All these confusing explanations on how to fix something that never should have been changed. It just pisses me off that I now have to get used to inferior graphics because someone thought it would be cool to screw with settings people have obviously been using for who knows how long. I have tried simply zooming down and that doesn't work. I am not going to enter a bunch of techie gobbledeegook and screw up my whole internet experience. I am just PISSED!!!!
How about another version to correct this? Hey, if someone wants to stay with this one, fine. At least give us people who aren't tech wizards an option to stick with what we have and what we have been happy with for years. Now, excuse me.. I need to get away from this.. I am so f***king pissed!!!
30 minutes later: Okay, I went to about:config and a window came up .. pretty much telling me my computer would blow sky high and take me with it. I'm just an old lady who WAS passing my time browsing and playing a few games. Oops, I'm getting mad again. PS I NEVER talk like this, but this has ruined my whole fricken day.
15 minutes later: I decided to give up. I went to play some monopoly at my favorite game site and the pop up window with the game board was unplayable. The board was way down the window and not complete. So, I went back and despite all the warnings went back to Version 21. I have used Firefox for years and have sworn by it and defended it and given it my best reviews. up until now. I absolutely don't want to quit FF, but I don't know all the tech stuff, I guess is required to change formats back to what you are used to. I still can't believe FF would make a drastic change across the board without warning or giving a choice. If I didn't know how to downgrade, I wouldn't be able to use my PC to help me get through each day. Why why why?

    Thanks for any help
I think others have answered most of your questions, but you indicated that "iTunes 10 is for Intel Macs only" -- that is not actually correct, you can certainly run iTunes 10 on your G5 PowerPC. What you need to do is:
    (1) upgrade to 10.5 operating system
    (2) upgrade to iTunes 10
While Apple doesn't officially sell 10.5 anymore (Apple sells 10.6, but 10.6 won't install on your G5 PowerPC), if you call their 800 number and explain that you need it to use your new iPhone, they may be able to sell you a copy from old inventory. Alternatively, some retailers are still selling older inventory 10.5 install DVDs but you need the version that installs on any computer, many 10.5 disks are made for a specific model only.
Before you do either (1) or (2) above, make sure you have enough memory as indicated by Apple in their system requirements. If you need more memory, it is inexpensive to upgrade.

  • Losing all my recordings due to an upgrade

I've just been informed that I will lose all my recordings due to an upgrade in 30 days time. Unfortunately the 2 weeks prior to this I am on holiday and wanted to record things whilst I'm away. Frankly, I am appalled that any upgrade should make us lose recordings and will therefore cancel my contract, seek compensation and change to someone that understands customer needs!

Will this upgrade affect ALL BT Vision users I would love to know why I have not been notified?
I am going on Holiday and want to record the Tour de France whilst away so this is terrible news
    Can someone tell me:
A: WHEN is this upgrade due to take place?
B: how do I get the information you have been sent?
c: If I upgrade myself now will I be exempt?
On top of all the other BT Vision service problems I am experiencing: The rubbish BT Vision box locking up daily! - All my recordings ending 5 mins early! -  BT Vision box reporting no iternet connection when my PC and tablet both have wireless conectivity through the same home hub! this is the worst news possible.
I am totaly fed up with BT Vision already and I have only had it for two weeks!
Time to go buy a seperate HDD so I can just record off my TV directly!
What a total joke and waste of my money BT Vison is turning out to be.

Hi my mobile is due for an upgrade in 7 days but I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade now or will there be a charge for this?

There will be a charge you will have to pay off all of your old contract. Wait the 7 days and there will be no charge.

You'll need to do an Assumption of Liability. The parent that is the account owner and your boyfriend will both have to be at the store to do this. Your line is actually your parents and it will be your fiancee's once the change is made. But you should be able to get your upgrade and you definitely get to keep your number. Also depending on your fiancee's credit history there may be a security deposit required.

If you're the account owner, you can log on to My Verizon and see when you become eligible to upgrade.
When you do become eligible, you will get the 2 year contract price of the phones - which is displayed on Verizon's website.
