I want to learn ESS & implement some scenario using ABAP & WebDynpro.

Prerequisites for Implementing ESS 600 SP14

Hi
What are the Prerequisites (Portal Support Package and BackEnd ) for Implementing ESS 600 SP14 ?
we are on EP7 SP14 and ECC6
i checked Note 908569 - Information about ERP 2005 JAVA Support Packages
but it desscribes only till ESS 600 SP13.

Which Wofkflow you are looking for? There are some standard WF's (Leave) already in the system...From your Portal Content Directory you can find these Iviews under migrated content -> EP version -> Iviews -> ESS :working time -> Leave request...
And from the iview properties, you can find the workitem
WS200000081 name..You execute this Woritem in SWDD trnx...
Later you copy the workitem and the iview and do necessary modifications.

How to implement ESS Logoff through ABAP

Hi,
I need to implement Logoff Functionality in ESS through ABAP code.
Note that our ESS works through ITS server.
I have tried SPH_R3_LOGOFF and LMBP_RESOURCE_LOGOFF.
But these FM's dont work in ESS environment (through ITS).
Please anyone help me in this regard.

Problems while implementing ESS on EP 6.0

Hello all,
I'm trying to implement the ESS 60.2 business package on EP 6.0 but, when trying to access any iView from the package, another logon screen appears in it and no registered SAP user seem to be able to surpass it.
Has anyone ever had this kind of issue?
We're also using ECC 5.0 and the SLD is centralized on the XI system.

i did perform user mapping as well as the ticket option for some tests. both ended up with the logon page appearing inside the iview and no user being authenticated in it (tried with all possible portal and ECC users i could).

i came across this thread:

but my webdynpro and webas versions are the same (SP15).
Any other ideas?

- WebAS 6.4 SP 15, ECC 5.0 SP 15 with SAP_HR 17
- WebAS 6.4 SP 15, EP 6.0 SP 15

Has anyone implemented ESS on Webdynpro?

We have EP6.0,Enterprise R/3 on WAS 6.2. We are upgrading to WAS 6.4. Our current ESS is based on the ITS services.With WAS 6.4,would we be forced to use the new ESS functionality that is based on WebDynpro?
We don't have in-house expertise on WebDynpro,how complicated would it be to implement the new functionality?

For enhancing ESS with Webdynpro you have to follow a framework called FPM (Floor Plan Manager) which SAP itself uses to create the standard Webdynpro of ESS/MSS package.The only online help available is http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/b4/139525380149a49c8402e22700e4ba/frameset.htm
You have to go through the tutorial completely and then analyse the existing SAP created ESS Webdynpro.A good starting point is ess~skl (Skills Application).All development standard/ naming convention you will get from there.

Best way to implement ESS, Leave approval matrix.

Hi Gurus,
Please suggest me the best possible way to map the leave approval matrix for ESS.
we had a plan to prepare our leave approval matrix based on "Position". Just wanna know Is it the right way to figure out the Leave approval matrix. Initially We received a suggestion to prepare the Leave approval matrix with Employee number but by seeing the attration rate/separation/inter org.unit transfer etc., It'll be very difficult to maintain the post seperation data maintenance.
We had maintained a unique position id for each position(at present), If in near feauture if the same piece of task is assign to two person, we'll descriminate through there entry date(i.e. date of confirmation/Date of Joining).
IS it the right way of doing it. Seeking expert suggestion.

This is usually pretty easy. Place all the files/pages you wish to appear as the sub domain in a folder on your site, then have your host create a "A" record for the subdomain you wish to create - so it will look like this http://YourSubDomain.YourDomain.com - then route this "A" record to the folder. Be sure the home page in this folder is a default page, such as index.htm or default.htm, or whatever your server uses for the default home page file name.

Implement ESS Package

Hi, Im trying to install de Business Package for ESS, we already have mySAP ERP and 6.0.2.4.6 Enterprise Portal Service Pack 2.
We download the Business Package from SDN page, with the name "Business Package for Employee Self-Service (mySAP ERP 2004)" and this just have one archive: BPERP4ESS0_0.sca
We suppose the sca file have to come with scs files, but the package do not have them, so we tried install with de SDM and just dont work, and display information:
No Top Level Development Components found in SCA "C:\FIRA\BPERP4ESS0_0.sca". Please choose another file.
Could you tell us where can we find the complete business package or where can find documentation about it?

The BPERP4ESS0_0 file should be a zip file that you will need to expand.
The package should be imported from within the portal itself.
You will need to navigate within the portal to
System Administration -> Transport -> Import
You should have the contents on your portal server in the directory specified on your Import page. Click the Browse button and select the package to be imported.
You should get a link to view the log of the import process. You will need to refresh this log view until the import process completes.
After the import completes, you should be able to access the new package contects from your portal by navigating to:
Content Administration -> Migrated Content ...(Not certain what subdirectory you might see here. I have imported BPESS for 4.7 not mySAP ERP but process is the same)

Implementation ESS standard scenario

Hi,
I want to use the ESS Standard scenario for personal administration. I've read, that the Webdynpro-Applikation and the iView exists in the SAP Business Package. Now I ask to myself what I have to do, to use the application in the NetWeaver Portal. I think, I must edit the JCo connections, I must edit the iView's, what else?

I hope you mean you wish to modify existing functionality of "personal Information" adapt it as per your use....right ?
Well you can personalize it as defined in SAP note 1234273.
Second you can make modification without any changes in code at Java level :

ESS standard Application modification

Implementing ESS

Hello forum,
I'll have to make available ESS for Training and Event Management in my client's portal.
We use R/3 4.7, EP6.0, and BP 50.4 for ESS. The problem is that the client already has an application that manages training and events. This app is very user-friendly, but it is only html-based and not supported in R/3. My client says that the BP of ESS provided by SAP we have is not so user-friendly, and upgrading to ECC5.0 or above in order to install a newer BP for ESS (web dynpro based) is out of question.
What do you suggest me to do?? A colleague of mine told me that with pdk I can develop some custom screens for ESS... Is the effort worth while? Can I customize some standard screens of BP 50.4, enhancing their user-friendlyness?

I had the same problem. Well, zou have more choices:
a, you can write your own web-dynpro iviews, which will provide needed information for customers
b, there should be possibility to change the look of these standard ITS iviews.. first - ITS html templates, second - Portal Theme - ITS theme generator
option a would eork perfectly, with option b I had problems and never get to good results.

ESS implementation issue.

hi all
I am implementing ESS on the NW04s platform. I have done all configuration in the front end and the back end (ECC 5.0). When I assign the role ESS to a user I see only the role, workset and one page (overview). I am not able to see the other pages even though they are attached to the role. Initially I did not even see the role but then attached the everyone group to the same. Now I am unable to find the issue for the pages not appearing. Can I use ECC 5.0 and EP 7.0 for BPs. Any help?

Check the permission role and Role content..
you can open the location of ESS content and there right click and open permissions and then assign it to your role.
